The Negaverse General was trying to be careful with her energy signature, just in case. Since tonight she was hunting civilians for some simple energy gathering, she didn't have to spend all her time powered up to accomplish her goals. Instead, she was setting things up the old fashioned way.
She pulled the rope as hard as she could. The pulley gave to her will and grew taunt with the trip wire.
The classic stuff was always her favorite. Still, tonight she wanted to see if she could lure a senshi to her. To do that, she had to set a simple trap to catch her bait, then use it for something more fun. A rope that would pull the human upside down and leave him hanging for her to drain his energy.
Simple.
Then she would use that person as bait. She could set up something more elaborate, and far less comfortable for the civilian of course, but that was just a sacrifice they would have to make. For the Nega cause, and all that good stuff. And for Painite's fun. she didn't go out of her way to kill civilians, but if it happened...
Well, there were always more.
Once everything was set, Gently skittered to hide. She hadn't powered up yet, but she would once something tripped her trap. She had placed a stuffed animal in the middle of the rope, and supplied the 'injured puppy' sound effects herself. It was down the end of an alley, but there was enough light from a lamp above to see the 'dog' laying on the floor atop a newspaper. The rest was hidden from view.

A young man with teal hair almost sped past quickly. School was not officially back in session, but that did not mean that the Hillworth faculty were very forgiving about arriving at the facility past curfew.
However, something managed to catch his attention.
Though the person who had set up this little display probably had different plans for why a person might stop, the young man could not help but pause in step and take a look back.
Certainly, there strange animal sounds coming from what he had just passed. However, what was on the ground was not fooling him. It was a decent quality toy, the fake fur seeming quite fluffy, but it didn't have the natural sheen that one would see with legitimate hair. If he hadn't been in such a rush, he might have noticed the newspaper a bit more readily. Yet, he did not think anything of it and stepped forward to pick up the stuffed animal.
"Does this belong to anyone?"

Painite didn't mind if he believed her animal or not, or if he had figured out that it was just a toy before he picked it up. The details, at least like those, were not that important in the long run. After all, the most important fact remained: he had still picked up the toy.
And put himself right on the newpaper.
Powering up, she gave the rope a mighty tug and the trap sprung, the ropes closing around his ankles and hauling him upside down. Tying the rope off, she grinned and moved out from the hiding place and into the alley, admiring the look of her work.
So classic, a scene she had witnessed many times before, but never lost its draw.
"Oh, thank you," she cooed, swishing her way around him so he could catch a glimpse of her as she passed by. The way the rope was swinging, she imagined he would have a hard time focusing on anything.
"You found my dolly for me! Such a sweet boy. How ever can I repay you?"

Well, so much for making it back to Hillworth before curfew. If anything, this was only ensuring that he'd not be able to go out for a week as a result of this snafu. He had been whipped up into the air, the world instantly going upside down, leaving him dangling above the concrete. It definitely was not the ideal scenario.
The hair from his ponytail and bangs were both dragging against the ground at the very tips, no doubt getting absolutely filthy. Yet sadly, compared to some of the torment he got from the rougher students at Hillworth, this wasn't too bad. It was still bad, but not nearly as bad (in his opinion) to the daily swirlies. He had learned his lessons well at Hillworth. Struggling didn't exactly get you anywhere in this sort of situation.
The blood was already rushing to his head, causing him to flush as he dangled there like some cat's toy, but then he heard a voice. At first, when she merely thanked him, he was not certain if his ears were playing tricks on him. Yet, when this woman continued on, he was definitely quite certain as to what he heard.
"I take it you are from England or spent much time there when you were younger, yes?" His own words had an elegant English accent woven through them.

Painite looked surprised, but was behind him so he couldn't see the look. She squinted at him. Why did her victims always want to talk about her accent? Were British voices really so fascinating?
"A very perceptive ear you have there," she said languidly, moving to stand in front of him and bend so she could put her face, turning it upside down, in front of his. She grinned at him, her short hair no where near the floor like his was.
She at least noticed that he had an accent as well, the second time he spoke.
"I see. Another fellow from across the pond. How nice. So tell me, do you have a habit of walking down dark alleys when there are all manners of dangerous things lurking?" She put her hand on him, drawing a little of his energy.
She was going to leave him hanging upside down for a senshi to find when he was properly out of it.

