Not sure if I am posting this in the right subforum but:

If they were, then they could be properly regulated and maintained by the government.

In Europe prostitution is legal and there is way less spread of STD's because the workers have to get checked every week and it is almost impossible for them to get around the tests, and if they don't take the tests and try to work they get arrested. There are also less kidnappings/killing of prostitutes because they don't have to try to hide and be unnoticed in the first place.

And as for weed I see it like the Prohibition of the 1920's. They made alcohol illegal, and so there was a lot of smuggling of alcohol over the Canadian border, and a notable spike in alcohol related crimes and injuries. I think that if weed were legalized, not only would it end many of the marijuana based drug wars but also help the medical patients who weed has been proven to help.

I agree. Simply put, it works in other countries, I'm sure we could at least try. Americans just like to pretend that they have "morals".

Yeah I know! what I think is immoral is people forcing their beliefs on others, and telling people that their harmless actions are wrong.

Well, I actually have an issue with prostitution. Why do that to your body? Buuuuut it's not me standing on that corner so I don't really give a damn. :/

I admit that I would never do that, and I might also question someone I met who was an escort. But people have a freedom to their bodies, and no matter how I feel I will defend that right.

Yeah.

Ohmygod craigslist killer. You'd think that incident alone would discourage people.

Well that's exactly what I am talking about!

In other countries where it is legal, in order to be a legal escort you must work for a company. Those companies have back ground checks, body guards, doctors and the like all in tow. In America, where you have to sneak around to do it, there are no safety precautions.

And when they're killed everyone's just like "Well, they were a whore, so it doesn't matter!" That's someone's child, thank you very much.

They say you waste time asleep...

Someone's been watching Penn & Teller.

That's a strong argument, and not to have it legalized is a very childish thing. However, our government absolutely hates admitting mistakes and are real sticklers for tradition. Also, the police are well paid thanks to the number of stoners they catch instead of chasing after murderers, burglars and rapists. There are plenty of reasons to legalize it that are smart and plenty of reasons to keep it illegal that are selfish or illogical.

...but I'm just tryna dream.

I know. I have family in Chile where prostitution is legal I suppose, and they wear professional clothing, slacks blouses and heels, and not the trashing fishnet and pleather here. They can be taken seriously as professionals.

The sad thing is, if we legalize weed and prostitution, then they could focus more on these other crimes.

Bit of a catch-22 for the U.S.

I find hooker-attire quite annoying. Especially since that's the attire trendy teens like to copy for some reason.

Well, not really. See, a catch-22 is when there's no real viable option. For example, you won't buy an electric car unless there are more charging stations, but unless there are more electric cars sold, more charging stations won't be built. The US has a real viable option. Legalize prostitution and marijuana. There's no catch to doing so. The tax money made from sale profits of the world's greatest activity (sex) and the world's greatest drug (marijuana) would easily match or outrank the money made from arresting prostitutes and drug users. It would also make it easier on the taxpayers who have to pay to feed and house people in jail. I have to pay for people like me to be in jail. That's bullshit.
