She had been fishing for most of the morning and so far she had been fairly successful. On the grassy patch at her side a small pile of fish lay and she lay beside them, her whiskers dangling in the river water. The river had finally cleared enough that she could use her tried and tested method of capturing the fish within.
Of course, despite all of this fishing, despite the fact she had spent the day doing something she loved she felt heavy and fed up. She had, had several conversations with her siblings, her father, her mother and each of them said the same thing. It was just a crush she should get over Xenon, he was too old and clearly not interested in her.
It made her feel very frustrated, perhaps she had just pushed herself ont he older male? perhaps she was just crushing on her saviour. It made her very depressed to think that.
Hooking her paw in to the clear water she added another fish to the small pile quickly despatching it with a quick bite to it's neck so it stopped flapping and didn't return tot he watery depths. She had enough fish heer to feed her whole family but this, her most favorite activity hadn't made her feel any better. If anything she felt even more annoyed with herself, she was wasting all this energy just because her mind was full of questions she was convinced, only days before were not questions at all. Was she in love with Xenon or was it just a crush?

The lioness had lasted out for a considerable amount of time - there was very little the lion could do other than to wait and see if she came to her senses. For weeks now she had been adamant that he was the one, her ideal mate, and as such she had been determined to keep him bound to these lands. Admittedly, the lion had absolutely no qualms with the Bahari in many respects, it was a pleasant location and possessed many comfortable places to rest but a wandering and nomadic soul always found it hard to settle when they felt obligated to stay. Such was the issue that Xenon now faced, and as the seasons drew on and the herds began to make their way back towards the lands he was going to have to make a decision.
...One that would get him hated for the rest of his life, most likely.
Alas, he could do nothing at this point in time and rather than dwell, the lion sucked in a breath and pressed on across the beach. He was shuffling towards his usual spot, his favoured perch, and as of yet there had been no major interruptions. With the sun on his back and a pleasant breeze whispering across his neck, he suspected that this afternoon would be particularly enjoyable. In fact, he would be so bold as to remark that it would be perfect...or at least he would have been, had he not been forced to pause at the sight of the rather dejected lioness by the pools.
"You know, when most individuals manage to claim that much of a haul, they're usually happy about it," he pointed out mildly, his gaze flicking towards the hefty pile of meat at her side.

She was so ensconced in her own little world that she didn't even hear Xenon approach, so when he spoke she jumped out of her skin. Or at least she looked shocked. "You scared me half to death!" She states puffing out her cheeks in annoyance as she calmed her heart rate.
"Oh, yeah, well that isn't that hard to do." She shuffles her paws looking down so as not to meet the gaze of the older male. She wanted to look at him, she really did, se wanted to sit with him and have romantic interludes but if she was just crushing on the big male she didn't want to look at him incase she looked star struck. "I find fishing relaxing, easy to do. It's nothing to get all that excited about." She whispers glancing up at the gray speckled male.
"Do you want one? I have plenty." It wasn't like her family would miss one fish, if anything she would probably be scolded for catching so many. She knew better. Well she could offer others her catch too that way it wouldn't go to waste.
She sighs heavily and lifts her head resting her weary eyed gaze on the big male "Can I ask you a serious question?" It was rare for her to feel so inclined to ask 'serious' questions, she liked to live in the now she was young and carefree, but a serious question needed to be asked!

Both of his eyebrows rose in response to her remarks, perhaps with a hint of scepticism lining each of them. If she considered fishing to be relaxing then she certainly didn't look like that at them moment, in fact, she looked positively miserable. Either that or she was plotting world domination, bloody murder or something of a similarly nefarious description. As an individual who always elected not to pry, he forced down the sudden desire to point this out and shook his head. No sooner had he done so than the furrowed brows had vanished and his expression had transformed into one of neutrality.
"Hard or not, they usually take pride in it," he pointed out in a low voice. Nevertheless he didn't pursue this further, sensing that it was an unwise path to walk down. Instead, he sat himself down comfortably and shook his head again, though this time it was in response to her query as opposed to dismissing his own thoughts. "You may keep the fish to yourself, they are not as appealing to me as they are to yourself," he replied amicably and offered a small smile. He might have enjoyed the Bahari lands, but he still loved his red meat and as a consequence, had difficulty in fully appreciating the marine life when it came to meal time!
Alas, rather than dwell for long on her offer it seemed that Afina had already placed it to one side and was pursuing another topic entirely... probably one he should have dodged. Ah, but he had technically brought this on himself and as such, he could do nothing more than accommodate her until she got whatever it was she wished to say, off her chest. "It would depend on your definition of serious," he responded after a few moments. "If it's a debate on aquatic life forms and seaweed then I feel like I should probably give it a miss - if it's not, then I suppose I might be able to answer it..."

