Cais hadn't been out and about in a while. Lately he had taken in too many projects and had spent many days sweating in the workshop while he toiled away. After several days of that he was due for a day to himself so he left early, taking an apple for himself to munch on while he began a solitary day of exploration and relaxation. Or so he had assumed.
Munching quietly as he passed through a web of small businesses scattered through the narrow streets he made his way slowly, admiring the early morning rush to open the doors and allow in the early bird shoppers of women and children. It was surprising to him how many there were; like a mob waiting to rush in and attack. Musing to himself he passed all of that and headed towards Main Street to see if there was anything he felt like buying.
With a light hum he moved quickly in stride, taking another bite of his apple to finish it off. It was a normal day thus far, if not a little boring. Cais frowned a bit at the thought and moved his arm back, tossing the apple idly forward as he concentrated at glaring aimlessly. Unknown to the distracted Lunarian, the apple core was flung farther than he had anticipated, hitting the nearest Lunarian square on the shoulder. With a thoughtful sigh he approached slowly. "Hm."

"And you can get it delivered there before dark?" Kiran asked, narrowing his eyes ever so slightly at the vendor to warn him that "no" would not be an acceptable answer to his query. He was on a schedule and needed to have all the lumber that he ordered delivered quickly or he would fall behind schedule. He cringed mentally at the yelling his boss was sure to give him if he didn't get his work done on time. But there was little he could do at the moment until the new shipment arrived. The vendor wouldn't have a long ways to carry it, but it would be a heavy load, especially with the addition of the lumber for his personal project. Kiran suspected it would take a couple of trips to cart all that lumber to his work.
The vendor looked a bit pale as he reviewed the order list. It was a lot to order all at once, but Kiran's boss was adamant about needing all of it right away. "We should be able to get it all there well before dark," the vendor said, masking any hint of doubt in his voice.
Kiran nodded, satisfied with the answer, and dropped the necessary coins into the man's waiting hand. "It's been a pleasure doing business with you." After a bow of his head to the man, he turned to make his way back through the crowd. He hadn't taken more than a step when he felt something whack his shoulder, leaving a somewhat wet spot where it struck. His gaze dropped to the ground, looking about his feet when he spotted the apple core. He bent to pick it up then stood again, looking for the one that threw it at him. He noticed another Lunarian making his way toward him.
His mother and sister's voices could be heard in his head, chiding at him for picking fights over stupid, little things. He preferred not starting a scuffle over something small where he tended to do a lot of business recently. Kiran took a deep breath as he frowned at the other Lunarian. "Have I done something to offend you to warrant throwing garbage at me?" he asked in a calm, civil tone as he held out the apple core to the Lunarian. While he didn't recognize the other at all, it wouldn't shock Kiran to learn that he had, in some way, caused offense to the Lunarian.

At the sound of contact he didn't look up and his eyes remained staring at the ground before him. It wasn't until he was merely a few feet in front of the victim of his random throw was even noticed, his voice startling Cais out of his daze. "Huh?" With a jerk of his head he glanced up at him and back down to the apple, feeling a sensation of embarrassment build up. He stopped near him and rubbed the back of his head nervously. "Ah, no. That was an accident actually." He muttered, glancing at the other curiously.
He could honestly say he'd never seen the other before, at least not close. Perhaps he had back at the Academy, though he'd never be able to remember that - not with how many Lunarians went there. He shrugged and bent down to the apple core, picking it up and tossing it in the nearest can. "I guess you could say it was a good throw though." He mused with a small laugh. "Even if it wasn't intentional."
Cais blinked and watched him. He seemed cool-headed which was comforting, though he still was uncertain if he was angry or not. With a stretch he crossed his arms, staring. "Sorry I guess." He said, glancing at his shirt. "I could try to make it up to you if it stained." He offered awkwardly. Yet again he found himself in an odd sort of situation.

