User ImageShalar tossed his mighty mane around him, the ridiculous curls and flowers that his two sisters always insisted upon where still there... and since he really would do anything for them he continued to 'prepare' his hair in the same fashion eventhough he saw them less and less. They had lives of their own now, mates and friends outside of the family unit. It was something Shalar didn't really have, he found interacting with his family hard enough let alone a stranger....

....and even if he had been more social gifted he knew in his heart he would be keeping his distance right now. The 'darkness' that had been within him since birth seemed to be growing, the voices more demanding that he slaughter those who are evil and do wrong against him. He shivered, scared that he may harm something innocent, make a mistake....

For as long as Shalar could remember, he had always imagined himself as a protector; and of course, had taken his role as protector to his mother and sisters seriously. But he didn't seem needed now. Didn't seem to be wanted in the same ways as before. Stuck in the past while the world continued to move forward.

That was probably the reason he went for longer and longer walks, often spending days at a time away from the spot his family called home.

Oh gods!Ohgods!OHGODS! That was all Kaia could think as her body pushed it's self forward as fast as her gangly legs could take her. In her own silent way she was thankful now for the mud caking onto her cream and red hooves it was the only think hiding now the dark stains of what dark events had happened. Unlike the last time where she was running this hard to get away from a evil purewalker now the hapini was running from something she could not escape from: Herself.

It had been such a happy day too! After months of work the young teenager had finished her biggest project yet with the twig and vine built structure that she had hoped would prove her theory that the power of water could be used to power something such as a human cart by making the wheels turn without the help of anything else! The amount of doors that could be opened if Kaia was right amazed her. It pushed her and gave her the will to her work through the long nights with little sleep just to get it finished.

It was perfect! The day had been perfect, well, until they stumbled upon her. They being her childhood bullies, it had seemed that why she left behind mean spirited children back at the flock, she had only ran head first into more after leaving it to find her father with her sister. However these bullies had more rocks to through at her glass house more than ever. She was no longer under the feared protection of her mother, why her sister tried her best to fill the role the other harpini could only to do much. In the times when Kaia was alone she was fair game. It was at those times everything they could use against her was thrown into her face. Did they hate her? Yes, Kaia thought they did at least. She was different in more than one ways with her not being social, taking more interest in studying other cultures and science than cooing over boys, most of all she was something that was rarely seen out side of the seemingly hated flock. All small things with the big picture but all things that when faced with the judgment of children set you apart.

This being why the girls thought just when their pack came upon Kaia with her strange experiment to destroy her hard work. With two fillies holding Kaia back the rest got to work kicking her main part of structure back into the river to be carried off by the rushing rapids.

After that Kaia could not remember much, her memory of what she did after was blocked by her brain so she would not go into a mental breakdown. All she could bring up was a flash of red coming over her vision as the taunting laughter of the girls droned out as one thought took over her mind: Make them pay.

Her worst fears came true when her senses came back to her. The fear of her being pushed too far that she could no longer control the horrible temper that was locked inside of her most of the time. Her family had nicknamed it "The inner harpy" since truly it was what the perfect harpy warrior should act like. Ruthless, judgmental, hot headed, and calculating in any punishment that it felt it need to dish out. Hell even Kaia feared herself when she was like this and did not know how far she would be willing to go why in that state. Blood was no doubt spilt. How much of it was spilled onto the ground with this episode Kaia could not say. All she did know that is was the worst episode that she had dealt so far, the bullies that had taunted her for so long laid before her broken and mangled. Each set in some sort of pool of the wet stuff Kaia had come to hate. The taste of metallic lingered in her mouth, her already red hooves now stained. The guilt set it, heavy amounts of pure guilt with a dash of regret and fear. Feeling salty tears building up in her eyes the harpini did the only thing she knew how to do in a spot like this. So she ran. She ran to get help, she ran to get away from the sight, most of all she was running from the knowledge that she had played into making her worst fears true.

It started out as such a lovely day too.

Shalar was alone one moment and then... there was a florish of hooves slapping on the dirt and a blurr running past him. He stopped for a moment, blinking with uncertainty.... had that really happened? He turned to see what appeared to be a mare running away, now that he saw her the pace seemed to be slower than moments earlier, but surprise had a knack for playing havoc with your sences. The problem was that the mare seemed panicked, the movement of her gait not at all as smooth as someone who was thinking straight.... it may have been wrong, but Shalar found himself jumping to a worst case scenerio. She was in trouble.

Every instinct in his body bubbled up and before he even had time to truely think about it he was racing after her. Wings tucked as tightly into his sides as he could manage in the hope that he would not be slowed down by them.

