Xerxes was so far beyond the borders of the Outlands that nothing look even remotely familiar, sometimes he was sure the sun wasn't even the same. He didn't particularly care for it, but he hadn't particularly cared for the dry, ugly lands he came from, either. He wasn't here to sight-see, no, he was trying to find Bunikee. He was angry she had left and was suppressing the real reason it was enough to send him off looking for her- he missed her.

He didn't have to admit that, though.

Grumbling to himself about how it seemed to take forever to get here and how he was exactly no closer to finding Buni than when he left, Xerxes didn't realize he had accidentally cut through the edge of a pride's lands.

Dath was on patrol, his skin crawling as he did so. It was still a strange land with a strange religion, but he would never speak ill of this place. It was where Momo wanted to live, and as it was a safe place, he did not want to disregard her wishes. He would protect his place, as was his duty, but it was also to keep these lands as safe as they were now for Momo's sake.

That crazy lioness, he was thinking about how brainless she could be at times, but then he was distracted by a bright red lion walking far, far too close for comfort.

"Halt!"

Far too distracted by his own bad mood, Xerxes didn't notice Dath until it was too late and he had been yelled at. He stumbled to a stop, cringing when he realized this had to mean he had wandered into a pride's lands. He used to be a guard, he knew what it meant.. unless some rogues were odd and liked to act like they had control over any of the rogue lands..

He looked over to the source of the voice, frowning. He couldn't see very clearly who it was and he wasn't keen on chatting so he stayed silent as he waited to be approached, expecting a scolding. Not that is mattered, he'd apologize and be on his way.

Dath narrowed his eyes at the male. He didn't look too much younger than Dath, if at all. Well, that was intriguing but it didn't explain why he was crossing the pride's borders. Did he not notice them? Or did he not care?

"What is your business near these pridal lands?" Dath asked calmly. It would do no good to jump on every trespasser. That would get him in more trouble than he cared to think about, really.

Plus Momo would probably not be pleased with him, and that was scarier than the Head Guard in his eyes.

"Wasn't aware I was near any pridal lands," he shot back, almost indifferently. Now that he was talking to Dath and was at a reasonable distance, Xerxes had an odd feeling he had been here before.. or maybe that he had seen him before. But he couldn't quite figure it out. It wasn't like he ever really had paid much attention to the Outlands outside of his immediate family and his friends.. if he had, maybe it would have been easier for him to realize why the guard who approached him was so familiar.

Unfortunately for Xerxes, he wasn't very good at hiding his surprise and confusion as he stared at Dath, trying to figure it out.

Between what the lion had said and his reaction, Dath didn't believe in his words. If he didn't care, then why was he looking so...puzzled? Feeling impatient, and almost wanting to pick a fight, Dath bit the harshed part of his metaphorical tongue back.

"Now you are," he replied. "No need to be confused any longer."

Despite his attitude, Xerxes didn't actually care how others spoke to him, he was far from offended or upset by the guard calling him out for looking confused. But he did let it stop him from continuing to stare dumbly, a frown returning to his face.

"Have we met before?" he asked, curiosity getting the better of him. Everything was so mind-bogglingly different out here, why was this cranky lion so familiar?

Dath lifted up his right foreleg. "Matters on if you've seen this mark before," he answered almost jokingly. It was pretty damn unique, and he acted like he was proud of it.

"This is not my native home, so it is possible," he added on, deciding to be a little nice to this poor lost rogue. As long as he kept moving once this conversation was over.

Xerxes wasted no time trying to hide the fact he was staring again when Dath drew attention to the marking on his leg. He hadn't sounded serious but it was still worth considering. But it wasn't until Dath mentioned that this was not his original home that Xerxes was finally able to piece it together- at least, piece together the only real possibility.

"You're from the Outlands," he said, finally looking back up. He didn't really have in his mind where from there he had to know him but he finally had caught up to the fact there was nowhere else that he knew anybody from.

Dath's ears settled against his skull. "That place," he grumbled. It was strange running into another from there, a pride that was not in the best part of mind for Dath. He hadn't much liked it there, but went there for Momo. Now, at least he felt that this pride was a little better for her than that place.

"Strange running into you here. Moving on?" he asked.

Unlike Dath and Momo, Xerxes had not really left because he was dissatisfied with the pride itself-- though now that he was out and about, he didn't particularly care if he went back. This was far more interesting and he had far more control over himself and his life.

"Very strange," he agreed, "And you could say that, nothing in particular was keeping me there anymore."

He would hesitate to admit why he had left to a stranger, but something about someone from the Outlands made him even more reluctant. Unfortunately, his words weren't carefully considered.

Dath didn't feel like adding anything on, or asking questions. It wasn't really needed. They had moved on for their reasons, and he had for his. Dath and Momo would never return, and there was nothing there to bring them back anyway.

"I understand," he replied. "Sounds like a factor for why my mate and I left."

He felt a little strange about this other lion, but he didn't seem to want to stay anyway. "We found our new place in the world, I hope you find yours," he said stoically, the serious lion showing just a touch of compassion.

"Thanks," he muttered, though he was doubting it would be easy to find what he was looking for.. though if he wanted to be optimistic, he could think about how unlikely it was he found someone from the Outlands that he wasn't actively trying to find. There had to be better odds for finding Bunikee, right?

"Haven't happened to see anybody else from the Outlands about, have you?"

Worth a shot, wasn't it?

Dath shook his head. "No, I haven't." He wondered if the red lion was looking for someone, but it wouldn't really do much to ask. Dath hadn't seen anyone remotely familiar since coming here, and he would be zero help even if he knew who the male wanted.

"Alright," he said. His tone was indifferent but he was slightly disappointed, someone who might vaguely know Buni already would have an easier time remembering her if they had seen her around.. right?

"I'll be on my way, then," he added after a short pause, "And let you get back to whatever you were doing. I'll try to stay away from the borders."
