Lucia:
Luci lay just outside of her parents' den, tossing a bit as she tried to find a cool spot. She'd tried going to sleep with her brothers and sisters as usual, but it seemed more hot than usual, so she had gone just outside in an attempt to find a cooler sleeping spot. Needless to say, it had worked for a little bit, she'd managed to drift off, but staying asleep was the more difficult thing. She was more in a light doze than anything.

Kowab'akmar:
The times he tried- he was always caught and mostly by one of his siblings or father. Or when mother had nightmares and father had to wake and found him in mid-step but this time, was different... This time, there was a calm in the air that called him to run and he didn't look back or fret. Just went for it.. The sands were easy to hide in and it was with determination that he went through the pride's ruins. Hiding in the cracks then darting.. As if he knew where she was.. No.

He didn't know, exactly where but he had met a lady before that said that her den, Luci came often when her den was tied. She even allowed him to follow her around and hid him last time he was almost caught in the lands. She...adored children she said.. Just never had any of her own. So he went to her den and hid by a ridge between the sand and broken ruin.. in wait.

Lucia:
Luci finally awoke with a start, tired and annoyed. Her mama and papa might have worried, but she left her bottle and harness by the door. It was something she had started doing, whenever she went to her uncle and aunt's without telling them first. She wasn't sure if her papa liked her spending as much time as she did with his brother, but she didn't think he minded enough to tell her no. He hadn't done so, at least.
With a heavy sigh, she stood, left her possession just inside the entrance and headed towards the other den. It wasn't far, but it wasn't really close either. After healing, her uncle had intended to return to his pride, to make sure their family was safe from the bad lions there. But her other aunt, his sister Ela had found him and gone back instead. Since then, her uncle had married Ebio, a healer and a nanny of the pride who had helped treat the wounds he had received before coming here. And it was her den he had moved into, with their adopted daughter, Zhen.

Luci yawned as she neared the den, looking forward to the space. It wasn't as quiet as her family's, Uncle Gloz tended to snore, but she would live.

Kowab'akmar and Ebio'Femi:
Maybe in the early morning, Ebro? Eb.. omething.. she would take him to Luci wouldn't she? Not wanting to intrude, he slowly made his way over, Ebio had learned to live with his snoring and sometimes she would just stay up, though with a hard days work she would just stay up and watch him, when she heard an echo of soft footsteps full of sand, she lifted her head over the massive male beside her. A softness came over her as she nodded in acceptance. Lifting her body slowly and carefully before making her way slowly towards him. "Yes dear.." Towering over him. "Luci..." Looking like he had just traveled from somewhere far far away. "She isn't here tonight..." Looking like he was defeated.. "Here maybe I can take you to her." Lifting his chin. "If you don't mind a walk with an older lady.." "I don't mind." He huffed and jumpd out of the den. "Stay close to me.." Her voice soft and tender as she slipped in front of him as he hid between her legs in hiding..

Lucia:
She yawned again as she walked to the den and stopped when she saw her aunt standing up. She didn't think Ebio would be awake at this hour. No one was. Not even her uncle, if the chuffing sound he made every once in a while was an indicator.

"Auntie? Is it okay if I sleep with you and Uncle to-" she had glanced down then and her eyes widened. She blinked a bit, sat down and rubbed at one eye, trying to figure out if she was still half-asleep. She could have sworn she saw Kowab there. And when she looked up, he was still there.

"Kowab?"

Kowab'akmar and Ebio'Femi:
When she stepped down, her long legs made it easier for him not to be hidden, nope, wide view as she touched the sand and stepped down. To hear Luci's voice, a smile jumped started her as she shook her head. "Shuu~ Your uncle is sleeping.." Her voice quieted.. "So your name is Kowab..." Nodding as she looked at him then lifted her back leg so he could run from underneth her to Luci, but he only made it half way before his dark smile brewed at the edges of his maw. "Luci.." The older her got, the darker his voice got. "Ah.." He didn't even know where to start.. But Ebio merely stepped up and sat on one of the solid yet half broken step of the ruin she stayed in. "Don't be too long..."

Lucia:
Well, if he wasn't going to close the gap between them, Luci decided that she would. She didn't run though, it was too late at night for that. But she did smile as she walked up to Kowab and didn't stop until she nuzzled her head under his chin in greeting.

