Life had been going rather well as of late. This was something that Lucian was entirely unused to. But he dared not question or do anything to disturb what peace was coming his way. The voices were more muted now, they seemed to only bother him when he was angry. Now, he could not afford to be angry or to act out.

Sometimes it took everything in him to remain clear minded and level-headed, but it seemed the more he hunted regularly the easier it was to control his hunger and it was easier to keep the voices silent like they belonged. He could now rest peacefully most nights, not having to pace the floor and grit his teeth from screaming.

Today, as he walked through the forest he sought out some small prey to snack on, something unenlightened. It was a sin to kill a creature that was a familiar, one who could speak. He found himself crouching, his ears intent upon some sound. A smell drifted his way, this was no small prey. It was something larger---and feminine. But the smell wasn't repulsive like some others of his kind, but appealing--not in an I'm hungry way. It was more fresh grass, and sunshine rolled into one. It was an odd sensation. Straightening up, he waited to see who was coming.

“Here Bunny bunny, I know you’re out there. I promise I won’t hurt you. Come out, come out where ever you are…” Anaon Nox knew that her words were not going to help her catch any rabbits, it was more likely that she was scaring them farther away with each passing breath, but that did not matter to her, she had already eaten, this was just something to pass the time. If she was truly searching for rabbits she would not be making all the noise she currently was, even though it was still quite enough that a passing soquili would think it was some sort of woodland animal, not a smallish horse. She was not incredibly small, not like a usida or a flutter, but about a good head shorter than her sister and about two heads shorter than her best stallion friend.

Anaon was not paying attention to where her hooves where taking her, it had been a while since she roamed the woods alone and did not have to confess to anyone her whereabouts. It was freeing. A feeling that she was not alone sent shivers down her spine, this sensation only occurred if the being was bigger than she (though that was most normal sized soquili). With cautious steps Anaon turned around the bend to come face to face with the other creature; she stopped short, the source of the strange sensation was an extremely pale stallion with a brown auburny mane. He certainly was not what she expected, “Uh, hello there, did not mean to intrude,” though in all actuality, she did; being too curious often led her into sticky situations, in which her mischievous ways were often used to remove herself from the complications she caused.

Lucian watched the mare appear. Her skin was a dark olive shade, and her eyes were a glowing green. She was ornate, but not showy. Her wings were slightly extended, he wondered absently, if she feared him. He breathed in deeply, not quite sure what to say. He wasn't exactly adept at talking to others. "You're...you're fine. I mean," he cleared his throat.

She was about his size, maybe a tad taller. She didn't seem perturbed by him even though his knife was clearly out. "I--I won't hurt you." He looked at her still staring. She was completely different than anything he'd ever experienced. He sniffed the air again, how could it be that she smelled so delightful? He wondered, if she drank blood too? Karloff had said that other blood drinkers smelled more appealing to him. Maybe it was true for him too? What did she feel about flesh?

He cleared his throat again, trying not to startle her since he wanted to know about her. His curiousity was peaked, "I'm Lucian."

She tilted her head to the side and smiled at the stallion standing before her, he was fascinating to her and she could not help but wonder how he welded that sharp looking knife, and found herself hoping he could teach her. His words washed over her, the thought had never even crossed her mind that he would hurt her, “Don’t worry; it never even crossed that you would harm me, that kinda seems presumptuous doesn’t it?” She gave a wry smile to the stallion and took in a deep breath. His sent reminded her of home, of her family, which was surprising since she was far away from where they currently made camp. Why did he smell so familiar, so pleasant?

Anaon could not help but notice that he was being overly cautious, perhaps that is how one should act when in the company of a stranger, but Anaon never paid attention to the proper etiquette of interacting with strangers, “Nice to meet you Lucian, I’m Anaon Nox, but you may call me Ana.”

"Anaon Nox," he liked the taste of it on his tongue. "Ana, I like that." He felt his guard drop a little, he couldn't help it. She was so nice and friendly, open. He wasn't used to that. Most were guarded or wary about him. Karloff had always told him that it was partly how he acted. Treat others kindly and they would treat you kindly, but it had never been that easy for him. Kindness for the most part, had to be learned, so why was it so easy with her?

It felt natural so far. "You should be more careful," he gently chided stepping closer. "I could have harmed you. That would have been horrid." He took another deep breath, "You smell---wonderful."