It took a while for him to get anywhere near her, and that was probably aided by the fact that her pace seemed to be slowing down -likely with exhuastion- he knew that his presence would likely spook her, but he couldn't simply stand by and allow someone to be in danger while he did nothing. Even if the dark voices in his head whispered terrible things to him Shalar did not want to be terrible. No, he wanted to be good, to be seen as a strong protector.... not a ruthless and merciless killer.

Every now and then he looked behind them, trying to make sure that nothing was following them. So far everything seemed quite and skill -perhaps a little too much. Still, there seemed to be no immediate danger. Deciding it was as safe as he could hope for he called out to the running mare before him. "Wait up m'lady." He used the term out of respect since he didn't know her name.

Kaia didn't even notice the large winged stallion who in most cases would pop right out of the muddy brush as she flew past him in her frenzy. Today ugh of all the days she caught the eye of someone decent it had to be today! This was clearly the first punishment from the gods for her actions against the snooty girls. Granted Kaia at the moment couldn't say that she didn't deserve it, but her mind was racing fast at the moment that anything besides running seemed horrid.

A jinx must have been put on her for when Sharlar spoke up for the first time why his words were respectful knowing that now someone had noticed her sent her reeling. Literally. Her hooves jumbled in their frantic run sliding and twisting against the slippery ground. Kaia had small moments in her goofy dance with her own feet which were hell bent on making her fall where for a second she thought that there was a shimmer of hope left that would allow her not to make an utter fool of herself. Sadly, her wishes were denied and before she knew it her body was laying in the mud with her hooves still kicking over her head.

With a heavy groan cause from not only the dull pain in her back, also for the fact that she was now staring up at a very shocked stallion. The harpini couldn't do anything else but flop her muddy head wings and ears flat against her head. The words that she dearly wanted to say were stuck in her throat, the messy speech she had worked up to explain and apologize for making him run all this way after her was lost as soon as she nervously gulped. All she could mutter out for now was:"H-hello t-there."

Shalar kept an even pace after the mare, and at times she seemed to get ahead of him, especially when she seemed to figure that someone was following him.... yet Shalar was a firm believer that slow and steady was better than rushing in hoof-first.

Of course it was only short time before the whole situation changed to stand on it's head. He left out a groan of sympathy as the mare tripped over what appeared to be her own hooves and ended up flat on her arse, with her hooves up in the air. Shalar wasn't exactly the most social of creatures, in fact he would rather avoid others if it wasn't for his protective instinct.

The way she reacted seemed..... familar, and it took a shake of his head to dislogde his thoughts and focus on the situtaion before him. "Hello," he said, coming to a stand infront of her looking down at the upside down mare and seeing no way to assist her up. "Are you.... ok?" He asked with lazy interest and a raised eyebrow. Shalar couldn't help but feel the need to assist the mare, after the distress she seemed in early it seemed he had only doubled her distress.... and for that he felt guilty. Grumbling softly he added, "Sorry."

As her body turned to flop her one side her head lifted up. If she was going to be stuck in the mud like this she was at least going to do it with some style! A large blush formed under her creamy fur, causing a soft pink glow to form on her cheeks that made such pretty sparkly tear trails down her cheeks. Kaia had never been a very outgoing girl, the role of dorky wallflower was just fine for her. Though her body had grown and taken the form of someone with the abilities to charm a crowd with ease and grace as it laid there misshapen and covered in mud her true reserved nature came out as her body lost it's natural sense of grace. Her head wings fluttered at times quickly, sending mud flying down onto not only Kaia but the large stallion.

"O-oh I'm...f-fine!" Her words stumbled and cracked, coming out rush in her haste to get up. She wanted to get away from this stallion, she wanted to get away from everything at the moment. Just to be able to go back to her small cave home so there she could recoup her wits enough to be able to figure out just how she was gonna fix this mess.

Her head lowered when she finally got up as she took small baby steps back, even if her dark red and stained hooves kept slipping in the stirred up mud. "P-please-e don't-t be s-sorry..." She didn't want him to feel sorry, sorry people would try to make things up to her. Which is the last thing she wanted at the moment. Plus honestly what did he do wrong? Nothing. She was the one who was sorry, in fact those were her next words coming from her mouth. "I-I'm so s-sorry!" It wasn't normal for her to stutter this badly. Mainly it was the fact that her brain was a pile of mush at the moment and she was nervous caused for her to talk like this, if she was in her normal state the young harpini would no doubt be apologizing for stuttering too much. "I-I'll..." Kaia paused before shaking her head loosely. I'll? No, that wasn't right. She needed to make sure he wouldn't think that she wasn't busy and make the time for a little chat to explain why a mare like herself was running at such insane speeds. "I...need to b-be goin-ning!" With that Kaia turned to head off, hoping that this large white...flutter would be able to find something else to bind his time with.
