 Chirping birds and soft light marked the beginning of a new day. Inside an old burrow that was enlarged over time, blue eyes slowly blinked as the vixen woke up. Yawning and stretching, the purple and yellow female stood up and padded out of her dwelling. She blinked again at the transition from darkness to light. When she could see efficiently to where she would not run into anything or anyone, Fleur made her way a short distance to the river, taking a drink to get rid of morning breath and the dryness of her mouth.
Having taken care of that and other business, Fleur sat down on the river bank, listening to the other animals waking up and moving around. Birds calling to one another. Small fish jumping in and out of water. A squirrel chattered overhead. Fleur smiled as she realized one thing she was not hearing. Her very hyperactive friend CeeCee. For some reason CeeCee and Fleur had been hanging around together a lot. Most mornings Fleur would wake to CeeCee's laughing about something. Today it was absolutely free of laughter. Perhaps CeeCee was off doing something else and that Fleur could have a day free of her. "A perfect morning indeed."

 Kol hummed quietly to himself as he followed the flow of a river he happened across last night. There was no real purpose in his movement, no real sense of urgency or destination. He just thought it would be interesting to follow the river and see where it took him.
Recently Kol had been around the human city and suburbs with his friend, Reisa. Well actually she'd been his girlfriend, but then without real warning she'd vanished. Not dead vanished or anything like that, he'd gotten word from one of her sisters. Apparently she was just gone somewhere, and there was no telling if or when she'd be back.
Kol was a bit bummed, but he waited. And waited. And waited. Eventually he gave up. He could have stayed around the city, but nearly all the girls there were taken or were Reisa's sisters. They were a lot of similar-looking girls, and Kol couldn't bring himself to date any others in that family line.
So here he was, back in a forest for the first time since he'd left his home by the sea where the unofficial tribe of Caledonia lay. He'd been contemplating returning to visit his parents, but so far hadn't made a conscious decision on the matter.

Now....What was Fleur going to do today? She lifted her face to the sun and closed her eyes as she thought about it. Her place could use a little cleaning she supposed. Clear out some of the webs that were forming in there. Fleur had nothing against little creatures sharing her hole. They needed a place to live as well. When there started to be so many though, that was when she started cleaning them out. She could just continue sitting here, enjoying the peace and quiet. She did not get much of that. With CeeCee always around it was never dull or quiet.
CeeCee...what would she do with all this free time? Run around more than likely. Try to climb stuff. Go swimming...Actually, swimming didn't seem that bad right now. Fleur looked around to make sure CeeCee wasn't here. If CeeCee ever saw what Fleur was planning to do, Fleur would never be able to tell CeeCee she wasn't in the mood again. Hearing nothing, Fleur let out a 'whoop' and jumped into the water. She swam under for a bit before breaking through the crystal clear surface laughing.

Kol's ears pricked forward in the direction of further downstream. He'd thought he heard a noise, a kind of shout and a splash. Well he was heading in that direction anyway so he'd soon find out, but hopefully it wasn't anything hostile. That would be his luck.
He finally got to about where the source of the noise was, and scanned the river, sniffing at the air. Already from some of the scents he had an idea of what he'd heard, and as if to confirm his suspcsions something of yellow and pink-ish purple cut through the water in his line of vision. Aaahh, a vixen.
Kol considered his options. He wasn't in clear sight right now, he could just leave without disturbing the lady. He also had to wonder if he was in the mood for company. Certainly he wasn't just a light flirt like some might have thought him, so Reisa's disappearance had hit kinda hard. But there was nothing about this female to remind him of her off the bat, so perhaps it would be alright?
Kol had taken a few steps forward, still without a clear decision of what he wanted to do.

Still laughing, Fleur dove again; but this time went over to the bank to dry off when she surfaced. "Going to have to do that more often." So much fun. Perhaps next time she was invited to play in the water she would say yes. Perhaps she would try to do more entertaining and fun activities as well. A possiblity certainly.
She froze as she heard something approach. Fleur looked around, scanning the area for possible danger but did not see anyone. "Hello? Is anyone there?" She looked around again. The sound wasn't that of a smaller animal aproaching. Usually such creatures stayed away from Fleur for fear of being eaten. A larger creature meant something that could hurt Fleur. Of course, by calling out like she did, Fleur might have alerted said danger to her whereabouts. Ah well. Too late now to take it back.
Her gaze drifted along the bank, not staying on anything to long. She still saw no-wait. Further down. Was that...? Fleur slowly made her way towards the shape of what she thought was an animal. "Hello?"

