So as I understand it, they're holding one tournament in each region, and then the winners of every region will represent that one in another tourney bracket?

Correct, there are North American, European, Latin American and Korean invitationals where eight of the top players in each region compete. The winner earns $10,000, the second place earns $5,000. Both the winner and the runner-up are then invited to the Global Battle.net Invitational to compete for $50,000.