She couldn't help but smile a little. He was such a doofus sometimes, he said things that mad her laugh inside and giggle in a very girly manner on the outside. She uttered one of these giggles now and shook her head. "No I assure you I wouldn't ask you about sea life or anything quite as mundane." She raises a brow and settles herself in to a more comfortable laying position scooping up a fish and turning it between her paws. "You know fish are good for you. My mother says they have this oil that keeps your joints supple and your fur shiny." She blinks owlishly, she was getting side tracked, she hadn't meant to but Xenon had this way of side tracking her train of thought.
She sighs and lifts her gaze placing the fish down, she wanted to be messing with something, using something to distract her mind away from the serious question she had to ask.
"I'v been having some very long conversations..with my family.." She pauses and lets a slow breath out. "They seem to think I have a crush on you.." She frowns a little her tail lashing about behind her. "My family thinks I should spend some time away from you..Let you move on if you want to.." She sighs heavily she could feel the contracting of her heart as she said those words "Is that what you want?"

"Most creatures when consumed have an oil that keeps your fur sleek and shiny - being away from salt water helps quite a bit with that as well," he replied with a wry smile. He didn't intend to upset her but the salty air did have a way of obliterating the soft, sleek and otherwise glossy appearance of a creature's fur over an extended period of time. Dry as the roguelands might have been on some occasions, it did leave room to be rather metrosexual if one desired - not that he ever held any great concern for his coat, but the option was there if he felt otherwise inclined!
Regardless, this was neither here nor there and once she had regathered her thoughts and reverted to her original question, he was placed in a position that was most unusual. In many respects, there was no right or wrong answer to what she had asked - especially when he wasn't her! His expression seemed to convey these thoughts and for a time, he appeared to be a touch puzzled. Still, he wasn't one to be delayed for too long and eventually he seemed to come up with an answer that he felt was sufficient.
"I don't really think this is a question that has any relevance to what I want," he began and released a sigh. "This is predominantly to do with your own inner thoughts and beliefs - though I would perhaps side with your family in the given circumstances," he continued. Pursing his lips, he let these words sink in before he spoke again. "If you believe that it will give you clarity, then some distance would be something I would encourage, then you can decide whether your family's observations are correct or not."
"...Unfortunately, this isn't a question I can answer for you."

"Mother says fish is best, we don't have scruffy fur after all." She smiles a proud smile for a moment before returning to the matter at paw.
She resisted the urge to pout. She also held her breath for a moment to stop any wayward tears from escaping, she wasn't going to cry or be a baby about this. If he wanted space she could give it to him. She would just come back and not have 'just a crush' she would prove to him, to them all that she was grown up enough to love someone not just be some kid with a crush on a older male.
She nods her head moving in to a more upright position she lets out a long and exasperated sigh. "Do you like me at all..That way?" She looks at him hopefully, maybe she could get over him, maybe she was just having silly girlie feelings for the big male and if only, if only he could say yes or the dreaded no, she could move on, like her parents wanted her to.
"I don't think I'v asked you that, I just..assumed." She frowns and looks at her paws moving them awkwardly.

He wasn't going to argue about the trivial subject of scruffy or tidy fur, in the grand scheme of things it was completely irrelevant. What they regarded as tidy was considerably different to what those beyond the sea would define it as. Wind swept and interesting, was generally, not the most 'tidy' of appearances to the vast majority of individuals! Instead, he permitted her this moment of pride and kept his mind firmly on the issues at hand - it seemed that like all females, she was destined to lend herself to very loaded questions that would cause issues regardless of how they were answered.
"I don't know," he replied with a level of honesty that simply couldn't be ignored. He'd never been an individual who favoured a lie, while white lies had their place in society, he didn't tend to use them in moments like these. After all, a white lie in moments like these could do more harm than good - especially when dealing with emotions. "I certainly have a fondness for you, but I do not possess the ability to distinguish anything other than that," he explained. His smile was wry at this point and he didn't appear to be affected by her confession that she had made an assumption... Her assumptions had been obvious from the beginning!
"Alas, the assumption is a given, I rather think that females are programmed to perform such an action," he pointed out lightly.

