Adagio lay on the ground, her breathing slow and heavy. She bled from countless cuts and gashes all over her body. Her normally pristine mane was matted and sticky and her wings were even worse. Sections of them were practically plucked clean and her feathers were littered all over the forest floor. The skinwalker that had mauled her had left her for dead and driven off her cousin. There was no one, and she was slowly bleeding to death.
Every once in a while she'd kick or mutter feebly, but her eyes were shut and she was lost deep within herself. In her mind she could hear the most beautiful music in the world playing. She wanted to sing along with it but could not find her voice. She had lost herself in the darkness until there was nothing left. Without intervention she'd die and she'd die shortly. Though there was music in her mind, the forest around her was devastatingly quiet, as if no animal dared to make a sound after what had occurred there.

The silence of the forest was broken by hoofbeats and another, softer sound. Where those bells that could be heard in the distance? It seemed so. The soft chimes and jingling grew closer and closer to the injured mare. A moment later, there was warm air spilling over her.
A gentle voice sounded near her, "Hello señorita. You seem to be in a bit of a bind. Never fear, my gato Amigo and I shall help you. My name is Felinus. I'll heal you as best I can. Comprendes?"
Indeed there was a cat with him and the creature curled up, purring gently against the mare's chest. Felinus set about his task, healing the worst of the wounds first as best as he could.

As Adagio's wounds healed her breathing became more steady. She stayed mostly unconscious throughout the healing. Occasionally she'd whimper and stir but then fall back into still silence. Inside her mind the music was fading, growing more distant. As the music faded the pain came back. Awareness of her broken body crept back into her with each touch of the stallion's horn. It grew from a hazy thought to a blistering nightmare, and then she suddenly woke up.
With a gasp her eyes shot open. Immediately she began breathing quickly and fearfully. The last thing she could remember was the terrifying eyes of Samsara and her own blood dripping from her mouth. Her eyes shot to the stallion that stood above her. "Help me! Skinwalker! Help!" she squeaked in pain and terror. Frantic tears slid down her cheeks and she looked around wildly. She didn't know how long she had been unconscious for or where Shrivatsa was. For all she knew, Shrivatsa was dead and herself near dying too.
"Please," she whimpered. "Help..."

Felinus took an involuntary step back at the sudden outburst as Amigo yowled indignantly and leaped on to the stallions back. Fur standing on end, the tom shot into his friend's mane to hide.
"Calm yourself miss. You will rip open your wounds otherwise. There is no one but Amigo and I here. Tranquila por favor. It is all right. You are safe." The stallion's voice was soft and calm, endeavoring to help allay the stranger's fear of attack.
"You say a Skinwalker attacked you? Dios! No wonder you are in such bad shape. Come come. Lay still so old Felinus can finish healing you señorita. It will be alright. We will not harm you." He was indicating Amigo as well as himself as the cat was now peering owlishly from within the confines of alicorn's long mane.

With his soothing words Adagio grew less agitated but she was still frightened and worried for her cousin. She sat up a little and moved to draw her legs in closer to her but winced and gasped when she did. She stared in shock at the crisscrossing scratches that covered her. She had never been badly hurt before and her mind almost couldn't believe she was now. And her wings... her beautiful wings... She choked back tears when she saw the places where her wings were ripped bare down to the skin.
"Th-thank you..." she said through ragged breaths. "She came and..." Her eyes rolled in horror as she took in all the blood splattered on the ground around her. That was her blood.
"Am I g-going to be all right?" she squeaked. Maybe she was injured too much for a unicorn to heal. She wanted to be able to run and fly again. She wanted to feel as healthy and good as she had that morning. She wanted her parents. She gave a small whimpering hiccup and looked pleadingly up at the stallion.

