Time had passed. Seasons come and gone and the thriving Ela'wadiyi pride had seen plenty of brand new litters born to keep the young nanny on her toes. Having started out as a huntress like many others, Caelyndei had been scouted by the elders of her Clan to take on the task of guardian, entertainer and teacher to their cubs, reviving a position in the Ela that had dwindled into near nonexistence over the years. And though she still chose to keep her skills as a predator sharp and well honed, caring for the future of her new pride was a privilege and a duty that Cae took seriously. Exhausting as it was to keep their curious little minds simulated as well as giving each one the same amount of attention while simultaneously making sure that they didn't slip out from under her acute radar, they were really a joy to care for.

Watching the last of her charges toddle towards their awaiting mother like a row of ducklings a fond smile curled her snow splashed muzzle. Calling after then cheerily, See you tomorrow!

Sighing with relief to know that, at the end of the day everyone was safely returned to their parents, Caely sighed with satisfaction and began to head home herself. She was eager to see Waikiki and ask him how his day had been and maybe even.. finally broach the subject that had been on her mind for a while.

He had been relaxing under the shade of a tree for the most part of the day. He had done nothing besides laze away. He knew that he probably could have done more productive things.. and on a better day, he was more apt to going and playing in the water rather than sleep the day away. But today, today was a sleeping kind of day.

Though now the sun was beginning to set, and he found himself rolling onto his belly to look into the sunset. It was beautiful, and for a moment he wished that someone was there to share it with him. It would have lasted longer, this moment, if he hadnt see the vision in his mind walking closer towards him. He smiled, standing, and called out.
"Dudette!"

Wandering the pridelands in an almost drone-like fashion, Caely went about checking each of the usual places where her favorite beach bum could usually be found, eager to see his handsome face. Unfortunately he wasn't in the river or basking on the sandy shore that encroached on the water. In passing she stopped several Sky clan members in hopes they might know the whereabouts of the pale lion, decked in those teal, tropical floral tattoos that made him standout so visibly from all the rest. They hadn't seen him either.

Strange, I hope he's okay. It crossed the doting female's mind to feel concern, worry beginning to darken her bubbly mood when a familiar voice beckoned her from the shade of a tree causing Caely to turn and charge at Waikiki happily. Throwing her arms around his neck and licking his face in her relief to see him. Wai! I was starting to get worried! I looked for you by the river, but you weren't there!

"I go many places, Dudette. Don't you worry. I'll never leave for long." He said, leaning into her throwing her arms around him. He felt a rush of pride at the fact that this beautiful girl was there with her arms over him. He hadn't expected to feel so strongly for anyone..well..ever. You could say the male hardly believed in love. He believed in freedom, and happiness, but love was something he'd never experienced.

"How are you today, my wallflower?" He asked, leaning in to nose at her cheek.

There was no small amount of hope in her eyes that he was telling the truth. Caely wasn't quite sure what she would have done if Wai had suddenly decided to leave this life and her behind and decide to become a nomad again. Grooming the fur her lick had ruffled out of place tenderly, when every last strand of fur was smoothed back the small lioness finally released Wai. Sliding to sit on her haunches before him. I can't help it.. sometimes I wonder if you'll forget me.. and never come back.

It seemed a legitimate concern, after all there were certainly plenty of other females in the pride that were more skilled and attractive than she was. Such dreary thoughts, Caely tried not to linger on them too long. Giggling as she was nuzzled into by a warm nose, whiskers bristling. I'm good! I took the cubs out in the tall grass today to hunt field mice. They were pretty noisy though.. we didn't end up catching much of anything.

He smiled when she sat back, and he leaned in to nuzzle her jawline and purred. "I plan on going nowhere my dear. I'll never forget you. How could I? You're constantly racing through my mind."

He said with a small smile. He hadn't ever noticed any of the other females. He had always been a one woman type of guy. And his one woman was standing in front of him even if she hadn't said she was his yet.

"Ah, what fun it was to be a kid, remember? But I'm glad you enjoy them. You need some of your own." He teased.

Against her typically self-depreciating nature, she believed that Wai was telling the truth instead of spouting the pretty little lies she wanted to hear. Maybe she just wanted to believe--No! The nagging thought was pushed aside with great determination. Waikiki was a friendly sort. With the kind of personality that was immediately likeable and certainly it must have attracted a fair amount of attention, but Caelyndei also spent a great deal of time with him. Ever since they had first met on the edge of the Ela lands, and in all that time she'd never known him to be the sort who strung others along. Wai just wasn't that way. Her smile shy but quietly adoring as the vibration of his purr soothed her uncertainty, stating with a chiming little laugh, So that's why I'm so tired..