It was nice to know that he wasn't getting pelted with trash because he had pissed off some Lunarian without even realizing it. He knew there were quite a number of Lunarian who weren't happy with him, especially if they realized he had lifted something of value off their person. That kind of incident tended to happen more often than he liked, always getting caught just when he thought he succeeded in taking the item unnoticed.
"Pretty good aim for an accident," Kiran said with a teasing smile stretching across his face. It didn't make him happy to get hit with the apple core, but at least this Lunarian apologized for it and actually seemed genuine in said apology. He knew there were some Lunarians who would just say sorry but not really mean it. Any anger still lingering in him over getting hit washed out of him, and he was glad that he didn't explode at the Lunarian over something small.
Kiran tugged at his shirt to get a better look at it. "It doesn't look too bad." He rubbed at the spot of mild dampness from the apple hitting him. "I think it'll wash out." Then he looked back up to the other, and a smile tugged at his lips. "The name's Kiran," he said as he stuck out his hand toward the other.

Cais smiled. "I do always seem to do best when it's not what I'm aiming for." There was a relief that washed over him and his body calmed itself, moving back into the relaxed state he'd wanted from the beginning. "I'm Cais." He said, extending his hand and taking Kiran's, shaking it firmly. "Glad it didn't, accident or not." He said with another smile before releasing his hand.
He seemed like a nice enough Lunarian, though Cais wasn't used to meeting others out on the street he felt inclined to talk to him further, since he had attacked him with a stray apple core. Cais stretched upwards and cracked his neck, letting out a happy sigh and stared at Kiran again. "Kiran, huh?" He began, looking around the nearby area. "Out shopping?" It was a safe enough question as he was also unaccustomed to small talk, but genuinely he was curious.
"Can't say I'd be one to want to get through these sort of crowds, not at this time of day." He went on with a shrug. "Unless there's something worth buying to wait for that is."

The smile remained on his face as Kiran shook the other's hand. "That always seems the way, doesn't it?" He never paid much attention to things like that: hitting something with good aim when throwing something unintentionally. But he was sure if he thought on it long enough, he might find a similar instance, or two, that related to himself.
"Ah, yeah," Kiran said, glancing about at the crowds filling the street. At such a hectic time of the day, it could be difficult squeezing through to speak with a vendor about purchasing something. "I would have waited, but I needed to get the order in quickly. If that lumber doesn't arrive on time, my boss will have my head." He made a cringing face as he rubbed one hand over his neck like he was imagining his boss trying to slice his head from his body.
He folded his arms behind his head, shifting his weight more to one foot. "Were you out shopping too?" Another Lunarian shoved past Kiran, nearly knocking him off balance. Kiran glared after the woman for a moment before turning back to Cais. "It seems like everyone's in a rush today." The woman hadn't even bothered to apologize for bumping into him.

Cais laughed. "That's the truth of it." He said before glancing down the street with Kiran. "Sales can do that to people I guess." The mention of lumber piqued his interest and he looked back at him. "Lumber, hm? And what is it you do?" He said, moving aside at the shoving Lunarian, casting a glare her way as she continued onward without a hint of remorse.
He shook his head. "Nah, not in these shops anyways. I'd only be after tools and if that was the case..." He trailed off, nodding towards the woman who had passed. I can't say I react well to those types, had a hat stolen the last time I tried to shop among a crowd." He rubbed the back of his head in a nervous manner, remembering that awkward affair. "There's not much I "HAVE TO HAVE", if you know what I mean."

Kiran raised a hand and ran it through his hair, pausing to scratch at the back of his head. He wondered when people started forgetting a little common courtesy, like apologizing for bumping into someone. He knew people could be busy. But was saying a quick "sorry" too much for them? His attention jerked back to Cais, and he smiled. "I've been working building boats," he explained. "I'm hoping to get good enough to build my own boat so that I can take it out and sail on the open waters." It still felt like a far off dream as he was still learning how to do everything properly, but even his boss admitted that he was getting better at it each day.
"Tools?" Kiran repeated curiously. "What sort of tools?" He looked Cais over, but appearances alone wouldn't give him enough to go on to make any kind of guess about what trade the Lunarian worked in. Kiran glanced back at the woman disappearing into the crowd as she continued on her way without noticing anyone that she carelessly bumped into along the way. "They aren't the types that give you a warm feeling," he agreed, frowning as he turned back. "That must have been rather frustrating." Hats had never been his thing, but the way people reacted whenever he stole something, he could get a small understanding of how it might feel to have the hat stolen.