"I will do my best to help you chiquitita. You must be calm though." Sensing he could help, Amigo emerged again, hopped down, and padded over to Adagio and mewed his hello. The tom tilted his head to the right and regarded the injured mare curiously.
Felinus bit his lower lip in thought. This was going to take more than what he alone could do. "Señorita, is there an angeni you know nearby or perhaps in your herd? I'm sure they can heal you further if I can do enough myself." He was working on her wings now..,..or trying to at least. He watched the skin close around them, frowning when they closed almost completely, but not quite.
"We really need to fin either a full unicorn or an angeni....I'm sure one could help... I've done my best though. You need some food though so you can safely move since you lost quite a bit of blood..." He looked around, "I am unfamiliar with this place. Are there any fruit trees nearby?"

The meowing cat caught her attention. She blinked tears from her eyes and focused on the fluffy gray creature. It didn't look like a wild animal. It looked more like the pets that some of the humans kept. It was strange seeing one with another soquili and that was enough distraction to help her think. Fruit trees. The stallion wanted fruit trees. "There are..." Her breath caught and she started over. "There are some apple trees not too far from here. I th-think they have fruit." She gestured with her snout in the direction they were.
She tried not to look at the blood but it was impossible not to when it was splattered all over her. She began to tremble but forced herself to look away from it. "Please... don't leave me here alone," she asked him. "I'm afraid that she'll come back." She looked around fearfully. Samsara could be lurking as a panther in any of the low-lying bushes, waiting to strike.

The alicorn stallion frowned slightly as he tried to figure out this puzzle. How could he get the mare food without leaving her? Amigo wasn't big enough to retrieve more than one apple at a time. With a sigh he eyed Adagio and asked, "Princesa , do you think you can stand up long enough for this one to help you to the apple tree?" Amigo was carefully rubbing himself against the inured mare to help comfort her.

Adagio gave her legs an uncertain look. They didn't look twisted in unnatural ways and she didn't think they hurt enough to be broken. She experimentally flexed one at a time until she was sure that all of them could still move. She sniffled intermittently throughout this process. Adagio was still lightheaded enough that she wasn't sure she wanted to try standing, but the blood covered foliage around her changed her mind. Anything would be better than staying in this place for any longer.
"I'll try to walk..." She stood up slowly and carefully. She felt like a newborn filly again with how wobbly she was. She took a few steps. When she didn't fall, she had the confidence to walk a little more normally. "You said there's an apple tree around here?" she asked weakly.

Felinus helped Adagio walk by letting her lean against him, then he moved when she did. It was a bit awkward, but the rhythm got smoother over time/ Amigo resumed his spot on top of his stallion for while, but gradually as they walked the tom made his way gingerly over to the back of their female companion. He would gently clean any wound near him as he rested on her back. His purr rumbled in his chest and most likely caused a tickling sensation wherever he lay as he did. It was rather rare for the tom to take to anyone so quickly. Why it had taken weeks for the two-legger he stayed with to get the tom to come out and eat the fish she had often left for him without taking it back into the safety of Felinus' mane. Adagio must've been very special for the tom to take to her so easily.
"I hope it is not too far. You should not be on your feet too long until after eating."

((Roni fail! I totally forgot that she was the one who was supposed to know where they were going in my last post. XD Let's call it blood loss confusion))
She gratefully accepted his support. His mane was soft when she leaned against him and his warmth felt wonderful to her aching body. Adagio didn't have much experience with unrelated stallions. If she hadn't been so worn out and frightened, she might have even felt flustered. That emotion would have to wait, though. For now, all she could do was focus on these apple trees that she kept forgetting that she knew about.
"Not too far..." she said with great thought. Why did everything have to be so hard to keep in her mind right now? The cat was now on her back and she blinked over her shoulder at it. Luckily, she remembered correctly. It wasn't far at all. Just as she felt she was really getting good at walking again the trees came into view. She had never seen any fruit that looked so delicious in her life. "There they are," she said with relief. She was still hurt and frightened, but Felinus had stopped her bleeding and given her comfort. She might not be in any way healed just yet, but it was a start.
