It was so hot today...too hot too move. Good thing Prism had managed to stumble upon this peaceful little pond that had cool clear water and plenty of shade to lounge about in. It was so nice here, that he might just stay here for some time. Besides it had everything he needed, grass to eat, water to drink, shade from the heat, and plenty of shelter to sleep in. Yup life couldn't get much better than this. It was a shame Spectrum had left a while ago, but Prism supposed the wolf couldn't exactly eat the grass and therefore had left to go hunt himself up a meal. Surely he wouldn't be gone long as that would use up a bunch of his energy.
Speaking of using energy Prism shuffled his hooves and laid down at the edge of the water. Ah that was better, the cool water should keep the heat at bay and this particular part of the pond was nicely shaded by several large oak trees. Letting out a content sigh Prism closed his eyes and just relaxed while waiting for Spectrum to return.

Stupid mare, she didn't believe that he could take over his own territory and fend off the larger breeds of this land. Well he would show her alright. He had traveled for days now looking for a place to call his own. This land lacked in lots of areas that seemed good to him, he not only needed water but grass to eat and shade to keep cool in as well prevent his skin from drying out too quickly. This was a larger task that he had first expected, would help that he knew the lay of these lands. But no he was walking blind and it would all boil down to luck.
Worse part was it was blood damn hot today and he could feel his skin drying out already. Blast he needed to find water and soon. Cutting through the trees Dendro could at least seek out some shade to slow down the drying process that was plaguing his skin. Of course he didn't expect to stumble upon a perfect little pond hidden away in a clearing. Or it was nearly perfect at least. One thing had to be taken care of first and that was the stallion lounging at the waters edge. He didn't look to be an aquatic species like the one he had run into after first coming to these lands so it should be simple enough to get him to leave and then the pond could be Dendro's to claim. Walking up to where the stallion was Dendro snorted, why his eyes were closed, was he asleep or something?

Eyes cracked open at the sound of something approaching. "It's about time..." He started to say before realizing it wasn't Spectrum returning from his hunt. Oh well. Lifting his head to look at the approaching Soquili Prism took the appearance of the other. Well he looked a bit like a Kelpie and yet at the same time not at all like a Kelpie. It didn't look to be like a Kelpie foal, he had the look of a really small adult. Maybe a half breed? Well Prism didn't really care for the details too much, this little stallion didn't look all that threatening, which was good since Prism really didn't feel like moving at this moment.
"Sorry, thought you were someone else." Lowering his head back onto the bank Prism was ready to relax again, if this other stallion wanted to talk then they could do so while relaxing.

It's about time? What the hell was this stallion talking about. Turning his good ear towards the stallion Dendro cocked his brow. Well whatever he was mumbling about it didn't matter, time to claim this pond and it's surrounding land in his name. "This is my home and you are intruding upon it." He said in an unfriendly tone. "Now get out before I must force you to do so." The other stallion looked to be lazy enough that it shouldn't be that easy to intimidate, however moving him if he refuses to do so would be a much bigger task.
Dendro took a few more steps forward coming to a stop right in front of the stallions head. Finned tail swished behind him. More than anything Dendro just wanted to slip into the water and cool him down and moisturize his skin but first he needed to deal with this stallion. "Now hurry up, I won't stand for intruders." Ha, he would certainly make this pond his own and then he would show that no good Putti mare Okelani that he could survive out here on his own even with his destroyed hearing.

His head lifted up a bit as the other spoke. Oh so this was his pond, odd he hadn't caught any scent of anyone when he had first arrived. Of course Prism didn't always pay attention to such things when seeking out a place to rest. Oh he kept his eyes open for any threats of Kalona's or Skinwalekr's, but for the most part if a place looked nice he would go for it without much thought. "Oh, sorry, didn't realize this was someones home." There was a slight shrug of his shoulders to indicate he really didn't care too much.
"Look," he began laying his chin down on the ground. "It's hot, so let me stay here long enough to cool down and then I will be on my way. I mean you no harm." The last part was probably obvious given his actions, or lack there of, so far. All he wanted to do was stick around long enough that he was no longer suffering from the heat before even considering using energy to get out of here.

Blast. This stallion wasn't going to move was he? It would take a huge amount of effort to try and physically more him out of this place. Letting out a sigh Dendro was left at a standstill. He really was left with only one choice and that was to let the stallion stick around for a short time. "Fine...but I will let you know I do not accept intruders on my land, do not make this same mistake twice." Not like this was yet his home, but other than this single stallion there was no one here to challenge him for this spot.
He wouldn't wait any longer, he needed to get into that water. Stepping around the stallion Dendro slipped into the water letting out a content sigh as the moisture splashed upon his parched skin. After dipping her head underneath the surface he turned his attention back to the other stallion. "So just who are you anyways?" He had been so focused on claiming this land as his own that he had failed to ask for the stallions name.