A small smile lit his face to see the other's passion light up in him. "Boats, huh? That sounds pretty complicated." He said with a grin. "It'll be a great accomplishment, I'm sure. You always appreciate things better when you make them yourself, or so I've noticed." He said with a gleam in his eye. Artistry had a way of bringing him around to anyone, he began to rather like this Lunarian. "Plus you get to make it exactly how you want."
"I do glass work myself." Cais said proudly. "The tools are for etching and changing the design around a bit to make them more complex." He nodded happily, watching after the woman again with a shrug. "Yeah, well..." He couldn't really form the words he wanted to say, so he trailed off there.
"Can't say getting robbed is fun." He muttered, trying his best not to relive it. "Anyways, if you ever need glass work done for your boat, I'd be glad to help." He offered with a smile.

Kiran nodded. "It can be a bit complicated," he agreed. The ships that his boss worked on were large and required a lot more work. Kiran's mind boggled a little at the size of them. He was still struggling to perfect building small, one-manned boats that a single fisher, like himself, could manage. "But it does feel good when the whole thing comes together and I can say I did that." He grinned proudly. He had never done much with crafting, thinking someone like him could never manage to do any of it right, but he found building boats, at least, was something he could do.
"Glass work?" Kiran glanced at him as an eyebrow quirked up curiously. "Like," he made a twisting motion with his hands like he was molding the air into a globe. Then he frowned and reached up to scratch the back of his head. Glass work wasn't really something that he was all that familiar with. "What kind of glass work?"
"Probably not," he agreed. Kiran had always been more the type to do the robbing than to be the one getting robbed. But he probably wouldn't have liked it either if someone had stolen something of his, especially something of value. His gaze snapped down to the strands of beads dangling at his side, suddenly wanting confirmation that they were still there. "That would definitely be of great help." He smiled back, happy at the offer. He was still working on plans for his own boat, but it was always nice to have an offer of help if he turned out to need it.

"I can honestly say it'd be something far out of my league." He said with a smile, thinking of the large ships he often saw when he went diving. He wondered how many had come from where Kiran worked.
Cais snapped his attention back to him with a wide grin. "Yeah, more or less. Blowing glass to make bottles and ornaments, but we also make windows, stained glass and any other sort of odd request." He loved working with glass, it was one of his favorite pastimes, even if business hadn't been doing well with the family's shop as of late. At least he went to the lengths to do it himself, and he felt that was what made the hard work worth it. Looking at Kiran he assumed he must have a similar feeling towards boats, or at least the idea of building his own.
Cais shrugged the subject of stealing off. To add insult to injury the incident had been brought about by a girl who had later beat him up in a fight. He had no desire to dwell on it, but was happy to see Kiran react to his offer. "Glass isn't good for building boats, but if you need windows or something along those lines I could probably do it for you. No charge even since... well." He motioned to his clothes, though the spot of wet apple stain had dried.
"It's nice to meet another artist though, even if it's by attack." He laughed a little. Cais was feeling rather inspired by the meeting in itself, though cast a glance up towards the sun. Was he keeping the other? He didn't have anywhere to go himself, but knew there was work for many others. He looked back to him with a curious gaze.

