Lattice wasn't sure just what she was going to do with herself because it seemed like every step she took forward she took at least three of them back and it was starting to get rather distressing for the ghoul who found herself the butt of some sort of massive social faux pas. Still she forced herself out of her room and outside and just kept walking, her bare feet padding along until she found herself at the maul. She'd always kind of wanted to go to the maul. The ghoul had heard that there were many stores within and perhaps she could find one with nice paper in it so she could write Needle a letter.

Straightening herself up and putting on a smile she ventured further into the maul in hopes that she'd find somewhere with a sign that had ink on it to tell her where she was.

...Unfortunately mauls didn't tend to have those. Glancing around where she stood her expression became that of being serious lost and a lot of consternation. She really needed someone to be her eyes.

West hadn't been to the maul in quite a while. He supposed he could forgive himself, what with the major distractions that had been the trip to the island, the prom, and finals. Surprisingly, this was one of the boil's favorite places to visit. There was food. There were interesting denizens of Halloween to glare at. There were clothes. West liked clothes. He hated washing them, but that's what his father's credit card was for. "Wear it once; throw it away," was the demon's clothing-related philosophy. He was dismayed to realize that he had worn his current pair of jeans at least three times. Oh, maul, it had been far too long.

Hands loaded with a warm bag of Mrs. Graveyard's chocolate chip spookies and a large snozberry soda, West rounded a corner and caught sight of the cause of one of his more recent moments of complete embarrassment. At least he was standing up this time so she couldn't possibly sit on him. Now what was her name? Lettie? Lattimer? Latisse? She looked like she was utterly lost. West sipped his drink. He sighed.

"Hey," he called, still a good fifteen feet away from the ghoul. "You lost?"

She startled slightly at the voice talking to her when she had least expected it, plus it was a voice she'd heard before only it was different this time around. The ghoul felt herself feel a rush of nerves flow through her before she spoke simply, "Not really lost...I am here for a purpose but...I cannot read any of the signs..." Lattice explained to the boil that she had once used as a (very comfy) seat on accident.

Lattice shifted a bit wondering if she should ask him to take on that duty or if she should seek someone else. It didn't seem like it'd be something he would wish to do. She felt awkward and uncertain what to do about this boil and she couldn't quite remember his name either. She lapsed into a silent until he either walked away or responded.

As the ghoul spoke, West moved closer until he was only a couple of feet away. He took another sip of his soda, then dropped the hand holding it to his side.

"What can y'see?" he asked. "Not demons'r chairs, I know that. An' what's yer name again?"

She seemed very uncomfortable. He was the only one around here who should have been uncomfortable. West sighed. He was well aware he hadn't treated her very sympathetically, but really, what did everyone expect?

"I can see them!" She insisted a bit too strongly, her cheeks flushed lightly. Lattice paused and then ducked her head shyly tilting her masked face away from the demon, "Just..not very well sometimes," she murmured more quietly.

Her fingertips pressed together and wiggled nervously at each other as she went on to explain, "I..I just see ink the best...Like tattoos and other such things. That's why I can't read many of the signs here because they aren't written in ink," she said softly hoping that he understood a bit better now.

"Sorry again," she shifted her weight from one foot to the other.

Huh. West smirked at the ghoul's little outburst. Interesting that she seemed so sensitive about her disability, but he probably would be too. Nah, he definitely would be. He liked seeing, thanks.

"Ink," he muttered. "That's... um..." He wanted to say weird, but he had already been about as mean to her as was satisfying. Unless she was going to throw a punch soon, prodding her further hardly seemed worth it. Somehow he couldn't see that happening.

"Don't worry 'bout it. So. Y'said you were 'ere fer somethin'? What is it? I could... uh... take y'there?" And leave you. There. That was nice-ish. Now what was this ghoul's name? He took another sip of soda, thinking back to the embarrassment that was Human Studies. Ah, yes!

"Lattice!" he bellowed. The hand holding the bag of spookies dropped and crunched against his side. "Tha' new split ghoul said it!" He knew he could remember.

Lattice had already started to calm down after her little outburst despite anything more West could say to her at this point. Thus whatever he had to say on the subject pretty much was gladly dropped in favor of what he said next. The ghoul didn't really want to ask him for help but if he was offering ... In a way she felt he owed it to her. Lattice wasn't usually one for self-entitlement but in this case she would gladly make an exception.

"If you wouldn't mind...Could you please guide me to the tea shop?" She asked quietly taking advantage of the generous offer put forth by the wrath demon. Lattice didn't particularly want to force him to stick around but chances were...

...She was probably going to find a reason why.

The ghoul startled at his outburst her eyes widening behind her mask, "P..Pardon you!?" she huffed lightly as she otherwise stayed in place, "but yes that is my name..."

"Jus' tryin' t'remember it was all," West grumbled. He had been pleased he had managed that much, since he had hardly been paying attention to names when they had first met, but her reaction had soured his fleeting feeling of pride. He frowned, taking a step away from the engraver. Without informing her of what he was doing, West turned and made his way toward the nearest trash can. He tossed his empty cup inside, then strolled back to the ghoul.