She could not help but smile at his words, to her it seemed as if he was new to friendly conversation, each of his words were chosen carefully and he appeared overly cautious. Bright green eyes watched the stallion as he slowly made his way closer to her, her ears twitch at his words, “I am careful… well most times. And it would have been horrid, but I doubt it would have happened, I have certain skills hiding up my sleeves so to speak.” She knew her appearance often made other’s assume that she could not stand her own, and she often used that to her advantage, but today she felt as if she should be as honest as possible to the stallion standing in front of her.

His next words took her off guard, “Smell wonderful as in a fresh tasty rabbit or wonderful as in something not relating to a food source?” Did he know that he smelt just as wonderful to her? What was the cause of this strange phenomenon?

He couldn't help but smile, one of the few rare smiles that were genuine. Then her later words caught him, and he felt his body freeze. "Rabbit?" He couldn't believe what she'd just said. "You eat rabbit?" He tilted his head to look at her. "I do too. All kinds of small creatures. You smell like---fresh. Like the way a fresh rabbit meat smells, or grass after rain, or blood right when your teeth puncture the flesh and it drips down your throat. Delicious, refreshing, exhilarating."

He said it all in one breath. He wasn't use to talking to someone, or really talking about how he really felt. Seldom was the opportunity could he tell the truth of himself, and not cleverly disguise it to be less disgusting to others. "You...you're like me aren't you?" It came out in a small whisper.

She was not thinking when she said the word rabbit, perhaps it was because just a few moments before she was half heartedly hunting for one, but now she was glad she uttered the word, for it seemed to open Lucian up a bit more. “Yes, they are quite delicious,” Anaon shrugs, which cause her wings to lift up in the air and then move back down, “I eat whatever I can get, so it definitely ranges on location.” His words sent a shiver down her spin, in a good way, as she pictured the scent, “I never knew I smelt that way…” she looks away from the stallion and then back to him, “You know, you smell the same way to me… do you know why that is?”

His voice barely came out in a whisper, and it took a second for the tiny mare to process the sentence, “Like you? What do you mean? That both of us are different from others around us because we eat meat? Or we both smell amazing to each other?”

Lucian tilted his head, "Can't it be both?" The voices were so blissfully quiet, as they had been lately. But the world seemed silent now, as if for the first time I was experiencing it. Was this what it felt like to be normal? I had never truly experienced that before.

"We're the same." I couldn't believe I could say that, even Karloff was not the exact same as I. "We crave the same things, and we can sense that in each other. The hunger, and the thirst--like everything that's good." I was shocked to find myself saying that. I had never expected to feel any emotions--any anything. Karloff had explained to me that one day, I would feel them when the time was right. But so far---I had felt nothing, not really. Just small instances and moment, but they were fleeting. But this felt more vibrant and real than anything.

Anaon considered his question and the mare gave a slight nod, “Yes, I believe it must be so. You know, it is interesting to find someone like myself who I am not related to… we’re not related right?” She tilts her head to the side, could she have found someone that was like her that was not related to her by blood? Her green eyes looked over him, yep, he definitely was not related, she would have seen the family resemblance.

“Ah, so that explains why we are appealing to each other… it’s the cravings we have, the very thing that makes us so similar. The feel of the hunt, the smell of the prey beneath your hooves… it’s like those feelings all built into one entity,” Anaon smiled at Lucian, for just meeting the stallion she could already sense that there was something about him that was familiar, but could not place the reason why.

Lucian couldn't help himself, he approach her closer. Had he been more experience with other stallions, he would have realized he was intruding on her space--he leaned close to her neck, smelling her skin to confirm the theory. He was almost salivating as he backed up a step but still closer than he was to begin with.

"You smell, amazing." He considered her question before, "I don't think you are. Karloff and Ailbhe raised me. I don't know who my real mother is. I know nothing about my father." He tilted his head as he breathed her in again, "I think you smell wonderful, because you're everything I want, everything I crave and desire." He blushed realizing how that sounded.

Anaon did not have any personal space issues, for if she did she would be a hypocrite, since she usually gets into ones bubble of personal space when meeting new people. When he leaned down to smell her neck, she caught a stronger whiff of his scent as well, it was shocking that she was not salivating yet and her stomach growing in anticipation, then again she had a big breakfast. She wanted to laugh, but held it in, knowing that it would probably ruin the closeness that was starting; it was just so surreal, most would be offended by the interaction, but to Anaon it felt as if she found a kindred spirit.

