Fallowing the directions she had heard in a rumor Blake raced along forest paths.Occasionally stopping to examine a bush or rocky out cropping for a moment before darting off in another direction.
"no no no come on." she growled then out of the corner of her eye she spotted it staring her right in the face.
"good grief that's a freaking cliff shaped like a lion not a boulder!" shaking her head in frustration she muttered to herself " I suppose that's what I get for taking  directions from gossip. Things do tend to get considerably jumbled."
Darting north she found a few more land marks. . . Well after she decoded the miss translations they were landmarks.
"I just hope they didn't screw up what the prize at the end of this Goose chase is supposed to be I swear if it's another waterfall I'm going to go mad."
Hours passed and when she felt it was time to just let it go as another lost cause she came to the last trail marker and the first real hint of truth.
"this has to be it." she whispered leaning in close too a type of flower she hadn't encountered in years. How many had it been since she had seen her beloved desert? To long to be certain.
Slowly as if savoring each step like a rare flavor she walked untill she reached a sheer cliff face with a small gap. The gap became wider the higher up it went so she would have to jump to get through. The blazing hot wind that that swept through the gap was all the coaxing she needed.
"little slice of home here I come." she shouted and charged the gap taking a powerful leap.
Her hooves met scalding hot soft sand upon landing so falling then to her knees she rolled down the sand dune. Tumbling joyously about like she had done as a filly.
Eventually she found her hooves not to mention her Composer  once more and stood up. Shaking the sand from her coat and clothing she looked about.
It's was much like a desert in a large bowl. High cliff sides encircling it, the sand blowing about the bottom creating dunes, and it even had a tiny spring in a sparsely shades corner way off in the distance to provide a sip of water if needed.
"perfect." she commented and started to trek about.

The desert had called out to him like a beacon deep underlying within the hot scorching sands he preferred as his original home. Much like a moth to the flame he returned from the green oasis to the never-ending stretch some called death but he called sanctuary. His massive legs sunk downward as the hot sand melted around him. Tossing his grand head the gold that adorned him chimed outward soon getting lost in the passing wind. His breath in took the scent of the desert as his lungs exhaled outward, "Ah but it is good to be home".

He closed his eyes as another breeze sneaked by carrying with it pebbles and particles of sand. His robes lifted as they playfully trailed in the breeze, once again causing his golden trinkets to move hypnotically within the breeze. To the noble it was simply another day in his homeland that which caused his sanctuary and endless thinking away from the joyous life that was lead in the greener oasis where he chose to stay when he first arrived.

His thoughts carried him as he walked in the deep sandy ocean, further away from the here and now. It was a blessing to be one with your thoughts for the answers to many ideals were presented without delay and apprehension. He was so into is thoughts that he almost didn't see there was a visitor among his homeland. When he noticed though his attention was set upon her much like a predator watches its prey. But Atem wasn't the type to attack for his vigil was more curiosity that was layered with interest. It was not everyday one of his kind or similar to it would be able to stand the harsh desert and the misery she offered to those maladjusted.

The thing that really caught his interest was her actions for the little mare seemed quite natural as she trekked through the endless ocean. His nostrils intook the air only to not catch her scent. Indeed he was rather intriqued by her display of willingness to find whatever she was searching for with no qualms.

So Atemu began a slow walk toward her with his magnificent head held high. Surely there was some riddle or ancient prophecy she was following. Whatever the cause he was determined to find out. His plan though was to let her acknowledge him for a noble never called out another unless they were the same or carried a vindictive nature. He would let her speak in tongue of her current actions.

Even in his treasured thoughts the desert was a lonely place. Perhaps she would enlighten him with her witty response.

