Lyssa sniffed again. She had reported to laundry as was her assignment for the day and looked around. There was supposed to be another girl that she had seen coming as well but apparently being on time didn't mean much to others. Of course, Lyssa was early but that did not mean that she would do the other girl's share of work! Making sure her hair was tied back, she waited for the head laundry woman to tell her her tasks for the day.

Though judging by the baskets and loads of freshly washed furs and clothing, Lyssa had a good idea that today's agenda would be hanging. Which meant being outside. That made her happy, she would be closer to the dragons and might even seen someone that she knew. Looking around, she finally spotted the small girl heading her way. Finally! Time to work. Looking at the candle, Lyssa was hoping they could be done before the midday meal.

Swinging her arms from side to side the sandy haired wine-maker skipped with a spring to her step as she made her way towards the area where her chores awaited her, scrunching her face together Persephone let out a small throat noise of disdain. Why were there always chores! Couldn’t she just have sometime to play every once in a while? Blah! It wasn’t fair, this was a Weyr there were tons of exciting things to do and see and yet everyday she had to get up early and do candidate chores. Blah, she said, blah.

Twirling on the heels of her sandals the high-spirited shorthaired pixie rushed into the area that she was supposed to report to, grinning brightly Persephone bounced over to the girl that was already in the room. Her toothy impish grin touched her vivid green eyes causing the lively hues to sparkle ever so slightly in thee most gregarious of ways. “Hey! You must be my chore buddy,” letting out a bubbly giggle as she greeted the unknown candidate Persephone rocked back and forth on her feet and absentmindedly wrung her slender digits together while bringing them towards her mouth. “Priss! My name is Priss! Looks like we are gonna be---” trailing off for just a moment the petite girl glanced from side to side then nibbled on her bottom lip, her facial features faltered and a look of bewilderment claimed her cheerful expression. “doing something with laundry, huh?”

Lyssa tried not to wrinkle her nose as the girl practically pranced up. Not that she minded happy people. She loved people and she loved talking with girls her own age but bubbly was something she could only take so much of but still she smiled and gave a friendly nod. "Yes, I'm Analyssa but you can call me Lyssa. Right now, I am waiting for the head laundry woman but I have the suspicion we are hanging clothes today."

That was, of course, if the girl even had the strength to haul one basket. Lyssa was by no means a hefty girl but she had the feeling she had more strength in one arm than Priss did in her whole body. Sitting patiently and waiting, she tried to remember how long the girl had been in Benden. Certainly not at the last hatching but maybe a recent addition. Putting her best foot forward, she continued. "Laundry is such a nice chore when we get to be outside. Normally I try to get chores with the healers or one of the beast crafters but today sunshine will be most welcome."

Pursing her pouty pink lips the messy haired vintner nodded in agreement with what the other girl said, being outside was so much more fun than being locked away in some chamber that didn’t have any wonderful sunlight. Dragging her stained hands through her unruly shortly cropped locks Persephone grinned yet again and idly twisted side to side.

“I am still not to used to all of these candidate chores,” she murmured with honestly from behind her left hand as she tapped her chin then drew her purplish finger over her lip. Pulling her hand away she glanced towards one of the sizeable baskets filled with damp furs and clothing then scrunched her nose yet again. “You have a really pretty name by the way, my full name is Persephone but it isn’t a very pretty name so I just like to be called Priss. You can call me whatever you wanna though, Lyssa.”

Bending down the bouncy little wine-maker touched the edge of the linen basket then glanced over towards the taller girl. “Should we just take this outside? Cause that would show---” trailing off Persephone clicked her tongue against the backs of her teeth as she tried to summon the term that she was looking for. The expression on her thin, narrow face was one of deep concentration, wiggling her nose some the daintily built wine-maker shook her head trying to force the words into her mind, her already messy short hair stuck up in various directs causing her locks to appear completely un-groomed. Ah, that was it! “Initiative, right? Initiative is a good thing! And it would be one less thing for the Head Laundry woman to tell us, right?” Tugging at the edge of the basket Persephone giggled and attempted to carry the load by herself, her slender little arms were a lot stronger than what they appeared, turns of carrying baskets of grapes and berries has built a bit a strength to the willowy little limbs.

By the first Egg, could this girl be any more childish? Analyssa kept the pleasant look on her face and listened to her voice which seemed to have almost a whine to it. "Persephone is a lovely name as well but I suppose to each their own. My brothers all called me Ana when I was younger but it seemed to plain."