"Hi Kowab... What are you doing here?" she asked as she pulled away to face him, her confusion as evident on her face as it was in her voice. She tried to be very quiet, though, she didn't want to wake her uncle up.

Kowab'akmar and Ebio'Femi:
When she nuzzled in to him his heart dropped in to his throat and it was all sorts of tied up. Pulling back and sitting down promptly. Looking uneasily grumpy. Ears back as he sighed a little, the most he could get out since he saw her really- other than uttering her name so softly. "Wanted to.." He thought about it. "Visit." Shrugging as he looked away, trying to not lock on to those eyes. He could hear Kohaku's words and how he decribed her in his head and it sorta ailed.. Ebio seemed not too particularly nosey, not like she usually was only because she had met Kowab once before. That quiet- grumpy ball of fur felt a lot like Gloz had been.. As she turned her head towards the den.. Seeing him made her smile and she still held that brightness since the marriage. A sucker for romance and in these cubs she could see something.. feel it.

Lucia:
"Oh, that's nice. I..." Luci kind of trailed off for a moment, looking down with a shy little smile. It felt weird to have her aunt watching, but if she was anything, she was honest.
"I actually hoped you would come visit. I did want to see you again," she finished, looking up to turn that smile on him, her ears perked forward in a happy manner. She really had wanted to see him again. Especially without Kohaku around. She liked both boys very much, but she wanted to know if Kowab acted so tough and grumpy when Kohaku was around, because Kohaku was around. She wanted to know what Kowab was like when he didn't have to fulfill a role or live up to someone's expectations.

She looked up to her aunt, then back to Kowab. She had been tired coming here, but seeing her other... friend had certainly woken her up. Her smile grew slightly more amused.
"I just didn't think it'd be at this kind of time."

Kowab'akmar:
"I'm sorry..?" He couldn't help but feel awkward about being here but he traveled and little did she know how long it could take from the ocean to the desert. Ears went up to her words, and faced her almost devotedly. It was an odd aspect like as if you caught a cub doing something wrong. "I-" But then saw Luci's eyes revert behind him, surely that lady was still there. A thought passed his mind before he charged at Luci and slinked his head down and quickly lifted her on to his back. Then turned around almost rapidly to Ebio. He gave a nod, and in turn- without words spoke something that she understood very well as he started to trot and when he felt like someone else was coming he quickly dodged out of the way and trailed down a hill from where Ebio's den was.. Sliding as sand rushed up and around his paws, knowing full well that Luci wouldn't let herself fall now would she?

Lucia:
"Eek! Kowab, what are you-?" Luci squeeked when she was suddenly on his back, her paws wrapping quickly around his neck for lack of anything else to hold on to. Goodness, he was strong. She wasn't a little lioness, smaller than him, but not by a really noticeable amount and she always thought she was... bigger than her sisters.
But he was intent on taking her away from her aunt and uncle's den and her aunt didn't seem too distressed about it. So after her moment of surprise, Luci gave in and just held on, tilting her head so that her ear rested against his head.

She considered saying that she could walk on her own. But would that annoy him? Would he drop her if she said it. She decided to keep her mouth shut as he took her wherever he was heading.

Glozelle:
Silent paws moved across the den floor, down the steps until a solid mass pressed against Ebio's back. A muzzle scared by battle and abuse nuzzled her ear with surprising tenderness for a lion so large and rough.
"Someone should really keep an eye on those two, Ebio. We shouldn't just let them run off," he whispered, eyes closed as he reveled in the scent of his mate. He sighed and moved to nuzzle at her neck.

"What do you think of the cub?"

Ebio'Femi:
She watched and noted where they were going and just watched as they left. Something made her yearn, but she was promptly greeted with a nuzzle that seemed to surprise her in the most subtle way. A soft purr emitted out of her as she leaned in to him, without having to look at him, she knew whom exactly was behind her after all. Why fear? Lifting her chin when he moved to her neck, adoring him in the most tender way possible. "You worry too much.. He has come before." Her voice softened.. Closing her eyes as she remembered when he was on edge about everything he said, every step he took. She knew every cub there was in this pride, and never saw him- and immediately he was taken back by her forwardness.

