Ayoka awoke with the sun, she stretched her sleep-dulled body and gave a mini-roaring yawn. With droopy eyes Ayoka surveyed her lands in contentment and far off sounds made her ears twitch lightly. A storm in the distance approached and her nose wiggled as she took in the sent of rain. It felt like it was going to be a big as well as long one. It was strange to see the sun out and not far off have it pitch black. Yes a nasty one approached.
Looking around her makeshift hut she frowned, it did not look like it would provide much shelter for her to keep her safe from what could be danger winds as well as rock (hail). Pink eyes narrowed. She had no choice, she would have to leave and find somewhere safer to hide. With those thoughts in mind she began to dash to find proper a dwelling.

The leopard lay stretched out on a lower tree limb. It was so low that if he stretched out far enough he could barely graze the top of the water below. As it was his emerald gaze stayed fixated on the moving surface until his eyes started to close. It was so nice and peaceful out here with no family bouncing around to drive him crazy. If it wasn’t for how his mother was the male might have actually been able to sleep a nice peaceful sleep, but he twitched awake at every sound. He would not let his mother get him again. Knowing her it wouldn’t surprise him if she pounced him even while he was up here in the tree – straight into the water! He wasn’t a water cat like his mother and so while he could swim the leopard tended to only get into water for a drink or to clean his fur. Never for fun.
As it was he still wasn’t afraid to get wet. Nor was he originally really that concerned about the sudden change in the sky. Instead Kamau just sleepily watched as the ripples in the water started to increase and the drops of rain began to fight their way through the tree’s branches and to his fur. Oh look at that. It took a good moment before he blinked to realization. As much as he didn’t mind the rain, it looked like this might be a rough one. Claws digging into the tree limb the leopard looked back up at the sky with a frown. Great. Just great.

Ayoka had been only traveling at a fast pace for a few minutes before the heavy rains began. Her once light fur was darkening quickly and she really hoped a cold wasn't in her future as stray cool winds blew down on her. Pausing for a moment to catch her breath as well as her equilibrium she looked around and found the perfect hiding nook. The only issue was making it across the rolling waves and fast pace of the water before her. Looking to her left was a tree trunk that must of fallen from the strong winds, it was her only chance and she prayed the branch would hold her weight.
A deep breath for courage Ayoka stepped onto the balance beam aka the tree trunk and slowly made her way across. She would have made it too if she hadn't felt her back legs loosing grip and felt them sliding downward into the water. So much for her kind for being graceful, was her last thought before darkness embraced her mind.

It was a white out. That is if it wasn’t so dark already. Kamau was surprised by the ferocity of the winds and rain. He was still in the tree and clinging to the limb with a strong grip. While trying to see ahead towards the waters which were steadily rising the leopard squinted so that he could make out any shapes. There was one…was that a leopard? Out over the water during this type of storm? Was she crazy?
Kamau couldn’t believe his eyes.
But he had no time to doubt the reality of the situation because as soon as he spotted her the leopardess slipped right into the water. Sheesh! “Out of all-“ But the sound of his splash into the water covered the rest of his words. In this type of weather swimming for someone like him was even tough. Kamau had to struggle just to keep his head above the waters and even then he often found himself getting splashed in the face. But he wasn’t worried about himself, he was too busy looking for the one that had slipped in. Where was she? Just as soon as he was about to give up the search Kamau spotted a form bobbing in the water. Diving towards it the male leopard swam beneath her body and did his best to keep them above the water. After letting the current chase them downstream the leopard managed to snag onto another fallen tree and barely touched the shore before falling down with the female leopard.

Slowly she was brought back to the present. Vision blurred, throat sore from all the water she had swallowed and head hurting like the devil, Ayoka lay still for a few minutes while her brain tried to catch up to current events. Somehow she was out of the water and laying on grass shivering a bit from both fear as well as exhaustion. With droopy eyes she looked around as she still felt the rain beating against her body, like sharp stinging bugs stabbing her all over.
" Oh!" Her voice rusty from ingesting all the riverwater, Ayoka coughed before continuing with a semi-laboured breath. "Was it you who saved me?" A crack of thunder render the air, so loud it was deafening. "I think that is our que to find some place to wait this out don't you agree?" Standing shakily she waited for the other to get up and hope he agreed with helping her find shelter.

