It had been a hell of a week, not that Taryn would expect anything less from Amityville Academy. She'd loaded herself up with classes and had her nose stuck in her homework on her way to the cafeteria. She had forgotten dinner again and was hoping that there was still something left to snack on. With her face turned down to her textbook, though, she couldn't quite see where she was headed. When studies were concerned, there was nobody else in the hallway.
Unfortunately, reality disagreed.

Oh yes reality most definately disagreed. It disagreed in the form of a tall feline ghoul reading the menu for the next day.
Nefertari was new to the school, having come to learn and spend time with her cousin, and needed to know feeding times. Food was important to the athletic feline, she needed her strength on the field and needed the calories to stay beautiful! Slowly she glanced over the menu when she suddenly heard the sound of hooves. That's odd, who else would be around the cafeteria so late?
The winged sphinx turned to see who was here so late when said person decided to bump square into her chest. Tari looked down at her linin covered chest at the ghoul who had bumped into her. She had a book in her hand, mostly likely had been reading while walking. She was lucky the ghoul hadn't hit her beaded collar, that might have been more painful.
"Well hello there," she chuckled, "Funny bumping into someone here."

Taryn jumped as soon as she felt her body connect. She'd hoped it had been a wall or a desk, but yielding flesh meant she had hit a person. Oh, Jack--! The chimera ghoul looked up in terror, expecting a shout and maybe a slap, her eyes wide. None came, but her body stayed tensed and prepared to bolt if she needed to; when the other ghoul spoke casually it was too much of a shock to make sense immediately. Abigail reacted before her host did, raising up and peering over Taryn's shoulder at the new ghoul. It was another second or two before Taryn reacted herself.
"Um!" It wasn't a very intelligent response, but at least they weren't standing in awkward silence. Taryn hugged herself, book clutched to her belly, and shrank back.

Nefertari giggled as the ghoul jumpped back as she made contact. It was cute. She looked all nervous, as if Tari was waiting there to pounce her. Well maybe some other time but not right now. Suddenly she blinked when the ghoul's tail...er.....was that a tail? No it was a snake! She had seen enough to know them. Hooves? Snake tail? She was a chimera! Well that was cool! At least she was a fellow monster. Tari had been worried about meeting more than monsters and undead.
"Well nice to meet a fellow monster. I'm Nefertari, new student. Just call me Tari. And you are?" she smiled down at her, fangs flashing.

Taryn's jaw worked a moment and she looked down at the hand offered. It was only polite to take it, right? She gave a firm, father-taught handshake and managed a shy smile.
"I'm Taryn. I haven't been here very long either." Nobody big and burly had hauled off to hit her yet, either. That was nice. This girl was a monster? Not too surprising considering her ears and tail, and comforting considering the amount of demons and reapers she had met thus far.

Tari smiled at the firm handshake, she liked someone with confidance. At least thats what she thought people had when they could at least shake her hand with some strength. Though this ghoul hardly looked like the rough and rumble type. Book, glasses, nervous = Nerd. But then again Tari was quite intelligent, as her race was well known to be. She was also glad the girl was as new as her.
"Well its good to have a fellow kitten around," she pushed a lock of black hair over her shoulder, "I was just looking at the menu. Not sure what kind of prey they have here. What are you doing here?"
She smiled at the snake and waved to it. She liked snakes, they were considered great creatures in her homeland.

Kitten? Prey?! Taryn was so thrown by the verbiage that she opened her mouth and found no sound. Oops. She shook her head to clear it.
"It all depends on what Ginger makes," she explained finally, "There's usually something edible. ...usually." Finally the chimera's arms unfolded and she peered toward the food remaining. ...was that moving?! She could always go back upstairs and make something in her room...
With her attention turned away, Taryn's arms unfolded and she stood normally, albeit with her book clutched to her chest. She gave Tari an honest, less shy smile.

Tari looked over at the food and was not impressed. Granted she liked food on the go but maybe not that much right now. She sniffed a bit, her ear flicking and her tail swishing back and forth.
"Not exactly appitizing this late at night. Any place else we can get some nibbles?" she looked to the ghoul. Granted she hadn't been there probubly much longer than her but maybe she had at least heard of somewhere they could eat. If nothing else Tari would sniff something out.
The ghoul was cute for a nerd. She could definately do nice with wearing smaller shirts to show off her waist and something to magnify those long legs. She may have been shorter than Tari but she could still have nice looking legs. She smiled back to the ghoul, just as honestly but with undoubted confidance.