Oops, looks like he got found out. Ah well, too late to do anything about it now. Kol stepped forward, smiling sheepishly. "Ah, hello there. I apologize for disturbing you. I was walking in this direction and heard a sound and came to investigate. I was deciding whether to show myself or take a detour before you spotted me."
He made sure to stop at a distance far enough that the strange female wouldn't feel threatened by his presence, and offered her a disarming smile. "My name's Eshkol, but everyone calls me Kol. You looked like you were having fun, is the water pleasant today?"

Fleur nodded her head slightly. "It is nice to meet you Kol. I'm Fleur. Don't worry about if you disturbed me or not. It is always nice to have company." She looked at the water with a small smile on her face. "The water is always pleasant. And it is such a nice day for a walk or a swim." At least for Fleur. If it was warm or cold, it didn't matter to her. It was what it was. She wasn't picky.
She grimaced as she realized that thanks to her spur of the moment swim made her arm warmers all wet. Now walking in those would be unpleasant. At least none of her jewlery fell off. She looked at Kol, humor in her eyes. "Am I really that scary to where you weren't sure to approach me or not?"

Kol grinned broadly, encouraged by Fleur's positive responses. "Not scary," he said, "but sometimes others take it badly when you just pop up out of nowhere on them. I didn't want to startle you and entice a bad reaction when you seemed so happy already."
He glanced down at Fleur's legs in response to her grimance, and he smiled in a knowing way. "Those are going to be uncomfortable until they dry. Maybe you should take them off and hang them somewhere, so the water can fall out and the wind dries them faster. It'll also give your legs a chance to dry out quicker than they would with those things on."
Kol didn't have any clothes himself of course, but he did know a couple foxes who did and knew that with the simple stuff they prefered taking it off to dry rather than walk around all day wet and chafing.

Fleur sighed. "I suppose you are right. Doing that would be better than being sore and having to wash them when they get dirty from walking around wet." She took a moment to work the armwarmers off. A sigh of relief escaped from her mouth as the wind blew against her bare legs. Taking the pieces of clothing in her mouth, she walked over to a branch that was on her way back to her place and laid them over it. Pawing until they were laying where they would not fall, Fleur looked at Kol.
"Do you do that to many other foxes? Is that how you know others take it badly?" She shrugged. "If I had a bad reaction I had a bad reaction. Everyone has those at some point. Always when one doesn't expect something to happen or if something doesn't go their way. Way of life."

"I've startled others once or twice before," Kol agreed with Fleur's guess. "You don't seem to be having a bad reaction though. Besides, to my way of thinking, if you were going to have a bad reaction and I used caution to make sure you didn't spot me then you wouldn't have had a bad reaction and I wouldn't have had to sit through one." Kol shrugged his shoulders lightly. "I'm a pretty mellow guy, if negative stuff is inevitable I do my best to prevent as many outbreaks of it as possible."

Fleur's head ached as she tried to follow Kol's logic about bad reactions. She laughed. "Very true as well. But since we have already met and cannot go back and do it all over the point is moot no?" She sat and studied the male. "So you are a peacekeeper? How often are you around negative feelings and problems?" What was Fleur? A carer certainly. She always liked being around kits. She could see herself watching over them to keep them safe and teaching them. And Fleur did try to keep CeeCee in check. But adult foxes and their problems? Fleur had no idea what to do in that situation.

Kol thought about it. "Peacekeeper, huh? Well yes and no. I keep the peace when it comes to myself, and I try not to get involved in the quarrels of others. Most of the time it just ends in both sides you're trying to help turning on you," he said, rolling his eyes then smiling at Fleur.
"Anyway," he added, chuckling, "I tend to be a flirt most times. Flirts aren't always the best of peacekeepers."

Fleur blinked. Apparently Kol had tried to be the peacekeeper to others many a time. He seemed to be talking from experience about people turning on him. She laughed. "Especially if you end up flirting with the mate of a very jealous fox hm?"
At the mention of flirts, Fleur thought of another male fox that flirted, Jullian. Though, his style of flirting was different than Kol's. Kol hadn't flat out started calling her pretty names or making her think he had a silver tongue. "Of course, since you seem to have a good read on foxes you can pick out the jealous ones can't you?"

Kol chuckled. "Well so far I've never flirted with a mated female so far, and I aim to keep it that way. Besides I don't make actual moves on them so much as just...compliment. Like...," Kol looked Fleur over real quick. "For example how those flower patterns you have are quite lovely and tie together your base colors in an amazing way."

Fleur rolled her eyes. "Foxes actually fall for 'compliments'?" How shallow. Or else those foxes had very low self-esteem that they'd go out with anyone who made them feel better about themselves. "But I thank you for the compliment all the same." She smiled at Kol. "And what would you do if you had flirted with a mated female and her mate found out? Try to smooth talk your way out of a fight?"