Prism let a smile grace his lips as the smaller stallion agreed to let him stay for a bit longer. He was grateful for that, this cool water was much more inviting and pleasant to be in that the heat and humidity that awaited him out there. Really he hoped it would start to cool off soon, Prism hated summer, it was far too hot and the rain, while refreshing, didn't occur enough to his liking. Of course he also hated winter, but only because it was so bloody cold that he was forced to keep moving just to avoid freezing to deal. If he could find someplace where it was fall all year round then he would be one happy stallion.
His eyes had drooped to nearly closed by the time the other had entered the water. His question was what kept from from sleeping into a light sleep. "Oh, I'm Prism and in case you are wondering I'm a Cerynei. Can I ask what species you are. Haven't seen anything like you before, well I have but I don't think you are a Kelpie."

Dendro took a few moments to enjoy the feel of the water on his skin. Oh he had so badly needed a soak and now he never wanted to get out of this water. This would be his new permanent home, he would live his own life and didn't need no silly mare or herd to tell him what to do or how to live. Of course he still had to deal with the other stallion but for the moment neither of them seemed to be in the mood to do much than wait out the days heat. Hopefully when it started to cool off in the evening the other would take his leave. No, not hopefully, he better of Dendro would darn well do something about it.
After dipping his head under water Dendro surfaced again and looked over at the larger male. A Cerynei huh? He had heard of them but this would be the first time actually seeing one since arriving in the new lands. "Dendro." He finally relinquished his name. I'm a Nixie." There info had been exchanged and they should both be happy.

He watched from the corner of his eye as Dendro dipped under the water. Yup, definitely an aquatic breed even if his fins hadn't been the first clue. Much as Prism enjoyed laying in the water he couldn't stand getting his face wet. He supposed it was because his kind weren't exactly meant to do such things, they were land dwellers and water was to drink not to swim and submerge oneself in. Nope give him a nice shady spot and Prism was more than happy most days. Ah life, it was great.
"Nixie." Prism repeated the word, rolling it around his tongue. And interesting name enough and from the looks of Dendro he figured it meant some kind of Usdia type Kelpie. "Well Dendro," he said with a lazy yawn before setting his head back down on the edge of the pond. "You got yourself a nice place here." Even if he was considered an intruder at this point Prism couldn't help but state the facts, why if this little grove hadn't already been claimed by Dendro then he might have just stuck around here for a while longer since it had everything he could ever need.

For a moment Dendro thought that Prism would ask just what a Nixie was. He really hated answering that question. Couldn't others figure things out just by looking at him. Yes, he looked like a Kelpie, no he was not a Kelpie, yes he was small like an Usida, but no he wasn't an actual Usdia. It was a simple case of lack of observation on the others behalf that made encountering new faces so frustrating. But then the stallion remained quiet, obviously Prism, while lazy, was a smart stallion and could figure things out on his own. Now that he thought about it, he kind of liked the stallion because of that. H was a no nonsense type, and Dendro could appreciate that.
A small chuckle escaped him. "It is pretty nice again it." Oh he would need to fiercely guard it from any would be intruders now that he had found it. Those silly herd members would faint if they heard about the amazing spot he had acquired for himself.

Spectrum came into the grove at a slow trot, tongue hanging out the side of his mouth. The wolf had been surprised to hear not only Prism's voice but that of another as he neared the clearing. There was no hint of danger but he went to investigate anyways. Plus he was done hunting for the day and Prism would be waiting for his return. As he come out from between the trees he spotted Prism in the same spot the stallion had been when he left and another smaller stallion in the water. "Prism." He called out in a bark before padding a bit closer, but remained in the shady part of the clearing.
Prism let out a light laugh. Boy Dendro was one lucky stallion to have taken this small chunk of paradise as his own. Maybe, just maybe Prism would find a similar spot to call his own, but he would certain not be able to fight to keep it. So it would need to be somewhere very secluded so as to avoid others stumbling upon it. Then he could stay put and not have to travel to see to his needs. Though slits of eyes he watched Spectrum come out through the trees. "Ah there you are." Well darn, this meant he would have to leave now.
With a very, very heavy sigh Prism mustered up the energy and will power needed to climb out of the water. A few quick steps and he was out of the water and into shade. He didn't bother to shake the water off, for it would keep him cool for a few minutes longer before the heat would evaporate it off. "Well, I best get going. Nice to meet you Dendro." Giving the other stallion a small nod Prism turned and began to walk off. "Come on Spectrum." Slowly, very slowly, he began to walk out of the clearing, they would need to find a new place to wait out the rest of the heat, hopefully something could be found close by.

Dendro looked up as another voice broke through the silence. Another intruder? Turning his head his eyes landed on a small wolf, whose overall colors reminded him of Prism very much. And judging by the stallions reaction this was the one he had been waiting for when Dendro first arrived. Dendro watched, with almost amazement as Prism actually got up. He hadn't honestly expected the stallion to bother with exerting any energy just yet. Now that he was out of the water Dendro could get a better look at him. He was large as most breeds of this land were, the hooves were interesting enough looking, but he found the short fluffy tail somewhat amusing.
As wolf and stallion began to make their way out of the clearing Dendro thought for a moment and then called out. "You too. Feel free to come back anytime. " It was not an invitation he would so openly and easily extend to others, but this was the start of his new life and Prism had been laid back enough that he wouldn't mind so much to meet him again. As the two disappeared from view between the trees Dendro dipped below the surface, ready to explore his new home completely and grab a snack of water plants while he was at it.
