It was late in the afternoon, and the patchy shade from passing clouds were keeping Fefe in a relatively decent mood. It seemed everyone around her was getting uncomfortable, their apprehension growing with the continuing days, and Fefe half-wondered why their group had bothered to come to the Pridelands at all if they were going to be a bunch of namby-panbies.
Then again, her extended, determined strides were taking her towards her own source of gripe.
She recognized the lion from smell at a distance, even before her eyes had properly picked up the correct colors and form. "Idris!" A loud call ahead to stop the lioness in her tracks.
Idris could be interesting, though Fefe usually found her with her head much too far up her own hind end. Then again, who wasn't a bit of a trollop around here?
"Mmhmm, yer the woman I wanted to see. Spare a minute? Of course you can." And just like that, Fefe was casually leading Idris away from the others.

The clouds above were creating a slightly more comfortable environment than usual with the summer heat. Though it didn't seem to do much to alleviate the uneasiness of the ragtag pride, Idris was trying to find her own way to become comfortable here. Since her talk with other traveling companions, she was quietly trying to seek out what the cause of the trouble was.
Today though, she was just going to hang out by the watering hole nearby. A day to simply relax and avoid . Her trip was interrupted by the holler of her name. Her ears perked, head lifting tiredly. Who was this? Fafa? Fefe? Yes, that was it. She frowned and rolled her eyes at the female's ordering tone. It was unfortunate that she had nothing better to do. As such... She made a point of walking at her own pace, meandering with mild curiosity after the gray female silently. Fefe didn't seem to be the type to discuss the discomfort of the lions.

A quick flick of the ears, and a following scan of the eyes made the tension in Fefe's shoulder's relax, if only for a moment.
"Are you listening?" Fefe loathed having to repeat herself. Once the rude, snappy statement had gathered attention, Fefe moved onto the real reason she had decided to deal with Idris' fine attitude.
"It's more than a little obvious that you cannot stand Ruva." Her tongue drug over the inside of her teeth, in a mock act of counting them, as she formulated her next words. "Well, it's your lucky day."
Fefe was focused carefully on Idris; there was an uncertainty in the air. Could she be trusted? Perhaps more than Ruva, and that was enough. Hatred was usually enough.
"I couldn't help but notice, she's been . . . lingering. Seems right normal of Ruva to offer her tail before she's talked, if you follow, but now that we've moved onto larger territory, so to speak, I get the feeling she's the type to start using us to further her own glory." That was to say, there was backstabbing in everyone's future.
"And I need to know somin's got my back, lest she sink her pretty 'ittle teeth into my neck." Or anyone else's. Metaphorically speaking, of course.

Once they seemed to reach a fair distance from the rest of the pride, Idris felt her curiosity grow a little more. Something private? Her lilac eyes narrowed slightly. "Would I be here if I wasn't listening?" She shot back before sitting down, her tail twitching slightly. No. She was going to relax today. She wasn't going to let- Ruva?
Now her attention was fully caught. Her body tensed in anticipation. Her lucky day? Had Ruva fallen down a cliff? Or perhaps there was poetic justice in the world and she had been eaten by a crocodile. Fefe's words were a mild disappointment, but interesting none-the-less.
"Your feeling would be fairly accurate." She admited without conscience. "Ruva is more interested in her own ideas and desires than anything, or anyone, else." Her jaw tightened as memories fluttered through her mind. So much for relaxing today... "And how do you expect me to help you? I suppose you've guessed I'll agree with anyone who suspects her, but it doesn't usually go much further than that. What are you really hoping to gain?"

"Gain?" Fefe practically barked out the word.
"Hun, I don't give s**t for a wildebeast's arse about gain." This wasn't about conquest, or triumph. It was about suspicion, and making sure Ruva didn't stamp all over the nice, pleasant home that Fefe was sure she had found. Of course, Idris might not, and probably didn't, know that. "And I aint helping anyone," she added as an afterthought. "Not really."
"I can't say I know what Ruva's after, but I am thinking it's in my best interest to know. Figure, she doesn't care whose toes she steps on, so it might as well not be mine, and I don't want Zene to get caught up in it, either."
She took the moment to crack her neck and offer Idris a good scowl. "I'll sure as hell be watching her, and if yer gonna be, too, well, it seems to me like it's in both our interests to keep telling one another what we see." A bob of her head, as though considering another option. "If that don't interest, you, well, I'm sure not spending the rest of the day here by this giant puddle of water."

