A gentle breeze danced through the air, rustling the leaves of the trees and breaking the silence that blanketed the lands. Small leaves weaved through the air, as others twirled down on to the dew covered ground below. Not a chirp, roar, or whinny echoed over the lands. Just the song of the wind and the sound of the rustling leaves. It was as if every creature of the rogue lands had vanished from existence, every except Avani that is. The silence, the smell of the morning freshly sprinkled from the rain of the night before, it was soothing to her and brought about an inner peace within her soul.

Slowly, Avani opened her sherbet eyes to watch as the sun started rising over the land. What was once shaded in darkness was now being painted in shades of oranges, pinks and gold. While night brought out the wonders of the stars that sprinkled the sky she felts that nothing truly compared to the beauty of the rising sun and the start of a new day. The lioness knew that soon enough the silence would be broken as the sun started heating the land and the other creatures started moving around once more.

Her eyes flicked as a bird flew over head. Yes, things were starting to spring back to life again. Avani knew that at some point she would have to move from her spot and start off on her own day, but she was in no rush. It wasn’t as if she had anything important to do anyway.
“I wouldn’t even know where to start…”

it had been a long and rather strange night for the young male. Having left the pride where he had been born only a few days ago, he was still trying to adjust to life out on his own. Sure, he had sen his brothers as he had left but gradually they had all gone their separate ways and yesterday had see the last of them take their own path, leaving Athelas truly alone for the first time in his life.

He had not been banished, nor had he actually left his pride, he was out on a mission.. his Coming of Age, something that had caused him no small amount of worry. He was adamant that he didn't want to take any female unless she was willing to accompany him, but he could not see a single reason as to why any lioness would wish to join him and be his banu. He was young and no doubt far weaker and far less experienced than the rogue males. To say he felt out of his depth would have been an understatement. Still, his brother Roz had been so excited for this whole thing, it gave Athales a small measure of comfort and hope that the whole affair may not be as nerve wracking as he feared.

Sighing softly and watching his breath puff briefly in the cool dawn air, the young male shook dew from his dark mane and resumed along the path he had picked as the moon had sunk to the horizon.Since he hadn't been able to sleep he had decided to keep moving, as walking at least gave his body something to do even if his mind was free to imagine the many ways he could be rejected by the rogue lionesses out here. Blinking past the dawn haze he suddenly paused, one front paw raised slightly. Was that a lion a short way along the path? Maybe... swallowing his heart back down into his chest he pressed on, relief flooding his sleek body as he realised it was a female. At least she would be less likely to attack and eat him... he hoped.

Raising his head and, he hoped, his voice, he called out to her. "Greetings."

Hunting was the first thing that came to mind for the lioness as she attempted to make some kind of mock to-do list in her head. However, as she went by everyone she could do she realized there wasn’t much she actually had to do besides making sure to get at least one meal in at some point during the day. The reality of her lack of work sank Avani’s heart a bit. Was he life really that boring? Did she really just do the same old things day in, and day out? No, it wasn’t that her life was boring, but more along the fact that her life was empty.

She had no one. There was no family by her side. She had no mate or kids. She hadn’t made any friends to speak of, and she didn’t have any sort of small companion by her side. Silence and nature had always been her ‘friends’ in a sense. They were always there for her, distracted her, and brought about an air of peace during the tougher times. But, like anything in the world, she knew they could not last forever. They could only mask that hole for so long, because eventually Avani would have to seek ‘real companionship’.

Giving a light chuckle, the lioness smiled and shook her head at her own thoughts. It was an amusing way to start her morning, to get lost in such deep and serious critiques of her own life.

“I really do need to get out more.” she said as rose to her paws and gave a quick stretch.

Just as Avani took a step she was stopped by the sound of another voice. She looked back to see the figure of a young male, an adolescent by the look of his mane which had yet to fully grow in. By the looks of it she could clearly see that he wasn't giving any signs of being a potential threat, but Avani knew that looks could be deceiving, especially if it was out of the ordinary. Then again, maybe the Gods were messing with her for her previous thoughts.

'Wouldn't that be amusing...'

Rolling her eyes, the lioness let the thoughts go and turned her attention back to the male.

“Well hello there." she said while taking a step towards him. "I never thought I would see a young lion running around at this time of day. I would think most would be sleeping around until the sun blazed over the land. Is there something I can help you with? You’re not lost, are you?”

Considering he was still moving forwards, one paw placed in front of the other, and she hadn't run screaming at the first sight of him, he could slowly make out more details about her. He felt his heart instantly leap into his throat, for she was indeed a very feminine... female... He couldn't help but blink at her delicately patterned body and that glorious shock of golden mane.

Oh god oh god oh god Did the pride seriously think he could attract someone as stunningly beautiful and clearly mature as her? He was in so much trouble...