Taryn shrugged at Tari and then turned her attention back to the offered food. Yeah, no. She was worried about the 'we', though. Who said that she and this stranger were going to eat together? There was a moment in which the ghoul considered inviting the sphinx to her room, but why should she have to cook?!
"If it wasn't for curfew I'd say 'go out'," she said finally, but shook her head. It wasn't safe to be out at night anyway, let alone sadly wandering about for food. Having no answer, Taryn turned up to Tari again, as if the taller ghoul would have an idea.

"Yeah, curfew will getcha every time," she grinned a bit. More than once she had gotten in trouble for going out after dark but in the desert that could be far more dangerous. No road signs and no landmarks; and your tracks could easily be erased by a good wind. She stretched her wings a bit then began to think. "Well I've got some snacks at least in my dorm. I know I've got some bread and basbousa. Also some egyptian tea," she looked to the ghoul to see if any of that interested her. She was always willing to be social and missed her pride back home. At least Nubi, her mummy friend, promised to write to her every week and demanded to hear what kind of classes she was taking.

Taryn made a bit of a face and itched her cheek. This ghoul was pretty much a stranger, friendliness aside, and the chimera wasn't certain that she wanted to go into any stranger's dorm. Even Joachim had hovered outside her room when he'd visited her before prom. Then again, it would be a good idea to start making some friends.
"Um... well, we could grab some snacks and regroup? Like a picnic, but... more depressing." What a sad little event it would be! Snacks and tea... she'd made a small cake earlier in the week, maybe there were some pieces left if she looked hard enough.

Nefertari smirked. The ghoul seemed quite uncomfortable going to random people's dorms. While that could be a good thing they were living in the same place, not like they wouldn't run into each other again. Well she could put up with it for awhile. She nodded to the ghoul.
"Alright, why don't we meet in the Monster Dorm Lobby for our little outing? That way it's not as far a walk for either of us," she was already walking towards the exit of the cafeteria. She wanted to stretch her wings a bit so she was going to fly back to the dorms. Her wings were large and feathery, very soft looking considering how much time she spent keeping them clean. Maybe it was just the cat in her but she couldn't stand to be dirty unless she was playing sports.

Taryn nodded, giving a hopeful little smile and watching Tari go once they had exited the building. Oh no! The chimera took off at a sprint, clip-clopping her way back to the monster dorms and up the stairs rather than with the elevator. She hadn't counted on a winged companion!
Once in her room, Taryn shuffled around in her minifridge and her cabinets. Really they were terribly bare for the amount of cooking she had planned to do at the academy. That would have to change. She arrived back in the lobby with fruit juice and some slightly chilled strawburies. She arrived promptly, feeling much less shy with a buffer of food between her and the other ghoul.

Tari flew lazily back to the dorms. She knew her walking companion would take longer to get there and she enjoyed the night air. She still missed the desert, long stretches of sand with dotted oasis making meetings far more fun. She landed on the roof and made her way down to her own dorm. She made some tea, dark and rich; then she got out the basbousa she had brought as well as some flat egyptian style bread. It was the main food of her area as well as meat.
The ghoul made her way down to the lobby, smiling as she saw the other waiting for her. It would be a nice evening snack. Maybe they could talk more with something in common to keep them occupied....like food! She liked the look of the strawberries, something rare in her area. They were considered a delicacy as they so rarely grew in the arid climate.
"Well, lets get this late night picnic underway!" she set her own food down, pouring a glass of tea for herself. "So where are you from Taryn?"

Taryn smiled broadly when Tari appeared again and gave her a polite nod. Alright, she could do this. She could be social at a weird time of day. Vampires did it all the time! As soon as the sphinx ghoul sat down, Taryn began to divvy up the strawburies and poured a couple of paper cups of juice. She eyed the cakes Tari has bought and through to herself... what had she called them? Bubous? No... uh. Bas-bosa, right? Strange, they looked very familiar...
"Me? Oh," Taryn 'responded', sliding Tari a glass, "Halloween? I mean, aren't we all? The suburbs, for me, but my parents say we're Greek. How about you?" Taryn was determined to some day earn her pass to the human world and actually see Greece.
