Shawn Darrow sat, staring out to sea, on the edge of a dock in the seaport city of Camphoreon; his worn sneakers dangling just over the water's surface. His one and only pokemon, a Jolteon, sat beside him, every now and then zapping a bolt of electricity at the water. The boy frowned at her.
"Don't you think that's a little cruel?" he asked, peering into the water to try to see what she had shot at. "They can't get you, but you can get them, and you probably knock them out before they even know what's coming." He scratched his head. "Plus, they're water-types and you're an electric-type. That's just not fair. You have the advantage and completely over-power them."
Lindsay, who took this scolding as a series of compliments concerning her raw power, proudly raised her head and acknowledged her trainer's praise with a happy, "Jolt!"
The boy, realizing she wasn't getting the message, sighed and stood up, pushing himself to his feet. "I think you're a good girl, Lindsay," he breathed softly. "But you really need to work on controlling yourself."
Though Shawn the pokephobe had previously been afraid to say so much as a scolding word to his pokemon, he gradually had come to realize that Lindsay was different. No matter what he said to her, no matter what he feared she might take the wrong way, she always seemed to turn his words into positive feedback in her mind. It was as though he could say nothing wrong to her. He had begun to question whether she could actually understand his words at all, since, really, she was just a pokemon. He couldn't make the assumption that she understood him like another person.
"Jol...?" Lindsay questioned, looking at him and cocking one ear before standing up herself. "Jolteon?"
At the very least, he didn't really feel so threatened by a pokemon who seemed to love him unconditionally. "Here," he offered. "Let's try training, 'kay? You're really powerful, but you're not good at focusing and directing your raw energy. Uuum...here, try that Krabby. The one coming out of the water. I think we can take it," he urged her, walking back up the dock to meet the Krabby on the sandy shore.
Lindsay darted after him, catching up to his heels. This was good. Shawn hardly ever wanted to train. She would show him what she was made of! Standing poised, she released a powerful ThunderShock at the water pokemon. It fainted immediately. "Jolteon! Jol!" she cried victoriously.
Her trainer, on the other hand, slapped a palm to his face. "I didn't even - it wasn't even out of the water yet, Lin. This is what I mean. Don't just go around zapping pokemon without letting them know you challenge them first. And aren't you supposed to wait for my command?"
He glanced down at his Jolteon, but she wasn't listening. He sighed as she rubbed her spiky fur affectionately against his legs, causing them to spark with static electricity.

"Come on Aggro, another Rock Smash!" A girl yelled out from the beach, not too far away, followed by a loud bellow. A few minutes later, it was followed by a heavy thud and the sound of rock crumbling.
Naomi Turner beamed happily as her Aggron made easy work of disintegrating the boulder, looking to the other piles of rock that were left in their wake. "Good job Aggro, those rocks are getting easier for you." She praised, walking to him and patting his side softly, where she was welcomed with a rumbling "Gron!" A giggle escaped her as he lowered down to nuzzle the top of her head gently. "I love you too!" She chimed to him, patting his chin just before he brought his head up again. Looking up to him, she couldn't help but remember when she first spotted him. He was such a tiny Aron, she almost didn't want to capture him and allow him to grow more. But as she thought of that, the more she felt that capturing him was the best way for the both of them to grow. So, when she did capture this Aron, he became the third Pokemon she had and she put the other two away in storage just so she could focus on raising him. Thus, here she was, though some time had obviously passed. Now this massive Aggron was always by her side, no matter the difficulties they went through.
"Hmm... now we should work on your Iron Tail. But on what?" She mused to herself, looking around the beach and the nearby docks. That's when her green eyes caught sight of the flash in the distance. Tilting her head, she had to wonder what it was. It seemed to originate on land, so it wasn't a Water Pokemon, but the worry of a beached Chinchou or Lanturn did pop up. Without anymore hesitation, she climbed up onto Aggron's back and nudged him softly. "Aggro, lets go check out that flash." She told him softly, which prompted a worried cry from the duel type. Despite the massive size, the Aggron had become rather timid - or nervous - toward other humans from an encounter with a Team Rocket member when he was a Lairon. Understanding his concern, she petted his forehead. "It's alright Aggro, I'm going to be right here with you. I won't let anything happen to you."
