Amrita was excited, and nervous, and scared and elated and every other clashing phrase there could possibly be that essentially meant the same thing. She had recently recieved word, since she wanted to watch the body being built, that it was time, and that on it's own was ominous even without the vast potential for failure (on her end only, mind). The small ghoul had then decided to take it upon herself to inform the other two scarelings in their little group. Which explained the phone call to Riley that was a little more than a series of nervously excited squeaks with barely any distinguishable words, and the visit to Christof which pretty much only consisted of her staring up at him with a big gray eye, doing all of her talking in her head until she accidentally said something along the lines of 'Advanced Hob Laboratory' and 'body'. At least she remembered that phoning him would be useless.

Hopefully, Malodore would have called them on it's own, as she was severely less than helpful.

When the time really did come Amrita made her way down to the Labs to meet with the other three, her little arms wrapped around her little person, clutching a bundle of fabric tightly to her chest. Today was the day, or was it night? She couldn't remember. It was a something, that was for sure. Today, she had to get out of the body she'd been trapped in. Today, she had to possess a larger, better formed body...she was excited, and she was terrified.

"Wh-what if something goes wrong?" She murmured out loud, feeling as awkward as she did during her brief stint in Riley's body.

Malodore was, of course, already in the labs. The plague doctor was utterly enamored by having a proper scientific laboratory at its disposal. It would have been tempted to move in if there hadn't been a supervisory gnome perched on a metal stool in one corner. The thing was surly and silent and just grunted whenever Malodore tried to address him. He was just there to watch, apparently, and possibly to alert someone if they accidentally destroyed the universe.

But, gnome aside, the set-up was absolutely beautiful. There were proper tools, much sharper and keener than the instruments Malodore had been using in accordance with the school rules. There was a simply marvelous slab, wonderfully chilled and perfectly level. There were even several sets of lenses on extendable arms that came down from the ceiling - sure, they recoiled and made rude gestures if pulled too hard, but they magnified things with brilliant clarity.

Oh yes. Malodore was a happy, happy plague doctor.

It was perched on a second metal stool, slab-side, whipping a line of stitches to connect two pieces of meat. Not Amrita's body, not yet; the Parts were Christof's job. However, the assembly thereof was all Malodore, and it was determined to use the best possible thread and stitch to make the body durable and aesthetically pleasing. When it was done, it snapped off the thread with its beak and tied the knot deftly, then pulled on the two pieces of meat to see how the stitches reacted to stress.

Marvelous.

"Christof! Bring me the Parts!" it called out, practically giddy.

The gnome raised a hairy eyebrow.

.... Right. Christof. It knew it had forgotten something.

The hunchback in question had received the text message that morning and, in a jumble of emotions had quickly gathered his wagon and made his way to the school freezers.

For a good half hour he had debated pretending he had lost the carefully packaged parts. But no, Amrita had just seen them the other day, and even the flaky little ghoul would know he was up to something if he showed up empty handed.

And besides... this was it. This was The Project. Once this was done... well. Mistress had no reason to put up with him anymore save for what worth she saw in their relationship. Even so, his stomach churned, and he impulsively kept rubbing the red mark under his shirt with that spare arm he kept so carefully hidden.

No. The only thing to do was to do his best and hope for the best. The alternative would be unthinkable.

He had just heard the Plague Doctor's call echo down the hallway as he approached the laboratory, and as he peeked through the doorway, he was left breathless.

It reminded him of home. The closest he had experienced to this sort of set up had been Barth's home-made lab in his room, and even that, fully equipped by rich-boy toys, paled in comparison to this work space.

"Hurnnn..." He murmured to announce his presence, meekly hauling the heavy load of boxes of defrosting parts behind him. They were all carefully prepped with his own special concoction of Patchwork Preservatives, and he was confident in his ability to choose The Best Parts. Malodore would be pleased. He hoped.

There was no sign of Mistress yet, but he was somewhat thankful. It would give him some time to swallow down the butterflies attempting to erupt out of him like a horrible plague.

Amrita shuffled into the room on Christof's trail, following quietly and meekly behind him. She hadn't the slightest idea as to why she was being sneaky, but she was. She had been invited, even! It was her new body, after all. Once inside she found a student chair, taking a seat and looking around, her knees brought up to her chest and the bundle of fabric still held securely in her little arms.

There was Malodore, being all Doctor-y with his meat slabs, Christof with her parts, a Gnome Supervisor---wait, gnome supervisor?! Hyde didn't say they needed one! She frowned at the little beast, wondering how it even got inside here. Oh well, as long as it didn't interfere. Wait...someone was missing!

"...W-Where's Riley...?" Oh Jack, Where was Riley?! She didn't think she could do this without Riley! Aaaaaaaa~~~

Ah! Malodore rose from the stool as Christof came in, closely followed by Amrita. "Buon giorno Christof, Amrita. I believe all is in readiness?" It surveyed the patchwork's morbid burden with every sign of enjoyment. "Do lay them out, Christof. I assume you have helped with the selection?" it added, turning to Amrita.