A slight blush formed on her countenance, “Thank you, and the same goes for you… again.” The tiny mare was surprised with herself, she had never acted this way before, even when she was a filly, it was kind of refreshing. “Hmm, well there is a good chance we are not related because I have met most of everyone in my family line and none of them besides my siblings are meat eaters. You never met your biological parents? That must have been hard…” In the back of Anaon’s mind she remembered how she has never met her father or her lost sibling, it was like a piece of her was missing, but her mother tried so hard to fill that gap that Ana tired as hard as she possibly could to keep her mother from anymore harm.

Anaon smiled, “You sure know how to win a lady over with your words. Perhaps that is the same for me, you smell superb because you embody all that I desire?” The feelings in Anaon were complex and she was having difficulty sorting them out.

Lucian didn't feel awkward which was a change. He'd always felt awkward about---well everything. They way he looked, the way he felt, what he craved, the voices--which had been mostly silent as of late, and most of all that he frightened or scared those around him. Karloff had accepted him, had loved him from the very moment he got him. His voice had been the first one he remembered that came from outside of him, from outside of his basket. Then Ailbhe's voice. How much he loved them both, and how much they cared for him.

He wondered how Ailbhe could accept his and Karloff's appetite since she did not crave or eat as they did? Karloff had told him simply that it was "love." It by-passed all things, understood everything, and loved your imperfections as much as your "perfections."

He watched her slight blush, and he felt his heart beat faster for the first time in this way. He nodded his head, not knowing what to say exactly. That he had said something sweet from his honesty was assuring. For a moment, he thought how to tell her that he really liked her that he liked having her around despite not knowing her for long. He said the one thing he knew she would understand.

Tossing his hair to the side, he bore his neck to her. "I won't hold you back from what you crave. I want to--share with you."

Confusion rippled through the mare at the stallion’s actions; he bore his neck to her and offered her an invitation of what she had not until that second knew she craved. It was all so confusing, but at the same time so very tempting. The mare could feel herself being pulled toward the stallion, toward the meaty part of his neck and she took in a deep breath; his sweet delicious scent filling her senses. He was offering something that she had never before experienced, yes she has had the blood of her prey, of tiny bunnies, but they were not similar to her. What would the sensation be like, to feel the sensation of his warm blood filling her system? Would it be similar to the thrill she feels upon the hunt or would it be something much more… exciting?

Her bright green eyes looked from his neck to the distance, she really did not want to hurt him and there would be no way to stop the blood flow if she did take a bite, but she felt that if she did not accept his invitation, it would be a set back to the relationship. With a sigh she gave into temptation, there was probably a bed of moss around here somewhere that could stop the bleeding when needed; before she could change her mind she placed her sharp teeth against his neck and bit. The wave that crashed over her was like nothing she had ever experienced before, it was as if she was riding upon wave upon wave of different emotions, it was overwhelming but satisfying at the same time. She removed herself from the stallion’s neck and softly licked the wounds, “I’m sorry if I hurt you… I am sure we can find some moss to stop the flow of blood.” A thought crossed her mind, since he shared apart of himself with her, she felt she must do the same, with a smile she tilted her head and spoke his exact words he told her moments before, “I won't hold you back from what you crave as well. I want to share it with you.”

He felt her teeth sink deep into his neck, felt his blood leak out into her mouth. He could almost feel her hunger burning into him, or rather her thirst as she pulled the blood from him. Was this what prey felt like when it happened? It wasn't bad, in fact, it was pleasant. There was a heady sensation that surprised him.

He felt her pull away, worried that maybe his blood wouldn't stop. He wasn't concerned though. "I'm okay." He could feel the blood lessening already. She looked intent, happy. Was she pleased? He found himself wondering if his blood tasted as good as it hers had smelled. "It didn't hurt at all." It was true.

He saw her bare his neck to her, heard her repeat his words and he couldn't help but smile. Hesitating for a moment, he licked the spot on his neck before biting into it easily. He felt the warm fluid gush into his mouth. It was more delicious than he had imagined--more delicious even then it smelled. He felt as though he could drink forever and it never be enough, but that a small taste could last him a lifetime. He broke away from her, and licked her neck gently, then gently rubbed his nose on her neck. He felt overwhelmed at that moment, but at the same time like finally everything made perfect sense.