Coughing out a mouthful of water the male groaned. His body definitely was not going to easily forgive this abuse. What in the world had possessed him to dive into such raging waters anyway? Slowly opening his eyes the leopard saw the still body of the female. Oh. That was right. He wanted to be annoyed, but really Kamau found himself worried. Was she alright? He was about to push himself up so he could at least try to move towards her when she moved.
That was a relief.
But like usual his mouth opened in a sharp retort before he could stop it. “No, it was a croc. Nice fellow too.” He shook his body, the muddy water flying everywhere around him. Instantly as he looked at her condition the leopard regretted his sharp tone and nodded, “We should.” Slowly, with a slight limp, Kamau walked around her, “If you can walk then I know a place nearby where the waters shouldn’t reach.” With that he started moving forward, only pausing to check to see if she was following him.

Ayoka wanted to be annoyed but found herself gasping out a laugh at the males dry witted crack about a crocodile. "I see well I will have to thank him then." And winced as some of the mud was flung in her direction. She eyed the other male taking in the other injury with concern. " I think I am alright, nothing feels broken." Getting up was slow going as some aches made themselves known especially her head. Once fully up she nearly went down again at the dizzy sensation, but she nipped that in the bud. No time to be a damsel in distress, time for action and finding safety.
"You can lean on me to support your leg if you want." Ayoka edged closer incase and followed his lead. "Sounds like a smashing idea." Few moments later they had arrived and Ayoka sighed happily when the rain had ceased pelting her body. "Thank goodness." She mumured tiredly while looking around. "Let's have a look see at that leg of yours, if there is a cut we have to deal with it so it won't get infected."

Kamau actually lifted an eyebrow at her response to his comment. So she had a sense of humor even in this type of situation. That was…interesting. The leopard was relieved to hear that she was alright. That meant that they could move out of the rain without having to carry each other. He didn’t know how well he could have supported her at the moment. The ache in his leg kept reminding him of that. He did, however, bounce forward in concern as for a second it appeared like she was going to fall again. But then she moved and he felt fine with moving forward again.
“No.” His response was immediate, “I don’t need the help.” Though honestly it would have been a relief to take the pressure from his leg, but it just wasn’t like him to accept help. He was too stubborn and proud for that. Ducking into the small den after her the leopard nodded before registering what she had said. “It’s really fine.” He scooted around her and sat down against the wall with the ceiling pressed against his back, “I just won’t walk on it anymore tonight.” Though he did wonder…had he actually cut it open in the water? That would explain the stinging. But he really didn’t want her fussing over him so the leopard just sat down on the pain.

Ayoka raised her eyebrow while thinking, ' What a stubborn male.' After that thought she looked covertly to see he did indeed have a cut. Not as big as she had thought but did require cleaning. It must have been caused by a stray branch or jagged rock in the water. Luckily for him she knew of some plants that could be used to heal said cut. She was about to open her mouth when a stray breeze came into their little hide away. "Brrrr," She shudder and edged in closer. "Nasty cold front that is and by the sounds of it the storm is in full swing now. Looks like we will have to stay here for a while. Hopeful we can find something to warm ourselves and find a plant I need."
Ayoka let her pink eyes wander over her wetrangled recuser knowing she looked probably just as worse for ware. Though he looked a bit rough, there was a certain charm about him that made her sit up and take notice. His spots were quite lovely. "I will be right back," She spoke calmly, her voice as she had been often told soothing, softly informing him of what she planned to do. " I am just going to have a look see around her to see if I can find us anything that would benefit our tired and cold bodies. Oh, I'm Ayoka by the way. I wish we could have met under better circumstances."

Kamau just watched the female warily. He wasn’t like his half-brother who would have easily slipped into the situation with such a lovely female like this. Instead he found himself flabbergasted by her actions. Why was she getting closer to him? Certainly both of them were still soaked from the river, but was it absolutely necessary to get so close to him? Kamau sighed, but made no move. He was actually pressed against the wall already and did not have enough energy to really protest. But it certainly didn’t mean that he appreciated it! Not that she wasn’t pretty or anything… it was just weird.
His thoughts were only broken by her comment about a plant. “How can you find a plant while this is going on outside?” His voice wasn’t loud, but stern. “Do you want to get lost out there and thrown into the river again?” The leopard’s gaze flashed, seemingly radiating annoyance yet there was some humor in his expression. “I really don’t feel much up for another swim today myself.” He had to admit that while he found her voice soothing the memory of Nia’s own tactics made him alert. No way was he letting her out there by herself. Not when the storm could become much worse. “Well Ayoka. I’m Kamau and I’m also not letting you back out until the sky clears. If you need a plant tell me what it is and I can go look for it myself.” Wincing he made to move past her.