And then she stammered Riley's name, and Malodore tilted its head to one side. Right. Yes. Riley. Riley had... said she would be there. And she wasn't here. Very odd, for her. "Ah, yes, ah... I'm sure... she'll be here very soon," Malodore said, trying to pretend like it hadn't forgotten its own ghoulfriend in the wondrous adrenaline rush of Science.

Turning to give a meek smile to Amrita in greeting, the hunchback paused over the boxes to timidly gesture, "Sent-text-message." After the fiasco over the Lepus, even if he was anxious he had made sure Riley knew. She probably had a good reason for not being there... Even so, he shifted nervously, hands trembling as he pulled open the Tater-rot boxes to reverently begin setting out all of the Parts in the proper order, or as close to it as he could surmise.

"Good~" Amrita let out a heavy sigh, her little shoulders slumping forward. Whew! The Demoness was only late, that was good. She didn't think she could handle Riley not being there! The pile of fabric was set aside and the small ghoul took the chair she was sitting on, shuffling it forward to get a better view of what was happening. She had time she supposed, to watch Christof lay out the parts at least! Though she was very curious as to how Malodore would put them together...how long would it take? Would it be easy? SO MANY QUESTIOOONSSSSS but for the sake of keeping the Doctor focused, she stayed very quiet and attempted to keep out of the way.

Attempted of course, since eventually she did move onto her knees to try and see it better, her backwards hands - even the broken one - clutching the back piece to the chair. All those parts! No rot on them! A torso that was actually closed, or would be, she assumed.

The terror was fading away, and now the little ghoul couldn't stop grinning in excitement.

"I am quite certain she will be here soon - at any rate, we must complete the assembly first before you, ah, move in. So there is no rush as of yet, si?" Malodore opened its beak in a smile, then pivoted to examine the Parts.

Ooh.

Christof had done an excellent job, it had to admit. The Parts were in proportion to each other and would fit together quite nicely. They were even fairly symmetrical, and had extremely similar skin tones. The aesthetics were important, of course. "Yes... yessss. Magnificent work, Christof." The plague doctor's mind raced. What should it assemble first? The innards, most likely; it walked over to the torso and studied it. "How complete is the organ structure, Christof? Will there be much internal work?"

Christof beamed at Malodore's compliments, straightening up (as much as he was able) proudly as he stalked over to start carefully, reverently unloading the boxes onto the slab as though assembling a jig-saw puzzle he had somehow memorized. He tapped the chest cavity, making a so-so gesture with his hand before hauling out a cooler with the particularly good parts and a smile, patting it excitedly before giving the plague doctor a thumbs-up.

Only the best for Miss Amrita. She deserved it for putting up with such a horrible little body for so long.

Oooo, organs! She didn't really have many of them, but her current chest cavity made for a wonderful hiding place. Briefly, she wondered where she would have to put her skelephone from now on; she probably wouldn't be able to store it between her rotten little lungs anymore. Hmm. Oh well, a mystery she could solve later. By herself. The little ghoul was content to watch for now, perching her chin excitedly in her hands, her elbows leaning against the back of the chair.

But as the time ticked by and Riley still hadn't shown up, Amrita was starting to worry; the dread was coming back.

Malodore nodded in approval; the patchwork really did have an excellent eye for such things! "Very nice, very nice," it murmured as it laid out everything it would need. It was quite glad it had ordered extra suture thread. "Well, then. Shall we begin?" It held out a second needle and thread in Christof's direction.
PostPosted: Sun Aug 21, 2011 2:18 pm

The hunchback blinked in surprise at the offer, glancing to Amrita a moment before shuffling forward. It... wanted him to help? With... putting her together? He shifted into a seat, a baffled and worried expression on his face before tentatively picking up a wrist and a hand. He accepted the needle and thread, staring at it for several moments before huddling down to work.

Above all else, he made sure the hands and feet faced the PROPER direction.

When Christof looked back at her she was sure to give him a smile and an awkward thumbs up before settling her chin back into her hands. She was incredibly interested the stitching; she'd be a patchwork soon, she really should learn some tips and tricks, just in case. It didn't take her long to notice that the hands and feet on her future body looked...really weird. Like, unnatural. What was...how...OH.

...

She should say something to him. She said something to Malodore about it once, she was pretty sure. Instead she bit her lip. Well...they'd probably twist back anyway, right? If not...err, hopefully she could get used to them.

Malodore caught Amrita's look, then followed her line of sight to the feet and hands of her new body-in-progress... ah. Given her earlier concerns and responses to its own suggestions, it thought it understood her unspoken concern. "I believe it is your own FEAR-power that twists the wrists and ankles," Malodore said in what it hoped was a reassuring tone. "If not, we can simply put you to sleep and make adjustments. Patchwork bodies are marvelously resilient."

... That was possibly not reassuring, but Malodore could occasionally be oblivious to such things.

Christof glanced up from his work, eyes darting from Amrita to Mal and back again as he pieced together what they could be talking about... with a snarl, he suddenly flailed, panic written all over his face as he signed quickly, hoping at least between the two of them they could piece together what he was trying to say:

"Must-be-built-properly! Point-to-experiment! Must-be-right! Been-wrong-so-long-can-fix-it-now! Maybe-starting-with-them-backwards, they-twist-forwards-properly??" Even through hand motions, his tone was desperate.
