Dianthus Caryophyllus; that was the flower resting between Static's paws. More commonly known as the Carnation and roughly translating to 'flower of love'. That was supposed to be romantic, wasn't it? But the fact that the flower itself was the reproductive organ of the plant, that was classified as a 'turn off'. So...why were these supposed to be romantic...?
Yes, these were the thoughts floating around Static's head as he watched the sun rise higher towards it's midway position in the sky. Though it technically never rose, just the earth constantly rotating around it. To think many used to (and still might) worship it, there were far more brillant things on this planet. Like...like...Static blushed, still at a loss why his mate chose him, out of all those thousands of normal foxes

The female in question was out running. She had a considerably larger amount of energy than her mate, which was only to be expected since they were a different subspecies. Sometimes Static came with her, but when she was alone Shani tended to really push herself to her limits. Besides enjoying herself in that way, it was also pleasant to return to her mate.
Mate. An odd word still to Shani, yet there was no other way to describe what Static was to her. They were both so different, yet in this they were one in how awkward this new experience was. Static's little romantic gestures still made her blush, for even if he seemed a bit unsure she could still feel the sincerity behind his words or gestures.
Just to be sure she made it to their appointed meeting place on time, Shani turned her mind back to running and put on an extra burst of speed. She could smell Static even now, so she had to be close.

Static's ear twitched in the direction of a sound and he sat up. Too big to be a rabbit, it had to either be a deer or fox. The first option wasn't very likely, given their behaviour. Turning his head he finally spotted her, as if his thoughts had summoned her. Which was impossible. As always his thoughts became scattered. Shani had the incredible ability to mess up his thought pattern, that one of the many reasons he felt such rapture for her.
He smiled, content to just sit and watch her, meanwhile trying to get his thoughts in order. one plus one equals two, you cannot lick your own elbow, a pregnant goldfish is called a twit...hey, Shani looks really happy. Is she happy to see me? Once again, the task at hand failed and he ended up preoccupied and no longer paying attention to the world around him.

Giggling, Shani covered the last yards between her and Static with a leaping bound and landed neatly about a foot in front of her mate. "Static," she crooned, leaning forward to nuzzle the male. It was so cute watching him spaz out, still, when she was around, but then she was the one of the two that was better in tune with her emotions. Love never seemed to make a ton of sense, which had to be a doozy in Static's logic-run world.
Shani pulled back, grinning brightly. "So, wha'd you do while I was gone," she queried, looking the male up and down as though the answer would just spring into her head if she looked at enough of him.

He bumped foreheads with Shani, relishing the moment. Being near her, he just felt the impuse to no longer listen to reason and have...fun. 'I watched the sun as the earth revolved around it, improved my knowlege of plants and...well, waited for you' he said, able to go into specifics but that would waste time. 'oh, you can have this if you want...flowers are nice, aren't they?' he said passing her the carnation.
'How was your time spent? Did you enjoy yourself?' He asked

Shani smiled brightly, tucking the brilliant red flower into her harness. "It's lovely! Thank you for getting it for me." She wasn't usually a flower girl, but it was a gift from Static that made it special. Plus she actually enjoyed how carnations smelled.
"I had a fun time too. Betcha if I told you how far I ran in the last few days from here then back you wouldn't believe it." Shani puffed up proudly. She still loved that she managed to surprise her mate over little things like this, though once they had spent more time together these things would become rarer.

That's when Static got all...well, there wasn't really a name for it. Maybe there was, but he didn't know it just yet. What he knew was his cheeks tuned pink and his heart seemed to do little backflips. Was he sick? Static was faily sure that a heart didn't do that sort of stuff normally. And his didn't usually...unless he was around Shani.
He thought for a moment, trying to calculate how long it took her and the average speed of a fox. But his mate was different to average foxes, demonstated to him many times. So where did that leave him? 'I am glad you enjoyed yourself. Go ahead and surprise me' And knowing her, she probably would

Shani looked smug. "Would you believe I covered over thirty miles a day? I think I might have even done over fourty a couple days." She could have covered more, but there was the need to eat, drink, and sleep of course. All that considered, Shani felt she'd done remarkably well.
Still it was good to be back with her mate. Shani leaned up again Static, breathing in his scent and taking comfort in his warm presence.

