It had been a lovely day, it really had. Odette was on her way back from the crafting supply store, with too bags full of new glaze to use at her home kiln. She was in the process of attempting to make her mother a tea set to use for special occasions—or normal occasions, it really didn’t matter which, though had run out of that pretty yellow that her mother was so fond of.
That was all she had meant to buy, some pastel yellow glaze—Sunshine Fine it was called…but it had always been an impossible task to enter a craft store, then leave with only what you went in to get. No no. When Odette went into a craft store…she bought everything she could afford…and sometimes things she really couldn’t.
At least today…it was only eight bottles of glaze. And they were buy one get one half off! So, that saved a lot of money. It was worth it. All of it was so worth it.
The brunette was in a good mood, still walking home from the store, humming softly to herself. She didn’t seem to even notice the pair of eyes staring at her from the bushes. She didn’t realize that the thing had been watching her since she walked into the store.
Finally, when the girl passed under an a now lit streetlight, the creature jumped out, making a terrible whirling screeching noise, its beak—beak was open in a terrible way. What the heal was that….A… Odette stared, swinging her bags full of glaze at the creature…what did it look like? Head of a chicken…A chicken was attacking her? No, no it wasn’t a chicken.
Odette’s eyes widened in fear as she saw the creature’s body moving out of the bushes. Why, it seemed almost like a lizard! What on earth? Finally, it seemed the girl got the bright idea to start running, though in her newly discovered haste, she managed to trip on something, a tree branch or something stupid that she didn’t manage to see.
The youma let out another one of it’s screeches, and slithered over to the fallen girl, its eyes blinking like a strobe light, a brilliant red color, ready to look into the eyes of its victim, ready to gather energy. Odette struggled to stand, though let out a little noise of disappointment as glaze began to run out of the now ripped bag. Some of her bottles had broken! All of that money...wasted!

Pomona – Super Pomona, Super! – was on patrol. She had told ********* that she was going to be more active and she meant it. She had been slacking off in the past months, spending time with friends and family instead of doing her Senshi duties, but that was going to stop. First on her priority list? Dusting youma. Stronger youma, since she was a Super now; couldn’t keep killing licorice youma as a Super.
She thought she was in luck when she felt the presence of a youma nearby and began to job, looking for something that didn’t quite fit. Something like… a giant chicken lizard? What? How was that better then a youma made of licorice?
Pomona stared at the strange sight for a while, her mind offering up the name “Cockatrice” for the creature, for all the good that did. After a minute she realized that the chicken lizard youma had a victim, which wasn’t so surprising, but its victim looked oddly familiar. Best not to dwell on that just yet and focus and saving the day instead.
“ Hey, bird brain! The cafeteria is looking for you!” Actually, if that was what the cafeteria served on fried chicken day it would explain a lot. “ Let me escort you back.”

The Cocaktrice let out a wild shriek, turning from Odette and looking at the Super Sailor Senshi. His eyes glowed and a small beam emitted from them, aimed right at Pomona.
Odette just stared. What on earth was going on...A monster was attacking her...a mythical monster that she'd read about in her history books...but...
Oh. Yeah. This couldn't have been real.
Poor Odette, she spent so much time inside or at the library, all of the things going on in Destiny City...had pretty much been ignored by her.
Finally she trembled, eyes trailing to the...girl--yeah. It was a young looking girl! What was going on here? Was she being saved by some random teenager?

Pomona never claimed to be a great Senshi. She had survived this long, so she supposed that counted for something, but she was no Iris, Nemesis, or Castor. If she was on any Nega's kill-list, it was most likely because they found her annoying, not threatening.
True to form, when the chicken-lizard shot a beam of some sort of energy, Pomona let out an undignified squawk and threw herself to the side.
" Not cool!"
Staggering back to her feet, Pomona's attention was focused firmly on the bird-beast. She put one hand on her hip, then shook a finger at it.
" Bad bird-thingy! Two can play that game. Pomona Pepper Poppers!"
After much unecessary ceremony, three peppers appeared in Pomona's hands, prepared to unlease a burning/stinging sensation on whatever they came in contact with. Pomona took one and hurled it at the creature.
" Eat this!"