Okay now she was getting a little bit annoyed by the males attitude. She flicked her tail a little in agitation. "No, I am perfectly fine with finding it myself without getting lost." She stared blankly at Kamau. "So please sit down Kamau before you damage yourself further. The plant should be around here somewhere in this cave as it likes dank and a somewhat cool atmosphere to grow." She had survived this long after all. She sighed in exasperation and she her head with amusement. A female falls into the water and its on her record for the rest of her life.
She was gone but a moment later she was back with a few plant leaves in her mouth. "There." She spoke the moment she had placed the plant down nearest to him and eyed the other leopard as she moved to the other side of the cave. He certainly was a prickly fellow with space issues. She had noticed everytime she got closer to him, the more he tensed up. " I found enough for the both of us, it is very good on cleaning wounds." She moved away from him as he clearly did not want her around his space, and curled up into a ball to keep warm. She watched out of the corner of her eyes as she applied the leaf to her cut to see what the male would do.

Kamau shook his head. What was up with his luck about finding these types of females? Weren't females supposed to be timid, gentle creatures? The thought amused him. He knew better. His whole family, definitely his mother included, was full of a bunch of unique females. But that was fine. Kamau admired this Ayoka's attitude.
Still he didn't like feeling weak. He wasn't that damaged....sure it stung a bit but still. The leopard flinched as he moved to check on the wound. Okay it hurt but it was not the worst. But it definitely wasn't the best scratch he had recieved either. Yet the plant was in the cave according to her so he stopped his protests. Had she tried going outside he may have not stopped her, but he would have followed.
No matter how aggravated he was he wouldn't let anyone go out alone into this type of weather. As she dropped off the plant he stared after her. She was giving him space? Well this was new to him. Though admittedly it was colder now that her warmth was gone. "Thanks." The word slipped out from his mouth before he bent down to work the plant on his wound. He was stubborn, but no fool. If she had already given it to him then he would use it.
Silent the leopard barely flinched as the plant stung his leg. Spitting out the taste Kamau stretched and laid down on the cold floor. Slowly his gaze went back to the leopardess. Wouldn't she get cold by herself over there?

She blinked in surprise at the simple thank you and then a warm smile spread across her face. " You are very welcome." Maybe there was more to this male than she thought. Her eyes were slowly falling not only was she tired but she was a bit sore from what had happened to her earlier. A stray breeze came just then and ruffled her fur which made her shiver slightly. She curled around herself tighter. "I love thunderstorms... well when I am safe I do. I enjoy watching the show of the lights and the rumbling of thunder. Hopefully this place we are in won't flood out." She spoke aloud to herself not really expecting an answer. It was more to fill the silence.
Wiggling down into the earth she lowered her head and sighed softly. "Thank you for saving me." She murmured softly and snuffled slightly as she started to dose off.

"Mmm." Kamau let out a soft sigh as he watched the leopardess. As much as he was traumatized by family members the male was starting to feel the cold himself. His fur was still damp from the cold water and he was certain that her pelt was the same. Sheesh! Why out of all things did he have to go out today and get in this type of situation? If his brothers ever found out....or worse if Nia...
Well it wasn't like he could back out now.
Blinking in surprise Kamau realized that she was speaking to him. "Ah." He gave a soft reply and actually had a hint of a smile. He enjoyed storms as well especially when his mother used to take them out and dance in the rain for fun. But that was a long time ago. He would never dare show that side again.Watching her doze off Kamau felt a little stir of something, maybe surprise, at being thanked. That was rare. Still as he watched her sleeping form the male moved. Silently and gently he laid down and pressed his back against her's. Maybe now she would be as cold. Hopefully.

Shivering Ayoka began to wish she had stayed in her previous home, but then a sound broke her muggy thoughts. She felt a warm spreading to her right side and she found herself sighing happily aloud. A few sleepily shuffles along with one good nuzzle Ayoka found comfort and finally fell into a deeper more relaxed sleep. It felt nice to snuggle up to Kamau not only did he smell nice but he gave off this aura of protector. She would have to thank him properly in the morning, but until then she was more than content to lay in their hide away and listen to the rain.
END.