With bursts of youthful speed she galloped Along the tops and slid down sides of the windswept Sand dunes. Sometimes purposefully dragging her pale green hooves to kick up as much of the hot sand as possible creating mini sandstorms.
After sometime Finding a particularly high dune for a dramatic vantage point she reared up on her hind legs. Then held there her eyes cast straight up into the bright blue sky.
Now that she was home she wondered . . . why she had stayed away for so long? What on earth had made her forget how much she missed this place? Or even Why she had left for the overly green damp forests (to her damp is anything that might not be entirely bone dry)  and plains of the soquilli lands in the first place?
No trees to snag her blankets or be generally in her way weather it be in view or actually just in the way. No bugs to annoy her at constant. No rainy days. Here it was one rainy week a year then boom back to hot sun. Perfectly predicable in a good way.  But most importantly there wasent much water at all. No rivers or streams, lakes or ponds for her to fear and avoid at constant.
Now Adventure yes it was true and new experiences abound but . . . What did she think even for a second could compare to the blazing sun above and the scorching sand beneath her hooves. Endless horizons and sunsets without compare. Not only that but perhaps the crowning jewel of it all the  stars . . .stars as they were meant to be seen. Infinite specks of glittering light, of all manner and color. not just Meer millions those who called the forests an plains there homes raved about so contentedly.
With a neighing chuckle she closed her eyes and allowed herself to fall backward. slideing  on her back down the side of the dune. When she stopped she opened her eyes and saw standing not quite above her but yet definitely still haveing to look up to see him. A stallion short of mane and wind/uni of breed  in what appeared to be clothing of an egyption fashion. Elegant egyption fashion to be exact. Those facts with his posture and expreshion said quite boldly that he was at least somewhat important of baring. As one would find it hard to deny that he looked quite regal both in manner and mind. All of this She decided in just a seconds time with a single look. Blake had impeccable judgement of chacter or at least she thought she did as no one had proven her wrong as of yet.
Without loosing a beat still laying flat on her back she said a greeting in her native tongue a language mostly spoken by desert nomads that roughly translated into a simple.
"oh hello."
Then just to be safe as he might not speak that she said it in a few other dialects she had picked up during her many travels as well including the common tongue spoken in the soquilli lands and awaited a reaction.

The sands twirled in spirals at times across the stoic stallion standing still as a rock watching the mare before him. Unlike the mares of the greener Oasis this one was different entirely showing her own actions in her own right of deliberation. The word that would for upon his muzzle and whisper outward would be spelled out as "amusing". She reminded him much of blankets hung out on balconies to dry after they had been washed by the two-legger on preferably windy day.The simple yet perplex way they portrayed their antics in a wavering motion as if they were dancing. Ah even living among the greener lands set in vibrancy and perfection his bold soul called out to the heated sands of the endless desert. Now he stood intrigued to watch a flying carpet as it took mirth on enjoying the finer things in life.

At first Atemu raised a brow at her welcoming gesture not responding for a few moments to take in this mare's attributes. She did indeed remind him of a tapestry woven in elegant form yet she was not a vase that would easily be broken. Her heart and soul sang outward in deep overtones rather then dainty ones most females emitted. Rather she looked more like a woven tale of mystery and wit. He finally responded after his musings of her semblance to carpets and blankets, "Greetings" His voice was quite deep and rather mysterious never taking his gaze from her, "Consider it not an insult for my asking why you are lying there upon your back in the great sands." His mind still emitted a chuckle to her looking so foolish and yet there was definite reason for her display of antics for the past few moments in time as he witnessed them.

The thing that captured his attention inadvertently was her dialect as it was spoken in several tongues. Not many a race nor breed could master such a task be it a sphinx written in lore that moved nightly across the sands of infinite time wrapped in riddles and queries.

"You are quite fluent in your dialects that grants my appreciation" he responded in a strong nomadic accent flavored in his own tongue from the palace. It had a spicy overtone set upon the heralds and nobility of his people. Surely if she had conversed in her travels and learned well nobility could be rather refreshing upon your tongue when addressing the Pharoah. He was quite determined to know of her origin and reasons for this desert farce. Something lied within hidden walls from existence and knowledge that she was seeking. For now the stoic stallion stood rigid and proud awaiting her response within the speech nobility prided as their own among the desert folk that settled within the great sea of endless time and lore.

