It had been a couple days since Irmuska had said goodbye to her father and his pack. She was now happily trapsingly along behind her mother; they were heading to her mother's pack. Uncle Niffie would be there, and she couldn't wait to meet him. It'd be awhile yet before that happened if she understood right. 'Til then, Irmuska would be on her best behavior. The pup was doing her best to keep up with her mother, though her paws were certainly tired. Irmuska wasn't going to complain about her paws. She was a trooper and she could do it! Her tummy also informed her that it was well past time to eat. Irmuska tried to hide the growling of her stomach by humming.

After the few days of traveling and leaving the black brother wolves lands, Annika occassionally looked behind her to see if her daughter was keeping up and not looking too tired. Of course she was going to stop so they could eat since her own stomach was growling at her softly. Not only that she heard Irmuska's stomach growl as well, which she had noticed because of the humming.
Smiling slightly she slowed down to a stop and looked back at Irmuska. "What say we take a nice break and hunt?" She asked her daughter knowing that she was a strong little lady for keeping up this long. "We can rest here for the night and pick up in the morning if the sources here prove difficult to find."

Irmuska broke off humming and gave a happy yip. "Yay! We're going hunting!" She spun in a quick circle before looking back up at Annika. "Wha're we going to have? How will you hunt in strange lands?" The pup looked around at the landscape around them as if seeing it for the first time.
I wonder what's out there? It would be exciting to see if my paws didn't hurt so much. She gave a rueful sigh as she looked down at her paws. Maybe a nap was in order. Yes a nap while mother hunted. Her ears perked forward as she looked up at her mama. "If it'd be ok, mama, I'd like to go take a nap I think." She grinned sheepishly.

Smiling at her daughter, Annika walked over to her little one and nipped at her ear playfully. "Of course dear. We can have whatever this place is willing to offer us." Looking around them the mother wolf searched for a safe little spot under thick brush with rocks to give a sturdy surrounding. "Come nap here alright Irmuska? I'll go around marking us a temporary territory to ward off others from this place while I go hunting. I won't be too far off." Hopefully the heavens blessed them with a deer or a nice big juice hare and perhaps a water source.

She giggled and pulled her ear away from her mother. Irmuska grinned at the thought of food. "Are we going to stay here a day or two then?" She asked curiously. It would be nice to explore some, but she knew mama wanted to get home too. Prancing after Annika, head bobbing with each step, she peered at the designated spot. Looked good to her!
The pup gave her mother an affectionate lick. "K, mama. Good hunting." She gave a yawn and tried to cover it up with a giggle. Nosing in Irmuska swepted a spot big enough for her and her mother clean of any pointy rocks. She settled into the exact middle with a happy sigh, to await Annika's return.

Annika chuckled at her daughter. "If you like we can stay for a little bit and until we are ready to go." It made no sense to hoof it and end up hurting her pup in the long run. Watching Irmuska go to the spot that she deemed worthy of safety for them to rest, she licked her daughter's cheek and trotted away in search of food for both of them and perhaps a water source too.

Irmuska gave her mother a loving nuzzle. "Maybe for just a quick nap mama." Which really meant the night. She wanted time off her paws, and the best way for that was curled up against her mother's fur sound asleep.
She watched Annika head out and gave a contented smile. It wouldn't be long before she got back. Deciding to take advantage of the time the pup circled around several times before settling down. Her blue eyes quickly closed and soon soft little snores came from the ball of fur.

Annika started to come back from her hunt and caught a good sized deer for her and her pup, Irmuska who was no doubt fast asleep in the brush. Coming closer she dragged the deer with her jaws and stopped. Dropping the dead creature, she started to tear through the flesh and cut it up a bit enough for her daughter to be able to feed of it easily. "Irmuska? Wake up, my dearest. It's time for dinner." She called out.