What was with her playing with her hair? There wasn't much of it to begin with and it looked like it had been loped off by a wher. Still, Lyssa being raised in a polite household refrained from making any comments about it and continued the conversation. "Initiative is a good thing. I just don't like to be wrong about chores. Such a pain to have to do extra work when you don't need to--"

A very hurried woman came up to them both and huffed. Looking at them both, she gave them a look and pointed. "Good, you know what you're doing. Mind the mud and the mischief makers. Be back when you are done."

Nodding smartly, Lyssa turned to and watched as Priss hefted a basket up. There were three large baskets to be hung. Tapping a finger on her cheek, she opened her mouth then stopped. Then spoke carefully. "Should we hang one basket at a time or just bring them all out and hang them? I think one basket at a time might be better so they don't get messed up. I can help you with that if you like."

Flicking her tongue over her bottom lip Persephone let out a hushed giggle, keeping her vivid green hues locked on the basket as the Lyssa spoke. “Ana is very much too plain a name for someone as pretty as you,” sincerely complimented the sandy brunette in a sweetened tone, tilting her head up Persephone made sure to keep eye contact with the taller girl just to make sure that the other candidate understood she was being serious. “Lyssa is a very attractive name.” Darting her hues back towards the basket the fidgety vintner bit her bottom lip as the flustered laundry woman scurried about and spoke to the both of them.

Rapidly blinking when the older woman rambled something then hurried off the trimly built candidate cranked her neck as she watched the woman disappear out of sight. It was apparent that the shorthaired girl was one of those people that had difficultly staying on task, it was ever so easy to distract her unless it was something fun and could hold her attention. Persephone puffed up her cheeks for a moment as she cantered her head to the side then redirected her vision towards her chore partner.

“Huh,” she mumbled for a moment then gave her head a shake as if trying to gather her wits about her. “Yeah, one basket at a time is best. We can get it done faster if we both work together,” adjusting her grip on the edge of the linen container, Priss let out a bit of a breathy sigh. “please? Could you help, I am not exactly all that strong---” dropping her tone an octave or two the brunette gave a little stamp with her feet. “I am a lot better at running and things that require lower body strength, I can stomp grapes as good as any apprentice in my craft. My thighs and calves are really lean and toned, you can give em a squeeze if you wanna feel for yourself, Lyssa.” Pursing her lips into a sharp ‘O’ shape the petite candidate girl instantly began to flex her leg as if fully expecting the other girl to actually take her up on her offer. Oh, that was right they were busy, now was not the time for that. Tucking her chin to the fur lining of her brightly colored vest Persephone began to grumble from the strain the basket caused her long willowy arms.

Lyssa shrugged, not one to argue over simple things unless they could later become important. Her name, not so important as long as they got the task at hand completed. But there she went again, fidgeting and stuff. Maybe she was one of those people who needed to stay active. Lyss wondered if she twitched. As the laundry woman left in a hurry, the taller girl looked back at Priss and did her best not to sigh.

Maybe she was a lot more younger than Analyssa had first thought. Either way, she was going to have to pull all her patience out for this one. And there went that whining, high pitch again. When the girl said something about squeezing legs or grapes, Lyssa shook her head no and moved to pick up the other end of the basket. "Um, no thanks. But don't move and let me grab this end. At least the doorway is wide enough that we can both pass through. Just a step at a time until we are at the lines."

Thankfully, they would not have to go far. Hopefully the task would be complete then she could go find some healers or her brother to hang around until afternoon lessons.

Persephone simply gave a nod towards Lyssa in understanding. She couldn’t help but tuck her chin to the soft fur lining of her vest as they took the basket one step at a time, the prim and proper girl seemed to have a longer gait than she herself did, at this Priss concentrated on her feet making sure to keep in stride with the taller girl.

‘One, two, three, one, two, three.’

The mental song that the pigeon footed girl kept in her head caused her crooked little grin to brighten and her head to bob ever so slightly to the simply beat as the two candidates lugged the laundry towards the lines. Lowering the basket with care the shorthaired brunette bounced up and down just for a moment, she couldn’t help herself it was absolutely gorgeous outside and it caused her heart to flutter.

“Do you think we might see some dragons, Lyssa,” Persephone asked with a bit of hope in her girlish tone as she took the time to inspect the line and make sure it was not faulty. The last thing they needed was to have the clothesline snap, she was fairly sure the scattered and flustered woman that was in change would have them punished greatly if that happened. Threading her slim fingers through her butchered messy tresses the narrow faced vintner turned her attention back to her chore partner. “Have you ever stood on the Sands before?” She asked perkily. Dipping her hands into the moist linens Persephone tugged on a lengthy bit of cloth, green hues dilated into specks allowing for the clear color of her eyes to shimmer in the sunlight, her mouth was strewn up into an expression of utter concentration. It was clearly apparent that the girl was focused on making sure she didn’t sully the clean linen.