The pepper landed right on the youma's eye and it let out a squawk of anger, trying to use its wings to remove the pepper from its eyes.
Odette stared, then, tried to inch away, managing to make it a few feet, before the Cockatrice let out another unearthly squawk and shot another beam at Pomona from its good eye, this time trying even harder to hit, after being blinded by the pepper.
The girl hesitated, then moved over, crashing her other bag of glaze atop the creature, then running back a few feet.
The youma's attack stopped and he let out pained cry, the jars having broken and seeped out of the bag, getting into his good eye.
The poor creatur--Wait. Odette shook her head, looking disgusted at the Chicken Lizard. "Now what?" She called to Pomona. "Is...it dead?"

Her pepper hit, which was good. It could still shoot laser-eye-beams though, which was bad. Pomona ducked to the side, landing on her knee and skinning it in her dodge attempt. Her eyes were screwed shut – not the brightest idea – and stayed that way until she heard the sound of a jar breaking. Pomona opened her eyes and craned her head to look over her shoulder.
“ Er… good question.” Pomona stood and tentatively walked towards the chicken-lizard. “ Stand back.”
Pomona threw her two remaining peppers at the creature’s head, figuring if it was still alive it would draw some sort of reaction.

As the peppers hit the lizard bird, the creature let out one last pained squawk and dissipated in a puff of dust.
Odette just stared for a long moment, her breathing slightly labored from a rush of adrenaline that had hit right before she struck the youma on the head. After she felt she could speak, she looked to Pomona.
"What...what was that thing? And..." She seemed confused. "Who...or what are you?"

Pomona breathed a sigh of relief when the youma vanished. Apparently it had been sensitive to peppers, for which she could only be grateful, because she hadn't fancied actually trying to fight the chicken-lizard.
Wiping her hands on her skirt, Pomona turned to face the civilian and blinked. Odette?! She knew that chances were she'd eventually rescue a civilian she knew, but it still caught her off-guard.
" That was a youma monster; their lucky victims are drained of energy and left severely fatigued. As for me, I'm a Senshi. I try to stop the youma and the ones that create them."

Odette just stared up at the 'Senshi' or whatever.
"What is a Senshi? I've never heard of that...you're..."
She hesitated, she had heard rumors of 'terrorists' and the like running about, but...this one had saved her...so...the terrorists couldn't be that horrible...right?
"You're one of the..." her voice dropped a bit. "One of the terrorists? Or was that one of the terrorists? Are there even terrorists around? Or is that just people jumping to conclusions?"
...She was so damn confused right then.

“ Terrorist? No, I’m not a terrorist. I guess you could consider that monster and it’s handler terrorists though.”
Pomona put her arms behind her head and looked thoughtful, trying to think of the best way to explain things. Normally she gave general, do-good explanations, but this was her cousin, so she wanted to get this right.
“ Terrorists cause terror and want to hurt others, right? Senshi don’t do that, at least not on purpose. Senshi have magic, but it’s not, like, Harry Potter magic. My magic gives me peppers. I know one Senshi who’s magic makes metal stuff fly around. It’s possible our magic will cause collateral damage, but we don’t mean to. The terrorists…”
How to word this? She could go on for hours about this subject, but she didn’t want to give a full lecture out in public about this stuff to civilian, even if that civilian was her cousin.
“ The terrorists… well, they’re bad guys. They have someone they call a Queen that wants to rule the world. They have other goals too, and to achieve their goals they drain energy from people to fuel their magic. They used to kill people outright, and still do sometimes.”
Did that cover all the important points? She thought it did. Of course, being told a fairy tale would probably be just as believable, but Pomona couldn’t help that; she didn’t write this strange soap opera called life.

Odette listened, but then just shook her head, staring at the 'senshi'.
"I...I see...Well, thank you very much for saving me...That...was really scary." She let out a little laugh then looked mournfully at her broken bottles of pottery glaze.
"Well..there went my allowance...Oh well..guess it helped to save my life so I can't really complain..."

“ That I’m afraid I can’t help with. Being a superhero doesn’t pay very well.”
Or at all really, except in cuts and bruises.
“ I’d suggest carrying pepper spray or some other self-defense item with you. Might save your future purchases from a similar fate, yeah?”
Pearls of wisdom dispensed, Pomona was at a loss for what to say. The things she wanted to say she couldn’t, not without revealing her identity, so eventually decided it was best to avoid temptation and leave while she was ahead.
“ Well, I guess I best be off. Take care!”
Pomona waved and jogged off, presumable to go do more Senshi-type things. In reality she was just dropping back, having every intention of following Odette to make sure she got home safely.
