Physical Appearance: A pre-made beauty. See left.

Favorite Things: Niko, adventure, fruits, desserts (especially with fruit), watching City People talk, automaton critters
Hated Things: Being trapped, small spaces, realizing people are angry or have malicious intentions

Favorite type of Ending: Something happy. The best story, to Olwen, is one brimming with mishaps, adventure, and magic. If the protagonist doesn't exit his tale happy, however, she finds herself rather disappointed.

There's something about this image that Olwen finds absolutely wonderful. There's a magical sense of curiosity mixed with the excitement of unforeseen danger. Plus, she thinks the colors are absolutely stunning.

Dreams: To lead the sort of life, full of adventures and discoveries, that the City People would want to record in one of their treasured books.

Miscellaneous Details:
Luck: Olwen's combined personality traits tend to get her into relatively sticky predicaments. She, however, is incredibly fortunate. The girl is lucky in a way that could convince someone that there really must be someone watching over us... or over Olwen, anyway. Be it through a friend, a stranger, or chance alone, the Book Child seems capable of tripping her way through just about anything, all the while completely oblivious to whatever sort of danger she may have been in.

Nikolaus: A Book Child to whom Olwen feels inexplicably connected. Reasonably so, as they are halves of the same whole, although those two might never know. He was there from the moment she woke up in the forest, leading her to feel a mixture of security in and curiosity about him. Why was he there when she awoke? The girl decided not to let Niko out of her sight. Since leaving the forest and more-or-less forcing herself into the home next door, she has contrived all sorts of whimsical ways to keep in touch with the socially deprived Huntsman. He is her prime source of comfort in this strange, magical world, although she would be hard-pressed to admit that she needs him.

Personality:
Curious: Perhaps her most endearing quality and most fatal flaw, Olwen's curiosity knows no bounds. If she could spend every hour of every day exploring the nooks, crannies, and hidden treasures of the world, she would be endlessly delighted. Unfortunately, not every adventure is safe and not every person has good intentions, although she has been cocooned in happy disillusionment, since most people within the city are, in fact, quite affable. This exploratory sense of wonder does not end at places, however.

Olwen is quite the socialite, spending much of her time chatting with City People whose way of speaking intrigues her to no end. Book Children too, whose mysterious beginnings so closely mirror her own, are a huge fascination. This trait has also led her to be quite the fan of experimenting, particularly with things like baking. Although not always the most appetizing treats, she certainly has a way of finding the most bizarre flavor combinations.

Amiable: As previously mentioned, Olwen absolutely adores interacting with other people, both Book Children and City People alike. She views everyone as a potential friend and has the horrible habit of assuming that most other people view the world similarly. She is really awful at taking a hint and will continue insisting upon friendship until she receives a forceful reprimand, at which point she becomes inconsolable for hours, if not days, until she can convince herself that that poor person must simply have been having a bad day. If she comes across them again, they can be sure to find themselves loaded up with armfuls of baked goods and flower arrangements sure to lighten their gloomy day. Since she wants to be everyone's friend, everyone should want to be her's too, right? The girl finds her best friend Niko to be a strange exception to her happy theory and so spends much of her time trying to socialize him.

Stubborn: If it were up to Olwen, this trait would instead be "Independent." As it is, she is far from such. The girl is only fortunate in her magical ability to get out of so many predicaments. Really, she gets herself into more fixes than any single person should. Whatever the case may be, she will determinedly refuse help until the very last moment. Of course, Olwen is frequently unaware that she was ever in any danger to begin with.

Her strong desire to not be a damsel in distress has led her to be quite opinionated about many things, even if she doesn't know much about them. If she decides to think or do a certain thing, it is a difficult task getting her to change her mind.

Oblivious: As much as she loves interacting with people, the Book Child is not the most observant when it comes to social cues, as previously described. She is not too good at reading other people. Unless people are incredibly blunt (like Niko) and straightforward with her, she is simply unaware as to how they might truly feel towards her.

She is also generally ignorant to dangerous situations, as was previously mentioned. This is probably a bit of a defense mechanism though, since, when she does realize she's in danger, she tends to become a frightened rabbit; her body simply shuts down. She panics. It's not the sort of screaming, running in circles panic, however. She will just stop and stare, wide-eyed, silent, and on the verge of hyperventilation. Really, she becomes quite useless.

Fanciful: To Olwen, everything should be magic and adventure. She isn't the most practical thinker, but she knows no real reason to be. Leading a safe, comfortable life in a world that revolves around a plethora of wondrous stories allows her mind to be seeped in disillusionment with no real repercussions. She dreams of grand, epic explorations and has no greater desire than to lead a life so full of excitement and intrigue that the City People would want to write down, not just the strange story that was, at the very beginning, the only thing she knew, but her own, personal story as well.

Thoughts on the Forest: The biggest curiosity of them all. Olwen often stands at the edge of the city, peering earnestly into the dark, paper trees, wishing she had been able to explore them while she was there. As the inaccessible place of her birth, she wishes deeply to be able to return, although she has never even come close enough for a guardian to shoo her away. Something about it incites fear in her heart. The problem is that, while others simply choose to ignore the mysterious thing that makes them shiver, she cannot.

Thoughts of Book Children: In general, Olwen finds herself to be more at ease with other Book Children, although she has met few. She often wonders why Forest Folk look and speak so differently than City People and, while she adores interacting with both, tends to recognize Book Children more quickly as peers. She thoroughly enjoys hearing of their origins and what they have made of their lives in the city.

Thoughts on City People: Olwen absolutely delights in interacting with them. She is intrigued by their aesthetically stunning way of speech. She is incredibly aware of just how different they are from her, however, and is humbled by that fact. It isn't quite inferiority to them that she feels, but a sort of high-held respect, more like how children look up to adults. Of course, besides her adoptive parents, she hasn't really gotten to know any City People beyond the few words that she thrills in exchanging. But even then, she is focused more on the words themselves than the meanings behind them.

History: The first thing that Olwen remembers seeing, before the immense, gentle guardians, before even the monotonous, shadow-veiled paper trees, is Nikolaus. Quickly, a sense of curiosity overcame her, accompanied by a mixture of confusion and fear. This fellow Book Child, this familiar stranger, was immediately transformed into the girl's only sense of comfort and ease in the immense, foreboding world.

After a bit of wheedling and much pursuing, Olwen had successfully latched onto the Huntsman. Unfortunately, as soon as she had finally convinced him to explore the forest with her, a guardian appeared. There was no arguing the large creature and the duo were soon nudged out into a city.

Olwen stuck with Niko for quite some time. After all, if he didn't want her around, he wouldn't have agreed to be her friend. Eventually, he was adopted by an artist. The girl, quick as a whip, marched up to the house next door and informed them that she simply had to live there. Luckily for Olwen, the little home belonged to an elderly couple of City People. They were a quiet duo with elegant, almost identical, swirling speech. The woman was from the lower layer of the city. She kept a small garden at every window within the home and allowed Olwen to experiment with whatever she pleased. The man was a paper sculptor, of all things, by trade, although tinkered with automaton critters in his spare time.

Since her adoption, Olwen has taken to devising various, crafty ways to keep in touch with her next-door companion. Between adventurous outings, she is sure to send a quick message scampering or flitting between windows, carried loyally by the rickety, clockwork creatures that tumble around her home. Such is life in The Library City...