"why? To better appreciate standing of course." she grinned at him as if his question was as silly as she indeed no doubt seemed.
With that she rolled over jumping to her nimble green hooves, Trotting a few paces away (so as not to get any on him) she shook the loose sand off and circled back to stand before him once more.
"oh all that? It's just something I've picked up. Negotiation and learning the tongues is kind of a requirement for a nomad such as myself.  Glad you like it. Always nice to be appreciated.Your not so bad yourself." she replied in return to his compliment.
His accent perhaps deep desert or maybe more to the south? The tone, annunciation, and over all speech pattern confirms his nobility no doubt. The real question is . . . where are his guards or footmen? Royalty doesn't normally move alone without good or bad reason. she thought.
"But no really you get an amazing view of the sky from that angel.- laying on your back I mean." she added her manner playful but her mind always calculating.
She then noted his wings "well at least to us earth bound types it's amazing I suppose." she added with a kind of chuckle.
"The names Blake and you are?. ." she asked starting to walk around him in a mildly interested yet casual fashion. Though it seemed the only step she had was an almost kind of light hearted skip. Blake had never been good with being shy which made her seem somewhat lacking in . . .social etiquette.
His outfit makes me miss home even more. Stallions of the sands always dress so attractively.  She mused.

Though he stood rigid a smile brushed across his stern features for merely a moment then vanished much like the blowing sand around them. He was momentarily intrigued in this mare. She made the drab life of desert flow with never ending curiosity.

"Indeed" he responded deeply never letting her vibrant self leave his sight. Mirages were quite fluent in these lands in the shapes and forms of demons in disguise. Perhaps if the great King would simply look away she would float int nothing and banter how he was tricked. No she was one to watch and clearly investigate. Never take chances without proper precaution; you live longer.

"Oh" he remarked to her amusement of seeing the sky, "I've never really pondered lying upon my back. Perhaps silliness does not sit well in my bloodline." He pushed the thought out of his mind imagining he was a frisky colt lying upon his back looking skyward at the rolling clouds. No he was a prince, a King mind you that must withstand common actions. It purely looks odd to your people and disgraces your fine heritage. Those days fleeted away much like the warm breath of the sands skipping over his broad face now.

Letting his thoughts fade back from whence they came he nodded to her still standing with that piercing gaze, "Atemu". The stallion paused then feeling unsure she should know his full nature, or rather namesake he was granted at the point he was birthed. Perhaps if she would be better versed within his mind would he reveal more of his true origin.

For now he would learn more of this mysterious mare and find her meaning in his observation.

Stoping her circling for a moment her ears pricked forward.
"for someone who's not into anything silly that certainly was the absolute silliest answer I've ever heard. Doesn't suit my blood line. What a load of sand in the eye! I suppose it's not in your veins to smile either?" she gave an amused snort while tossing her mane. Her expressions and body language  expressed that she was mearly speaking her mind in a uninhibited fashion and not looking to offend or argue on purpose. "You know Those who sacrifice desires even the small ones for appearances never lead very happy lives Besides-" she paused and gestured about to the empty waste land of sand and wind "who exactly are you trying to impress out here prince Atemu?"
She finished casually adding the title of prince to his name to see if he would correct or confirm her suspicions. She guessed if he had actual rank that it would be hire according to his attire.  Either way she knew most royalty couldn't stand being incorrectly titled and she doubted very much that he would be any different.
"if it's from me you seek approval I'm flattered. If if not me then-" she leaned a little closet and whispered "I would find you quite mad." she added with a smile due to the fact that there really was no one other than her at the current time to seem so . . .aloof for.

The stallion's eyes opened wider, "Yes well..." he started to respond then stopped. Clever. Witty. She was one not to catch a single misstep or run around like most others. He paused momentarily and laughed in spite of himself for she was a clever creature that saw straight through the nobility he had lived and breathed most of his life.

"It seems you are quite clever Blake to figure me out. I find it amusing you chose to ponder more then be swept away in boredom like most around me." Perhaps destiny lied in the "heart of the cards". Heart meaning simply to be yourself and trust your senses when it came to others. Besides in a desolate land of tiny grains of sand company was best sought rather then walk into the unknown and become a mystery.

He tossed his head regally though watching her, "Still though you shouldn't try and disrespect one who has a higher title then yourself. Its not in your best interest lest you'd be punished". The prince quite much relaxing himself slowly melted his cold stature as he teased Blake to see her reaction. It was not pronounced much in the words and rumors of his people to speak indirect...like a commoner. Still being out in the swirling sands there was only two that could speak of such a travesty and the sands themselves. But the ever-changing winds joined to keep the silence of things seen and done. It was merely the winds that sang to overshadow the forever fluent murmurs of the sands.