"Here," he said once he had returned to her side. West reached for Lattice's hand, intending to place it on his arm. He had no idea where this tea shop was, but he supposed that was what directories were for. Or, he could just ask her. "So, where issit?"

"O..Oh I see. I just didn't expect you to suddenly shout my name like that," she replied softly with her brow furrowing behind her mask. Was he always this excitable? She decided not to ask lest she loses her guide to the tea shop and that would be terrible.

Suddenly he sounded closer and took her hand she let him place it on his arm, "It...It should be somewhere in the east wing of the maul...?" Lattice directed as helpfully as possible.

As she waited for him to lead the way quietly, "Thank you very much for doing this for me...I..I know you'd probably rather be else where."

"Hrm," he replied. "I wasn't doin' anythin' else." West looked down at her hand and the sudden proximity of her spiky arm to his kidneys. "D'y'ever fight with those?" he asked, gesturing toward her needles. Realizing she probably couldn't see what he was pointing at, he added, "The spikes."

He took a look around their immediate vicinity in an attempt to gauge which wing was east, and once he had a fairly good idea, he headed that way, keeping his pace at a crawl compared to his normal agitated stroll. This seemed like a good enough guess. The shops here were getting decidedly less full of navel piercings and t-shirts emblazoned with images of comely rockers and considerably more sedate.

"Ah, I see," she replied quietly, "thank you either way. I still appreciate the effort."

After all he could just have ignored her from the very beginning and she'd be left to wander about the maul trying to figure out where she needed to go to get where she wanted to be. His question brought her out of her thoughts as he blinked behind her mask and gazed up toward him before she looked away again with a small thoughtful sound before she spoke up, "I could fight with them, yes. I just haven't had the chance to. They are not meant for fighting they are more like...signs of achievements."

She supposed that made them less interesting to a certain mindset.

Lattice pursed her lips before she added, "Though I would not hesitate swing my arm to harm someone if they earned it."

"Oh," he said, the sound leaning more firmly toward curiosity than disappointment. Lattice marked her life's achievements with needles through her arms. Anyone who didn't find that badass probably hadn't been paying attention in the first place. He smirked in response to her reply. "I'll keep that in mind. Whatta'bout th' tattoos?" he asked. West hoped they signified how many snakes she had mercilessly eaten whole. "If y'gotta stab people who ask about 'em, jus' pretend I didn't."

As they rounded the next corner, the tea shop came into view up ahead. The sight of it was quickly followed by its smell, a pleasant mix of, unsurprisingly, teas. West continued up to the door, then hesitated, reluctant to barge into such a peaceful place. "I can... leave y'here then?"

She gave a light chuckle in response to his words toward her not hesitating to use her arms in a fight. It was certainly something that he would need to keep in mind just in case he somehow ended up at her bad side in some fashion but for now they seemed amiable enough with each other not to warrant further talk lest it ended up sounding like veiled threats which isn't what she'd want. At least not right now.

His next question and then follow up phrase caused her to pause and utter a short laugh, "No, I do not need to stab others over my tattoos. My tattoos do have meaning behind them as they are essentially the symbol of my clan. When an Engraver is old enough to hold a needle steady in his or her hand they engrave tattoos upon their own skin in this very design though they often vary in style. It is more of a learning endeavor in a way." She paused when they came to a stop as she finished her explanation, "I hear there are books with tales about the tattoo's origins but the Elder jealously guards them and very few get to read them without proper permission. Though that doesn't stop supposed variations of the tale from being told and in fact the Elder encourages them..."

Then again the thing about the books could be rumors and the Elder is just hiding romance novels or something equally 'shameful'.

At his question she paused and then nodded, "Yes I will be fine to leave, I think. Have a good day, West."

Rituals, histories, customs. If wrath demons had these things, West had never had them drummed into him. Actually, the more he hung around with different students from this school, the more he realized that there was probably tons about his race that he knew nothing about. He was beginning to wonder if it was all some sort of experiment his family members were running to see how ignorant they could keep him. Or maybe it was just a game. He honestly wouldn't put it past them. West frowned, strangely thankful that Lattice was unlikely to properly see the expression. It wasn't really her fault, after all.

He lifted his arm away from his side to allow her to reclaim her hand, then stepped back with a nod."Sure... I've got things t'do so..." His tone was surprisingly neutral, but his next words came out much lower, as if anyone cared to listen to their conversation in the relatively noisy mall. "An', uh, school? I won't curse y'out if y'sit on me by mistake again." It certainly failed as an apology, but it was as close as he would come for now.

"Have a... good day too." Good luck with that in a tea shop.

She nodded as her hand went back to her side she almost didn't catch the next thing he said to her due to the lowered tone. Lattice tilted her head toward him and blushed faintly giving a small nod, "Thank you but out of respect for you and your lap I'll try to avoid such things," she smiled lightly at him and then bowed toward him a little. "Enjoy your time wherever you go."

Small pause.

"May our next meeting be as nice as this one," she said quietly and then wandered in to the teashop.
