Not long after the asteroid field formed, two rogue planets drifted into the field. Colliding with each other as well as massive asteroids, they both split into several smaller parts, one planet breaking in quarters, the other split entirely in half.

Today, Kinus-2 as it is called, floats among the asteroid fields. It was once populated by billions of people called the Kerne, a race of humanoids known for their advanced technology, now extinct save for DNA samples in various research labs, and now is a floating graveyard of old world technology and rare artifacts. Few can even make it within sight of the half-planet, and most are crushed long before that even.

If one could make it there though, the remainder of the planet does have a breathable atmosphere, thanks to advanced technology from the colonization of the planet, but it is void of life. The drifting grave of an entire race lies silent, among twirling space rocks.