Howl felt slightly uneasy after the woman essentially showed herself, even tilting herself upside down so he could see her face quite clearly. There were a few ways to interpret it. This could mean all of this was a simple prank, so she was unafraid of showing her face. It could also mean that whatever she was planning to do, she was not worried that he'd report her to the authorities. Maybe he'd not find any harm in what she was doing, or perhaps she was going to make it so he was unable to report her.
He did not quite feel at ease with that last hypothetical.
Despite his worries, he continued along with the conversation as if there was nothing wrong. Nope, he wasn't hanging upside down with his hair getting absolutely disgusting from the sidewalk dirt. Nope, not at all.
"I should hope that I would be able to recognize what I am more familiar with." He offered what sounded like a genuine laugh before she placed a hand upon his arm.
"Alas, I do not make a habit of it, but I was running a bit behind schedule. I was aiming to make it back to school before curfew, yet I suspect this will prevent me from achieving such a goal." His lips curled for a smile.
"Might I ask what all of this is for? Is this some sort of prank show? Or do you have a greater purpose with such a set up?"

Painite grinned at him, as if she could read his mind. Of course, she couldn't, but she could see the expression on his upside down face. Not asking her about where she was born now, it seemed.
Or not.
"I think you're right about that. You're just going to have to be a little late getting back tonight. If you get back tonight at all." She wasn't planning on killing him, though that sometimes happened in the course of a good plot. No, she was planning on letting him hang there until a senshi came to find him.
Or a knight. Then she could steal a starseed and begin the collection she so lovingly imagined.
"You don't need to know any of that, little lady," she teased, kicking at his hair. She continued to drain his energy from him, wondering if she might get a senshi to come if he was screaming in pain.

He did not like the way this woman was phrasing things. In the slightest. "If you get back tonight at all" was quite a grim statement in his opinion, though many of his classmates might have taken that to be quite a bit more sexual than it should have been interpreted.
"I am quite certain you already know I am a young man, not a lady," he stated in a rather calm tone. His voice and his lack of curves usually were enough to give him away. "I would also like to be able to give some sort of validation as to why I was not able to make it back to school in a timely fashion. If you could please be so considerate and explain to me why I am hanging upside down, I would greatly appreciate it."
He wasn't certain why, but his head was starting to feel a bit dizzy. Perhaps it had something to do with the fact the blood was rushing to his head, or maybe it had something to do with the energy that was getting stolen from him.

Painite grinned at him.
"There's that sharp, perceptive wit of yours," she laughed, teasing him. She did know he was a boy, which was of course why she wanted to comment on his long, flowing hair. Which was now slightly dirty, like a new broom getting put to work.
"You're hanging upsidedown because you walked into a trap," she said plainly, as if surprised he had even asked. "You couldn't figure that one out on your own? No wonder you walked into it, then."
She kept her hand on him, slowly draining his energy. She stepped it up just a bit, enough to make him feel a new wave of dizziness. Stronger.
"And you're going to hang there for a long while. We'll see if anyone is in the mood to save you tonight."

She was most definitely taunting him now. Even with a slightly dizzy feeling to his mind, he could gather that much by how she simplified her explanations to point out what he had already noticed.
Casually, he attempted to swat her hand off of him as he felt a slight pang in his temples. Did she really need to be holding onto him like this? Despite his discomfort, he was able to pick out some good information.
"...so I am being used as live bait?" If this woman hadn't mentioned the fact she was looking to see if anybody would save him, he might have predicted she wanted to use him as youma bait. Given the verb save, he promptly decided there was only one thing that he was being used for.
"I take it you are using me to lure a senshi to you, Miss?" His encounters with the senshi to this date had been relatively few, but each time, they had saved him.

