User ImageIshara trotted forward with a spring in her step as she headed toward the edges of the lands. It wasn’t often that she was able to visit her brother with him being a scout now, but she did whenever she could.

If there wasn’t anyone else that Ishara could go to, it was her family, especially her siblings. Besides, Iraeneus was her intel on all of the newcomers to the pride and it never hurt to know about people before you met them right?

Looking ahead, she searched the horizon for her brother having gotten close to the border. Not seeing him, she walked on to get closer. She hadn’t told her brother that she’d be visiting him today, wanting to surprise him while he was on duty.

He hadn't anticipated that he would have many visitors to this particular location. As of late, the border had been silent and the only 'trespassers' had come in the form of preybeasts and other nomadic beasts. No lions, cheetahs, leopards or hyenas happened to pursue them and as a consequence, his partols had been rather quiet. It was a rare opportunity for the lion to relax and he was content to take time to himself, exploring some of his more favoured locations. Given that the tides could change within moments, it was better for him to enjoy it now, rather than waste the chance and mourn its loss later.

Alas, his wandering had brought him to one of the trees lining the region and as he lay within the shade, he took note of the wandering form on the horizon. At first glance it was obvious that this was no preybeast and his initial assumption was that he was in the presence of a foreigner. However, as the feline grew closer, her gait gave him a sense of familiarity - he knew that walk, and more importantly, he knew those marks. Aha, well wasn't he a blessed individual today?

A smile lined his lips as he pushed himself to all fours and proceeded towards Ishara. His pace wasn't a quick one but it did the job and sure enough, he was within a short enough distance of her to call out. Taking in a small breath, he readied himself and then gave a holler, jumping up onto his back paws to give a wave with his front ones.

"Good mornin'!"

After walking for a bit and coming close to the border, she began to look around for Iraeneus. Beginning to think that he wasn’t here, she saw a lone tree standing on the border, and beneath it was the very lion she was looking for.

A wide and radiant smile grew across Ishara’s face as she finally spotted her brother. She watched as he rose and began walking towards her. Quickening her pace, she made her way over to him. “Good morning Iraeneus, laying around on the job are we?”, she teased him and laughed.

It had been a bit since she got to bother him, so she had to mess with him upon seeing him. “How are you today?” It was always good to see him since didn’t get to see him as much as she would have liked to. But that’s why she was here wasn’t it?

"Ah, well..." he smiled a touch bashfully at her teasing and swept his tail round to rub sheepishly at the back of his neck. He knew she was playing with him, but he had never truly grown out of being an easy target. He was a big softie at heart and this was perhaps why he had been selected as a scout - after all, to make for a presentable pride, an individual had to be approachable! Nevertheless, this gentle nature did make him the prime target for the family when they sought out someone who could be easily embarassed, or better yet, made to blush to the point they resembled a plum in public!

"Someone has to do it, otherwise we'd all be so stressed out that we'd fall ill," he pointed out, a small nod added for emphasis. "One of us has to channel that stress and act as a beacon for inner peace and calmness - I feel that I am most appropriate for this job," he murmured sagely. It was in these moments that he resembled a guru quite a bit, even going so far as to seat himself in a meditative position. With his eyes shut, he allowed about thirty seconds to pass and then opened one of them to inspect his sibling again.

"I've been well," he replied at last, jumping smoothly into the next topic of conversation as he seated himself in a more comfortable position. "Not to jinx myself or anything but it's been a touch quiet on this side of the border as of late, well, least in my region," he confessed and released a sigh. "Not that I mind a little peace and quiet, it's just a touch unusual sometimes," he added after a few moments. "What about you? You seem healthy...no broken bones, scars or knocks to the head, seems like you're almost making progress at becoming a good huntress," he teased softly.

The smile that had planted itself upon her face seemed to had ingrained itself there as she could not seem to dampen it. It made her happy that she had a brother like Iraeneus, and she felt giddy and playful when she was around him, much like the small cubs that she enjoyed playing with.

“I guess you’re right. We can’t have you working too hard,” she said humorously. Despite her teasing, she knew that Iraeneus was a wonderful asset to the pride, and she didn’t just think that because he was her brother. More than once, she had listened to newcomers comment on the kind scout with orange eyes, and it always made her proud of him.

“Whatever,” she rolled her eyes at him, still smiling as he teased her back. However, listening to him, her smile managed to fade a bit. “Quiet, huh? I don’t know if this has anything to do with it, but I’m sure you’ve heard about the rumors lately?," she lowered her voice as though there were someone near.

