It was getting dark as the red-eyed lion neared the borders of his pride. He walked with a slight limp and after exchanging a few words with a lion and a leopard who were guarding the borders, Gebhuza made his way to the heart of his pride, the Skadu’kliek.

He made his way to the place where he hoped to find his Clan Leader, Gin Kageka. He was returning a little late – according to his initial plan, he had expected to return some time during the previous day – and he was in a hurry to give the pink-eyed lioness his report. At least his mission had ended with a positive outcome as far as the pride was concerned even if he had suffered a personal loss: his long time companion, the dark snake who had seen many lands and fought for many battles by his side had perished the day before.

He walked through the densely-populated areas, sparing the playful cubs a few moments as they swarmed around him before continuing on his way. He only stopped again once he’d reached the leader of the Snake Clan and he bowed his head respectfully.

“I’ve returned.” He said simply, waiting for his leader to direct the conversation

"He hassss yet to return....... ssssould I notify Ahote?" The hissing voice replied lingering as he curled along the tail of the familiar silver lioness. She remained still as she stood along the edge of the cliff that overlooked the water as if she was paying little to no attention. A few minutes passed by before she flattened her ears and shook her head, "no there is no reason to Anko he has returned though later than expected."

She didn't move however Anko could tell that she was rather overjoyed and relieved to hear another return back from a mission. Gin would never say it, not in words that is, but she was never fond of losing members she felt in a way that she was guilty of sending them to her death. She mourned for their losses in private however like everything else in the world things had to move on.

She didn't even turn her head as Gebhuza, "I assume that since you have returned the mission was a sucess, however it seems that it did not go without scarfices... I am sorry." Gin turned her back to the water to face the lion, "Please inform of what has happpened."

The dark lion nodded affirmatively, looking down at the foreleg where one would usually find a large black snake resting with watchful red eyes staring solemnly in a coiled silence.

“He was big, just as the reports said. Fast, too.” Gebhuza said slowly, recalling his fight with the leopard two days before. His paw still hurt where it had been bitten and it felt sore and warm to the touch. “But sneakier than expected. He was hiding on a tree and I lost Misao to him. It has now been two days since I fought him. I apologize for the delay.” The notion that he wouldn’t see his slithering companion alive again both angered and saddened the dark lion but he tried to keep his emotions under control as he looked into his superior’s pink eyes.

He knew there were those who didn’t trust Gin’s leadership but for his part, Gebhuza had no doubts and he attributed such doubts to power hungry fools who didn’t realize the pride now needed peace to prosper. He had decided to follow the pale lioness and so far he had no complaints regarding the direction she had chosen.

The lioness’s brows knotted as the mentioned the swiftness the leopard had managed in under handing his opponent and catching him and Misao. She shouldn’t have sent the two of them on their own she had made a flawed mistake in believing the leopard would not suspect their pride being asked to dispose of him. However Gin knew that such words and thoughts were demeaning to the Misao and Gebhuza, she had enough faith that they were able to handle it with ease and saying otherwise was to doubt their skills and to insult them.

The pale lioness shook her head, “no there is no need to apologize for the delay. The mission was completed and that was the objective, I will notify the requestors that they will not have to fear his presences any more. You have done well Gebhuza and Misao will not be forgotten for her courage, skills and what she has done for this pride.” If she had been younger she would have given him a smile to cheer him up however such familiarities seemed to fade with age. Anko curled around Gin’s hind leg as if to send some sort of comforting sign that he had yet to perish like others around him though he would still go wherever she sent him just like Misao had.

Gebhuza nodded once again and took a moment in silence to collect his thoughts. Looking down on his injured paw one more time, he gave a very light sigh as he finally allowed himself to acknowledge the pain.

“I believe I’ll need a few days to return to full capacity.” A bit of rest a some herbs would do the trick, he figured. It probably looked worse because he’d forced himself to return to the pride as quickly as possible. “But I’ll leave that to the healers. Have new mission requests arrived while I was gone?” He didn’t want to appear lazy or unmotivated. Misao had been a loyal companion but he wouldn’t use her death as an excuse for not doing his share of the work. As soon as he got his paw fixed, Gebhuza intended to return to work at once. Which reminded him…

“I will need to find a replacement for Misao.” While his voice was rather cold, he kept his eyes off his foreleg this time. “But I don’t believe we’ve had snakes born recently.”

Gin nodded, injured lion was of no use in a mission and merely slowed down the progression of the rest of the group and or put him or herself in harms way when facing the enemy.

“Take all the time needed Gebhuza make sure that you do not rush your healing it would be unfortunate if your wound remained a permanent scar or injury.” Gin replied her voice in a flat strict tone as her eyes narrowed she was not willing to take any argument.

“As for new missions, only one has come in and Misaye and Chise will be handling it considering its nature is not one your talents would be of use.” Her eyes drifted to the open lid of the cave as a faint smirk flashed across her muzzle and disappeared in the blink of an eye. Chise had been all the more excited taking the missions as her own however her statement was not to insult the male just merely born of the wrong gender.

“No, no snakes have been born recently we will need to go in search…” She replied looking at the blue snake curled around her leg. There were only a few snakes currently in the pride, and two of them were males, brothers more or less.

“Yes, Nyoka.” Gebhuza nodded, silently wondering how long it would take until he was good enough to return to his missions. He felt a little better knowing that no new requests had arrived (at least, nothing he could do) though the missions were the livelihood of the pride so that wasn’t necessarily a good thing even in this case.

“From the outside hum…?” he said quietly more to himself than anything else, eyes drifting towards the path from where he’d come. It wasn’t always easy finding a good-tempered snake in the rogue lands. Some were rather vicious and a good number of them were poisonous, too. One had to be really lucky in order to stumble upon a snake’s nest.

It wasn’t long until the dark lion’s eyes returned to the pink eyed lioness, his head slightly lowered. “I will find something of use to occupy my time in the meantime. Perhaps I can help train some of the younger cubs.”

Despite her rather cold appearance she did feel a small bit of sympathy for the lion, having to find a new partner was not always easy. For some the emotional attachment to others weighed too heavily that they were unable to continue at all, it was the reason why the pride had decided after much debate that mates were frowned upon. True a familiar was one's closes friend however a mate made things even more difficult especially when one was required to flirt with another.

"If any newborn snakes arrive in the pride you will have first choice Gebhuza if you receive none before then," She didn't know when that would be but she would hold her word, it was unwise to leave any lion without a familiar especially one that she felt confident in sending out on missions when need be.

"Feel free to train any of the younger cubs while you heal I will let you know when any other missions come available when I feel you apt to return. Is there anything else you need or that I can do for you Gebhuza?" The members of her pride always came first to Gin, she would do whatever she needed to aid them even if she was not what you could call the most approachable about such
things.

“Thank you. I believe that is all.” Gebhuza stated before he nodded and slowly turned to leave. “With your permission then…” His eyes grew thoughtful for a moment as his mind shifted to the dark feline he had met the day before. He believed it was too soon to mention the possibility of a new member as he barely even knew the leopardess so it would be rushing things to discuss it with Nyoka even though he felt tempted to do so. In the end he decided not to tell his leader he was considering bringing in another member to their very secretive pride.

He walked away, his limp more pronounced now that he had remained still for a few moments and headed to the heart of the pride.

Gin furrowed her brows as she stared at ebony colored lion as he started to speak but drifted off in his words. He never finished the rest of the sentence but whatever it was she assumed it was either not important or about the snake he had loss. She opened her mother to ask what he wanted to say however she quickly closed it and dismissed it as she watched him limp away.

Harou had remained curled around her leg as she started to move walking along the edge of the pride her pink eyes watching the water plunging deep into the peaceful pool below.