Idris remained still as Fefe made her point. Her eyelids drooped in a tired fashion, absorbing what was being said. "You 'ain't' helping anyone, but you want me to help you." She stated flatly, rolling her eyes up toward the sky as though in deep thought. All she was being asked to do was the last thing she wanted to do. And yet, it was a near constant practice already.
"You might not want gain other than to keep whatever it is you're worried she might take from you." She started slowly. Wanting to keep Zene safe. Watching out for a friend... Ruva was such a pain. Always causing trouble and getting her dragged into it. "Ruva's after whatever will benefit Ruva." She gave a small growl. Well, it would have come up eventually, for certain. "I suppose keeping an extra eye on her is the only right thing to do." She said, raising her paw and licking it a couple times.
If Ruva was planning to ruin their new home, Idris would watch her with or without another's help. With someone else offering to help watch though, she felt a little more confident about the situation.

"Right." The word was dismissive, slightly sassed, as though this had drug on too long. It had. "I'll take that as a yes."
Idris, it seemed, might need watching, too. Fefe wavered for a moment, scraping her tongue over her teeth before speaking again.
"Sometimes, I'm getting the feeling you're not so different from Ruva. You ever do anything just to do a good thing?" The question may as well have been rhetorical with the way Fefe seemed ready to leave. Despite the words, Fefe's tone was quiet, musing. It had not been meant to be an attack, but rather a curious observation.
Still, Idris was what Fefe would call a sort-of-ally. The one you sided with when you had to, but knew you couldn't quite trust, because the bottom line was they had their own agenda. Fefe couldn't fault her for that. She had her own, too.

With a small nod, Idris got up, ready to continue on, assuming that Fefe had done what she'd hoped to accomplish. What was she to make of this? Perhaps she should have followed this group only until these more fertile lands and parted ways then. First the general unrest, and now this. So much trouble. She just wanted to be back home, and that wasn't going to happen... And what of Fefe herself? Why trust her now?
But then, the offensive words reached her ears. She froze with one paw in the air, which only settled back to the ground very slowly. "Not so different?" She asked quietly, her voice as dark as her purple eyes now looked. "Don't you ever, ever, compare me to that witless, shameless whore." She growled, claws digging slightly at the ground. "Especially if you really do want my help watching her."
Snorting, she shook her head and turned slightly to head closer to the watering hole, dropping the dangerous tone and changing to a more mild matter-of-fact one. "Do a good thing just because? You're not watching Ruva just because. And neither am I. Everything is done for a reason, even if that reason is self-satisfaction; your so-called good." She raised her chin ever so slightly, meeting the other's gaze forwardly. "I suggest you don't mix up who I am a second time. I assure you I'm on your side, but if it happens again, I can't promise any more than that."

Fefe's ears when back with the raised paw, and her muscles coiled and tensed. The corner of her mouth curled into a snarl, and her eyes were on that paw all the way until it reached the ground.
"Can't say that helps me trust you," Fefe noted with a puff of breath out her mouth. It was the release of tension; fear.
"I'll watch Ruva, and keep you informed. Don't be gettin' yerself killed with that temper in the mean time." A second look, all the way down Idris' body, just in case a second lash might come.
"Live long and prosper, Idris." Fefe backed her way from the water's edge, until it was open, and until the sound of water did not interfere with what might be approaching footsteps. Then, she turned and headed somewhere else. Somewhere further in the public, where numbers made it safer until hunting time.

Rolling her shoulders and giving her legs a stretch to release herself. She didn't want to be on the wrong side of anyone in her new pride, aside from Ruva's, which couldn't be helped. With all four paws set firmly on the ground, she relaxed again when Fefe did.
Her tail twitched when her temper was mentioned, but nothing more. "I'll keep that in mind." She said flatly. "I'll keep in touch as well." While she hated the thought of having to look at Ruva's face, she would do it. Whether the pale female was putting the whole pride at risk or just herself, or if there was really any risk at all, Idris would watch, and see, and hear.
Her ears perked at the companionable farewell, and she almost smiled. Instead, she gave a small nod. "You as well... Fefe." She watched the lioness back away for a moment before turning and stepping into the water to cool her paws, showing that she trusted Fefe enough to not suspect attack. This was a new step, working with someone in the pride, but it was for a worthy cause. She would keep her eyes open, and not just on Ruva.