"The ones about the hyenas coming to the Pridelands?”

"I heard something along those lines, yes," Iraeneus said hesitantly, his facial expression creasing into one of concern for the first time. He hadn't been allowed to abandon his post, it simply would have been too dangerous to leave every front undefended and as such he had been kept predominantly in the dark regarding the condition of the pride. Deep down he knew that if something drastic or awful had truly happened then he would have been notified - priorities would obviously have shifted and he'd have been recalled.

...He could only assume that the news had been satisfactory. He wouldn't say 'good', but he preferred to keep things on a more positive note.

"But the details were sporadic, there weren't many messages sent in this direction," he pointed out uneasily before regarding his sister more closely. Suffice to say that she seemed unharmed, this brought him some level of comfort at the very least. "Given that you're intact and don't seem to have any injuries, can I hazard a guess that everything is okay?" he murmured with a touch of uncertainty.

"Or should I be packing up my things and dragging my fuzzy rump home immediately?"

She laughed lightly in amusement, “I am unharmed so far, and I don’t think you need to come home just yet. Although, if anything does happen, you’ll be the first to know.” Thinking about Mheetu’s words, she couldn’t help but be a little on edge. If the younger ones were feeling it, then something had to be going on.

Seeing the concerned look on her brother’s face made her momentarily feel guilty for bringing this to him. However, she would hate herself if something happened to him that could have been prevented or lessen by her warning him of any upcoming issues.

The very fact that Irenaeus wasn’t being told anything made her glad that she had come to check on him. “Besides, this just gives me an excuse to drop in on you more often. Can’t have you getting eaten by hyenas with no one around to protect you,” she said, smiling cheekily.

"Well, as they say... No news is good news," Iraeneus pointed out gently, electing to take a more positive stance when it came to the unfortunate news. It was undeniable that there had been a disturbance at home and while he had been fortunate enough to be unharmed at this border, that didn't mean that he didn't feel any remorse for the brave souls who had defended the others. The fact that nothing had come this way indicated that they had been successful in a manner of speaking, even if it there were casualties.

...They had limited the damage and ensured that all sides weren't left undefended. Still, this didn't mean that Iraeneus with comfortable with the fact that such action had been required in the first place. As one who appreciated the peace and quiet, the prospect of having to step up and defend his home was not one he relished. Oh, he would annihilate a creature if he had to, he just preferred diplomacy was all.

"I suspect I could hold off two or three hyenas," he continued with a hint of an impish smile and nudged his sister gently. "But do you honestly believe you need an excuse to come and visit me?" he added and canted his head to the side. His impish expression soon vanished and his eyes became round as he regarded his sibling. "If anything, your real excuse is that you should be making sure I'm eating properly! What if I was surviving on grass and berries to defend this wondrous homeland of ours?"

"For all you know I could be lying on a stone howling in misery at a lack of a decent meal and that would be terrible, just terrible..."

Momentarily swept away in a flurry of worried thoughts, she quickly shook them aside. What use was there for her to get caught up in them when they hadn’t and weren’t occurring. All she wanted was for her brother to be safe.

Laugh softly, she responded, “Of course not.” She knew that she didn’t need any excuses. Still, it was fun make them up and joke with her brother. Sometimes she wished that she could spend her days out here with him. Unfortunately, her own life and responsibilities awaited her.

She needed to hunt for the day, and she’d promised one of her friends help her with her cubs later that day. Looking into Irenaeus’ green eyes, she said sadly, “I have to go. I still have things that I need to do today, but I am happy that I came to see that you’re alright...for now,” she said humorously.

“Take care of yourself alright?” She regarded her brother sincerely, and began to plot her next visit.

"Rest assured, I will take care of myself until your next visit," he confirmed and hazarded a teasing smile. His lips then pursed and he released a small sigh, shooing his sibling off with a wave of his paw. It was nice to receive visitors, but given their ages they both had duties to attend to. She was a huntress and as a consequence, was expected to provide the pride with food, missing a day wouldn't make her the most popular of lionesses! On a similar line, he was a scout and his duty was to guard the borders...too many distractions and someone might slip through.

He might have looked lazy, but he was very good at his job.

"I'll eat properly and I promise not to fight anyone I can't beat," he added light heartedly and chuckled. Still, there was very little he could say beyond that and with a soft sigh, he cast his gaze towards his sister one more time, he'd watch her until she disappeared from sight, and then he would watch the borders again. That being said, it was in those moments that he made a mental note to return home now and again to visit his family - a trip back now and then wasn't going to hurt anyone.
