Creating a New Journey:
-When choosing a guide and ship, try choosing two that make up for each other's faults. (Ex: To offset Diedrich's higher food consumption, choose the Titan ship so you can carry more food. And then try to start with the most food possible, since starting high is easier than hunting in the beginning.)
-DO NOT BUY ANY FOOD! Spend your last 500 gold treasure on ammo!
-When you first start the game put your pace up to 'FAST' and rations to 'MEAGER'.
-When you start/continue a game, all the health numbers appear for a couple seconds instead of the status words. Using this can help save you some time/food so you know exactly when the most efficient time to rest is.

Game FAQ:

Your Guides:
Louie
-Pros: More food from hunting trips (can bring back a higher amount), He smells out dead stuff - finds graveyards and retrieves ammo from corpses/ finding beef hotdogs under a log/etc;
-Cons: Bad luck (don't take chances on random events- play it safe!)
-Best Ship: Fastest (You want to take the desert short cut to cut down on time, but don't take the volcano short cut later in the game.)
-Starting Loot: 2000
-Best Starting Ammo/Food: Lots of ammo, less food
-Difficulty: 3/5
-what the player should be good at or can afford to be bad at:
-Misc: Gather as much luck along the way as you possibly can. (see the random events list in the second post for which random events make you luckier.) Must be good at hunting- Louie can bring back more food and it's important to utilize this. Bring lots and lots of ammo so that you can keep hunting for your food to make it easier for you in the long-run. Play it safe.

Edmund
-Pros: Higher health for party, highest amount of starting gold, sabotages Louie.
-Cons: Slower ship speed
-Best Ship: Probably the Kesler. It makes up for his minus on speed, and with the added health you don't need to worry about food as much
-Best Starting Ammo/Food:
-Starting Loot: 2000 (sometimes 3000?)
-Difficulty: 3/5
-Be Good/Afford Bad: Player should be good at hunting, since the Kesler does have the smallest room for food. Player can afford to be a little bad about resting, because of the health bonus.
-Misc: Seems to be the favorite among players...

Diedrich
-Pros: Good luck
-Cons: More food gets eaten, brings back a lower amount of food from hunting trips?
-Best Ship: Titan (buy a lot of ammo and food!) / fast ship
-Starting Loot: 4000
-Best Starting Ammo/Food:
-Difficulty: 1/5
-Be Good/Afford Bad:
-Misc: Might be the best choice...

Sam
-Pros: High speed
-Cons:
-Best Ship: You can choose the slowest ship and still go pretty fast, as well as having a lot of food handy.
-Starting Loot: 2000 (sometimes 3000?)
-Best Starting Ammo/Food:
-Difficulty: 2/5
-what the player should be good at or can afford to be bad at
-misc. information....

Carl
-Pros: Nothing
-Cons: Random bursts of anger and violence- hardest to use
-Best Ship: Titan
-Starting Loot: 1500
-Best Starting Ammo/Food:
-Difficulty: 5/5
-Be Good/Afford Bad:
-Misc: Don't shoot blue elks in the woods, or he'll get angry. You have to keep Carl happy. It could be beneficial to kill 3 of your crew-members on purpose. You will conserve food (you just don't have enough for 5 people) and toward the end of the game, you'll probably get a random event where one of them will die. (This way, you still have one left over! Yippee!)
Also, just don't pick Carl.

Hunting:
Grunnies = 25 lbs, 2shots
Veggies = 20 lbs, 2 shots
Deer = around 60 lbs, 3 shots (Don't shoot if you have Carl)
Driving bear / Bear pilot = around 150 lbs, 6 shots
Crabs = 50 lbs, 2 shots
Flying penguins = 20 lbs, 2 shots
Vulture (in the desert) = 50 lbs, 2 shots
Tumbleweed = 5 lbs, 2 shots. Don't waste your ammo unless you're desperate for food!
Big Foot/Sasquatch = 100 lbs, 4 shots
Robots = 90 lbs, 6 shots
Clouds = 0 lbs, 1 shot. Don't waste your ammo!
Flopping fish (in the desert) = 60 lbs, Unknown shots
Gwee = 60 lbs, Unknown shots

A word from me:
Tips:

Tips when playing:
-DO NOT HUNT ELK (Carl will kill your crew).
-Take the forest path not the desert to fill your entire ship with food. Every time your crew goes to 'fair' heal them back to GOOD.
-Kill your second to last crew member at the anthill.
-Any treasure you gain SAVE for bullets. You will run out.
-Go threw the volcano shortcut. Then follow the game from there to the demigod.
-And Fin, You have beat Carl.
-Bring lots of food
-Bring lots of ammo (If you run out of ammo, there's no way to regain it quickly and your crew will starve to death! make sure you save a lot, also!)
-Rest Often
-Save regularly (Maybe listen to a song, and once that song is over, save.)
-Don't pick Carl, if you do, don't make Carl angry...
-The desert is full of vampires, go fast there
-Avoid the volcano
-(On some computers?) Firefox may lag
-Click the map for a bigger map!
-Keep your crew healthy!!!
-Don't screw with the vampires
-Luck is important- don't take it for granted! (Louie is horribly unlucky and Diedrich is a lucky charm!)
-You should always respect a big tree (because they're older than you and taller than you- THANKS DIEDRICH! )
-Take your time
-Fewer crew members uses less food! The dead don't eat! (and no... you can't eat your dead)
-Shortcuts can kill you- just take your time (However, you can make it through the desert if you hunt enough in the forest as preparation. If you're excellent at shooting and bad at conserving food, take the shortcut.)
-READ THE TUTORIAL! Don't overestimate yourself!
-Rest when the majority of your crew is "fair" health and hunt when your food is under 200 count
-While speeding ration food to lowest (you usually end up getting about 250 pounds of food every hunt and you have to throw most of it out anyway)
-Not all of the Snapple "real facts" are true
-Your fourth crew mate is usually the worst one off and the first to die.
-Only rest for 3 days. (1 day rests restore 10 health, 5 day rests restore 50, but 3 day rests restore 40 health.)
-When you reach the end you get 100 points for each surviving crew member.
-Keep everyone's stats at Fair or above (mainly Fair to consume less food).
-Don't go to shortcuts.
-Don't waste ammo. (refer to the hunting section for animal/veggie values of food and shots)
-Trade loot for ammo/food/stuff.
-Search in areas such as shipwrecks or the ruins.

Tips for Hunting:
-Aim carefully
-Bring lots of ammo
-Don't take shortcuts unless you're good at shooting
-If you ARE good at shooting, you can take chances with bringing less food and less ammo- but be wary of bad random events
-Practice the hunting game
-Don't shoot elks if you didn't listen to us and picked Carl anyway
-If you're using a laptop with a trackpad (that flat touchy thing that moves the mouse) and you're bad at shooting, get a USB mouse or a tablet to make it easier for you. Older laptops are less touch-sensitive than newer ones.
-When in the desert: do NOT shoot Rock Puppies- Waste of bullets
-Bigger things take longer to kill, but give more meat (Bears can take many bullets)
-When hunting, hover over the killed animals to collect the meat!!! (Don't waste your time and ammo just to leave with nothing!)
-If you shoot an animal twice (that needs three shots) and it runs off screen, sometimes the EXACT same animal runs on from the side it left, and if you shoot it once more, it dies
-Hunting trips require you to wait another fifty miles before you can hunt again (?)
-Aim for vital organs...
-You can only carry back 250 lbs of food unless you have Louie
-Unless you're good at shooting, don't aim for flying game
-If you want to cheat with hunting, right click so that your mouse cursor is visible, thereby giving you a much better point of reference than the laggy cursor they give you.
-Focus on large game ONLY, or at least first, as they give more food per-bullet.
-If you have a lot of ammo, but you really need the rations... you can hunt, save/exit, and then hunt again.
-Wait until animals are near the center of the screen before shooting them get get the most time to keep shooting as they run (or as close as you can get, if there's an obstruction).
If you shoot animals them just after they pass the center, they sometimes get confused and run back for a moment, then forward again, giving even more time to shoot them. Kinda needs a good reflex though, since it happens quite randomly.
-Try to only hunt for bison and bigfoot when you're in the forest. 4 bullets for 100 food is a good deal. and you can only carry 250 food each hunt, so don't kill more than two bison/bigfoot - it'll only be a waste of bullets.
-"SAVE!!! Save! Save! Save! Save! Save!"- if you save before a random event, you can go back and try again if you picked the wrong choice.
-Don't pick crew members with ADD (in reference to the moth- when your crew member sees this moth they jump off your airship and die.)
-Pygmies: Some of their effects are positive, some are negative. Sometimes they give you a speed boost, sometimes you get loot from them, sometimes they attack one of your crewmen with blowdarts. (dependent on luck)
-Don't take chances with luck-based events unless you have high luck and you're in need of available supplies.
-Be fair to your crew members (Rock, paper, scissors, anyone?)
-Respect nature!!!
-Don't keep the cow skull as a lucky charm (decreases luck)
-Explore the first ruins, it gives you luck
-Rub the lamp in the desert you get two good bonuses!
-Let the minstrel sing for you. 50 loot every time.
-Trying to surf the tidal wave kills one of your crew immediately.
-"DON'T. FAWK. WITH. THE. ANTHILL."
-Don't ford the river

Other Tips:
Interesting note: the event in which Louis gets your crew to prank Edmund with scorpions happens at the exact same point in which Edmund is suddenly attacked by scorpions if you have him on your ship.

Okay, after doing some testing, it looks like keeping your team at fair or above health stops them from DRAINING luck, but otherwise their luck level will not rise without outside influence. If your luck has dipped below average, keeping them in the green will cause it to slowly rise until it hits average again. It will not stop some events from hitting your luck invisibly, so after some events you will still take a drop in luck even though it says nothing about it in the message.

As a hypothetical note, the less crew you have, the less your luck may be able to change, but I have no idea at this point in time.

Presumably Louie and Diedrich just affect how easy or hard it is to change your luck for the better, but Edmund's ability to slow your crew's decay rate means that it is much easier to maintain a luck streak once you have one going.