"He reminds me of someone..." inclining her head back as she tossed her head towards him to meet his eyes. "I'd be the first one to be a chaprone, you know but I think.. I think maybe we should give them some space.. we can check on them later my love.." Still surprisingly warm when she uttered those words of adoration.

Kowab'akmar:
When she wrapped herself around him, somehow he felt more empowered and with the longing of seeing her- he wouldn't want it ruined by adults that just didn't understand. ( Or so he thought ). Following the path down before he lowered himself upon the sand, looking back with a soft growl before he looked over his shoulder. "We're clear here.. " He knew because this was generally where Gloz protolled so close to Ebio's den, and Ebio of course told him this was much more safer ground if he didn't want to get caught... Oh that Lady was a suffercating one. "There should be a small ruin somewhere here.." Looking around but staying stationary to where they landed.. Always so quick to be on the next subject and kinda seemed almost ignorant of her existance for the moment.

Glozelle:
Gloz sighed and nodded his head.
"I wonder who you might be thinking of," he replied, but there was a knowing tone in his voice. He didn't make general for nothing, after all. He noticed how the young male was as stubborn and standoffish as he was. But he couldn't quiet understand why.

"I'm not so sure I agree. They're still young... But the pridelands are safe..." he sighed again and pressed his face into her fur.
"Ah, my heart, I can't be in opposition to you," he added after a moment. He'd taken to calling her that of late, for in the back of his mind his heart only truly existed because of her. Yes, he cared for Ela, but it wasn't until he had come to terms with his feelings for Ebio that he felt he actually had a heart.

Lucia:
Luci slid off his back when he stopped, raising a paw to brush her mane from her face.
"You're really strong, Kowab," she said before she could stop herself. She did her best not to act embarrassed over saying it. She looked around to distracter herself, trying to remember the area. She wasn't sure what ruin he was talking about, but if it was small they should be extra careful. The smaller ones could be that way because they were crumbling and she didn't want to be trapped, even if it was with a friend.

"I'm not sure about a ruin... But a lot of the pridelands look the same at night."

Ebio'Femi:
A chuckle came from her, oh Gloz, she could only think. He knew her thoughts before she even thought them sometimes. Knowing full well what she was talking about. "Truth. though if it were you, would you have spoke to me if everyone was around.. looking over your shoulder and judging you when you came here. He is.. a good kid..I can feel it.. The look in his eyes.." Almost went on rambling as if caught off guard and looked in to her mate's eyes. Taking putting a paw to the step above her as she leaned her back up and rubbed the back of her neck in to him. "Being too strict with them will only make them want to push us away when they really need us..." Her voice went quiet.. sometimes she would think.. if she had cubs. She would show them just that, to trust.. But after some time she gave up on the idea of having their own. Which was another sore subject for the 'lady'.

Kowab'akmar:
"Everything and everyone is-" That curling pull on his heart to do the right thing verses the wrong. As if he was doing it already, the wrong side of things and walking that thin line, but shook himself out of it as he circled around her.. Looking about for safety before coming up to her putting his forehead against her shoulder. "I have to be." To her prior question.. But inwardly added if he had to keep the challenge up with Kohaku, then he had to be as strong if not stronger than him and it made his nights more difficult to endure with training when he was punished for trying to escape. "Hmph. Lady- I'll get her..." As he rubbed his forehead in to her shoulder more. "I hated it...." After a moment of silence...

Glozelle:
Gloz felt the pain in his mate when she spoke of the youths. He had come to realize being with her that there was nothing he could deny her, nothing that wouldn't injure her. And yet there were some things he had yet to be able to give her.
"He wants to be, but I wonder if he wants to be too many things at once..." Gloz replied, trying to keep his thoughts on the cubs and not on what was missing in his beloved's life.

"I'll try to stay back... She's a strong girl, like her father," he added with a sigh and leaned into her touch.
"Go back to sleep, Ebio. I'll keep an eye out for them."

Lucia:
Luci tried to watch him as he circled her, but before she could his face was pressed into her shoulder. She tilted her head slightly so that she could touch his, not wanting to move for fear that he would pull away. He was being nice again, in part confirming her suspicions.
That he had to be strong... she wondered why. Yes he had to be strong to survive in the roguelands, but they were all still young. The training that she had seen Kohaku go through... it had seemed a bit much to her. But maybe their ways were different, how could she understand? They were from different worlds.