"Gron." Was his response, with a tentative nod of his head. When he was sure his trainer had a firm grasp of his horns, he stomped his way over toward where the flash went off in.

"Huh?" Both Rocket boy and pokemon jumped to attention at the sounds of a girl's yell and another pokemon's bellow nearby. The Jolteon's pointy ears perked and swerved, causing her to blink as she identified the noises. Human female - an enemy. The human girl might try to seduce her Shawn. Just as suddenly as they had stood alert, Lindsay's spiked ears pressed down against her skull and she growled in the direction of the source. There didn't seem to be too much of a reason for her to be concerned; the female trainer had her own pokemon to occupy herself with. However, Lindsay seemed to remain hostilely attentive just the same.
Shawn, who had grown somewhat used to his obsessed pokemon's temperamental behavior, ignored her actions for the time being and squinted further down the beach. He raised a hand to shield his eyes from the sun. What he saw caused him to stumble back in horror. It was difficult to tell for certain at his distance, but it looked for all the world to be a near-7-foot-tall steel-plated dinosaur. He hadn't seen anything like it before in Johto. It was with a trainer girl - presumably the one who had given it the command to attack - and despite how happy the pair looked together, Shawn couldn't help but question her sanity. Time to move.
"C-come on Lindsay," the teen told his electric-type, unable to take his frightened sepia gaze away from the metallic monstrosity. "Let's go. I think maybe They need some privacy to train, and w-we might get in their way." He dreaded to think what might happen if that pokemon used the Rock Smash move it had used on the boulder on a living thing instead. The kid started walking backwards, but as he turned around in preparation to run forwards, he realized his Jolteon wasn't with him.
Glancing back over his shoulder, he found her sitting in the sand where he had last left her, staring at the other trainer and her dangerous-looking reptile. "Lindsay?" Her ears were still down, but she no longer appeared to be in an aggressive stance. She had tucked her short tail under her paws and tilted her head when Shawn called her name, but didn't look over at him. Lindsay only continued to stare at the training duo. She looked uncharacteristically submissive, somehow. If Shawn could believe that pokemon had feelings, he might have even said she looked sad; melancholy. Longing, maybe.
"I love you too!"
The words echoed in the Jolteon's mind as she watched. There was true affection in the girl's carress of her Aggron. There was genuine compassion there. And, despite having been raised in a Rocket facility, forced to evolve at an early level, and used mercilessly by her previous Rocket masters, Lindsay believed the human girl when she told her pokemon she loved him. After all, this girl wasn't a Rocket. More than anything, Lindsay wanted a bond like that.
Ever since she had first encountered trainers who loved their pokemon in Rocket raids, the Jolteon made it her goal to find a love like that. She deeply envied Aggro and Naomi - almost to the point of resentment - but she saw sights like this so rarely at the Team Rocket base that just to watch filled her heart with hope. Some day, that sort of bond would be hers too. She was determined for it to be so, and this was just proof that her wish was possible. Bonds like this existed. One day, maybe with Shawn, once he managed to get over his fears and trust her...
"Um...Lindsay?" Shawn spoke softly, appearing at his pokemon's side. "Are you okay?" He looked down at her, his brow furrowed, but it was difficult to say if he was worried about his pokemon's behavior or merely still suffering from his fright at the Aggron's powerful display. "I hate to nag, but did you hear them? They're going to practice Iron Tail soon, and they're looking for something to practice on. I don't want to be that something, do you?" As he looked back up, though, he discovered an even more disconcerting surprise.
"Ohhh s**t. They're coming this way," he cursed frantically, his complexion going pale. "They must've seen us. Anything to hide behind?" He glanced around. Sand, ocean, dock, beach, boulders, rocks. The memory of the thing called 'Aggro' pulverizing rocks down the shore instantly scratched those off his list. "Crap...guess that means - what the hell?! Lindsay, what're you doing?!"
