The day was close to fading away into nighttime. But this didn't stop Melody from going to the lakeside. It was her favorite spot to practice her violin playing. She carried her new beauty with pride. Oh how happy she was that she had finally gotten a new one after that terrible incident. Who would ever want to trash such a delicately expensive item. Oh well, that incident was over with, time to forget all about it any who.
Once she made it to the lakeside a warm smile spread across her muzzle. Ahhh, peace. Quiet. Tranquility. As far as she could tell, anyway. Melody carefully unzipped the zipper to her case and opened it, taking the sheets of music she had written out of it. She grabbed the tall black stand she had packed and set it up, placing the music sheets on it. She then picked her violin up, giving each string a strum. With a content sigh at her prized possession being in tune, she began to gracefully play her violin.

Thrice Eyeraep Hotdamn couldn't remember when she had begun her life of semi-nocturnality (was that even a word? Whatever). But a sunset was too pretty a thing to end the day, and no sunset was prettier than one over water. With any of her friends who would be willing to take her to the beach today busy, Thrice made her way to the lake in the gathering gloaming. With the feel of pine needles under her hooves and the smell of dry dust in the air, she decided that the only way it could be more perfect would be with music.
Which was why she was startled to hear the sound of a violin.
Well, okay, a violin was no fiddle, but it was close enough, and the sound was powerful. Thrice emerged from under the trees and watched the angelic on the violin. Something about her was familiar...Wait a minute! Black hair, silver eyes, violin? What was that girl's name, the one who had complained about a violin and had a fetish for animalistic noodles? Not Harmony, not Descant...Melody, that was it!
Rather than interrupt the music, Thrice plopped herself down and watched the sunset from here, with the sweet strains of the violin coming from Melody's instrument.

The sun slowly sank down, the glamorous light bouncing off of the clear waters that seemed to be dancing around to the soft tune Melody was playing. Each not she played rang through the air as she played proudly. Her playing had gotten better and she was proud of herself. The tunes pace picked up a bit along with an added hum. After she played a few more notes, she began to sing the song she had made up for this certain tune.
"When the sun sets with a glorious glow~ Good things are sure to coooomeee~" Melodies voice was strong, sweet and beautiful. "Night falls upon us like a blanket~ Soothing, calm and silent~" The lyrics ended there, as did the playing.
She gave a heavy sigh and looked at the music sadly. "Ooohhh, why must my mind draw blanks? It sounds so pretty too... It doesn't deserve to end there, no way!" Melody carefully set her violin back in it's case ,setting the bow on the stand. Her attention turned to the sky, the sun almost completely swallowed up, night following silently behind it.

She knew what would happen if she spoke, but she knew she had to say something in response anyway. "Aw, don't be hard on yourself, Melody," Thrice called out to her. "I'm sure you'll come up with more lyrics later. You can do it. It was sounding very nice. You're very good with that. The violin, I mean."
She got up and walked closer to the other female. The sun's fading echoes had turned the sky a delightful gold and pink--pink like me and gold like her, she tried not to think. She hadn't been a flirty partier in years, and there was no reason for her to start again now. Damien's gone, but he was right--I was too much of a loose cannon. It's time for me to not be such a willful heartbreaker and wildchild. And that starts with not flirting with everyone I meet. Even if they are pretty.
And anyway, I didn't mean that to be flirty. Only an observation of the facts.
The night was starting to get slightly chilly and the mosquitoes that swarmed around the lake were starting to try to sample Thrice's nose. She was determined not to leave until the last fires of sunset had faded, though. She could always smell her way back. "Pretty, isn't it?" she asked Melody.

Melody's attention quickly turned to Thrice as she heard her speak. A soft smile spread across her muzzle. She looked back to her violin and gently set it in it's case. "Thank you, Thrice." Her tail swayed a bit as she placed the bow in the case, zipping it up. The colors of the sky then caught her attention and she gazed upon them. A glorious mix of gold an pink- quite breathtaking. A sweet sigh escapes Melody's lips as she looked back to Thrice.
"Yes, it is quite gorgeous and breathtaking." Her smile was wide and soft. The glow from the sunset seemed to blanket everything in a sweet, delicate color that was a mix between pink and gold. Oh how simply GORGEOUS this sight was. If only it could last forever. though, night was just as pretty as this, too.

"I see you got a new violin," Thrice said. She nodded to Melody's instrument. "That is, I think you were the one who said they lost their instrument? I'm pretty sure I was talking the other day with someone who lost their violin when someone damaged it or something. I think it was you." She smiled ruefully at her own imperfect memory and trotted closer to the other noodle, her tails swishing back and forth. The day really was quite beautiful, with the gold of the sunset making Melody's golden fur seem all the brighter and more vivid. "So, what was that music you were playing?" she asked.

A bright, happy smile came to Melody's muzzle as she nodded at Thrice's question. The mere fact that Thrice had remembered even meeting her had warmed her heart. "Why yes, that was me." She said, followed by a small giggle.
"Oh~" Melody looked to her cased-up violin with some pride. "It's a song inspired by this glorious sunset and the beautiful night that follows behind it. I was on my way home until i caught a glimpse of the sunset from here and it just inspired me greatly." She sighed, her sigh somewhat dreamy-like as she looked to the sunset.
"Did you like my song? E-er, well... what i had of it so far? E-even though it's not much, i know but..." Melody looked back to Thrice with a small blush running across her cheeks.

