Well, the day had started out like any other. Njalo had been happily prowling along her pride's range when--what's that!--the most beautiful butterfly had caught the lioness' attention from the corner of her eye. It fluttered delicately on the tall stalked wildflower, daintily sipping nectar or it had until the giddy female had decided to give chase. Darting about face to charge full force at the insect. Yet just as it had almost been within her grasp a bird had dove from high up in the clouds and snatched it! Under normal circumstances, anyone else, even the youngest of cubs within the bonelands would have given up and turned back towards the heart of the pride.
Njalo, as everyone well knew, was no normal lioness. Gaping in awe of the avian's miraculous catch Nja had decided to follow it. Head tilted back to watch the outline of the gliding figure as she ran along beneath it.

Today was going to fail her one way or another or at least more so than the day before had Yuugre thought as she wearily walked along the soft grass. Most would have been rather delighted to leave the drought sandy lands and find such plush like ground to roll upon but the purple leopard had little interest. That of course was to little to no surprise to those who knew her, that was if anyone really knew her. She took little in pleasure and with a rather sour look on her face she was sure that nothing would ever go her way and deemed that there was little use in trying to be happy. Yuugre didn’t even bother to pay attention to the shadow of the bird that flew over head or even the lioness that was running after it.

With the wind at its aid the bird and its catch were quickly gaining ground on the loping predator below, but Njalo didn't give in. Giggling as she struggled to keep up, extending her strides as far as they would reach. Long past the borders of the Ithambo, one could only wonder how far the spacey lioness would run before she realized it herself and was forced to double back. And if she hadn't noticed she'd left the grounds of her home far behind, it was unlikely that she would notice the lavender shape her small, prey-colored shape was heading directly towards. Colliding with the other savannah walker before she even knew what had happened.
Ooohf! Nose to the dirt and a mouthful of grass later, the peppy figure was rolling back to her feet. Startled but not deterred as she watched the butterfly--and the bird that had snatched it from her--escaping into the distant skyline. Still rather oblivious to the fact that she had bulldozed another creature over in her hot pursuit. Awwhh.. Nja lost 'em!

It ran into her. A sharp pain erupted across Yuugre’s forehead as a low growl rumbled in her throat she knew that something horrible was going to happen and so far she wasn’t wrong. She rolled back on to her feet narrowing her eyes as she glared at the lioness that had dared to run her over, even more annoyed that she was paying no attention to whom she had injured. “You were never going to catch it especially when your not paying attention to where your going.... I mean really are you blind?”
How stupid was she anyways? And sheesh talk about rude Yuuge thought as she sat on her hind legs rubbing the forming knot on her forehead, it hurt far too much for her own liking.
“With my luck it will start raining frogs next I am sure of it,” she muttered under her breath as she shook her head.

If Njalo heard the stranger's chiding words, she certainly made no gesture of it. Gaze lingering on the sailing form as it became smaller and smaller before she chirped. Tail wagging happily. Well.. see you again soon!!
As if they were the best of friends, but it was best to always leave things on good terms right? In case they should ever meet again! Finally, Njalo turned her attention to the lump she had stumbled over. It hadn't felt hard like a rock, which left her rather curious. This was turning into an interesting day! Interesting day indeed!
Her jaw dropped in surprise to find a pale, but uniquely colored feline gathering her wits behind her. Grumbling to herself about frogs and rain no less! Prancing over, Nja unconsciously licked the swelling bump upon this strange lion's head in a caring and apologetic fashion, though she giggled happily. Raining frogs?! Njalo would sure like to see that!

“What in goddess name!” She licked her! This stranger who obviously was just about as bright as a dying dusk licked her right on the swelling bump. If she was someone Yuugre knew she wouldn’t be bothered by it but this was some odd feline in the middle of nowhere, really the leopard had found herself caught in a bad day for sure.
“Well I am glad you would like to see raining frogs I on the other hand would appreciate if silly things didn’t run into me and cause knots on my head.” Yuugre frowned as she stared at the lioness maybe she had hit her head a little too hard and was loopy? Would that be too much to ask? Probably Yuugre thought with a sigh escape her lips, she was already convinced that the lioness was far more than loopy.

Nja helped! Kisses always make it feel better! The goofy lioness assured her companion when she seemed baffled by the offered lick. Tilting her head as dark ears swiveled cutely, she seemed confused by the stranger's statement. Silly things run into you? Like what? Like frogs that fall from the sky? Nja's never met someone who has seen that before! What kind of frogs were they? Were they big bullfrogs? Nja likes bullfrogs!
Wiggling in her spot, the young huntress had become completely enraptured by such a crazy thing. She could hardly even imagine how something like that could occur naturally. Maybe the frogs had actually be dropped by birds? Sparkling eyes glossed over, lost in a daze of her own vivid imagination.

