Whether it was because the candidate master figured that a Beastcrafter apprentice was better suited to doing general chores up with the weyr’s herders every once in a while or if she’d just happened to get lucky, Breanna seemed to land the chore of tending to the herdbeast quite often.
During winter, when the rain and the wind pounded mercilessly on them all, she wasn’t fussed on the job, but, today when the sky was clear and the day a pleasant sort of warm, she couldn’t be happier.
He dragons themselves seemed to have a routine when it came to feeding on the herdbeasts, and, while she herself had no idea about when those times were, she seemed to always land the chores when there was nary a dragon in the sky. Probably one of the few downsides to the chore itself.
As it was, since the dragons, and, quite frankly the weyrfolk used the herdbeast as…w ell… a food source, one of her many duties when she was up there was to move through the herd and watch for any signs of sickness. That part of healing at least – she knew how to do well. She just couldn’t do much about it when she found out one of them was indeed ill.
So, with a whistle and a hop in her step, she started forth, running gentle hands along each beast she passed to search for any severe injuries that may become serious infections, and any signs of disease or illness.