The Jolteon had taken up her offensive stance in the sand one more, her fur sparking in what she considered an intimidating manner as she faced the approaching opponents. Her demeanor had completley changed, though. She no longer appeared to want to face the two out of anger or jealousy, and she almost seemed to smile as her amber eyes narrowed towards Aggron and trainer.
"Jolteon. Jolt-jolt eon?" She greeted with dark humor. she noted, nodding up towards the girl on Aggro's back, <...but I'll bet it's nothing like the bond I have with my Shawn.>
Now was the perfect time, Lindsay thought, to test her bond with her precious human boy. He had wanted to be the ones to give her commands, right? Glancing back at the petrified pokephobe, she managed to catch his attention with a short, ready bark. If he wanted to fight together with her as a team, she was more than willing to do so, but he had to get over his fear. He had to realize that she would do anything to protect him, even if she had to lay her life on the line. Shawn had to believe in her and her power - that she was strong enough to keep the Aggron from attacking him. He had no reason to be afraid, much less run away. If only she could get him to understand that. "Jolteon!" she urged. "Eon, jolt!"
It was a shame Shawn was too busy gaping breathlessly at Aggro, frozen with fear, to hear, let alone understand, his pokemon.

It was a 'long' trip to investigate the flash, there was only so fast a heavy, short legged Steel type could go. Normally, Naomi didn't mind, but when there was a possibility of an injured Pokemon, she sort of wished Aggro could go a little faster. Despite this, she patted his head for the good job he was doing, knowing full well he was nervous that there would be another trainer where the flash originated at.
Eventually, Aggro's fears were confirmed as a more human figure appeared in the distance with a smaller figure nearby. Naomi perked up, pushing herself up more onto Aggro's head to get a better vantage point to see who was up ahead. It wasn't quite clear, but she was certain that it was another trainer. Soon, she just figured that the flash was just from a Pokemon executing an attack its trainer asked it too. But there was only one way to find out for sure, so she pressed onwards.
The smaller form became clearer first. Obviously a Pokemon, it was yellow mainly with spikey fur. Could that be? It sure looked like a Jolteon. Inwardly, she had to squeal like a little girl. Since she was like.... seven, she had wanted an Eevee. She still does in fact, but now wasn't sure what to evolve it into. There was the choice between her two favorite types, water and psychic, meaning a Vaporeon or Espeon. But now, there was the added choice of a Glaceon. It wasn't fair. But that was something to think of another time. Returning her attention back to the 'Eon in front of her. Next to it, the trainer stood. A boy by what she could tell by now, there seemed something off about him... like he was nervous. Naomi tilted her head.
A sudden yelp escaped from her as she found herself nearly toppling over the Aggron's head. The large Pokemon had suddenly stopped for some reason, causing the momentum to carry her some. Catching herself, she looked to her Pokemon as it stood there, rumbling nervously. "Aggro?" She questioned, patting his head. Her green eyes blinked for a moment before looking back ahead of them. There was still a bigger distance than she would have liked between them, but that wasn't what caught the trainer's attention. The Jolteon was standing at attention now, fur sparking. She hoped they're approach didn't scare the Pokemon, not knowing it was really the trainer that was more frightened. Slowly, she climbed down off of Aggro's back, still patting him. She wished she could understand Pokemon, but it did seem that the small Electric type was talking to her Pokemon. So, she should talk with the other trainer. "I'll be back Aggro." She told him before closing the space by walking, calling out a gentle 'Hello' when she was close enough.
"G-Gron... Aggron" He answered, eyes moving from the small Jolteon to the trainer she had barked at, wondering what they had planned. The large Pokemon honestly wanted to retreat, but he trusted Naomi to return to his side if things got dangerous.