"What did you hate?" she asked softly, trying to understand what he was talking about. She hoped he wasn't talking about her aunt. She didn't think there was anyone in the world who could hate someone as good-natured as Ebio.

Ebio'Femi:
"So you caught on that too.. hm" She could only think that a general would do as such. Why, she had only the slightest clue on feelings they could pick up on... She liked to imagen what they picked up on, and from the looks of it- he also picked up on her own feelings towards the sore subject that was beckoning at the door of her maw. But instead, lifted her body simply and leaned in to him with a soft lick across his cheek and rubbing her forehead against his. "Try not to do anything I wouldn't." Pawing at him softly at the shoulder with a soft bounded smile before jumping over him with grace and lingered back in to the den.. Curling up upon the ground and looking towards him.. Before giving a soft unwanting yawn.

Kowab'akmar:
"Hate it." He repeated... before rubbing against her shoulder and pulled back to look at her face. Coming within almost a breath away. "Not seeing you." Tilting his head then gruffly looking away. "Along with Kohaku always getting to see you hearing stories about you... even Utsuki has seen you more than me!" Though quiet, one could hear the strain of anger in his voice. "I hate my family. Dad always has to pull me back- mom never lets me go anywhere and damnit- stupid Haku..." He growled as his face puffed up. "I wanna come here all the time.. Or. Why don't you ever come see me- or do you like HAKU~ Better." Looking straight in to her eyes. "You don't know what Ive even been through to get here- and even just to see you.. Last time I found that LADY~ and gawd was she annoying~" Sticking out his tongue almost digustingly at her fluffiness to love everyone she meets.

Glozelle:
Gloz turned to watch her leave him with a soft smile he reserved for her alone. Gods, how had he been so fortunate? Only a few things could make what he had here in this sandy land any better.
A part of him wanted to stand and follow her into the den, to lie next to her and pull her close until they both fell asleep. But that would have to wait until Luci came back.

He hoped that would be sooner rather than later.

Lucia:
Luci's ears fell down and she lifted a paw, set it back into the sand, repeated the process, and finally decided what she wanted to do. The paw came up fully the third time, touching his cheek briefly before setting it back down. She worried she hadn't done the right thing, she always wondered about her actions.

"I... I missed you, too. It was nice getting to see Kohaku and to meet his brother, but I wanted to see you, too," she explained, nodding her head a bit. She could tell he was angry, but it sounded like it was focused on Kohaku more than anything. She was a little taken aback that he would suggest she liked Kohaku more. Well, she... she didn't like any of them more... At least she didn't think so... She did want to spend more time with Kowab, but that was because she was curious. Kohaku was almost an open book. And Suki was just adorable, but terrifying in the frailty she had seen. But Kowab... she couldn't quite figure him out, and that intrigued her. She wanted to understand him. And maybe even show him that he didn't have to be the bad guy.

She sighed and shook her head.
"I can't leave the pridelands, not without an escort and my dad and uncle are too busy to go too far for too long. Maybe I can ask my cousin sometime, she might take me to see you." She paused there, smiling and shaking her head.
"Auntie Ebio's not too bad. She just wants to do what's best for everybody she meets, even if they don't want it. It's how she an' my uncle fell in love."

Kowab'akmar:
"That's stupid." He growled. "Same with my family too- and we're in the roguelands~! You'd think they'd let me go in to a safe pride but noooo~" Seemingly more upset about it than he let on to be. When she touched his cheek- he couldn't help but look at her with the eyes that Ebio had come to see.. That cub within him yelling but muffled by his tough act. "Love is for softies." He spat- much like a boy would at his age. "You better not like him better." But was tore when he even spoke the words. As if Kohaku was better- of course he was! That's why he had to challenge him.. the constant bickering! "I just don't like that they get to see you more than me- and that I can't ever come see you and you never come see me~ point blank." Trying to explain himself in a very out there way.

"Oh ~ You mean that Lady~ yea you must have lost something up here." Poking her forehead with a digit. "if you think she ISN"T annoying~! Too happy~ Way too happy~" Shaking his head. "Well I can't handle her sometimes. She is toooooo much." Growling lightly then sighing heavily. "I didn't come here to talk to you." Eyeing her finally. "I just...wanted to see you. So I'll just be going then...I overstayed already."