Irmuska's Adventure! The rolly-polly pup that should have been sleeping was anything but. She heard her mother calling and bounded eagerly through the last few bushes. Cracking and snapping noises preceded her into the clearing. Her special feather held carefully in her tiny jaws. "Mama! Mama! Look what I got! There was this big bird and I saved him! Then an even bigger big bird came and gave me this feather! Isn't it pretty?" She was breathless and wide eyed with excitement. Irmuska proudly showed the feather to Annika.

The mother wolf lifted her head up at the sound of her daughter's voice coming towards with excitement. Blinking some she stood to look at her daughter and listened to what she had to say. For a split moment she frowned feeling that maternal instinct of her daughter possibly in danger but looking over her critically there wasn't anything that would hint of a true threat.
Then she looked at the feather and stared at it. Something else inside her burst with a sense of pride. Her daughter, little Irmuska, had received a feather for helping a bird and that was something special. Smiling she brought her daughter close and nuzzled her fur. "First, I'm upset that you went off to find adventure but.....You have a beautiful feather, little one and if what you say is true, then I'm proud that you came back safe to me with a gift from helping this bird." Sitting down she motioned for the food. "Here, there's dinner and you must tell me what fully happened alright?" This was something she had to hear.

Carefully and full of pride, the pup set her feather down and admired it. Her most treasured possession! She wouldn't let anything happen to it. Irmuska laid her ears back as her mother scolded her for leaving.
"I'm sorry mama." Now she realized that she probably shouldn't have left. She gave a grin, "thank you mama. It's a long story. Are you comfortable?" Politely, but brimming with energy, she waited. With the introduction of dinner, Irmuska pounced on it. Her belly was very empty and she could tell a better story with it full. She settled back with a nicely full belly.
"I was taking my nap when I heard a noise. It was a funny kinda peep noise. So I followed it. There was a fox kit harrassing this young bird. So I chased away the fox and saved the bird." She had to puff her chest out at that one. All by herself. "He'd fallen outta his nest and been chased. So after that, then I had to protect him until he mama showed up. He wasn't happy on the ground, so I got him back up into a tree. Then his mama showed up and thanked me."

Annika listened to her daughter and smiled widely at her story. It was interesting and no matter how much her maternal side bristled that her baby went off all alone, she held it back with the rationale that...Irmuska was showing a fearless side to her that was, without a doubt, flowing through her veins from Annika's family and from Irmuska's father. "Well....I'm proud of you my little love." She said, nuzzling her daughter. "Just be sure to know when to pick your battles and when to be safe alright?"

The pup nearly burst with pride. Her mother was proud. That was all she needed to hear, but she took in the warning too. Nuzzling her mother back, Irmuska looked into Annika's eyes. "Do you think papa would be proud too?" She really hoped he would. Someday she wanted to come back and tell him all her stories and see him glow with pride for her.
The pup carefully considered the warning. She didn't want to get hurt, but that fox would have hurt the bird. Her little brows wrinkled together as she tried to sort it out. "Mama..." the pup said slowly. "How will I know when to be safe, and when a risk is needed to protect somebody?" That was a tough question for so young a girl.

Annika smiled widely and nodded. "Yes. Your papa will be so proud that he would have to just brag to all the creatures from miles around." Just the thought of Gustav made the female's heart squeeze a bit, already missing the only male she had allowed close and to give her the precious gift of Irmuska.
Laying down, the she wolf looked wisely at the young pup. "My heart, your instinct will tell you whether or not if something is good and bad. It is your instincts that will make you feel that something is wrong as a warning. When you are older, you will be trained with the very best of our pack and no doubt you'll learn how to wield your instinct to perfection." She said, nuzzling her pup.

Content by her mother's answer, Irmuska plopped down beside the bigger female. She snuggled in close to the furry side. Her ears were perked as she listened. "Then I will always listen to it mother and let it guide me." Irmuska felt a thrill of excitement at the mention of training with the pack. There was a whole set of options there before her. What would she do? What would she become?
That was still far in the future, and by now the little pup was feeling the effects of her adventure. She gave a big yawn and cuddled just a bit closer to her mother; her nose resting just between her front paws.