Lyssa paid attention to her steps and they made their way to the lines. She tried not to walk very fast as Priss was shorter than her but her nature gait put her at a longer pace. Finally, they lowered the basket and she wiped her brow.

Closing her eyes and enjoying the sun for a moment, she wondered whose dragons were out and if her brother and Brynth were nearby. Occasionally, the brown would speak to her and answer but she didn't want to test that bond just yet. "I am sure we will see them flying overhead."

Watching to make sure the lines were good, she took a simple brown linen and shook it out. Carefully, she tossed it over a line towards the end and pulled it so it would dry faster. The green cloth was pretty and sure to be used for some important event or person. Catching the last part of the question, she nodded. "Yes, I stood for the last clutch. Very small but very exciting. Hopefully, this old man and his glass houses will help make our clutches larger. I will stand until I age out or Impress."

For just a moment the almost blonde haired girl whistled, the tune was somewhat perky yet not at all musical in beat, certainly not harper worthy at any rate. Threading her slender fingers through her shortly cropped spiked tresses Persephone cantered her head to the side and grinned warmly towards the other candidate. The sun overhead beat down upon both girls however the smaller of the two didn’t seem to mind in the least, even her faintly tanned skin seemed to be resistant to the heat from the dazzling glow; not even a single bead of sweat gathered at her brow.

Dipping her hands into the basket again Persephone pulled out a thick saggy brown fur, the soggy item felt heavy in her tiny childlike grip and fumbled a few times with keeping the parcel from touching the ground, gnawing on her bottom lip sheepishly the slim figured vintner adjusted the fur and placed it on the line with the utmost in care.

“Glass houses? I think I heard something about that back at the vineyard. I haven’t been here very long so I don’t know a lot about the Weyr. I actually still get lost all the time. It is sort of embarrassing,” straightening the damp garment with gentle motions the younger girl peered over towards Lyssa then offered a bright toothy grin. “I can’t wait for the next clutch. I am really nervous but also really excited. Ya know? Like I don’t know anything about dragons either, I was really shocked when I was Searched. I really hope that you Impress Lyssa, I really could see you as a wonderful rider. You just have that air about you, you seem really mature and you are so lady-like, I bet you’ll get a gold! Wouldn’t that be neat!” Merrily exclaimed the happy-go-lucky candidate in a bubbly tone, her vivid green eyes sparkled with jubilation and mirth.

“Do you think I might Impress a dragon? If I do I wonder what color it would be, aren’t their rules to the colors? Like only certain ones Impress to girls? I really wanna be good enough to at least Stand, and if I age out I will just go back to the vineyard. At least I will get to experience Weyr life for a while. Hehe, I might even find a girl to take home with me if I am lucky!”

Overhead the beating of wings sounded and instantly Persephone went silent and stared at the sky excitedly, twisting at the waist and pointing at the dragons overhead. "Lookie, Lyssa! Aren't they amazing!"

Lyssa watched Priss struggle with the brown fur and waited to see if she would drop it or ask for help. Taking out a lighter green sheet, she shook it a couple of times before tossing it over the line. Trying not to cringe as the other girl whistled, Analyssa thought for a moment before responding. Not from Benden but close enough to beholden to it, Lyssa almost snorted. "The glass houses could probably be used for all sorts of plants I would imagine. When we get snow here, it can sink into your bones. The dragons try to get as much sun as possible."

Fur hung and another sheet, the basket was almost empty and they would soon have to go get the other one. Hopefully, it was not as heavy as the one they were finishing. "Well, good luck. You never know who will Impress and who won't get a dragon. My brother Ja'syn was sitting in the stands with our family and the merchant he was training with when Brynth, his brown, was angry about him not being on the Sands. It was all rather funny, I was seven turns when it happened."

Grabbing the last of the linens, Lyssa allowed her good nature and friendliness to shine through as she replied. She watched as more dragons flew overhead and smiled. "I don't see why not. The dragon chooses, not anyone else. I have stood for several clutches and there are some who should Impress but never do and others, like my brother, who had no plans to become a dragon rider and look at him now! As far as colors go, bronzes will never Impress to girls and it is almost unheard of for a brown to either. But some blues might and so would greens. The nice thing about dragons is no two are ever alike in color or personality, just like people."