Despite its gentle tone, the teen jumped at the sound of the greeting, finally tearing his eyes away from the steel-type long enough to regard its trainer approaching him. Uh oh. She wasn't commanding it. There wasn't anything to stop it from attacking, now! Wait, what was it focused on, then? Lindsay? Had she been the one to stop the thing...?
Shawn shook his head to clear it. He had to get a grip. The girl was talking to him and she deserved an answer. An intelligible answer. Slowly turning from the pokemon to the girl, he forced himself to stop thinking about the danger it posed long enough to get himself to speak. "H-hi," he said shakily, grabbing his other arms he flexed his fingers. They were shaking slightly, so he hid them behind his back.
"Sorry, is that your...your..." Don't look at it; don't look at it! "- your pokemon?" he finished quickly, sweat beadding on his brow. "W-we - er, Lindsay and I - we were just looking, honest..." he stammered, finding it hard to form comprehensible sentences. He tried to speak more, but though his mouth moved, little more seemed to come out of it. "I...um...I...I.." It was going to kill them. They were all going to die. Any second now. Shawn was sure of it.
"I've never...seen...anything like that before," he finished with a forced smile, looking more pained than anything. Hopefully the trainer would understand enough to realized he was talking about her steel-type. For a guy who was afraid of Togepi and who had grown up evading ghost and poison types around the city, nothing that big and dangerous-looking was good news.
Meanwhile, Lindsay blinked in surprise at Aggro's response. She hadn't realized non-Rocket pokemon were so submissive to their trainers. Noticing the way the larger pokemon's tail curled about his legs and how he spoke so timidly, the Jolteon backed off. Perhaps this one's bond with his trainer wasn't as strong as she'd believed. It certainly seemed genuine on the human girl's side, just as Lindsay's confidence and support for Shawn was. However, like Shawn, Aggro still seemed to have trouble putting all of his trust in his partner on account of his fear. Just as Shawn was too afraid to have faith in Lindsay, Aggro seemed too afraid to have faith in his human girl. The electric-type sighed, disappointed.
<Forget it, then,> she answered, annoyed as she sat down in the sand. <I thought you were strong. Obviously I was mistaken. You, who are so much larger and further evolved than I am...you, whose trainer trusts and believes in you...> Lindsay looked up, narrowing her amber eyes at Aggro. <You are not worthy of her and her love for you. How can you possibly call yourself her pokemon?>
The Jolteon was not once to mince her words. Shawn was more afraid than most humans, yes, but he acted to defend what he cared for when it counted most. On the other hand, Lindsay questioned Aggro's ability to defend his trainer had the pair really been in danger.

Naomi was confident that her Pokemon wouldn't move from where she left him. One, for the fact that he was well trained in to obey her command to stay there, also, for the unfortunate fact that this other trainer was unnerving him to come any closer.
She continued to approach the trainer, but stopped a few feet in front of him when she noticed him jumping when she had said her hello. A brow lifted curiously at his reaction. She didn't think she would scare him, he had to be aware that she was coming closer to him. Her green eyes watched as his attention moved from Aggro to herself and he finally returned her greeting. It sounded nervous. Did he think that she was going to have Aggro attack him or his Pokemon? She looked to her Pokemon and the Jolteon in front of him, the two seeming to have some sort of conversation themselves. Looking back to the boy, she gave him a comforting smile. "It's alright, he won't do anything."
The more the boy spoke, the more he reminded her of her little brother. Nervous and scared, especially about Pokemon. The image of Enzo made her heart flutter and more understanding about the boy in front of her. The more he spoke, well, stammered, the more comfortable she got and the wider her smile got as well. When he finally finished trying to get what he wanted to say out, she giggled softly and moved a bit closer. "Aggro is my Pokemon and he's a sweety. You can look at him, neither he or I will bite for doing so." She started, turning so she could look at both, her Aggron and the boy, when she saw fit. When he said he never seen anything like Aggro before, she canted her head slightly. "Never seen an Aggron before or seen one as big as him before?" She questioned, but then shrugged, "either way, there's nothing to really be worried about. To be honest... he's more afraid of you than you are of him. If it wasn't for me telling him to stay there, he would be running the opposite way right now." She sighed at that comment, wishing she could erase that feeling of fear from Aggro and from her little brother... but she was only human. Shaking the thought from her mind, she sent yet another smile to him. "So, is that your Jolteon?" She asked, motioning to the small yellow Pokemon.