Lucia:
Luci's ears fell when he said love was for softies. She wanted to argue, but she had to wonder what was the point. She knew how much her father loved her mother, how much her uncle loved her aunt and both males were strong and tough. They had braved beatings near death and the desert to get to this place, both were tough guardians bent on protecting the pride they had come to call home. How could males who loved their mates as much as they did and yet were as strong as they were ever be called softies for falling in love?

"I don't like Kohaku better," she said again, just to make sure that he got it. She would ask Zhen if the older female could take her out to see her friends. It might be easier to get her to take her far out than her papa or uncle. They were so overprotective sometimes.

"She can get really nosey... But you get used to it after a while." Her posture had relaxed a bit by then, but when he said that he'd only come to see her and that he'd intended to leave, her ears fell again.
"You really have to go?" It was a stupid question made more stupid because of the disappointment in her voice. She knew he shouldn't be here at this time of the night. No doubt he'd snuck out to do it, he could get in trouble if his parents found out. She knew she would be if she were in his paws and got caught. But... he didn't have to make it sound like talking with her wasn't important.

Still, she nodded and dipped her head a bit.
"I sorry you can't stay longer. I'll come see you soon, if I can."

Kowab'akmar:
The second time she said it was when he really got the picture, and make him do a double take to see the seriousness he had gotten in to her. For a moment he stared at her, something was there but neither he nor her would ever know the extent it would lead him to.. Could one know about love, at such a young age? Was that what he was feeling? No- no he wasn't a softie. They were friends.. and she was just his friend. He had to share everything already and surely he didn't like the idea of sharing her too...Especially with Haku..they were best bros but ... things just got more and more heated between them.. The challenges were getting more personal. "Yea- if I don't get back by sun up- mom will know I left." His voice got softer.. "I don't like anyone better..." Directing it towards her. Then took her paw and pointed upward.

"Look how about this- when the sun goes down 5 times and when one of those bright things flies across the sky... meet me here. Promise."

Lucia:
Luci wished he didn't have to go, that he could stay here and one of the adults could take him back in the morning. She would worry about him, going home in the dark on his own. She didn't know how far he had to go. He was so much stronger than she was. She'd be afraid to do what he seemed to without being bothered by it. How he was so brave, she'd never know. She would aspire to it, though, that was certain. She wanted to be brave like he was. Maybe not as reckless, but brave.

She felt her skin flush under her fur when he said he didn't like anyone better. Did that mean she was his best friend? No, surely Kohaku was. Sure, they fought, but that was just what boys did. But the thought that he liked her best made her brighten and fill in part with pride.
And then he grabbed her paw and pointed upwards.

"Okay, I'll meet you here. I promise."

Kowab'akmar:
"I hate that we live so far.. I'm where the ocean meets the grass. But here, this can be our place .. don't ever bring anyone else here. Where the darkness touches, here- its ours and when the moon is full. Got it." Before looking at her with a softness.. He knew that looming over them was morning, and all this time looking for her was disappearing right before him. Their time was cut short before he headbutted her. "Don't forget me." Slowly taking a step back, and lifting his head up.. the full moon would light his way.. His eyes were speaking out to her- of a goodbye.. and it ached so bad that he would never say it. Ever. Turning and giving a heaving jump as he was about to spring off, he turned to see Glozelle.. 'I hate-' He thought..

Lucia:
Luci nodded slowly.
"Our place..." she repeated, her voice a little soft. That definitely made the place special to her. She wouldn't do anything to taint the special area. He had paused when he turned to leave, but she hadn't noticed why. She almost thought he was going to say something else, maybe try to say goodbye this time. But... But she didn't want him to say goodbye. It seemed like such a finite thing, cut in stone. If he said goodbye, it would just make his plea, to not forget him, sound so much like he wouldn't be coming back.

So while he was momentarily distracted by whatever it was, she moved to Kowab quickly and gave him a quick little lick on the cheek. Her own were flushed beneath her fur.
"I'll see you soon," she said, a farewell and yet a promise that she would see him again.