Shani really was remarkable. ' That's impressive, I surely couldn't cover that range of distance in that amount of time.' But then again, Static exceeded in brains and his physical talents weren't up to par 'Actually i don't think i know anyone who might be able to exceed that' He added. Thinking about how he didn't really know many foxes anyway, having spent a majority of his life as a hermit. But it was still impressive, no matter who he compared Shani to.
He welcomed the affectionate gesture, kissing her softly on her cheeck. He'd missed her, more than he was comfortable admitting to others. Except Shani, he would tell her anything she wanted to know.

Shani chuckled. "Ah, you flatter my vanity, love. It's not all that difficult to do, especially at a time when there's food aplenty in the land. My kind are built for this sort of nothing." Nonetheless her liquid gold eyes were warm and loving as they looked at her mate.
"Any plans at all for us," she asked, scratching at her ribs to get her harness to sit more comfortably. "It's still summer and the weather seems well enough, though with autumn around the corner were we planning to migrate or den down?"

Static thought. In his lifetime he'd attempted both of those options, having no real preference at all as to which one he would favour." I have no preference, the choice is yours" He would follow Shani anywhere, no objections. If she wanted to migrate, static would havev no objections to that.
As for what to do today... well, he had no clue. He'd been so looking forwards to seeing his mate again that he hadn't given thought to what to do after. " If we do den down, we could use today to find a suitable cave or home... he suggested with a small shrug.

"How about we sorta merge the two," Shani said, thinking. "It's a lot like you said, we look around the area that we can comfortably travel in a day and see if there's any prime spots to bed down in for awhile. If we can find anything, we pick the best spot we did find, then tomorrow we migrate and look for a better place to settle for awhile."
Shani looked up at Static to get his opinion, and gave him a love-filled smile. "Either way, we get to spend time together to make up for the period of solitude we both underwent."

" Of course, seems logical" He said with a nod, then bent down to nuzzle Shani " I missed you." Funny how things can change. Not so long ago he would have said that love was nothing more than an attachment designed to keep mates together and healthy, so as to increase the species chances for survival. But now....now it just felt like so much more. Like his mate had a part of him and he had a part of her.
He turned to leave and waited, ever patient. " I do hope you're not picky with these things" He jested with a wink, sort of hoping he had the whole 'joking' thing down-pat. (( took my time with this relpy, didn't i? emotion_facepalm ))

"Oh you know me, I could sleep on a snow-covered rock if there were no other options," Shani said in a serious voice, though her eyes twinkled with laughter. It wasn't often her mate made attempts at humor, the concept tended to war with his liking of facts and logic.
"How about you," she asked, her voice still so serious she might have been speaking of matters of life and death. "Think you could manage with decayed leaves and pine cones for bedding, or will nothing do but fresh leaves and fragrant pine needles?"
((XD It's alright, I do the same thing sometimes.))

((Itttttsss baaaaaaack! XD Oh I did miss rp-ing him~))
Static thought about it for a moment. "Pine cones would be...uncomfortable to lie on, and I'm sure you would get sick if you did sleep out in the snow. But I don't have too much an objection to decayed leaves, or the latter." He sensed she may have been joking...but she sounded so serious. Humour was a pesky thing to understand.
"Then again, I think we should make do with what we find. Sound agreeable?"
He paced away with his mate...his mate. ' I really am never going to get used to that...' Only a few moments had passed when they had discovered a small cave. While small, it would have been a good place...if not for it being occupied by a family of raccoons. The parents found no reason not chatter angrily and throw various sticks at them in an attempt to protect their home. "Perhaps elsewhere there may be something more suited...." He murmured to Shani in an amused tone.