Pausing a she called out to hi, one fore paw lifted in mid air, he had to force his lungs to resume breathing, ears flicking forwards a little nervously. "Umm.. no.. well.. no, I am not lost... " Flattening his ears as his own complete and total failure to speak sensibly he knew he was going to disappoint his family and return empty-pawed, if this was how dumb-struck he got in the presence of his first rogue female.. "I don't tend to sleep much.." Wincing at himself he knew he sounded beyond lame. Gathering what bits of scattered courage he still possessed, he padded towards her, stopping a few yards away so they didn't have to shout across at each other. "I'm actually searching for someone. I come from the Ukuchaa'wafalme."

The lioness couldn't help but smile as she did her best to hold back a slight giggle of amusement. She didn't mean to be rude or anything, especially since for all Avani knew the young male was just naturally nervous, but some things couldn't be helped at times. It was as if she was watching a teen trying to ask a crush if she would go out in a date with him. It was just that cute to watch him fumble over his own words.

"I see then." she said as her ears flicked at his last statement.

She didn't know much about the different prides that roamed the lands, but Avani had heard a few things about some of the bigger prides like the the Ukuchaa'wafalme. Though, all she really knew about them was that fact that they were like a bunch of different 'prides', or families wrapped up in to one giant pride.

"Searching for someone you say?" she asked as she jumped off her perched and stepped closer to him to get a better look. "And what exactly are you searching for? Is it anyone specific, or..."

She took a moment to look around as she paused. A gut feeling told her what the young male's journey was all about, especially since it wasn't too uncommon, but she still had to ask. "Or is it more like someone still unknown to you. Maybe I could help out in some way? Though I don't know what I could exactly do for you. How long have you been on this search?"

He saw her trying to hold back her smile and winced inwardly. Not only was he lame, he was apparently laughable as well.. a double-blow to his already deflated confidence. He felt his cheeks heat up and hoped desperately that she couldn't see his blush through his fur.

He nodded at her reply but was not so much focused on her words as her manner. If only I was that confident and relaxed when meeting a stranger, he thought wistfully, knowing she was so out of his league it was silly to consider trying to win her, but unable to help the little nugget of want that was forming in his chest. He admired her already, her relaxed, confident manner, that sparkle he could see glimmering in her eyes as if she was holding back joyful laughter, yet there was a grounded feel to her, as if she had been everywhere and done everything.

Suddenly he realised that she had guessed exactly what he was after and shame coursed through him. He was in so much trouble... this whole finding-a-banu-thing was going to be painful.... Gathering what was left of his wits he nodded, and managed to resist the urge to turn tail and flee into the tall grass, though the gods knew he wanted to.

"Uh... I guess.. you could call it that." Blushing he lowered his eyes at last, knowing he was making a complete and total fool out of himself. How did you go about asking a strange female to be your banu? Did you even ask them or did they ask you... or was he going bout this all wrong and there was some kind of secret the older males knew but hadn't told him? Though what that may have been he could not guess... a secret handshake maybe? Realizing he had been staring at his paws he quickly looked up and met her gaze. "I've only just started..... my brothers and I left our pride a few days ago. Um... I don't suppose you know where I might find.. " Females? banu?.. what the heck did you call girls you wanted to take home with you?! "... a mate?" The word was out before he even realised it, and the moment the syllables hit the air he knew he was doomed. Utterly. Completely. Doomed.

Avani fell silent when the question left the adolescent’s mouth. Did he really just ask such a thing? She never imagined she would have to answer such a question until she was a mother, but she couldn’t just ignore the question. To leave ones pride with no idea of how to get a mate, especially when he might not even be able to return until he got one, she could not imagine such a thing.

I guess the least I can do it help him out from a female’s point of view.

“Well, it is easy to just find a female, but possibly making her your mate is the hard part. If you want a female to be your mate then you have to know how to, well…woo her. You know, be nice to her, make her feel special, make her feel safe, just do what you can to show her that you are good mate material and will do everything to provide for her. “

Yes, that was enough advice, right? At least it would enough to help him make the first step on his journey. Though learning how to win a female over takes time, so hopefully he has enough for that.

"Hm, hey, why don't you show me what you got?" she said while stepping closer towards the young male. "We could maybe do a bit of a roleplay? I be a practice female and you be, well you, and you can show me how you would convince a girl to follow you back to your pride. Maybe I can give you a few pointers along the way."

He had honestly expected her to either laugh at him, or scoff and stalk off. After all, he had to sound crazy, having met her but five minutes ago and already he was asking such strange questions. So when she actually considered his words and responded with thoughtful constructiveness, he nearly lost his jaw in shock. After recovering what composure he possessed, he listened attentively, honestly wishing to learn anything she may be able to teach him. Her advice sounded reasonable and solid enough, and he had known his journey was not simply to find a woman for his pride, but to become a man as he went on his journey.... He just hadn't realised how daunting such a thing was going to be.

Suddenly his thoughts were cut in half by her next words, making the young male look up, eyes a little wide. "M-me.. practice on you?" His mind froze up as she stepped closer, giving him a deer in headlights expression. Oh god, oh god... I am so screwed.. How was he supposed to 'practice' on a female he had only just met, and not only that, but that he kinda liked? It seemed while she had been giving him the advice, he had fallen for it at the same time.

