User ImageIt was night, as it usually was when the dark hyena was out and about. She almost always traveled by starlight. Lilah had never been here before, but the place was familiar to her. The hyena padded slowly over the desolate landscape, wondering at it. It was the place she had seen in her vision, but it seemed unlikely that she would find another hyena here. The land was so poor.

She moved cautiously, warily, keeping an eye out for any guards. If there was indeed a pack here, she did not want to fight with them. People living in such a harsh place must be fierce to defend what little they had. Thankfully the dark coloring that made her stand out in the daylight camouflaged her now. Lilah did not want to be run off before she found the male she had seen in her vision.

Mbezi had left his pack lands. He wished he could leave forever, but his hatred for Tukutu and his offspring oddly enough kept the hyena around. One day, he knew that one day he would take that old man out. Tonight wasn't that night, and he needed to vacate the lands before he did something rash. He wasn't sure just what it was that drove him away tonight, but he wasn't going to argue with himself. A good long trot might do him some good - burn off some excess energy.

Sadly, he hadn't been able to get very far. Too many strange creatures out tonight, and he didn't want to pick a fight that he couldn't win. He returned towards the pack's lands, his pace slowing the closer he got. He didn't want to rush home, no matter what his chaotic mind was telling him.

Movement. Lilah halted, squinting into the darkness. The stranger was moving slowly. He was grey and black, almost as difficult to see at night as Lilah herself. Intrigued, she took a step towards him. Was he the hyena in her vision? She couldn't see him clearly yet, but the colors matched.

Lilah wondered if she should call out to him. He wasn't moving like a guard, all aggression and suspicion, but that didn't mean he was friendly. Still, if he saw her before he heard her, he might think she was trying to sneak up on him. She began walking towards him. "Hello," Lilah called, her voice low and soft.

His ear twitched towards the direction of the voice, but his head stayed where it was. A female voice? And he didn't quite recognize it. Finally he turned his head, but he didn't see anything. Blasted moonlight was pathetic in comparison to the light the sun gave.

"What?" he grunted, taking a few steps towards the voice. It wasn't until she was nearly under his nose that he realized she was about as pitch black as the sky above. Another grunt escaped his mouth as he took a step back from the stranger. He didn't speak another word, but his body language grew a bit more tense from the shock of being snuck up on. He hated to lose, even with something as minimal as this!

The male's voice was surly, but he didn't seem angry. Surly she could handle. Lilah stood still as the male approached. Now that she could see him more clearly, she was almost certain he was the male in her vision.

As exciting as it was to see him in real life, it was bit disappointing when he stepped away from her. Had she upset him after all? She could tell that he was tense. Hopefully not tense enough to attack her. She would have to choose her words carefully.

Unfortunately, Lilah wasn't very eloquent. She hesitated, searching for the right words, words that would calm him. Nothing came to mind. "I found you," she said at last, unable to think of anything else.

His eyebrow arched. "Found?" he repeated in disbelief. Mbezi was, thankfully, fairly kind to females (as long as they weren't related to Tukutu in some way), but it was still strange to hear that from a complete stranger.

"What do you mean, found?" he asked again, taking a short step closer to her. She was strange to look at, and her eyes were oddly mesmerizing. Mbezi was certain that she was not part of the pack - she would stand out too much if she was a member. So who just was she?

He didn't exactly sound thrilled, but he didn't sound angry either. He must belong to the pack that lived nearby, but he didn't seem upset to find a strange hyena near his lands. Lilah relaxed slightly. She always worried about the possibility of being attacked when meeting a new person. She was not strong or fierce or particularly intimidating.

"I saw you," she said. It was all so clear to her, but it was difficult to make people understand. "I saw you in a vision." She wanted to tell him all about it, but she waited to see how he would react.

Instantly Mbezi felt prickly all over. A vision. Those frightened him, but that was mainly because he didn't have that sort of power. He had never seen anything in his dreams, nothing that had come true (sadly).

"A vision...so you are a Seer," he said quietly. They were known of in the pack, but as far as he knew there were none living in the pack at the moment.

He didn't know what to say. He was too frightened to ask what she saw. But..."It must have been something positive. Otherwise you would have not come searching for me."

Lilah nodded, pleased that he knew what visions were. Some people didn't, or didn't believe in them.

Happily, her vision had been positive ... at least, unless he had a mate of some sort. Sharing unpleasant visions was never easy. Some people were angry or scared when she told them what she had seen, attacking her or driving her off. Hopefully Mbezi wouldn't be outraged.

"I saw us together." For how long, or why, she had no way of knowing ... but the stars had shown her that this hyena was to be her mate, for at least a little while.

Ok, that was freaky. Really really freaky. Still, he wondered how true those words were - she was mysterious, and intriguing...and she was nothing like the hyenas in the pack.

"I..." he started to say, but still there were no words to what he felt. He didn't want to upset her, but it was hard to swallow.

"You intrigue me," he finally said. "I will listen to what you've said." He felt like he was throwing himself off of a cliff, but he didn't think he had too much to lose.

It had been a long, long time since Lilah had lived with a pack. She didn't know much about flirting, or ... well ... anything. All she knew was that the stars had shown her this male, and she had found him. She smiled, happy that the strange male agreed to listen to her.

"Let's go, then," she said. Nudging him, she turned and began trotting towards a small den she had passed a while back. It had been abandoned for some time. It would be perfect ... away from any other members of his pack that decided to go for a walk tonight. "My name is Lilah," she added, realizing she had forgotten to introduce herself.

Oh, well. Names didn't matter much.

Since he was already off the cliff, he might as well go along with it all. "Er, Mbezi," he said, feeling a little overwhelmed, and yet... exhilarated.

This was going to be one odd night.
