After a busy day of wandering around, making friends and gossiping.. Aysu had made her way off towards her den- or, really, where she spent most of her nights. She would hesitate to call it a den since it was just her, though that didn't really bother her. All that mattered was she had somewhere and it wasn't far from family.

Even though now it was getting dark out and she was where she might wait out the night, she seemed to be alert and ready to socialize. Thinking through the last couple days, her eyes wandered over her surroundings.

Sometimes it seemed to Yareha that he was related to half the pride. In other words, on those nights when he wasn't out in a hunting party, the odds of running into one of his relatives was decently high. Less so, in some ways, because he was one of those lions who preferred to sleep during the day and do all his duties at night. Still, less likely still meant he ran into kin fairly often.

Such as now. Aysu, one of his far too many sisters was...just standing around. Waiting. Perhaps for him, but knowing her, she was just waiting for someone with nothing better to do. The male sighed and angled his path towards her. Might as well get it over with.

"Hey, Aysu," he called out by way of greeting.

Aysu shuffled her weight around a bit, seemingly intent on something else happening before she really got settled in near home. So much had been going on lately, it seemed reasonable to assume something else exciting might happen before the night was out.. and then Yareha showed up. Her brother seemed some of the least interesting possibilities, though she couldn't blame them.

"Good evening, Yareha," she called back, smiling at him as he approached, "You're out and about early. For you, anyway."

The male noted that his sister seemed unsettled by something. He considered asking about it, then gave a mental shrug. If Aysu wanted to share something with him, she would. If not, why bother asking?

He smiled in return and gave a physical shrug in response. "Sun's down, it's late enough." Not that he disliked sunlight, it had many uses, not the least of which was warming rocks to doze upon. But as Aysu well knew, he preferred to wake up around sunset, so that he wouldn't waste much of the nighttime with things that could be done at any time of the day or night.

"Isn't it late enough that you shouldn't be waiting around aimlessly by yourself?" the white lion pressured his sister slightly. She was sociable enough that she didn't have to be alone if she didn't really want to be.

"Of course," she responded, smiling but still shaking her head at his simple explanation. It wasn't really a big deal, merely an observation and, maybe, slight exaggeration. This was how small-talk worked, wasn't it?

"Nah, I figured something might come along if I waited," Aysu responded, though even in quieter times it was near inevitable. The pride was big and busy and she was located pretty centrally. So, really, nothing was out of the ordinary unless you were in Aysu's mind.

"I've been keeping busy, thought it might be nice to see what came to me instead of chasing down rumors."

Yareha's eyebrows rose a bit. This was...different behavior than he'd come to expect of his sister. Something must really be on her mind. "I guess that makes sense," the male mused aloud, considering what Aysu had and hadn't said.

The lion cocked his head at her and decided to bite the bullet. "So...what's bothering you? You're sounding far too reasonable," he added with a mischevious grin.

"Nothing is bothering me!"

Aysu sounded almost defensive but it was impossible to hide the amusement. This was the fun part of keeping tabs on everything going on around the pride, sharing it and seeing how others reacted. Of course, it might not be such a big deal to everybody but she would never know until she tried. Yareha was slightly more predictable than most as he was a member of her immediate family but what was going on involved family.

"I'll spare you the details of my entire day and jump right to it," she said, "Have you heard what's been going on with Mazin?"

Well, that wasn't quite the reaction he'd expected. Defensive, yes. Amused? Definitely not. Yareha swallowed the teasing he had been poised for. Clearly, this wasn't quite the situation he'd expected. Had she been waiting for him then? To spring this upon him, because clearly she was suddenly dying to talk about it. Whatever "it" was.

The white lion sighed. "No, I haven't heard what's been going on with our dear cousin Mazin," he replied dutifully. Even if he had heard, he suspected Aysu would tell him anyway. Not that he cared, one way or the other. They had a lot of cousins, and Mazin was just one of them. Yareha didn't have much to do with him in particular and so had no reason to care.