"You know, you can be really sexist sometimes Xenon." She huffs taking his last comment first. "We're not all alike you know? My sisters aren't all the same as I am. I'm just, determined, my mother says so." She pulls a togue and rolls her eyes letting a heavy huff escape her lips.
Finally letting a nod tilt her head the young blue lioness smiles lightly. "I do understand you know, I know you think I don't but I do." She shakes her head "I thought maybe we would have something but maybe my family is right, maybe you are right, I should just, let you go? Is that what you want me to do? Just leave you be? I will if you ask me to."
Afina was starting to feel a bit melodramatic and she could feel the tears she was refusing to shed stinging at her eyes. She would not blubber, she would go and sob out her silly sorrows in the privacy of the family den, in a corner where no one could disturb her. She didn't want Xenon to think of her as a weak little girl who couldn't hold on to her emotions. She wanted to be seen by him as strong and grown up. She wondered if he would ever see her as anything other than the little girl he had rescued? She doubted it and it made her heart tighten in her chest. She so wanted him to just love her back, she wanted this to not be a crush, but maybe her family was right she was just little too determined, too young too foolish, maybe this was just a childish crush, maybe she just had to let Xenon go and get on with her life?
Why was it so hard to say the words she had said then? Why was it so hard to think of him leaving her forever, if this was JUST a crush?

"It was a joke," Xenon pointed out, his tone smattered with wryness. He knew that she could be oblivious on occasions, everyone could be when it came to certain subjects. Alas, when it came to him she was almost guaranteed to miss the humour in everything. Apparently she was determined to take everything seriously and as such, he was shouldered with the burden of one unhappy kitten. If her affections had been directed towards someone else this would have been significantly easier to deal with, but as it stood, it was him...
He heaved a sigh, perhaps with a touch of finality and shook his head. This really wasn't a question that he could answer for her and trying to get her to make that discovery herself was tough. She wanted some sort of sign from him, some sort of indication...but this was nigh on impossible when he didn't know himself! Romance, courtship and similar subjects were lost upon this lion and while he was fond of her, there was no real way for him to grade how much!
"I want you to do what you think is right," he replied softly and pursed his lips. "It may not necessarily be easy, but do what you believe is right," he finished. This seemed like a satisfactory answer to him and as such, he fell silent once more. Hopefully this would give her the direction she sought, otherwise, he was at a bit of a loss!

Afina huffed, it didn't sound very much like a joke to her. Maybe that was the problem she took things the wrong way especially when it came to Xenon. She was starting to feel very confused here, what did she want from Xenon? Well a commitment either way not just, platitudes. Well it looked like she was going to have to put up with his platitudes he wasn't going to give her an answer, she would just have to follow her head for a change instead of her heart and avoid Xenon for a while.
Tilting her head in a nod the young lioness gets to her paws and pulls open a bag made of leather, she starts to pile the fish in to it, hooking the handle around her neck when she was done.
"I wish you would give me a straight answer Xenon, you're very cryptic sometimes." She sighs and pads past him. "I guess..I'll see you around, I need to get this fish home to my family." She frowns a little turning her head back towards home. She was clearly going to have to figure this out on her own, Xenon wasn't going to be any help and unless he started to act like he like, liked her, she would have to let this so called crush run its course and move on, even if it made her sad to acknowledge that.

"You and I both, Afina," the lion replied quietly as she took her leave. If he were capable of responding appropriately then he would have done so as he was accustomed to providing concise answers. Alas, living in the Bahari had evidently done something to his brain, as he seemed incapable of providing the lioness or her family with any clarification. Even he could see that from a distance it was unbelievably dishonourable and some might even be so bold as to claim he was leading them on! Well, they might have been if he was younger, now they may have considered him senile.
Unfortunately, there was nothing that Xenon could do at this precise moment in time, other than to hope that Afina found the answers she sought. When she saw the world with clarity again, then perhaps he would too and in doing so, he'd be able to give her the answer she sought. Alternatively, she might even figure that out herself!
"Take care, Afina," he murmured at last and gave a bow of his head as she took her departure. Oi, only a month or so before the herds returned and he could make a quick exit - or so he thought at least.