Clearing his throat he knew he could not look that much more ridicules in her eyes that he did already. So what did he have to loose? Except maybe his chance at actually winning her over one day... Sighing softly as he knew just how remote that possibility was, so he nodded. "I-I guess we could try." Glancing about he wondered if he had to start all over, but it seemed even more silly, so he stayed in place. Clearing his throat he looked back at her, dying of embarrassing inside but still he stood there and met her gaze.

"Hello ma'am." Well.. it was a start, right? Greetings first, even he knew that.

Waiting, the lioness could not help but wonder how many other adolescents like the one standing before her were running around on the same task he was. It was one thing for a young man to be sent out to make his first lone kill, another to prove his strength by fighting one of his brothers, but to be sent out on a task to gain the paw of a female, how strange yet not to strange. Gaining a female is a sign of strength in a way, at least to some. It showed maturity, that the male was deemed fit and good enough to be seen as a protector and provider of sorts.

But then again young males are rarely the kind that hold such requirements unless they are trying to woo females their own age. And everyone knows at such an age stupidity, over confidence or their lack of is such a common thing that can easily mold further in to adulthood if not handled right.

Smiling, Avani carefully watched the young male fidget and struggle in his new role. If anything is personality showed he would some day, if things played out right, he would surely grow to be a good man.

Tch, Ma'am, well don't I feel like my mother now. If I'm going to do this then I might as well have fun with it. Let's just hope I don't break him.

"Why hello there young man." Holding back a mischevious grin, the lioness slowly started the circle the young male, her tail flicking back and forth too gently tap against him. "And what would bring such a cute little lad in to my presence on such a fine fine day, hm?"

Her smile was nice.... actually, it was really rather pretty and it suited her. For a brief moment he forgot about their roleplay and the task he had actually come all the way out here to accomplish. But then she started to circle round him and he froze again, the softness she had started to instill in him fleeing as sheer panic overcame him. It seemed not only was she actually a stranger to him, but that was going to play as the kind of female he had the least confidence in winning over, a mature, talented lioness who had little need for a bumbling adolescent like himself.

Still, she had been kind enough to agree to help him and he didn't want to let her down. So, taking a deep shuddering breath he gathered what little wits he had remaining and faced her, even if he did jump at the light brush of her tail tip against his flank. He opened his mouth to reply but for the worst second of his life, his mind went completely blank. Then words spilled out that he had absolutely no control over.

"Well, I was rather hoping to get to know you a little better."

Blinking as he heard his own voice repeat something he had heard within the pride at some point in the past, he went hot from the tips of his ears to the end of his tail, blushing furiously under his fur. Even he could tell that was the worst pick-up line ever spoken. Why he had recalled such a thing in the moment of panic he had no idea, but he was fairly sure he would never live it down now.

Flattening his ears he looked at her apologetically, mumbling something under his breath about not intending to say what he had.

“You would love to…get to know me better?” she whispered to herself as she settled next to the young lion, her face appearing blank, and yet a thoughtful spark swirled in her fiery orange eyes.

The lioness didn't know whether to smile or snort at this point. It was clear that the boy had not meant for such words to escape his mouth, and that it brought about a sense of embarrassment and worry, which could only mean he figured his statement had a rather, well, flirtatious meaning to it. If that was the kind of stuff the adolescent was picking up and being taught, then she couldn’t wait to see the rest of the stuff still put away in his arsenal. If anything it would just set up more moments of amusement for her, especially since she didn't think anyone used such lines anymore unless they figured they were just that smooth and sexy. Tch, yeah right.

But still, Avani knew she could easily twist it around to be a rather innocent statement to strike up some small talk. It was, after all, something that could go both ways depending on the tone in which it is used. So with a shrug and smile she turned her attention back to the young male and just kept things simple.

“Well, if that is how you want to start, then I am happy to oblige. What to you wish to know about me? No, wait, I think an introduction is in order, no? I don’t believe we have gotten to that point yet. My name is Avani’ Nona, but you can call me Avani if you wish. And what may I call you?"

He almost flinched at her whisper, knowing he had made a total fool out of himself. It was not that he had absolutely no confidence in himself, but he had to admit that being out here, in the roguelands, was a lot different to what he had thought to expect, and the young male with a slowly blooming confidence in the pride had been totally stripped off all his support systems, the structure and security of his home... and he was floundering out here. But he was still his father's son and he would not disgrace his patriarch.

So when she allowed him to keep his dignity -he knew she was choosing the nicer route for their little 'role play- he gave her a warm smile of gratitude, and for a brief moment the awkward adolescent vanished and in his expression shone the promise of the lion he would grow up to be in the not-to-far future. Even when the expression vanished, returning to the nervous, rather out of place youngster he currently was, he seemed a little more calm, floundering a little less than he previously had.

"It is a pleasure to meet you, Avani. I am Athelas, from the Ukuchaa'wafalme." He nodded towards the horizon in the direction from which he had been travailing, indicating where his home lay. Pausing he glanced down briefly, catching the nerves that still swirled about his stomach but then they settled as he caught hold of the conversation. "I am assuming you are a rogue... whats it like?" he seemed genuinely curious about her answer, rather than just asking for the sake of politeness.
