Rhythm thought that today was going to be a great day, summer was coming to a swift end and the heat which had been so pestering the pack seemed to be waning somewhat. It was a far cry from the snow storm she and her siblings had been born into...but even better then the lessening heat of summer was the fact that they were all old enough to wander away from the central area of the pack lands now.

Or at least they were old enough to go a bit farther then they had always been allowed to go before - in fact mother and father had given them permission to go ll the way to the rive on one side and the meadow with the large rock on the other. She and Rhyme had made plans to visit the river today..not just to go swimming, which was fun enough, but because they both loved the sounds and patterns the water made as it rushed over the rocks. "Hurry up!" she encouraged her brother as she bounced around by the dens entrance. "I want to get there while its still early"

Rhyme was hurrying as fast as his paws would let him. They were still awkwardly big and sometimes he just couldn't get them moving right. Mom had said it was because he was going through a growth spurt and slowly the rest of him would get bigger to match those large paws of his. "I'm coming!" He said as he worked on getting all four of his paws to work together and was finally off and running. Now that he was moving he really couldn't stop until they reached the river.

So as he reached where his sister was bouncing about impatiently Rhyme yipped a challenge to her. "Come on I'll race you there! Look at me go I'm fast as a hare!" Rhyming his words was something he had picked up from his father, though he certainly did it more often than Verse. Trotting on past his sister Rhyme aimed towards the forest path that would lead them to the river, he was looking forward to a day of swimming, singing, rhyming and playing with his sister. Of all of his siblings he was closest to Rhythm, sort of like how their mother was very close to Uncle Derecho.

"If your a hare, then I'm a bird in midair!" She sang back at her brother - turning his poem lyrics into a song as she was apt to do, unlike their parents who liked to pester each other about which was better she and her brother merely used each other for inspiration. Rhythm though that was really the best plan anyways - Rhyme came up with some good poems and she made them sound pretty with her voice. It was the best of both worlds!

Tumbling after her brother, though she didn't have half his trouble with the big paws thing, mother said she'd grow at her own pace...or maybe she was just destined to be smaller then her siblings. Of course that made this whole race thing a bit easier on her since she wasn't tripping over her own feet every other step and she quickly caught up and drew even with her siblings, growling playfully and nipping at his flapping ear as she did so.

He let out a laugh as she sang back to him. See that right there was why he liked his sister over all his other siblings. Yes he loved them all but he and Rhythm had a special bond between them that none of the others could understand. Rhyme could hear her easily catching up from behind. She had the advantage right now being a bit smaller and not having to deal with awkward paws. But surely once this growth spurt was over with he would be the victor of a future race. He didn't really care if he won or lost, as long as he was having fun that's all that mattered and rarely did he not have fun with Rhythm.

Turning his head as he felt his sister nipping at his ears Rhyme lost his balance slightly and spend the next few steps stumbling to try to remain upright. Once he finally got his feet moving right again he barked happily at his sister. "Little miss bird you are flying so low, don't you know running along the ground makes you slow." With another laugh he started to run faster. "Listen carefully I can hear the river. Maybe tonight we will have deer liver." Not his best rhyme ever but trying to rhyme with river wasn't that easy.

"The thought of deer liver just makes me shiver!" She happily replied to her brother in a musical tone "Surely something better our parents will deliver..perhaps a hare flushed from its cozy lair" She finished up as they bounded along. It was really allot more fun to speak and sing in rhymes - at least with her brother, some of the other pack members wouldn't play along and that made things a touch more difficult.

Pricking her ears she could indeed hear the river up ahead and rounding a corner she yipped in delight as the water came into view. Perhaps they would find something spectacular to take home and show their parents, something special and rarely seen, uncle Derecho had once told her that one of their aunts had always enjoyed hunting for pretty rocks along the beach although said Aunt was now gone, still the story had been interesting,

Rhyme smiled widely at his sister. "A nice plump hare would be yummy, it would certainly fill my tummy." Any meal would be great but for the sake of rhyming he had to choose what would sound best. As the river came into sight Rhyme let out a howl of triumph. They had made it and other that a small amount of stumbling he had done so without his paws getting in the way. Oh the things they were do here today! It would likely be their parents coming to fetch them home that would be the only reason to leave.

"A day at the river will be fun I bet..." And then out of nowhere his big front paw caught on a rock and it sent him tumbling forward. There was no stopping his rolling and with a sudden splash Rhyme fell into the water. Luckily for him the river was slow moving at this time and the spot where they had went to was relatively shallow. Crawling out of the water he looked like a drown rat and smiled at his sister. "Even if we get a little wet." He continued his poem with a bit of a shrug of his shoulders and then let out a laugh.
