It was not strange for Tazira to leave the pride's lands for days at a time. She blamed it on the gypsy blood that she didn't really have. Besides, it wasn't like she had to explain herself. If there was one thing she despised, it was being made to feel like she had to explain any decisions that she... decided on. Tazira did whatever she wanted whenever she wanted and as long as she didn't break any rules there wasn't a damned thing that anyone could do about it.
She'd been spending a lot of time with a female Thrall as of late. Mopani was a fiesty lioness that her brother had clubbed across the head (Mopani had not been impressed by Taraxa's finesse (he had none)). After laughing about her brother's prowess -- or lack thereof -- Tazira had enjoyed spending more and more time with Mopani. The lioness was easy on the eyes, as well.
Today was beautiful and bright, clouds slowly seeping over the horizon. A storm would soon be on its way, and Tazira inhaled the scent of the coming rain. Something else wafted towards her on the breeze, and Tazira snapped to attention, those bright eyes of hers narrowing as she tried to pinpoint the location of the smell.

Batarr'Ctyk flattened her ears at the oncoming storm. She had wandered away from her mother, brother, and sisters a few days ago and thanks to the last storm, had been unable to find her way back. Another storm coming would make it completely impossible.
Young though she was, Batarr knew enough that she should seek some kind of shelter from the storm hit, she didn't know what kind of shelter. Traveling with her mom, they had stopped in shallow caves, rock overhangs, hollow logs . . . anything big enough to fit them. For now though, the best Batarr could find were some low bushes. Squirming under them, she hoped that they would keep her dry through the rain.

Tazira spotted a flash of crimson against the monotonous color of the ground and she instantly moved towards the color. She wasn't quite sure what it was but she was determined to find out for herself. The rain was coming swiftly and while the ground thirsted for heavy rain, Tazira herself was not so fond of getting soaking wet. She would find out what the flash of red was and if it was nothing she would high-tail it to safety -- there was a cave nearby that Tazira had spotted earlier, and it would make perfect shelter against the oncoming storm.
Drawing closer to the shrubs that covered the crimson she'd seen, Tazira could barely make out a pair of pretty blue eyes. Narrowing her own brilliant green eyes, Tazira grunted. She could tell the lioness was young and Tazira felt sorry for her.
"Why are you hiding there, child?"

Batarr looked up at the lioness, too young and naive to be scared of her. "I lost my mom so I'm trying to take shelter until the storm goes over. Then I'll try looking for them again."
Batarr didn't think she'd have much luck finding them, having already been gone three days. But she didn't have anything else to do to keep herself going - and she was starting to get very hungry. She wasn't really good enough to hunt for herself.
"You haven't seen my mom, have you? She's purple and brown. And she's got my sisters and brothers, too. They're all purple and red and brown and black, too."

"I have not seen your mother," Tazira replied, gesturing with a paw that the juvenile should step out from under the bush. Tazira wanted to get a better look at her. "I don't think that bush will give you much cover. If you come with me I can take you to a cave, and once the storm has blown over I will take you to get a meal."
Tazira knew it was highly unlikely that they would find the poor girl's mother, but she didn't know how to say it outright.
"Now come on out quickly so we can make it to the cave before it starts raining. I hate getting wet. My name is Tazira, by the way. Yours is?"

"I"m Batarr'Ctyk. Mom named me after a hero." She squirmed out from under the bush. "Do you think we can get to a cave before the storm starts?"
Instinct told Batarr to trust adult female lions - they were like her mother. If it had been a male adult lion - well, Batarr probably would have been more leary of him, but in the end, her stomach and desire to be warm and dry would have overrode any misgivings that popped up.
"I don't like being out in storms at all. Mom knew how to find good places to stay dry, but I don't."

"Batarr'Ctyk," Tazira's tongue tripped over the name, and she raised a brow at the pretty little juvenile. "You got a nickname, kid? Batarr'Ctyk is kinda long and doesn't play nice with my tongue," Tazira chuckled and gave the younger female a once-over before turning in the direction of the cave she'd mentioned earlier.
She took off with a quick trot, merely assuming that Batarr would follow her to safety. The air smelled alive and Tazira knew that this was going to be one hell of a storm.

The younger lioness had to run to keep up with the older one, and breathed heavily as she tried to answer her question. "Well . . . my sisters . . .used to just . . . call me Batarr . . . when we were little." The first few drops started splatting into the dust and grass around them, and Batarr sincerely hoped that the cave was close. She didn't want another wetting.
"Where are we . . . going after the cave?" Batarr hoped the answer was to get food. Unless there was food in the cave. That would be even better. But unless this lioness could find her mom, she was going to need a new home, and she didn't want to be all alone. "Are there other lions there?"

Just as a big fat raindrop splattered against Tazira's nose, the lioness caught sight of the cave. "There it is Batarr." She sounded insanely pleased with herself, and she drew up into the cave just as it started pouring in earnest. The cave was slightly elevated so that water would not seep inside, and deep enough that they would not get misted by the falling rain.
After shaking dirt and errant raindrops from her fur, Tazira turned to Batarr once more. "We are going to my home-pride," Tazira said softly, gathering the young lion closer with a big paw. "There are many lions there. It is about a day's casual walk from here." She began grooming Batarr's damp headfluff, falling silent as the rain fell outside.

Batarr started purring when Tazira groomed her, and curled willingly against her. It had been too long since she was really clean. And if they were going to an area with lots of lions, she was sure it would be easier for her mother to find her there then just out wandering the savannah.
"It will be nice to live with other lions again," Batarr said, although she had only been lost a few days; it felt like much longer. "Are you going to be my new mom?"
Batarr felt herself growing drowsy, now that she was no longer nervous about the storm, and felt warm and protected. It felt very good to have a reliable adult around again.

"I am," Tazira whispered as Batarr drifted off to sleep, "and so will my companion, Mopani. She is the sweetest lioness you will ever meet, never was there a more gentle and beautiful mother that a cub could wish for." Mopani did have a way with cubs and Tazira did love that about the lioness.
"Now sleep, sweetling. Once the rain stops falling, we will go home."
Tazira could get used to this Mom gig. She loved to feel needed and also enjoyed providing comfort and adoration to those that needed it. Batarr, a lost and lonely child, now had not one mother but two who would dote on her.
Just like Batarr, and soothed by the rain, Tazira found herself drifting off to sleep as well.
