Roch scowled, feeling extremely frustrated. He kept screwing himself over when it came to friends, and he knew it. He hadn't talked to Claire since that little chat, he was having trouble forgiving Moure, too. Well, that was Moure's fault, if you asked the reaper boil, but still--
Dammit, he didn't want to lose Danny, too! That's what it came down to, wasn't it? The poor reaper boil was everyone's buddy when they were in the same room, but only a few of them actually qualified as friends he would seek out--or that would seek him out. But jackdammit, she was acting childish, and he was going to tell her that to her face!
If... he could find her, that was. He looked around the school grounds before heading down the path that led to the demon dorms. She had to be around here somewhere, right?

Food. Food food food. Food? Food!
Danny was on her way to the cafeteria to get some food, because she was currently out of both hot dogs and snotcorn. Sadly, that really was all she had in her dorm. On her way out of the cafeteria she planned to go to Claire's dorm to steal some food (she was a gluttony demon so she was bound to have lots of food right?). It was a pretty sweet plan in her eyes.
Normally she would go to Roch's dorm but she was still feeling a little grumpy with him. How could he bring that ... cold thing to their club? That just wasn't fair. Maybe he was secretly just trying to kill her. That thought sort of hurt. Danny liked Roch. He wouldn't do that to her, right?
Danny shook her head. She was going out for food. This was no time to be thinking about sad things! Food was happy.
Yet speak of the devil, there was Roch walking down the path to the demon dorms. Now why was he going there? Probably to talk to his new stupid best friend Edel. Danny gritted her teeth and darted into one of the dead bushes near the path.
Now why did I do that? she thought. Roch was one of her best friends, why should she have to hide from him? Still, regardless of how much she reasoned with herself, she couldn't find it in her to get out of the bush. She didn't want to face him just yet. Even if it was childish of her ... well no, Danny basically lived off childishness, so this was nothing new.
There was just a little teensy problem. Fire + Bush = Bigger fire. Danny was so focused on hiding that she forgot her tail was sort of on fire. It didn't take more than a minute or two than the bush was completely on fire. Well the gnomes wouldn't like this one. Danny stayed in the bush though- after all, fire wasn't exactly scary for her. The only thing was that now everyone with a 50 foot radius was wondering why there was a bush on fire near the pathway.

Burning bush. Roch pulled to a stop to stare at it, then sighed, running a hand over his face. Why... seriously, why was one of his only close friends a pyromaniac idiot? He walked over, peering behind the flaming bush. "Danny," he said. "You burned down a bush."
He didn't look as if he was going to try and put the fire out, but he did search his pockets. "And you didn't bring any marshmallows, did you?" he added, pulling a small thing of graham crackers out of his pocket. "Think I got some chocolate here somewhere..." he added, patting his other pockets.

Oh goodie. Just the person she didnt want to see. Which was odd, because normally Roch was very far away from holding that position. Danny crossed her arms for a moment, choosing not to look at him. She was really being childish.
Standing up, she brushed off a bit of the ash that was left from the bush's flame. As much as Danny wanted to nab the graham cracker and run like she normally would, suddenly she wasn't so hungry anymore. Danny looked down at her tummy in confusion. Her stomach was always hungry. This was weird. This whole situation was weird.
So Danny decided she wanted to leave it. She stalked off towards her dorm, with her tail swinging low. It wasn't it's normal bright, big flame- it was something smaller, more dense, but still burning with the same intensity. Crossly, without even turning around, she added, "I don't have an marshmallows. Why don't you go ask Edel." Yeah, she was mad. Was it showing?
Was it a stupid argument? Maybe. Did it make Danny any less upset? No.
She wasn't normally one to hold grudges either. Honestly, she couldn't even normally hold grudges for more than a day because come the next morning she would have already forgotten what the problem was. This was different though. This was Roch.

"Frozen marshmallows don't really float my boat," he said, opening the graham crackers and biting into one. "Danny, we gotta talk," he added, finishing off the cracker and pocketing the rest of them. That in itself was an odd action, but truthfully Roch had been acting a bit odd since the florescetival. "We can talk behind the bush or on a bench or something, but we gotta talk." Oh, she was pouting, wasn't she? That whole Edel thing really stuck in her craw.
It was almost funny. "Because I'm nice, and you're nice--"

Oh no no no. He couldn't use her thing against him. Everyone was nice, but everyone just could not include Edel. That was her logic, and she was sticking to it.
Roch had a problem on his hands now. Danny didn't want to talk. She never did. When it came to her problems, she was a runner. The demoness never dealt with anything properly, she just ran from the scene of the crime until no one could find her. Hide under a rock for a while, then come out when no one could remember it.
So Danny did what she did best. Roch was only a foot or two away from her, and she had long legs. Without saying a word she pivoted around and kicked him square in the stomach, like the karate kid himself. It was a solid kick too. Fighting was just about the only thing Danny did well in, and it was definitely the only thing she excelled at. She knew how to kick a stomach hard.
We have to blankity blank. Danny hated those words. All her life she had been told things she was supposed to do. As a ghoul she was supposed to be delicate. She was supposed to be smart. She was supposed to make money and be rich and happy just like her parents.
After he had landed on the ground a foot or two away, Danny screeched, "I DON'T HAVE TO DO ANYTHING ROCH." If tears could form in her eyes, they would.
The red finally vanished from her eyes though. When she realized what she'd done, her eyes went wide and she and took a few faltered steps back. She had just kicked her best friend, for wanting to talk to her. That was wrong. That was beyond wrong. It was a problem.
So Danny booked it. She turned around and ran off towards the demon dorms, with Roch still lying there on the ground.