They seem like they're having fun. I know I am, admitting with a sense of guilty pleasure to be able to spend her days amongst a ragtag crew of cubs with as many personalities as there were fish in the sea--or at least from what Wai told her anyway. For a moment she was content to think about everyone else's children, until he brought up having her own. Well, Cae hadn't expected it to be brought up so abruptly. Biting her lip as she nervously lowered her eyes, sliding her paw close to the larger one beside it until they touched. W-well.. I.. was thinking about that, too.

He could see the emotions playing in her face, and he wondered why she was so unsure to accept his affections. She was a reserved, cautious sort, but still he tried to break down those walls she had herself. But she had slowly been lowering it. And now he felt like he was closest to her than anyone else in the world.

"You were, dudette?" He asked affectionately. Purring and stepping back so he could sit and look at her. He wondered if she had found someone else but somehow, he really doubted it. He knew that she loved him..He felt it.

Well, y-yea.. Fidgeting in place as those blue eyes, calm as the ocean, observed her. It was hard not to feel nervous bringing up something so intimate as their future together. No matter how many times Cae had played the scenario over and over in her head, she'd never really expected it to quite happen like this. Trying to find the strength in her voice to continue, though her gaze remained glued to the ground, ears folding back against her head. I like caring for our pridemates cubs, but.. but I think it would be nice.. to have cubs of my own.

Though she'd never really said out loud that she loved Wai, hoping that maybe someday he would head that conversation, it was difficult to deny that there was something deeper between them than a simple friendship. Something that had blossomed in all the time they'd spent together completely natural and unforced. It wasn't exactly how Caely had expected to find love and she had certainly wished at times that Wai would pursue her more forcefully, but she didn't want to force him to be something he wasn't. Not when it was that easy-going personality that she had fallen for.

He wasn't the most vocal about things as others, but the male felt a spark in him like he had when he was a young male. He grinned, and stood, wagging his butt in the air.

"Who's it gonna be, miss? Hmm? You certainly can't pick just any strong, strapping dude these days." He said, and stood. Puffing out his chest he grinned.

"I'd hope you have a favorite?"

Lifting her head rather sharply from her ducked position between rounded shoulders Caely appeared confused by Wai's strange reaction. Watching him swagger and puff out his chest and ask her such strange questions. W-what was all this about? Who...? F-favorite? ..I wouldn't pick just anyone.

Her last statement was spoken rather defensively. He could be so confusion some times! What was all that even supposed to mean? As if there were any other choice but the lion standing before her, wagging his rear like a wild dog with a bad itch. He really was so strange sometimes! Mouth barely able to hold back a tiny smile at just how odd he was. There's only one that I want.... but.. but I'm not sure if he wants me.

He slouched a bit, blowing a tuft of mane out of his eyes. She hadn't found that sort of enthusiasm as a subtle hint. No.. She had been more confused than anything.

"I'm sure he would." He said, voice soft as he leaned against her. He took a deep breath, inhaling her scent with a low purr.

"I'm sure if you even mentioned it, you would find how incredibly happy he could be." He hinted.

You think so? The question was directed at him, yet it wasn't much of a question at all. With Wai sitting beside her and her chin raised, their noses were so close they almost touched. It occurred to Caely, perhaps a bit late--but she had never claimed to be quick witted--that her beloved was indeed dropping hints instead of addressing her directly the way she wished he would have. Making a small sound of amusement in her throat, the typically shy but straight forward female decided to tug his tail a bit in jest. Well.. I guess.. then.. I should hurry and go tell him... hopefully he'll be excited!

And with that, she lifted herself off her haunches and began to daintily trot away from Wai, not even chancing a backwards glance.

He pouted a bit, watching her turn and saunter off. He half wondered if maybe he was wrong about everything. Had she loved someone else? No way.. There was no way. They had been almost inseparable for quite a few moons. There was no way she would go to someone else!

"Hey woah woah woah, Dudette where are you going?" He asked.

One ear flicked backwards innocently, Caely secretly wondered if he would follow her if she kept walking away. An impish smile fighting to expose itself upon her maw as she tried to keep her pace even. Havens! It was so hard to play tricks on others. She wasn't quite sure how all the youths of the pride could keep from spoiling the prize. With every step that continued to separate them the lioness wanted to whip around and blurt the truth, but Cae resisted.

Attempting to feign surprise at Wai's protest, though she could feel her heart melting in her chest at his sudden confusion. I'm going to do what you told me!