The large Pokemon listened as the smaller Pokemon told him to forget her challenge. As she continued to tell him off, he found himself getting upset. It was when she questioned himself calling a Pokemon that he suddenly slammed his heavy tail against the ground. He snorted and roared at the Jolteon in anger and annoyance.
Hearing the soft thud in the sand, followed by the roaring, Naomi looked to Aggro. Not hesitating, she ran to her Pokemon while telling the boy she would be right back. She was worried that he couldn't take being so close to the other trainer, so when she got to him, he patted his side. "Aggro? What's wrong? It's okay, he won't harm us." She climbed onto his knee, lifting herself up closer to his head. The large steel-type lowered his head to her and rumbled softly, apologizing for his uproar, nuzzling the top of her head as she wrapped her arms around him.

At the girl's assurance, a barrage of questions tumbled out of the skeptical teen's mouth. "How can you be sure? He just pulverized that boulder! What if he decides he doesn't like my face and comes charging over here? What if he doesn't hear you tell him to stop, or just doesn't care?" It still puzzled Shawn to no end how people put such full trust in their pokemon. When he looked at the girl again, though, she was only smiling wider at him. "...Why are you smiling at me like that?"
"Aggro...right..." the black-haired kid murmured, scratching the back of his neck. "A sweety. Just the word I would use to describe him." Sarcasm was something he often resorted to when he was afraid, though he really had no intention of being rude. The trainer herself seemed really nice. He just worried about how certain she seemed to feel about her...Aggro.
"An Aggron?" Shawn repeated. "I didn't even know that was what was called. Uh...I'm from the Johto reigon, so I'm still getting used to pokemon I haven't seen outside of Goldenrod City." At least he thought he could recognize it was a steel-type, like Skarmory. The street kid blinked when she explained why there was nothing to fear from it. "He's afraid...? Of me?" That was a first. Shawn had known Pidgey that were more fearsome than him. "But why?"
As she asked about his pokemon and motioned to the Jolteon, he cleared his head and glanced back to Lindsay. "Oh...um, yeah. Sorry for whatever trouble she might have caused..." Or was causing, from the looks of it. "Lindsay, leave Aggro alone," he groaned. Why did he have to have such an aggressive electric-type?
Meanwhile, the Jolteon jumped at the heavy tail-thump of the Aggron. That was more like it. Was he finally showing her some backbone? she shot back, glad Aggro was putting up something of a fight. At least that'd seemed to change now, though. She liked this new-found confidence in her fellow pokemon.
When Aggro began referring to her trainer, however, the Jolteon went from pleased to irked. Her fur bristled and her ears pressed down once more against her skull as she snarled. anyone on. We don't need to pick and choose our battles. We'll defeat all our challengers.>
At the defying roar, the Jolteon growled and sparked in response.
Shawn stiffened at the reactions of Aggro. "...I thought you said he was scared?" the boy said meekly, looking at Naomi with a distressed expression. But the girl had already gone to calm down her pokemon. The grunt decided to do the same, already guessing his Jolteon was the cause of the disturbance. "Damn it...Lindsay! What did I tell you? Come here!"
Ears perked, the Jolteon gleefully frolicked back to her trainer as if she'd never been angry in the first place. Her change in emotions really concerned Shawn. What if she suddenly decided to turn on him one day? Likely there'd be no warning, considering how volatile she was. Kneeing in the sand, he put a hand on her fur, smoothing it down and absorbing some of the static shock from it. "That's no way to make friends, girl," he sighed, taking out his pokeball. "Sorry, but I think you need a time-out."