Roch grunted, grasping his gut. He would have blocked, but seriously, who would have EXPECTED her to just outright kick him for wanting to talk to her? "You... little... s**t," he growled, getting to his hands and knees, then pushing to his feet. He raced after her, ignoring the throbbing in his guts, and dove for her legs to wrap his arms around them and force her to fall flat on her face.
"You little pain in the a**!" he bellowed. "Why the hell are you my best friend?" he demanded roughly.

Danny stared at Roch from where he was- which now was only a few inches above her face. If they didn't start looking at the burning bush, people were certainly staring at the twosome now thanks to Roch's tackle. Why did they always seem to end up on the ground some way?
Regardless of how close he was, Danny couldn't bring herself to look him in the eyes. She would just feel too much guilt for kicking him so hard. She was already reliving the moment in her head, why suffer more?
Roch's question caught her off guard. That was the first time Roch had called her his best friend. It was sort of unspoken that they were- after all, you don't suddenly say "hey, we are now best friends," but for Danny, things needed to be spelled out like that. It was official now, right? This was a big step. She didn't have best friends at home. She had friends sure, and maceball playing teammates, but she had never really had a best friend.
Danny's response was choked, but she said, "I d-dont kn-knowwwwwwww." She was shivering like crazy- something she always did when she was upset. It was like crying, but for fire demons.
Still, just because she was upset didn't mean she wasn't stronger than Roch. She pushed his stupid body off of her and sat up, but this time, she stayed on the path, holding her legs close to her. People around the twosome were making annoyed faces that they were sitting in the middle of the path, but she wasn't really paying attention to them. Even if she was sitting with her legs secured, she was still shivering like crazy.

"Oh for jack's sake," Roch muttered, getting to his feet and looking down at her. "Get up, we're being stared at. Again." He muttered something dark, really sucking at this comforting thing.
"Hey, come on, quit... that. Whatever that is," he added, reaching for her hand. "You're a big, tough demon, remember? You play maceball and play the guitar. And guitar players are the toughest around!" Lie. Claire played the guitar, right? That was definitely not his definition of tough, but he'd ignore that fact.
He dug through his pockets, finding something shiny in his pocket-- it wasn't much, just a cheap chain he'd bought earlier, but she liked shiny things, right. He swung it in front of her face.

Danny didn't feel like a big tough demon. She felt like an inferior demon, something she didn't often feel except when she was lying in bed at night thinking about certain things and emotions from her past. Not many people saw her like this, and though Roch may not know it, this was a big deal.
Either way, Danny reached out and grabbed his hand and pulled herself up slowly. She was still shaking, but it was beginning to subside. Still present though. As soon as she was upright, Danny immediately let go over his hand and crossed her arms across her chest abrasively. She wasn't ready to forgive him, not by any means.
To all of his banter though, Danny just said exactly what was on her mind. "I don't feel big and tough." It was rather emotionless for someone who was normally ... overflowing with emotion. Her tail whipped back and forth with anxiousness. She didn't even notice the chain he was dangling, her eyes were too fixated on the ground, the path, other people- anywhere but Roch. It was that bad.

Whoa... this really was serious. "So it's kinda like if you had let a ghost join the group without me knowing, huh?" he said quietly as he pocketed the chain again. He reached up, dropping a hand on her shoulder. "Hey, this is personal talk, right? Think this place is a bit crowded for that?"
He looked around, watching other students walking past them, looking at them curiously. They probably thought something else was going on, he figured, but he didn't care. "Hey, you hungry? Cuz I could go for a snack or something. Why don't we go to the cafeteria and grab something to eat while we talk?"

Though the hand on her shoulder was an actual attempt at comfort from Roch, it just made Danny feel even more distanced from him. Like he was eons away. It was such a weird feeling, Danny had never really been this ... upset? because of anyone before. Having friends was hard.
She was still shaking though, and it was starting to make her cold. She was getting sort of dizzy. To steady herself, she put her forehead on Roch's chest. Most people would use their hands and arms to steady themselves, but Danny's seemed stuck at her sides.
Food? Danny just muttered, "Don't wanna." This was going to be a tough cookie to crack. She wasn't about to make it any easier on him.

Okay, this was why he should have gotten a guy for a best friend, Roch decided as he braced himself against her weight. "Okay, no food," he said with a sigh. "Can we at least get off the path? That way we're not blocking the people trying to go down it."
Awkwardly he reached around her waist, turning so he could sort of guide her off of the path. "You're a pain in the a**, did you know that? All that talk about how I have to let Moure into the club--even though he's a two timing b*****d who asked MY date out in the middle of PROM--"

Danny started walking off the path slowly with Roch, her head now situated on his shoulder. Honestly, she wanted to just hop on his back and let him carry her, but Roch was way too much of a stick for that. She was getting sleepier and sleepier thanks to her loss of heat from shivering just now, and was actually pretty thankful to have a shoulder to lean on at all.
Sluggishly she replied, "You're a pain in the a**!" It was half-hearted though. Out of the corner of her eye, Danny spotted a big black tree with a sort of indent in it's trunk. That looked comfortable. Letting go of Roch, she went and sat down at the tree. It was oddly relieving to get away from him, even for a few minutes.
As she ran off she heard him mutter something about Moure. Not again. Why did he hate Moure so much? Moure was a good person, even if there was a mishap at prom.
Of course, Danny was being a complete, 100% hypocrite about her situation with Edel, not that she'd ever see the connection. Right now she wanted to forget about Edel and the club and just sit with her best friend Roch. That sounded nice.

He dropped down next to the tree, leaning back against it and bending one knee so he could rest a forearm on it. Then he lowered it again, summoning his guitar and playing a soft song to himself. He needed to calm down, because clearly he wasn't going to be arguing, he was going to be coaxing the little annoyance.
As the soft song filled the air he said something he hadn't planned on telling even her. "I've almost died a ton of times, did you know that?"