"You are! At least for now," she hummed enigmatically. It was probably safe to assume she didn't mean his status as bait was the part liable to change. It was the 'live' part she was playing at again.
Always fun, teasing helpless civilians.
This one seemed particularly calm, and she wondered how often he got into messes like this. Maybe she would be doing him a favor, finally finishing what any other monster or Nega had apparently not yet done for him. But she had no reason to kill him, unless a senshi showed up and she needed the bartering tool. Or to make a point.
She didn't tell him that, though.
"You know about the senshi, huh? Well, that's good. Maybe someone you know will pop in here to help you. You wouldn't happen to be one of them, would you? That would save us both a whole lot of work." She summoned her weapon to her, a long, dangerous looking javelin. The staff on one end was pointed, and the head of the other was fitted with a large spear head.
She poked the sharp tip of it to his chest, not draining him for the moment.

The intent of her meaning was not lost on him. His lips straightened into a line as he seemed to judge how serious the woman was. Her voice was definitely quite chipper, and mischievous, as if she was some sort nymph. However, based upon physical appearance, it was quite obvious she was no nymph. The short hair was probably the main thing that had swayed him, since short hair was a much more tomboy-like trait.
A tomboy who seemed to rashly assume things, seeing as she had seemed to pull a weapon out of nowhere (she probably had picked it up from the side somewhere, his head was a bit hazy at the moment). Fortunately, the end he was getting poked with was not the blade, though he still let out a small oomph in discomfort.
"I know of the senshi. I can assure you I am not one of the senshi. I also know of the youma. However, that is about where my knowledge of these subjects end."
Carefully, he attempted to move the point that was jabbing him in the chest. "I would appreciate it if you were a bit less rough... I do bruise quite easily."

"That sounds just like something a senshi might say," Painite said whimsically.
Would a senshi admit their powers? No, of course not. They would have to be forced to. Now how would she get him to admit something like that? She couldn't just catch random civilians and torment them until they finally admitted they were senshi. That would take forever. She just lucked out with this guy, who seemed to know too much.
Thinking like that, though, she got an idea.
"If you don't tell me the truth, I'm going to have to go put some innocent people in danger. And leave you hanging there. Can you live with yourself if you let people get killed just to keep your cover?"
It was a good question, she thought, but she was convinced she had one. She must have. Too bad she would be disappointed there.

This woman obviously had a preconceived notion as to what was truth and what was not. The facts were simple. He had just told her the truth and he was getting accused of not telling the truth. Apparently he was a senshi, just like Miss Virgo, Miss Vanadis, and Mister Boreas, at least according to the pixie-haired woman.
His voice remained calm still as he then offered "You mean you will put innocent people in danger until I tell you a lie and confess to being something that I am not. I just told you the truth and you did not believe me. Though you would not believe me, it would seem, until I have a lie detector hooked up to myself." It took a bit of work, but the lad crossed his arms across his chest as he still remained upside down.
"I do not know what your intent is, but you are definitely not doing your cause any favors by rashly accusing a stranger who happened to get caught in this contraption of being a senshi."

"Well, I'm alright with that scenario, too," she said with a devious grin. And she was. If he wasn't a senshi, which she was still sure he was, then he would just be responsible for hurting a few other civilians like him. No harm, no foul for her, as far as she was concerned.
Just a lot of energy.
"I don't have a lie detector handy, but I do have a pointy stick, I have you hanging upside down and, judging by that shadow at the end of the alley, I have someone who is about to get into a whole lot of trouble for you."
She shrugged her shoulders and bounced toward the source of the shadow. Before long, with some loud sounds of protest and a shuffling. She returned, dragging the body of a man, his chest bleeding. He was unconscious. She dropped him on the floor at Howl's feet, then stood next to him. she had her javelin in hand, the sharp end of it poking into the man's chest as she leaned on it lightly.
Her bright eyes focused on Howl.
"This innocent person is in danger. What was it you were going to do?"