"Well!" Aysu took a breath, happy to have someone she was comfortable babbling at who was also willing to put up with it from her. The more Yareha said, the more she knew he wasn't really going to care but she wanted to talk about it and put her thoughts about it out there.

"We all know Mazin struck up a friendship with the heiress, of course," she said very matter-of-factly, this was something that had been for some time now.. it was the fact they were growing up and spending more and more time together that got anybody who cared to gossip talking.

"They've been spending an awful lot of time together lately," she continued, carefully emphasizing her words like he might not understand what it meant if she didn't.

Yareha assumed "the positon." It was an attentive pose and expression that would assure Aysu that he was paying attention to whatever she wanted to babble on about. There was no stopping her when she had something she wanted to share with the world. And, to be fair, it was a good way to keep tabs on what was happening in the pride.

But really, that didn't mean it was actually interesting to him, for the most part. Or that he liked it when Aysu treated him as if he couldn't put two and two together to get four.

"So, a little cubby-love, hm?" Yareha asked when his sister finally paused for a breath. It was potentially important in its end result, but at the moment, just a slightly more interesting than usual fact. There were enough precautions in place that nothing would come of a premature romance unless if several important lions agreed it was for the good of the pride.

"Yes, exactly!"

She still sounded a little too excited that he had jumped to the right conclusion, but she was enjoying herself.

"Well, who knows," Aysu corrected herself, though she was still smiling like she thought she just might know, "I was talking to him about it, he was a little too nervous and tried to brush it off but he wasn't very convincing."
PostPosted: Thu Aug 11, 2011 8:29 pm

Blue eyes widened slightly at Aysu's overenthusiastic reaction and Yareha half expected her to jump around the way she had as a cub. He considered backing up a little, but decided against it. For now. His reflexes were good enough that he should be okay if she ended up regressing a bit.

"You...talked to him about it?" the lion's voice ended in a higher register than usual. He'd known his sister liked to be a part of the goings-on in the pride, but she'd actually gone and talked to their cousin about the little kitty love? Well, yes Mazin was their cousin, but still! Only a total stranger would talk to Aysu about something personal...or someone who didn't care who knew their thoughts and feelings.

"Gossip" was an understatement when you were describing Yareha's sister.

"Sure I did," Aysu said, giving Yareha a funny look at the way he reacted to knowing she had approached Mazin. How could she not? He wasn't a stranger, even for family.. though perhaps their closeness was enhanced in her imagination. Suddenly he was in the spotlight (of sorts) and he happened to be a relative.. clearly they were super close and he wouldn't mind chatting about it.

Aysu would not let that cross her mind now, though.

"Anyway, it seems a lot like Uncle Fafnir's story, don't you think?" she continued, "Except more extreme class difference, I suppose. Wouldn't it be interesting if we had a second king in the family?"
PostPosted: Thu Aug 11, 2011 8:41 pm

Yareha managed to resist the twin urges to a) hide his head in his shoulder and b) hit his head on the nearest hard and unyielding surface. Aysu was...Aysu. There were no words in any language to truly describe her and how she made him feel at times like this.

"I think you're reading too much into this," he pointed out at last. "They're still just adolescents." That was his line and he was sticking to it. Knowing Aysu, she did already have them married in her mind and Mazin crowned King. Even if it did happen, it was quite a ways off in the future as of yet and Yareha had no intention of considering such a possibility until it was much more concrete.

"Hmm," Aysu hummed cheerily, not convinced even by Yareha's reminder that they were still only adolescents, "We'll see about that!"

She was perfectly content to assume the most romantic ending to this partially imagined relationship was the most likely. After all, Selene could marry whoever she liked and Mazin was a perfectly acceptable choice. Especially for those who wanted something interesting to talk about.

"Also kind of like her uncle, but in reverse," she added thoughtfully. Unyezi had left the throne for a slave, at least in this case Selene wouldn't have to if it came to that.