Kowab'akmar:
He tried to grasp the eyes of the male, whom seemed to know of his plans already. Even just a moment's hesitation before he was caught by surprise by the most devastating blow that any attacker could do.. A kiss which made his tempature rise in his face and his heart drop in to his throat. "Ah.." He didn't quite know what to do except lean in to her. Rubbing his muzzle in to her face and cheek.. Taking in her scent. "Yea..." His voice was hardly able to bring that much out.. Taking a side step, and his only image of her was burned in once more before he ran off in to the sandy hills. The moon haunting his very wake.

Glozelle:
Gloz frowned at his niece, but then he was almost always frowning. Or he had that impasive line on his face that no one could really read. Ela and Ebio, maybe, but certainly not Luci. He recalled the conversation that he had with Kohaku's mother, Gin was her name? Yes, Gin. She had been concerned about her son's affections towards Luci. At first he hadn't seen a problem with it. Luci was a kind little lioness and the last thing she would want to do is hurt her friend's feelings.

But now he was starting to wonder if the lioness hadn't been worried for naught. He had watched her with Kohaku and his little brother. She had been friendly with them, eager to see them and to play, cuddling the smaller of the males, making the boys laugh. That was not how she acted with Kowab. She was shyer, more subdued, more affectionate in her gestures. She trusted the boy.
He didn't like it.

It wasn't because he didn't like the boy. He barely knew Kowab. What bothered him was that he knew that the two males were friends, Kowab and Kohaku. At least, that's what he had gained from his niece's speculations. And he had seen Kohaku's affections. Kowab he could read like a book. The cub was too damned like he was. They were young and yet he found himself wondering if they had a concept of the affections they seemed to have for one another.
What bothered him most was that someday, Luci might come between the boys. And when that day came, he knew she'd have to make a choice. And it could hurt her.

Lucia:
Luci watched as her friend ran away, the feel of his cheek rubbing against her still faint on her cheek. She finally looked up when Kowab faded from sight, only to find her uncle towering over her.
"It's past your bedtime," she heard him mutter as her eyes started to flutter closed. She felt him gently pick her up by the scruff. She was asleep before he got them back to the den.

Ebio'Femi:
"Asleep is she..." Her voice chimed ever so softly.. LIfting her head up with a softness as to hear from them.. the voice of her mate. Ideally looking at the body he held dangling from his maw. She lifted herself slowly and softly took her niece in maw and put her to her bed.. in their den. "My... she is popular.." Her voice low..

Glozelle:
"I don't like it," Gloz huffed quietly as Ebio took Luci and laid the cub down in the den. He curled around his mate, setting his mw near her ear.
"I worry this might someday lead to a confrontation between the boys. One that could hurt Luci," he added with a tired sigh. He worried about being a father someday, if this was what it came with.

Ebio'Femi:
Setting herself in to a sitting position before she felt the massive worth come around her which she leaned in to with a second thought. "As it should be expected..." Nodding. "I had a feeling you would worry over such a thing. Remember, you can't protect her from everything." Shaking her head. "And we can't choose the path neither." Turning to him soft a soft rub against his face, softly licking it.

Glozelle:
Gloz sighed.
"I know I can't. Besides, I'm only her uncle, at best." He was once more caught between a rock and a hard place. He should tell Caspian about all of this. The playdates were not a bad thing. But now... they were questionable. And it was Caspian's place to deal with them, not his. He wouldn't insult his brother like that.
He sighed and nuzzled her tenderly.

"I worry this is what being a father is like. Will we face these problems with our cubs?"

Ebio'Femi:
A purr erupted from her as she nodded. He was far too fatherly with her, but a good trait to have non the less.. More than she could have asked. Shaking her head with a very soft sigh. "I was pondering that myself but I believe that, although we are bot her uncle and aunt I would like to retain this place as a santuary.. Inside these doors all your secrets are safe here.." Shrugging as she looked at Luci from over her shoulder. "Hm?" Looking back at him with surprise, greeting his tender nuzzle with her own. "Its not for me to say.. But all that worrying, I know we will face a lot of that." Nodding confidently. "It comes with the title.. of being a father yea know." Sticking out her tongue playfully before rubbing her nose under his chin. But deep down her heart was hurting even if it was a flutter of the subject.

Would she ever bare his offspring?

Lifting a paw and softly petted in to his mane. "It adds to the excitement of having children of our own. Like~" Looking up. "Will they be stubborn like their father? Have my markings? Give us headaches~"

Glozelle:
