Thank god Gently had gotten him home - calling Sebby in the middle of the morning to come get him out of the hospital was not Matthew's idea of a good time. Not at all.
But now she was gone, Ashley had stomped off god know where to do got know what after seeing him, which he could only hope was nothing too... stupid.
Matthew was on the couch, on a fresh dose of painkillers and trying - while wholly failing - not to suck at Halo. Every now and then he moved - or even so breathed - wrong and a string of expletives came out.
He felt sorry for Sebby already. He wasn't sure if he even wanted to be around himself right now.

Sebastian had mostly morning classes, because while he enjoyed sleeping, he enjoyed having his afternoons and evenings free. Of course, most of that was spent doing school related things, but nothing was perfect. He usually came home after eating lunch on campus, since cooking was still not very high on his list of interesting things to do.
Matthew's schedule was a bit more varied, so when Sebastian came back to the apartment, he was surprised to hear the TV on and a rather dismal sounding round of Halo as well. "Matthew?" he asked, opening the door and looking at his roommate. "What happened to you?" was the next question that came out on the heels of the other, since Matthew certainly did not look like he was doing well.

The sound of the door opening made Matthew jump - followed by another round of not-so-happy words. He couldn't help being a little twitchy, but... Of course, it was just Sebby. Who else did you expect it to be, stupid ?
...This made Matthew realize he hadn't thought up a cover story yet. ******** broke a rib." He fell against the couch again, looking like a kicked puppy. "I got rushed in the hospital last night while I was coming home from DCNN. Long story, really. Almost had to call you to ball me out of there. My parents can't know, okay ? They're gonna freak the hell out. Ash knows."
He frowned a bit, finally noticing he was information vomiting without making much sense. "Im on painkillers." As if that explained it. "Never break a rib, Seb. It hurts like an overgrown female dog."

Being greeted by curses wasn't really the sort of thing that happened often to him, and Sebastian looked slightly taken aback. "Wait, hold up," he said, raising a hand to ward off the rambling explanation. "You broke a rib? What were you doing where that would have been a possibility?"
He shook his head, hair falling slightly in front of his eyes. "I don't plan on it. And I won't tell your parents either." Not that he spoke to them much. "Am I going to have to ask Ash what happened, or can you try giving coherency another try?" There was a weak, forced laugh after that comment. Falling down the stairs and breaking an arm, like Penny, was one thing. How did you break a rib while coming home?

At least, not too high on painkillers to not notice his friend was put out. "Sorry. That wasn't aimed at you." That had been aimed at one very, very evil rib that was currently in more pieces than it was supposed to be.
He could play more loopy than he actually was, but that was really just delaying the inevitable. And him going for Ashley was... probably not a good idea, given how she'd looked when she left.
"Coherency is overrated." Apparently this meant he was gonna give it another try, because he started over. "I was coming home, right. It was a little late. I stayed longer because one of the sound systems busted out and Craig needed another pair of hands." Silence, then, as if he was trying to pin his thoughts back into place. "Something jumped me. Im not sure what. Didn't see it very well. Or can't remember." He was frowning, now. In all actuality he was struggling to recall the hazy seconds that preceded his passing out as he cast his attack. That was something Painite had taught him, about acting - trying to get a realistic reaction. "Then I woke up in the hospital. Gently took me. Im not sure how she found me."
It wasn't like mystery monster attacks were rare in Destiny City, right ? ...Had he even told Sebby about Gently ? s**t. Oh dear.

He waved off the apology, not really having taken offense in the first place. He'd been more startled than anything. There were more important matters to deal with, at any rate.
"Says you," he replied absently, more in the way of an automatic reflex than an actual response. He perched himself on the arm of the sofa to better listen to his friend's story. Once Matthew had finished, Sebastian let out a sigh. "It's a wonder anyone stays on this crazy town," he commented. These monster attacks were getting wildly out of hand. There were all too many of his friends and classmates getting attacked, though the brunette had lucked out and never actually seen one. But it did lend the story a definite air of truth, and Sebastian looked inclined to take the story at face value.
"Who's Gently?" he asked, arching an eyebrow and utterly failing to leer suggestively at the invalid in front of him.

"Yeah, seriously." He groaned. Of course, Matthew had his reasons, reasons he wouldn't say. He did not want to see Sebastian dragged into that world - it just... wasn't his place. Maybe some part of him wanted his friend to be able to live the normal life that he could not quite have anymore. Let him do the fighting - Sebastian could be kept out of this.
...So he hadn't. Uh oh. On the plus side, the brunette didn't seem to be questioning his injury any further, which was good. "My friend." Yeap. His friend. Which who things had a tendency to.... elevate. Or sink in the gutter, depending on how you wanted to look at it.

While he had plans to, obviously, leave the area after college, Sebastian usually didn't think about it. He'd grown up here, all of his friends were here, and so were most of his family members. He ran a hand through his hair and sighed once more. It was rapidly becoming clear to him that Destiny City wasn't the same place it had been when he was younger.
Growing up sucked.
"Just a friend?" he asked archly, more than ready to give Matthew a hard time about this.

"Hm-n." Yup. This was the usual Matthew sound for an attempt as dismissal of the conversation at hand, which was perhaps quite telling in itself.
It wasn't so much because Sebastian was asking the question, really, but because if he thought too long about it he wasn't quite sure how to truly answer the question. They just did what happened to be fun for them, at the moment. Sometimes it meant sitting around and playing videogames. Sometimes it meant setting baits while he was doing his best to playfully distract her.
It was hard to say, truly, in what category Gently truly fell in. He liked her, cared about it, that was undeniable, and he would happily rend whoever tried to harm her with nothing beyond his own two hands, should he have the power. Those were the clear parts.
"...She's important to me." He finally said.

He quirked an eyebrow at the rather noncommittal response before shrugging. "Fair enough," he replied. He knew Matthew well enough to know when not to poke for more information.
Another quick glance took in Matthew's apparent exhaustion. "You," he said, pointing a finger at his friend, "Should really go back to sleep, or something." He turned and got off the end of the sofa. "Anything I can get you?" Broken ribs probably took a while to heal, right? Sebastian was fuzzy on medical things, really.

"Yeah... probably." It felt like sleeping was the only thing he did, through, which rankled - but he got off their couch with some hissed cusswords but overall minimal whining.
"Not right now. I'll let you know, 'kay ? Don't worry too much about me. You know Ashley, she's already all over me freaking the hell out." He laughed, but that was cut short when it brought fresh waves of pain. "Seriously, don't worry, Sebby. I'll let ya know if I need anything."
