Lucy attempts to write a full-length novel
A Journal

So, basically, after four or five attempts at a proper novel and even worse attempts at short stories, I decided to write a novel.

BUT - instead of doing what I always do, which is get a few scattered scenes and an awesome quote or two, start writing and then give up, I sat down and planned.

And alas, Storytime was born.

'And then, standing a few steps down the street, was The Devil himself. Sadie froze, but did not lower her scythe.
"Sadie," he said, noticing the scythe, "I notice you have come to kill me."
"Of course not," she replied, now lowering the weapon, "How could I kill one I admire?"'

What's Storytime? I hear you cry.

In the basics of basic plots:
Aged 10, a little girl named Sadie runs away from home. This is the year 1916 .
In 1930, another little girl named Sadie runs away.
In 1948, yet another little 10 year old girl named Sadie runs away.
And in 1959, and 1976, and 1991.
And in 2006, Sadie hangs in a coma, aged 6. She lives now in a land with Murray, also known as Death.
But now, their world has fallen apart, and they both must face the world.

I start this journal with all my planning done, and the first drafts of the first two chapters of Part One completed.

I end a progress-lacking day with about 200 words done for Pt. Three, Chapter 11.

I haven't actually done much since last Friday - oops.

I've just been so tired recently, I couldn't concentrate enough to get anything more than 91 words done.

HOWEVER in the past few days I added another chapter in my planning to Part Three.

I've decided to throw in the towel, if only for a couple of weeks. I figure I need to leave it, do other stuff, and come back to it and see how I can continue on.

Also, I start school again in two weeks, so maybe if I go back to a routined day I can start a decent writing routine I'll get more done, although I shouldn't be too hopeful, I start my GCSE's too.

This'll probably become an average journal, although knowing me, it'll be full of posts saying "I added more to my planning!1!!!1!!!!"

After two days of no internet access and little to do [I stayed at my grandmother's house], I managed to get 2k words done! Although it was actually all today, but still.

I got through Pt. 1, Ch. 3, which was a crucial plot point and I had been stuck on for a week. Also, I'm about a sentence away from finishing Pt. 3, Ch. 11, which is kinda awesome.

With the exception of Pt. 1, Ch. 3 [which really didn't have enough plot to it, and I should've merged it with Pt. 1, Ch. 5, but oh well], all of my completed chapters have been twice about as long as I have been expecting. So I revised my hopeful finishing total from 47k [1k per chapter] to 75k [about 1,500 words a chapter on average]

I know it's a bit silly to have a finishing total when I've only done four of the 47 chapters I expect to do, but it's something to aim for, right?

[ALSO I've decided after this to change the format of how I mark out chapters. Instead of Pt. 1, Ch. 3, for example, it'll now be p1c3.]

Just over 600 words today, and that includes editing p1c3, finishing off p3c11 and almost finishing p1c4

If I can keep this going I might be looking at the first draft of a finished manuscript this time next year!

Only 31 words today, to the end of p1c4. I can't really be bothered to start p1c5 or even start a random chapter of p3 [I knew it was going to be a confusing part, so I made sure they could all be mostly stand-alone chapters. Most of the reason why it is so confusing I guess!]

350 words today, in p1ch6. I also typed up my edits of p3ch11.

I also rechecked my current word total, and I passed the 10k mark!

I wanted to get something done today, but couldn't because I've been on the train all day. Hoping to get something done tomorrow!

When did I post last? Anyway, so far I've got the first six chapters done, but the seventh is just... impossible.

Too tired for anything tonight, *sigh*
