It had been a while since Kivuli had taken the time to catch up with his children - his excuse being that there were far too many of them and he was only one lion - without a mother it had been an interesting lifestyle for the father of . . . well eight, but seven children running around like the world's on fire.

Now that they were older, he had an even harder time keeping tabs on what each one of them was dying at any time - but he couldn't complain - they all had lives and loves and whatnot now, so when he could, he'd find out what was new for them. Of course, that was what he was doing right now, having heard that his son Yareha had been perusing around the pride with a hidden curiousity that made this golden marked father a little curious, himself.

"Yareha~?" he called out, eyebrows raised as he looked around the den he knew his sun had taken home at.

It was daytime and Yareha was sleeping. His first reaction, when he heard his name being called, was to tell whoever it was to shut up and go away 'til it got darker. Then the younger lion woke up enough to properly recognize the voice.

"D-dad?" he called out in surprise as he hastily got to his feet and tried to rub sand out of his eyes with a paw. The younger lion overbalanced and nearly fell, but managed to catch himself. It wasn't often that Kivuli had time to visit, and while Yareha mourned his lost sleep, he'd rather have a bit of time with his father.

"What brings you here?" he asked, reaching the mouth of the den, eyes narrowed against the bright sun.

Sure it was daytime and sure his son was sleeping, but it was a good time to get the jump on him - having spent most of the evening watching over the pride carefully on the right hand of Nyota, (or would it be right to say the right eye . . . ) Regardless, seeing the groggy face of his son made him smile just a iittle, a chortle escaping his muzzle.

"Did I wake you?" he had to ask, his eyes lidding with a tint of amusement before shaking his head, sitting at the den entrance as the young one nearly toppled arse over tea kettle before basically being right in front of his white paw pads. "I've just come to catch up - I've been hearing . . . " he paused, before looking his son over again, "that there has been a little dust kicked up about you doing something. Nothing wrong, I assure you, I'm just a little curious what my kids are getting up to these days, you know?"

It felt weird to him, talking to his kids, when he himself still felt like a cub when he was around the old guard . . . time does fly, he mused inside.

The boy snorted. Wasn't it already obvious Kivuli had woken him up? But it would be rude to tell his father "duh" (deserved as it was) so he managed to keep his mouth shut - no mean feat for Yareha when he was just starting to wake up.

"'M not up to much," he replied tiredly. "I dunno what you've been-" the son yawned hugely, "-hearing." He titled his head questioningly at his father. He could guess what it was about, of course, but he didn't really want to discuss his plots for Aysu with Kivuli.

It was a little amusing to watch how he antagonized his son with the simple, and yet someone rethoric question. Of course he had woken up his son, it was very obvious on the young one's face - and the snort was pretty much a tell tale sign. He tried to keep his amusement in, but he couldn't help but let a smirk and maybe a small chortle through. He understood now why parents teased their children - it was all fun and games and watching them squirm was amusing.

"Nothing terribly much. . . "
he started, looking away from his son before starting up again. "Little birds have been telling me that you and your sister had a meeting of the minds recently. . . nothing terrible I'm told. I heard that you both had a bit of a out and out and things are happening between you. Not sure what happened, but I'm curious because . . . I am the father, and I feel bad because I don't get around enough to find out . . ." he finished, his eyes lowering a little.

The younger lion was doing his best to focus on Kivuli's face and pay attention, but it was difficult. Combine the fact of waking up with the fact that Yareha didn't really want to have this discussion, and you had an almost-mess.

"You hear a lot," the son replied, trying to buy time while he sorted through everything his father had said. "Aysu was being Aysu and I just happened to be there. Nothing unusual in that," Yareha answered, only slightly defensively. It might have been the yawning that made his reply flatter, more matter-of-fact, or it might simply be that he saw their interaction that way.

"Well, I am a father, you'll understand too - one day, if you find yourself with children, Yareha," he murmured contently, before noticing the exhaustion is getting to him, he himself starting to feel the tire that his curiousity had been holding back originally. Stiffling his own yawn, he looked over his son's face once more - the stubborn-ness of his statements showing through more than he was aware - thanks to the daylight piercing through the sky.

"I understand that Aysu is Aysu, but Yareha is Yareha also, and I'm sure something large is being compounded in your mind." he stated, a little too sternly. He knew how his kids clicked, and was worried this would be someone's undoing. Maybe he was overthinking too much.

"Just. . . don't hurt anyone - I hope whatever you're doing is something your serious about, and that you're not going to harm anyone along the way." he murmured to his son, a little worry pulling through his voice.

Yareha gave a snort of disgust and disinterest. It'd be a long, long time before he would ever consider being a father...and he was an adult! There was no need at all for Kivuli to be so overly concerned and parental.

"No one's going to get hurt," he replied sullenly, sounding much younger than he actually was. "You think I'm some kind of stupid adolescent still?" Probably not the right thing to say, but Yareha was still tired. Yeah, that was his excuse.

A grave sigh escaped the father's lips when he heard his son's agitation in his voice. so he hit a sour note - Kivuli figured it would have gone either way, and it looked like it was going the way of the dinosaurs. But he wouldn't consider this a defeat - more like an affirmation that Yareha was planning something, but nothing showed that his son was doing anything particularly wrong.

"I never said you're a stupid adolescent, Yareha. I'm sorry I stepped on your toes son, I'll leave you rest for the day - please don't see me terribly for this." He finally decided, before lifting his body and passing the boy, nudging him once with affection before bouncing off to try and sleep for the day so he could do his work when the evening came.

"You sleep well."

Yareha glared after his father's back. Stupid parents, always interfering. Couldn't Kivuli just treat him like the adult he was without falling back on being fatherly? The younger lion sighed, which became a yawn and reminded him that since his father had left, he was free to go back to sleep.

As he padded back into his den, he wondered where Kivuli had heard about his...plans...from. And what his father had really wanted to say to him today. But...Yareha was too tired to ponder it much. It could wait until after he'd slept.

The white lion curled up in his den and was fast asleep within moments, dreaming of the look on Aysu's face when he set her up with the first of his would-be suitors.
