xxxFor the first time since Anemone had arrived at Sidekick Academy, she felt her worries melt away and panic slowly subside
into nothingness. As soon as she had entered SA's giant library and the scent of old paper hit her in the face, Anemone felt like
she was home. She wandered around on wobbly legs for a few minutes, quickly taking in as much about the library as possible.
There were so many books; not even her mother's library could compare, which was saying something. Fingers trailing on the
dusty spines of some encyclopedias, a genuine smile spread over the girl's pale face. Anemone even felt uncomfortable in her
own dorm room, but here? This would be her special place!

xxxPulling a dusty book about fire based powers off the shelf, Anemone blew a short puff of air at it's cover. A cloud of dust
rose in her face, causing her to gag and cough. Collecting herself, Anemone scurried over to a nearby windowed alcove, sitting
lightly in a pile of musky, maroon pillows. Some parts of the areas of the library seemed used, like all the books needed for
classes were all somewhat together. Where Anemone had wandered off to, however, looked dustier, more untouched... did no
one really bother to come to the library? Or was it just empty because it was so early in the school year?

xxxAnemone opened her book, spine creaking with defiance. Oh well- either way this seemed like a nice spot to curl up and
relax. Flipping through the first few blank pages, the girl sunk deeper into the dusty pillows and began to read.

It hardly seemed fair to call this room a school library. The walls of shelves towered over Dani, full from floor to ceiling. For as far as she could see there were just books, books, and more books. It was an absolute dream. The redhead tucked a stray hair back behind her ear and grinned. She wasn’t exactly a bookish person, but any library with the nerve to be this big must be hiding at least one interesting secret.

Almost all the fantasy novels she read back home started with the heroine finding some secret manuscript or another in some huge, dusty library like this one. Not that she was expect to be granted magical powers and be charged with a sacred mission to save the world because… well, she was already doing that wasn’t she? But it would be fun to find something she wasn’t supposed to know (or at least something she didn’t already know, that would occupy a few idle hours to learn about).

Danica wandered the isles of the library, trying to find her way to the dustiest and most unused parts. When she found a row of shelves she thought looked sufficiently abandoned, she picked the oldest, most curious looking volume out of the bunch and carefully blew the top layer of dust off its cover. It was a heavy leather bound book, with inlaid gold lettering and yellowing pages. The girl smiled, this would do nicely.

When she turned around to find somewhere to sit and read her new treasure Dani discovered that she was not, in fact, alone, as she had originally thought. Sitting on one of the cushy looking window alcoves was a girl. She looked about Danica’s age, maybe a bit older, with pale skin, pale hair, and pale eyes hidden behind a pair of dark rimmed glasses. Really, with all the dust covering the pillows she was sitting on, she almost blended in. It was no wonder that Danica hadn’t seen her immediately, although that was more likely due to her own silly occupation.

Dani blinked, then smiled. “Oh, hello, I didn’t see you there.”

xxx“Oh, hello, I didn’t see you there.”

xxxAnemone's head snapped up as a female voice startled her. Wincing at the sharp pain of whiplash in her neck, the girl clung
to her tome in alarm as she studied the other student silently. She hadn't noticed the redhead at all; Ane had been to absorbed
in her book. By the looks of her, she was another student. Judging by her age and the matching look of wonder and excitement,
she was likely a new student too. Anemone politely closed her book with a light thud as the heavy pages hit one another, and
adjusted her skirt daintily.

xxx"Hello." She greeted Dani simply, not quite sure how to address the girl. Anemone eyed the heavy tome in her arms- was
she an avid reader, too? Perhaps not everyone in this school was fated to unintentionally terrify and terrorize her- of
course there would be like minded individuals in such a large academy.

xxx"I'm Anemone." Once again neglecting to use her alias, the girl sat awkwardly in her little alcove. She should try to make
friends, right? After all, she had yet to meet someone who hadn't half dragged her around campus or given her an onslaught
of panic attacks.
"What's your name?"

Taking the girls amiable tone as a cue, Danica found one of the cushy sofa near the alcove and plunked down on it. She curled her legs up underneath her and leaned on the arm of the chair. “Nice to meet you, my name is Danica. You can call me Dani if you like.”

The library was so entirely silent that even their quiet voices seemed inappropriately loud. It was just so big. There had to be something on every subject imaginable; which was a good thing, the redhead mused, as going to the main island every time you needed to do a project would get very old, very fast. The girl in front of her seemed the kind of girl who could really appreciate a place like this. It wasn’t just her typically-academic appearance that made Dani think that – although it probably helped – but something in the way she was holding the book in her hands and eyeing the one in Dani’s. “This library is really something, huh?”

xxx Anemone continued to clutch her book to her chest almost dramatically, watching the red head careful. Dani, huh? She
supposed that wasn't her hero alias. The girl's frail shoulders dropped slightly as she loosened some. Well, at least she didn't feel
weird about that anymore, other people were using their real names still too!

xxx Nodding in agreement, Anemone adverted her eyes away from the girl to stare off at some shelf of books. So maybe it
wasn't some sort of secret, forgotten part of the library after all. She couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed, but it had been a
foolish thought to begin with.
"It's quite large," Anemone commented, pale gaze returning to Danica. "It feels like someone could
legitimately get lost in here..."

Danica grinned conspiratorially at Anemone. “It feels like some ancient, lost place doesn’t it? All the dust on the books, and the maze the shelves are set up in? I almost imagine I'm some sort of explorer, investigating a long-forgotten tomb.”

She lifted the book in her hands up for closer examination and carefully brushed away the dust with her fingers. After a little careful work the gold inlayed writing became legible.A Record and History of Pyromancers and Fire Mages During the Bronze Age and Their Effect on Pre-Roman Civilization, As Documented by Galvin of the Gray Forge Hills, Translated by Amelia Coast. That wasn’t a mouthful or anything. But it certainly did sound interesting. She looked up at the older girl and glanced at the dusty old book in her hands. “What have you got?”

xxx "Mmm." Was Anemone's simple reply to Dani's marveling. She was right, about the library feeling ancient- but wasn't the
Academy relatively new? How did that even make sense? It was hard to believe the library had so little upkeep... She surveyed
the immediate area once more; something did seem almost surreal about the room, although it was hard to place. She wondered
if they made the library like that on purpose... was perhaps it intentionally made to appear so old? Ane didn't know and she
supposed it was a waste of time to linger on it, but she couldn't help but be curious.

xxxAnemone's attention snapped to Dani as she read her book's title outloud. Why did that sound familiar? "O-oh," Anemone
stammered, glancing down at the large book she was clutching to.
"A Record and History of Pyromancers and Fire Mages During
the Bronze Age and Their Effect on Pre-Roman Civilization, As Documented by Galvin of the Gray Forge Hills, Translated by Amelia
Coast,"
She repeated, reading the inlayed lettering on her matching book. "Volume 2." Anemone added,
finger trailing on the spine of the book. The first one hadn't been with the rest, and she instead had opted for the second. Her eyes
darted to the book in Dani's arms. The first?

xxx"It sounded interesting," She laughed awkwardly, shrugging her thin shoulders. "I guess I never really thought about people
like us being around so long ago."
People like Dani, probably and anyways. Anemone's powers were a child of science, not
something more divine or hereditary. She couldn't help but wonder what Dani's abilities were; perhaps fire based? Was it rude to
ask? Anemone silently pondered to herself, glancing out the stained glass window.
