yep, this is gonna be a Thing again

there's gonna be some stuff in this post that is important-ish, like a table of contents, and some disclaimers, and possibly one of those fancy random image thingers

It's kind of important for you to know that, technically? Double-Stripes are not actually a thing!
Like, yes, it is a pattern that can be recognized, it shows up every now and then, but it is not
an official thing, it's just a name I've applied to my own obsession.

Long story short, DON'T TAKE THIS TOO SERIOUSLY!
I only do because I've got issues. Don't be like me!

All the demonstration images were made with Rejam's quest lines.


A Saddle marking is a large patch of color on the back, and possibly part of the neck. It looks something like this!


A blanket marking is like a saddle marking, but goes up to cover part of the head, too. It looks something like this or this!


A britches marking is something I made up a name for! It's like a blanket, but it wraps around part of the back legs as well. It looks something like this!


A Double-Stripe is something I made up a name for! It is a blanket or britches marking with two or more colors layered on top of each other. One with hard edges will look something like this, while one with soft edges looks like this.


The big term that I want to talk about, though, is the word faulted. It means their pattern is close to, but not, a double-stripe. This word does not mean I think there is anything wrong with your kin!!

There are a lot of ways a kin could miss the mark for a double-stripe! Here are a few possible faults.
The stripe could break partway down; [x]
The stripe could meet at the neck instead of on the head; [x]
The top color could not make it up the neck; [x]
Both colors could fall short of the head; [x]
Both colors could want nothing to do with the back of the neck at all; [x]
The colors could be too soft to be really discernible as stripes. [x]