Lindsay, with a look that was a mixture of surprise and sorrow, obediently disappeared back into the ball. She hadn't realized she'd made Shawn so upset. The boy replaced the ball back in his pocket and looked to Naomi and Aggro. He thought she must have been incredibly brave to approach such an enormous creature while he was upset. Getting back to his feet, he watched them, amazed at the bond they shared. Crazy or not, it was a touching thing to witness.

The teen missed a lot of the questions the male had asked. She caught the mentioning of the boulder, what if he charges and doesn't care about her orders, she even caught the sarcasm, though about what... that she missed. At this moment, she was calming the large Pokemon. One thing the boy had said that really caught her attention was his curiosity on why Aggro seemed more afraid of him than he was for him... though it seemed to be a tie at the moment.
Aggro on the other hand, was still quite enraged at the Jolteon's words, especially her final remarks before her trainer returned her to the ball. Even some time after the electric Pokemon was out of sight, the large Pokemon was still growling softly. This anger gradually faded away as Naomi had climbed onto him and patted him, comforting him. He knew that he wasn't weak and had full belief in himself and his trainer. It was this thought that mattered to him, so with a small rumble, he nuzzled into Naomi as if saying he was sorry for his outburst.
Even after the apology from her Pokemon, she stayed by the large creature's side a bit longer. After being entirely certain, she climbed down from him, giving his thigh a small pat before turning back to the boy. "I'm sorry about that, he's usually a lot gentler than that." She comforted with a warm smile. "And I'm sorry, but I missed most of your questions, but I'll answer what I did manage to hear."
Clearing her throat, she began. "As far as the boulder, he was just performing an attack I ordered him to do, in saying that, he wouldn't charge you unless I told him that. I am sure of this because our bond is strong. If it was my Luxray, then it would be a different story. Not saying I don't have a good bond with her, she's just more headstrong... much like your Jolteon, by what I saw. I hope you don't take any offense in me saying that." She said, rubbing the back of her head some, not wanting to upset the boy in any way.
"As far as why I said that Aggro was more afraid of you than you were of him, well... " she paused, always hating of bringing this story back to her mind. Sighing and composing herself, she continued, "well, it happened when he was still a Lairon... that's the second stage of the Aron evolution. It was when I had him travel with me out of his ball. We were traveling to the next town to get some supplies since I was running short. On the way, we were jumped by two jerks from Team Rocket who tried to take him from me. I managed to fend them off, but Aggro was hurt in the process and he just wasn't the same around humans since."

"Forget it. A lot of my questions are pointless to most people anyway," Shawn admitted after watching the girl finish comforting her own pokemon. She seemed more worried about her Aggron, and he couldn't really blame her for not having heard him. Most of his blabber had just been spoken out of panic and initial terror.
Bonds. Everyone talked about bonds with their pokemon as if it were a tangible things. Couldn't bonds with pokemon, like bonds with humans, be faked, though? No one seemed to even consider the idea that their pokemon could or would betray them. Then again, Shawn thought, most didn't give them reason to. Most with exceptions like ghost-types, of course.
"Yeah...headstrong," the teen chuckled sheepishly, wishing that were all it was. between the two of them, Lindsay believed she was the more dominant. How did you try to control a pokemon like that? It was difficult to show them who was 'boss' when they could shoot lighting at you and all you could do was wave a pokeball at them. "No, you're right," he said immediately when she worried he would take offense.
"I'm...I'm actually really new as a trainer, if you couldn't tell. I have no idea how to control Lindsay. The way I was raised kind of make me...pokephobic," he sighed, averting his gaze in embarrassment. "That, and this Jolteon is way more experienced than I am, so I just figure she knows what to do better. So...I guess I just kind of let her take over. Which turned out to be a bad idea." He groaned and collapsed in the sand, looking out at the sea.
"I'm such a failure as a trainer. I don't know how people like you do it. You've got to be, what, my age...? Younger?" He wondered how long she'd been training pokemon, but chose not to ask in the fear of overwhelming her with more stupid questions. "Oh, um...I'm 16, by the way. Shawn Darrow."