"I thought so too, at first," Kiran admitted with a light laugh. His first day working on boats had been quite intimidating, and he feared he would royally mess up on something and get yelled at. But that first day had gone a lot smoother than he expected.
Kiran nodded along, not really knowing much about glass blowing, but it sounded interesting. "Is it hard work?" he asked curiously. He, of course, had seen some glass creations in the market place for sale. But he never saw someone actually blowing the glass to create any of those items. "If I tried, I bet it would just come out all distorted." He laughed, imagining the twisted, misshapen bit of glass if he ever tried his hand at it. "But I bet it's interesting to watch someone working on a piece."
"Some of the big ships do have windows. But so far, the ones I've worked on haven't had much need for glass work." His gaze snapped at the spot where the apple struck it. He laughed and brushed at it with his hand like he was knocking away a bit of dirt. "Oh, that wasn't anything to worry about. I don't think it warrants something for free." He didn't need anything right now, but if he ever did need something made of glass, he at least knew who to seek out for it.
"Does building boats count as being artist?" Kiran wondered with a laugh. He wouldn't have thought of himself as an artist, but he did enjoy the work of building boats. It was hard work but had somewhat of a calming effect on him. He caught the curious gaze that Cais gave him. "I still have some free time. Until all that lumber I need gets delivered, I can't continue my work." He sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I really should have ordered that lumber a lot earlier, before I ran out halfway through the boat."

"Well, everyone has their strong points, even if they don't recognize them right away." Cais said with a grin to match Kiran's laugh. He had felt the same way when he was younger and his father had often dragged him into the workshop. Nostalgia crept over him as he could still remember the fear that he wouldn't be any good at the family trade and had worried himself to weariness. "Still, I don't think going from glass to boats would be a good idea." He added with a chuckle.
An eyebrow perked up at Kiran's interest as Cais smiled slyly towards him. "Your whole body goes into it. Sweat and air, and even sometimes blood." He said, flashing a hand at him. "I still get burned sometimes dealing with the fire, but putting everything into it to hold it and shape it with your breath and tools... There's something really rewarding about when you finish." With a bright expression he seemed to stifle himself and gaze back to his companion. "Well, that could work out perfectly actually. A lot of it is about free-form, distortion can be used as self expression and that's really what it's all about, right?" He said with a nod.
Cais paused for a moment and put a hand under his chin in a thoughtful manner. "You sure? Not even for an ornament for one?" Tilting his head, he took a good long look at him and finally gave up. "I guess, though it really wouldn't be a problem. I like to dabble around and make whatever for whoever sometimes, so it's no problem for me." He said with a shrug.
"Well, it's expressing yourself right?" He said with a matter-of-fact tone, grinning wide afterward. "How much lumber does it take?" He blinked, thinking it over in his head. He'd seen so many ships, but could never be sure of how much it actually took to make it. Suddenly his curiosity spiked and he watched him again, intent on learning as much as he could from Kiran.

Kiran nodded. He never would have thought he had a strong point when it came to working with wood. But if he had never given it a try, he never would have discovered that he was decent at building a boat. "I guess sometimes you just have to try something out before dismissing it as something you can't do," he said as he rolled his shoulder. His mouth stretched into a grin. "Glass to wood. That would make a pretty big jump in types of mediums, wouldn't it?"
Kiran laughed, but not because Cais had said something funny. He laughed because he understood well about putting his whole body into what he was doing. "I hit my fingers something with the hammer," he admitted, but he was still new at this type of work in comparison to how long other people had been working at their crafts. "And splinters sometimes too." He glanced down at his hands like he half expected to see little slivers of wood pierced into the pads of his fingers. "Yeah," he murmured softly. "There is that great feeling of accomplishment after finishing something."
Kiran thought about that. Then he shook his head. He doubted anything that he made would interest anyone into buying it. "But I guess you can never tell until you try," he said, almost more to himself than his companion walking beside him. He admired the skills of others that could make masterpieces in whatever medium they chose, but he never considered trying himself, having a negative view on his own abilities in art. He glanced over at Cais at the question and shook his head again. "None of the boats I've worked on called for any type of glass work, not even an ornament."
A chuckle bubbled out of him as Kiran nodded. "I suppose it could be looked at as another form of expressing oneself," he agreed. After seeing some of the large ships that Bojing created, Kiran could definitely consider them works of art. "Hm, quite a bit," he said, "depending on the size."
