[This takes place shortly after Fevered Dreams and before they join the Tuait'tekem.]

It was the middle of the night now, with a cresent moon high in the sky and stars lighting up the darkness and yet still Mana laid beside the wounded lion. He was her patient now and she would see him recovered. She looked over the muddy salve she had applied onto the said wounds every now and again to make sure that it was drying properly and there were no insects in it. A small sigh of relief passed her mouth as she looked him over. He seemed more...peaceful now that his cuts were tended to though he would still need to relax and not push himself lest the wounds reopen and worsen. All she could do now was hope that the fevers would not set in while he slept and claim him. The lioness moved a bit closer to the larger body at the though, unintentionally nuzzling his foreleg gently with her nose as a slight smile graced her maw at the sound of his breathing.

Taiga’s sleep was deep, but free of the nightmares of before. The dreams were short and fleeting though, the kind that were hard to remember upon waking, though a constant in them all always seemed to be a distant, pale lioness watching over him. It was in one such dream, just as he was managing to near the watchful form, that he awoke, a bit disappointed that he had been unable to get closer to the form. The sleep’s grasp on him lifted slowly. He was only faintly aware of another presence as his mind cleared, but once it had done so he came to find Mana at his side. His previous disappointment at having not been able to reach the dream lioness quickly faded, as he found he had her at his side in waking.

“Hello there.” A large yawn followed his greeting to the lady, followed still by his forelegs stretching a bit. A small tug at his fur caught his attention and his gaze fell upon the mud on his legs that had dried, and as it started to chip and come lose was holding lightly to some of his fur. It was then he realised that he felt a lot better than he had earlier. The pains in his body had nearly all subsided.

Mana’s eyes had just begun to slide closed from her own need for sleep from watching over him when Taiga greeted her. Her mouth stretched, yawning, “Hello to you too.” She replied with own greeting, looking his legs over as the lion stretched. “Now don’t overdue yourself. You’re still not healed completely. You should wait at least a few more days before doing much more than resting.” Worry began to fill her mind. If he pushed himself and the wounds to reopen, she was not sure if she could help him again as the sprig she had used was her last of that kind and it had taken her so long to find it.

Taiga gingerly pulled himself to his feet, trying to keep as much weight off his front legs as he could at first. “I’ll be careful.” Gradually he shifted his weight forward, testing the forelimbs to see how they felt. They were a bit weak, but felt much better after Mana’s treatment. After a moment he took a step forward, feeling the mud on his back chip as he had before from his legs. “That medicine of yours is amazing, I feel better than before.” He stretched himself gently, feeling the mud crack further against the movement, and though there was a bit of pain he still felt fine. “That must be some sort of magic herb you mixed with the mud.”

The neutral expression on the pale lady’s face turned to that of worry and of almost that of frustration. “I told you not to do much more then rest. Now lay back down. You should not be moving yet.” Mana nearly growled the last bit, worried more for his well-being then she would let on at the time. “It was a rare herb and a special one that I found around my teacher’s home and also the last one I had. Now will you please lay down before you hurt yourself passed my help?”

Taiga knew he probably should listen to her, but he was a fighter, and fighters didn’t let such tiny wounds put them down. A grin spread across his face, he was so compelled to see just how well he felt. “I’ll be fine.” After flashing a quick grin towards Mana he took one slow step forward before kicking off in to a jog. He circled around the tree, and as he came back towards her he quickened his pace and headed towards the water, careful not to get too close lest he get caught in the mud. His wounds hurt slightly, but he felt great. It certainly must have been some sort of magical herb. As he came to the far side of the water, across it from Mana, he sped up once more in to a run, charging around the water’s edge. A sharp twinge of pain caused him to stumble, though he managed to keep his footing and not fall, though he did slow his pace. Panting lightly he trotted back to sit down beside Mana, feeling like a cub who has just won a race. “Better than ever, I could probably take down a whole pride of lions myself, thanks to your care.”

“You’re going to hurt yourself!” Mana called out to him as he jogged and ran around the area the two where in, frowning as her blue eyes never once left his form just in case something was to happen to him. It was almost cruel now. She was just trying to care for the lion and there he was prancing around despite her constant asking for him to be careful. This time Mana made no attempt hide the growl that made it’s way out and out of her throat as she made her turn to pounce onto the larger lion, attempting to knock him to the ground to prove just how wrong he was about his own condition.

The lioness’s actions took him quite off guard, and he had little time to dodge or brace himself in his surprise. the smaller form connected with his own, sending him tumbling sideways on to the ground. Hitting the ground caused pain to shoot through the wounds in his back, as well as dried mud falling loose. He regained quickly from his shock and pulled himself away from her and rolled on to his stomach. “What was that for?” He growled, watching her closely.

“If you can’t even prevent me from doing that, then you’re not suited to leave my care just yet, let alone attempt to take on a pride of lions by yourself.” Mana stated firmly, her eyes narrowed at him, each word growing more and more stern as she spoke. At first she was more joking but now, now her frustration was growing in near anger. She huffed, laying back underneath their tree, tail flicking the spot beside her. “Now, back to resting. You’re not fit to do anything other than that. Doctor’s order.”

Taiga huffed loudly, but made no arguments otherwise. He pulled himself back to his feet and moved sluggishly back to where he had been laying before, laying back down heavily. He gave another huff before stretching out on the ground, pouting silently at having been knocked over by a little lioness. “Fine I’ll rest, but no more than a couple days. I don’t like staying here too long.”Taiga would listen for now, but he was not keen to sit by idly for too long. Even now he still felt the urge to be moving, doing something, but tried to ignore it as best he could.