"That's what I thought. I know musicians, but you're the only violinist I know." She playfully brushed one tail against Melody's legs. "Fiddlers, yes, but violinists, no." Thrice sat down to watch the glowing embers of the sun. "That doesn't surprise me. Sunsets are very inspiring. Have you ever seen one over the ocean? They're absolutely gorgeous, nothing like them." She turned to smile at Melody. "I liked your song. You sounded very pretty. Me, I'm not much of a singer. Can't really hit the proper notes, that sort of thing." She idly reached up to scrape a venturesome mosquito off of her nose, wriggling it a little bit. "What say we watch the sunset together, then we find someplace where we aren't going to be eaten alive?"

"Ah, i do so hope to run into some fiddlers. I love meeting other musicians."Melody nodded, her small blush growing a bit as the other female brushed a tail against her legs."Oh? Maybe, well... Maybe i could help you with singing? Like my mother helps me?" She tilted her head to one side, pondering this thought. It could be fun despite the fact she had never taught anyone anything. She quickly snapped out of her pondering thanks to her hair falling in her face.
"That sounds like a wonderful idea, Thrice. The only downfall of being at the lakeside, mosquitoes." Melody gave a light scoff at one fluttering by her.

"I might be tonedeaf, just a warning. I mean, I've never been diagnosed with it, but it's possible." Thrice didn't really mind. She knew some people who insisted on singing all the time, or singing when they heard their favorite songs, but Thrice was just happy to listen to music, not necessarily play it. She had wanted to as a kit, but as she grew older, she found more and more that she could live without it. "I could maybe introduce you to my fiddler friends," she said. She turned to look at Melody's face and couldn't help but smile at the small blush. She felt a little thrill when she saw it, a thrill she tried to push back. No! No taking advantage of friends. That's wrong. Or even thinking about taking advantage of them.
"Yeah, mosquitoes." Thrice rolled her eyes. "Who do they think they are, eh? Just bringing back a few quarts of blood to impress the boys, strutting around in the air all like, 'Yo, I'm a bloodsucking parasite!'" Thrice laughed. So what if what she had said wasn't that funny? She had learned to laugh at herself over the years.

"Oh, that's fine. Even if you are tone-deaf, i think it'll be, uh, fun singing together." Her blush remained across her delicate cheeks which lit up with yet another bright smile. "Could you, really? I would love to meet more violin players!" Melody's voice rang with excitement at the idea. Upon noticing she got a bit carried away, she nervously moved her hair to the side.
Melody about lost it there. For some reason, that had been the funniest thing she had ever heard... Yet. She quickly put both of her paws over her mouth as she bounced with laughter, trying not to be too obnoxious. Perhaps it was the mental image she had of a little mosquito all dressed up like a gangster with the chains, sunglasses and such; strutting about like it was all that.

Thrice had no such compulsions towards gentility. She joined Melody's laughter with her own, her mental image supplying a mosquito decked out in bling with a backwards hat. She brushed another one off her nose. "They are voracious this evening, aren't they?" She smiled at Melody, noting the deep blush but ignoring it. The sunset was rapidly fading now from the sky, and she found herself sad to see it leave, and not just because it was a very pretty sunset.
"Maybe we could meet up tomorrow or something? They're probably either busy or asleep right now. I mean, we could check, but I'm not sure where to start looking." Where should we go after this? Maybe someplace where we can get a bite to eat. She was starting to get a bit peckish now.

The laughter slowly faded to a stop. Her attention turned to the rapidly disappearing sun. Shame, the beautiful sunset was fading away rather quickly. "Oh, those silly little gangster mosquitoes." Melody nipped at her own paw that had just been bit by one of them. How tedious of that sneaky little booger!
"Tomorrow would be best, if you think they are busy and or asleep right now. I wouldn't want to be a bother of any sorts." Melody lifted her violin case up, mounting it on her shoulder by the strap on it. The moon had began to slowly take over the sky, the sun barely showing as it went down slowly. "We should get going, it's getting dark. But where should we go?" Melody didn't want to suggest going to her place, and she would feel like a bother for going to Thrice's place. Tapping her chin in thought, her face lit up as she got an idea.
"Oh, i know! We could just go back to the shop, unless you had a different place in mind?"

"The shop sounds okay, but I was thinking maybe we should get some food," Thrice said. "I haven't had much today." As if to punctuate that comment, her stomach growled. Thrice snorted and shook her head. "Dramatic timing, I'd call it, if it was actually dramatic." She wasn't even sure if Melody would be interested in getting any food. And if she was, that meant that Thrice would have to make a suggestion, and ice cream was probably not an option in the interest of fulfilling her hunger. "I guess we could find some food at the shop, though."

"Of course we could get something to eat if you're hungry. We wouldn't want you to be hungry, right?" She couldn't help but let out a small giggle at the stomach growling. "If you want to settle for finding something at the shop, we could start heading there now. Unless you would prefer a certain place to eat?"
