Sonnet had to do this himself, much as he wanted Chan there with him, after all it took both of them... But he had let her fall back asleep under the tree, he wanted her to rest, she needed it now especially as she was caring for more than just her needs. So he would talk to Maion and eface the music alone. Afterwards... as he was hoping that Maion wouldn't deprive his grandchildren of a father... He would get Chandra some strawberries, it was late for them but he knew of one place where they might still be growing. Some strawberries and her favourites, he was going to make sure he took good care of her. Glancing back to make sure Chan was still resting well he made a beeline for Maion.

Maion sat beside his mate Sengdroma, she was sleeping softly seeming to be much more tired lately... and after everything that had happened he wasn't surprised, she had taken on a kalona for him and he never wanted her in danger again. Eyes moving around the herdlands he noticed that several people were up and playing, some were training, some were swimming. All the foals seemed so much older now... nearly adults themselves, and Maion could help but hope for more foals around. He loved the chatter and excitment of foals, and hoped to one day have more of his own.... when things settled down properly. It was as he scanned that Maion noticed a particular purple coloured stallion approaching, Sonnet, the colt had been around the herdlands a lot lately... and Maion wasn't niave as to why. He doted on his daughter Chandra like a bee to a flower, it was sweet to watch and since the boy had been respectful enough to ask for Maion's permission to court Chandra he couldn't hold it against the lad.... even if it didn't sit well with him. It wasn't that Sonnet wasn't a good stallion, he was, it was more than Maion felt like he wasn't needed anymore, his children growing up and he feared soon to have families of their own.... what would they need from their old man then? Yet even as that thought crossed his mind he thought of Sengdroma, he could not deprive his children of the same love he felt for his mare with every beat of his heart. With a sigh he stood to his four hooves, doing his best not too disturb his sleeping mate as he headed towards Sonnet, it was clear from the direction and look upon the young stallions face that he was heading towards him... and even if he wasn't Maion wanted to talk to him.

Sonnet didn't pause when he saw Maion stand and come towards him, he wouldn't be the scared colt any more. He was Chan's mate and soon to be the father of her foals. His expression determind as he stopped having met up with Maion. Inclining his head respectfully, after all he might be determind to do this right and not seem as unsure as he sometimes was around the older stallion, but he still respected Maion a great deal. This was part of the reason he felt bad that he had not had chance to talk to Maion about being Chan's mate before bundles of joy were on the way.

Maion smiled softly at Sonnet, "Evening lad... " It was as he got closer and stopped that he noted a certain look upon the young stallions face, and it became clear that the boy had indeed been headed in his direction.... after all it was the look of someone who wanted to say something, though Maion had no idea what. "Nice evening isn't it?" Though in reality the night was nearly over... or would be before too long, already Maion could see the slight lightening that often came before the dawn.

Sonnet nodded, offering a smile to the stallion, it was hard not to smile back when others smiled at him. His nature wasn't for serious or somber expressions. "Yes it has been a lovely evening..." Eventful too, but he would get to that soon enough. Looking at Maion, unsure what was with the plesentries, but then he had no idea that he also wanted to speak with him. Though that was probably a good thing, Maion wanting to talk with him would just have made him even more nervous.

Maion nodded his head in reply to Sonnets words, and waited for a moment or two to see if the young stallion would spill the beans on the conversation he obviously wanted to have, when nothing came Maion decided he would go first. "I want to talk to you..." he started, a soft chuckle in his throat as he remembered everything that had happened since Maion had first met Sonnet.
Sonnet had been unable to fly... just like his youngest daughter Chandra, and so he had taught them both, he had watched them play and dance the freedom and innocence so pleasing to the eyes.... then he had also seen Sonnet in a more serious capasity, he had stood side by side with Maion and his protectors against the skinwalker threat... and from what Chandra had told him about the boys absence Sonnet had been trying to better himself. All noble qualities, and given the threats that seem to be developing all the time against the herd Maion was left with a need to keep it protected. They had been lucky enough so far not to have lost anyone, and Maion would do everything to keep it that way. "....how would you like a possition within the herd? A protector?" Maion would never have been offended had the boy said no, after all he had his own life and family to worry about and Maion respected that... even as he saw the relationship with Chandra and Sonnet blooming Maion knew he couldn't stop either of them doing as their hearts desired.
Though a small voice in his head whispered that he was doing this in part in the hope that Chandra would never leave the herd.

Uncertanty had crossed Sonnets face when Maion had mentioned wanting to talk to him, tohugh his Jaw almost hit his hooves at what he actually had to say. He gathered himself, clearly surprised at the offer, but his determind expression came back, it was rare for Sonnet to not be smiling so it was always easy to tell when something was important. "That is a very generous offer, but.... I think it best you hear what I have to say before you decide if that is something that you still want to offer me..." He hoped it was, as he would love nothing more than to raise a family in such a herd. Asking Chan to leave had never occured to him, besides hew knew his family were welcome to come and go as they pleased, it wasn't far. Taking a deep breath he decided to start with the news less likely to have him beaten to death. "I... would have told you this sooner... But with everything that happened I never had the chance.... Right before you were taken.... I asked Chandra if she would be my mate, and she agreed." Looking at Maion, everyone having been worried when he had vanished.