"No kisses do not make it all better it just merely makes my forehead soaked with spit," Yuugre complained with a rather tightly drawn frown on her face. It was a handful alone just to be able to talk to her if the conversation was going to continue she was going to end up beating the knot on her forehead into the ground. It reminded her of the small snot nosed cubs who always seemed to run around and lack conversation skills and did nothing more than ask stupid questions like the whole frogs things. Really who in the lands actually believed that frogs could rain from the sky other than this lioness who was asking what kind of frogs.
"Yes silly things like you and no frogs do not rain from the sky its nothing more than an expression have you ever heard of something like that?" Yuugre was actually afraid of what she would say about hearing such expressions.

Oh! Snapping back to reality or as much to reality as Njalo'sasa was capable of, the golden surf-sided female looked concerned.
Are you sure it doesn't feel better? Maybe Nja did it wrong! Let Nja try again! Leaning in, the optimistic lioness was prepared to lick the smaller female's forehead a second time when that biting frown caused Njalo to recoil rather quickly and smile sheepishly. In her experience, that face could occasionally find company with a brusque and claw-filled swipe to her face. Particularly by the less friendly light umzingeli of her pride. Out of instinct, Nja recoiled just out of reach, blinking at the stranger.
Nja isn't a silly thing! Nja is a lioness! Like you! At this point, the giddy female was still utterly clueless that she was looking at a leopard. She certainly looked like a small, strangely scented version of a lioness. Granted, Njalo hadn't yet seen the stranger's puffy tail. Her own tail flopped sadly to discover that frogs didn't really rain from the sky, though she was admittedly uncertain why her companion would say that they did and then so suddenly change her mind. Puffing softly, Ooh.. expressions? Nja knows expressions.. they are like.. sad and happy.. and angry.

She was relieved that the lioness didn't lick her forehead again though she wasn't exactly sure why she recoiled but she merely assumed it was her expression. Yuugre wasn't violent she wouldn't strike out against others however she did tend to keep a sour look on her face to keep others away. Well that was one reason the other was because she never saw much of a reason to smile nothing was ever going to turn out right either way.
"I am not a lioness. I am a leopard a leeeeooppaaarrrddd can't you tell? And you wonder why I call you a silly thing? Really.... your odd." The purple leopard shook her head as she wagged her tail for the thing that continued to call herself Nja. What was the whole third person speech anyways? Hadn't she realized that most did not speak in such manner?
"No not those sort of expressions.... expression as in sayings sort of like the early bird catches the worm. Have you ever heard of that before?" Yuugre was actually more afraid to ask if she had but the lioness looked a little sad though for what she wasn't sure.

Leopard? What's a leopard? Having grown up in a strictly lion based pride where the males kept watch over the borders like demons, refusing to let anyone in who didn't belong there was never even mention of any other felines. Njalo had seen cheetahs on occasion while sunning on flat rocks near the border of their lands, but she thought them malnourished lions with their long, lanky bodies. Given the lack of forest surrounding them, let alone in their territory. The idea of a leopard was completely foreign to the dark umzingeli. Head flopping to one slender shoulder with curiosity, staring with interest at the tail that was offered for her examination. Exclaiming excitedly, It's puffy!
Unfortunately, before Njalo could really savor the uniqueness of it, her new friend was attempting to teach her something new. Brows furrowing in thought, in truth the derpy lioness' pride had probably quit using such easily confusing phrases around her ages ago so as not to cause the gullible female to strain her brain upon such trivial matters. No.. but all birds catch worms.. well except for the birds that eat meat and not bugs, even Nja knows that!

“I’m a leopard and anything that looks like me is a leopard” the purple feline shook her head in utter dismay at the lack of knowledge the lioness had. Though really considering she thought frogs would rain from the sky Yuugre wasn’t sure how she would have been surprised that she didn’t know what a leopard was. Maybe the lioness lived in a little hole in the ground and never got out until today because her family was far too ashamed to allow such an insane thing out. No that was more likely just her own opinion she was sure that unlike her own family the lioness had others to protect and care for her which was why she never needed to leave.
“Yes of course my tail is fluffy all leopard tails are fluffy like mine….. and about the bird….. never mind.” Yuugre was starting to feel that it was pointless to try to explain anything to her and just let her believe whatever she wanted instead. It was annoying however maybe it was a little endearing the super cub like way of innocent.

Soo.. leopards are small lions with puffy tails. Njalo repeated to herself in an attempt to commit this new knowledge to memory. Smiling at the nameless stranger in a way that was intrigued and delighted by her new found knowledge. If the leopardess' sour demeanor registered at all with the bubbly lioness, she made no sign of it. Head tilting with interest when it seemed that her teacher had more to explain. Questioning puzzledly, Bird...? Nja was following a bird before Nja met you! It ate Nja's butterfly!
Like that one! At that very moment, choosing to float past a visage comprised of two round, citrus optics wide with excitement, a giant Bluewing butterfly appeared almost as if by magic. Without a second thought Njalo was suddenly chasing after the fluttering insect, displaying a classic case of her easily side-tracked personality. Pawing at the air in an attempt to catch the fragile creature and calling back to her companion even as the distance grew between them. Don't worry! Nja'll catch it! Then Nja can show you!
Every lunge leading the oblivious hunter further and further away. Most likely possibly never to return.