She gave a large grin blake was quite the sucker for a compliment and definitely for one about her wits. Seeing as how she wasn't exactly a beauty by any standard. However If there two things she never lacked it was humor and confidence. Mostly of the "over confidence" variety.
He was teasing her he was loosing up. She enjoyed being able to help others enjoy things.
"punish me?" she looked about rather smugly "it's only you out here and I didn't think royalty dirtied there hooves with such things."
Just then a rather large scorpion popped out of the sand quite near her hoof looking rather angry. Without really looking or thinking for that matter she pinned the tail down and ate the rest in a single crunchy bite. Some habits were like breathing you never really forget them. When she was a foal food like grass, grains, and leaves were scarce in the sands. Scorpions however were abundant. So like most commoners she learned to eat them whenever they popped up to survive.
She hadn't tasted one on years. The large tail that remained on the sand between them with its venom was the best part. Bold of flavor almost with a certain spiciness that was most unlike any other taste.
It was common curtsey among her herd to share food to form bonds and. . . express fondness.

Amun chuckled being a bit lax not around others as he always was in some shape or form, "Ah but what if I was or were to. What would you do when the sands and swirling winds only hear your plea?" He looked almost stern for a moment then as he shook his head of the accumulating sand pebbles. His amusement of this lovely witty guest struck amazement in him as she single handed took care of a vile desert wander. There seemed to be no remorse in her actions or even customs depending which region she hailed from. Still she was quite correct in the manner she chose as scorpions were but a decent cuisine and rich in substance and spice.

Atemu admired her survival skills for most desert goers either returned to nomadic ways or they perished and became part of the land itself. He stood in a thoughtful stance wondering her origin for leaving this offering was common in some places but not others. Deep inside his mind he wanted to reject the gift but his heart stood valiant in place as let it guide him downward in a regal way to take the tail in his mouth and crunch slowly letting the venom spiciness create a wild zing in his mouth. Swallowing it slowly he closed his eyes thinking how he had never tried such a delicacy being a Prince. The relative thought of things he missed out on saddened him greatly but those regal eyes never showed any remorse; ever.

He waited till the spicy aroma melted away then the grand stallion took a deep breath, "Now tell me... what are you really seeking out here so far from your herd."

sh scoffed at his good Natured teasing.
“I’m a mare of simple desires. “ she said looking off across the desert in a thoughtful manner “I love to explore. Ever the desire for the next wonder my mother told me once when I was very young. Whats more is I used to hate sand. It got all over in your fur and adornments. Not to mention in ones eyes and mouth at constant. As soon as I was old enough- well barely old enough I left. One day I just bolted off in a direction. I didn’t think I would ever miss them or this forsaken place. I’ve been running and roving ever since hardly ever the same place more than once. I’m sure I’ve seen and done things most soquili only dream about. ”
She looked back to him and then looked down at the sand “feels like forever since I’ve felt sand against my hooves to be truthful I had to ask someone else how to even get back here. Isn’t that silly? I had forgotten how to get back home? Funny thing is it had never bothered me to be lost. Being lost to me had always just been finding new places in an unusual way. Hardly ever anything to worry about, That is until I couldn’t remember this place. I actually worried about it . . . about never being in this – hell again.” kicking a little sand then she shrugged “or you can choose to believe I came back for a little home cookin.” She kind of half laughed and went started to walk.
“i-I think id like a cactus now . . .care to join me?”

Simple yes she was decently so and yet intriguing all in the same. It wasn't on a daily basis you find someone that loved the sands as much as yourself. In truth he wasn't a fan of winters but some days he venture out in the white desert of cold just to regain his thoughts.

"Cactus you say?", he chuckled watching her. Not that he'd ever delved in the notion to nourish on a cactus but they were rumored to have great healing and hydration within. The Princely King had never tried cactus as a cuisine but the thought appealed to him to follow her. He needed some capricious amusement in his life for the others he lived around could never fathom his true identity or his ideals. They were a simple set of herds living on primitive routines yet they were essence within their own right. That was acceptance enough of each Soquili that called these lands their home.

"Not that I've discovered the correct removal of the spines but I'm sure you'll show me", he nodded being very honest in his regal nature. Being a kingly prince you don't do much learning on your own. Instead your elders taught you right from wrong which was a hindrance but it was preliminary custom to be on your best behavior.

"Lead the way Blake", he nodded his head held in a regal stance. This truly was an adventure so why not "live a little" as others would say.