Maion raised an eyebrow at Sonnets words, he supposed he had been expecting a yes or no to his question.... and the words didn't help Maion's heart stop its racing as his mind tried to come up with an answer... was Sonnet going to tell him he was leaving? That would break Chandra's heart.... even Maion could see that, and Maion couldn't accept that as an outcome. Ever. Of course the young stallion didn't leave Maion in suspence for long.... and the outcome was far nicer than he had originally anticipated. In many ways Maion had suspected that this day would come, after all Sonnet had been courting Chandra for some time, so instead of commenting on that he simply asked, "Did you protect Chandra while I was.... away?"

Sonnet blinked, part of him wondering why Maion had asked such a dum question, but then he supposed in the end that was one of the things most important to Maion. His expression becoming serious again as he nods. " Yes, I would never let any harm come to her, no matter if you were here or not." He had barely left Chan's side since Maion had left and returned, which could be how they were now facing parenthood. But if there was breath left in him he would protect Chan.

"Good..... good." Maion said almost absentmindely and for a moment his mind was stuck in the events of that day.... the day he had been so sure he would lose everything, never to see his mates smile or hear his children's laughter.... with a shake of his head causing his mighty mane to dance and thumble around him he snapped back to reality. He focused on Sonnet, and smiled softly, "She could have done a lot worst than you... and...." he added slightly reluctantly, "...you make her happy, so I am happy. You have my blessing." It was then that Maion realised that since Sonnet and Chandra were now connected for life that Sonnet may actually want to take the possition within the herd afterall, and so without wasting any more time Maion asked, "Now to my offer.... son."

Sonnet almost winced, there was more he still needed to say but did he answer Maion before or after? He couldn't bring himself to accept without coming totally clean, his head hanging a little, having saved the best to last. "There is more.... Much as I want to accept I can't do so in good concience untill you have herd it all..." Looking up, he was not ashamed of things, he just wished in part of himself that he had been able to do this the right way. Looking up at Maion again, unable to not sound a little happy at the news, after all he was happy that him and Chan woul soon be parents. "Chandra and I.... are going to have foals..." This was likely the worst way to blurt the news out but it was a learning curve. "Your going to be a grandfather..."

Maion blinked. Maion stared. Surely he had misheard.... he was... going to be a grandfather. "I'm...... what?" He asked, stunned into near silence by the news. He had been expecting the mating announcement that had been logical after all after they had started courting each other.... but.... foals? So soon....? He blinked and blinked again, his mind working at million miles an hour. "My baby girl is..... pregnant?" he asked stunned, his eyes automatically seeking out the sleeping form of his youngest daughter. "Foals...." He said dazed, more to himself than to anyone in particular. Then he realised something, he turned his full attention back to Sonnet. "You knocked my daughter up? Before or after you asked her to be your mate?" He didn't know why it was important but Maion wanted it to have least been done in the right way.... after all he didn't want Sonnet to simply be sticking around because he had got Chandra pregnant.... that was not a good enviroment for the foals to be brought up in.

Sonnnet went a little red, though this was because of a surprising flash of anger, he had thought Maion would know him better than that. "What do you take me for? After..." Anger in his tone but he hadn't yelled, tohugh his words had had an edge to them, he felt a little offended that Maion would need to ask such a question. Looking away after his answer, trying to calm down, anger never helped, and Maion only wanted to protect Chan, he didn't deserve anger.

Maion raised an eyebrow at Sonnet, but his reaction was more than enough to wake Maion up... not the words, but the underlying anger. It was clear from everything that Sonnet had done and said in the past that he was a creature of honor and he truely did care for Chandra, he couldn't help it if Chandra just happened to be Maion's youngest. It was for all these reasons that a soft chuckle burst from Maion before he caught it, aware that laughter wasn't exactly the most approapriate reaction although it was an honest one. "Well... you have guts Sonnet, I will give you that." He smiled over at the young stallion before walking towards him and slapping him on the back with the tip of one of his wings, "Welcome to the family." In a way it was the only thing Maion could say, and even though he knew it would make up for the 'hurt feelings' he had caused he had only been trying to protect a daughter that, and Maion would have to grow used to the concept, didn't need him anymore. The irony was also not lost on Maion... he had been wishing only early that very evening that more foals would soon litter the herd lands.... well.... it seemed he got his wish. It really was true what they said, beware what you wish for. He looked to the Moon, "May the Moon protect you and your family...."