Grateful that the girl took the time to explain Aggro's story - including its line of evolution, which he had no clue about - he almost missed the part about 'Team Rocket'. After recognizing the name, though, he stiffened, consciously sitting on the red 'R' that was printed on the hem of his coat and hiding the one printed on his sleeve. If she had already seen them and asked about them, well, then...he could just pretend it was a brand name or something. Sure. A homeless kid like him with brand-name clothes. Brilliant. Maybe they were his initals, only he had already given his name. Suddenly Darrow started to realize that having given away his real name probably hadn't been the best of ideas. He'd never had to worry about it before, though! Hopefully the girl would forget it.
"Jeez...man, those Team Rocket goons are awful," he agreed awkwardly. "Sorry to hear that. You must be really strong to take on two of those guys, though." He looked up at the trainer who had bravely fended off two Rockets for the sake of her precious Aggro. "Sorry, um...I know his name's Aggro, but what's yours?"

Naomi shook her head. "No question is pointless and always deserve an answer. As my father told me before, 'The only stupid question is a question that isn't asked'." She told the boy as she opened her messenger bag and rifled through it. It took a bit, having to push around other items, but she finally located Aggro's PokeBall and returned the large Pokemon to it. She felt he needed a rest from the ordeal and the boy needed a break from being around her 'terrifying' Pokemon. When the Aggron was back in his ball, she slipped it into the bag carefully and returned her attention to the boy.
Fixing her ribbon, she moved closer to him as he agreed with her about his Pokemon. She was happy that he wasn't upset by her words, but he did seem bothered by something else. Her head tilted slightly, listening as he explained how he was a new trainer and how his Jolteon was more experienced. A small frown formed on her face as he seemed disappointed in himself now as he flopped onto the sand. She sighed and moved to his side, sitting down beside him. "You're not a failure. Like you said, you're just new. It takes time and constant mistakes before you learn what's right. You should have seen when I got my first Pokemon, a Turtwig. I was so nervous about raising it, I didn't battle anyone or anything for months." She admitted, scratching her cheek lightly, "I thought I would never become a trainer, but I was determined. I ended up going to the library and doing research about anything Pokemon."
As she spoke of her beginnings as a trainer, she doodled lightly in the sand with her finger. "To be honest, even with all I learned in my research, I was still really nervous about my first battle. So many questions came to mind, like 'what if the other Pokemon is so much stronger than mine', 'what if my Pokemon doesn't listen to me', and especially, 'how am I supposed to beat a trainer who has more experience than me?' But mostly, it came down to me trusting in Gaia, and trusting in myself. Yes, I ended up losing anyways, but it was because of that, I learned from my mistake and I took that onto my next battle and then on." She told him, giggling in embarrassment in revealing that she lost.
When he thought that she was his age or younger, she quirked a brow. "Age doesn't really matter how old someone is to be a great trainer. I've seen some young kids and they're great as well as some adults and they're... well... terrible." She said, not quite sure it that was the right way to put it. She bowed her head in greeting when he introduced himself. "It's nice to meet you Shawn... I'm eighteen, so you know."
She watched the sea for a moment after calming herself from her Team Rocket encounter story. She honestly didn't pay attention to his clothes, it wasn't a big habit of hers. Unless he had a giant red 'R' on him, she wouldn't care, though she was sure there was Rockets that didn't obvious advertise that they were one. She was quite certain Shawn wasn't one of them, he seemed way too nice to be with that terrible team. But then, what if he was? She wasn't quite sure what she would do, so she didn't think about it.
When he agreed that the goons were awful, she nodded and sighed softly. "I don't know if you can call it strength rather than just sheer determination to protect my Pokemon and friend. To be honest, I didn't think I would stand a chance, especially since I didn't have my other Pokemon with me." She told him, running her fingers through her hair. "Oh... I'm Naomi Turner... again, it's nice to meet you."
