It had been pretty quiet so far, and Valhalla was glad that his patrol wasn't putting him in range of anything with sharp claws and fangs, or equally sharp and dangerous weapons. He'd had enough fighting to last him a lifetime, so running into any more negaverse agents, especially by himself, wasn't something he was particularly looking forward to.

He didn't have any set destination for where he wanted to go that night, although he did his best to stay to a set path, if only to ensure that he made it back home at a descent hour. He was banking on about six hours of sleep every night, and then plenty of coffee or tea to get him through the day. It wasn't very healthy, but neither was it healthy for monsters to be running around, attacking innocent people. Keeping the city as safe as humanly possible was a bit more important than getting a full eight hours at night.

Reluctantly jumping from roof to roof, Valhalla took a few moments here and there to glance down at the alleys and strain his ears and the strange extra sense he had for picking up others' energies, before moving on. He stopped to gaze at the hospital across the street from where he was up on a roof, frowning at it and wondering when he'd end up in there. Or even worse — if someone he knew ended up in there. It wasn't a very comforting thought, to say the least.

There were many things one was not supposed to do while recovering from a serious injury in the hospital. Getting out of bed was frowned upon, clearly, particularly when the wound was on the leg. Removing the equipment and monitors, and the IV needle, were also big 'don'ts'. Leaving the room without permission? Definitely not a good way to make friends with doctors and nurses.

Climbing out the window, powering up into a bad guy fighting alter ego and slipping away to do some small patrolling, or at least just be able to move? Definitely not smiled upon.

Camelot couldn't help himself. He felt so trapped in the hospital, and he needed air. He needed to move and to feel like he was not wasting his time there. The longer he was in the hospital, the more people would get hurt. Killed. He wasn't the only one out there doing the job, but he needed to help. Every last person protecting the innocent was needed.

And the war between Senshi and Nega never slept.

He was sitting on the roof of the hospital, already tired just from climbing out and powering up. He was rubbing his leg, which was aching miserably, and he looked up when he felt a familiar aura. He saw Valhalla land nearby and felt like a deer in headlights, or a kid with his hand in the cookie jar. Maybe caught with his hand in the metaphorical cookie jar and in headlights.

He tried to look innocent and completely failed.

"Ah... Valhalla. What are you doing here?" He asked, smiling and sounding as conversational as a man who knew he was up to no good could.

Caught with his hand in the metaphorical cookie jar and in headlights, indeed.

It didn't take long for Valhalla to catch sight of the man across the way, and once he did he frowned, and looked around for the easiest route to the hospital roof. Speak of the devil. One of the people he didn't want to see near a hospital and there he was.

Sure, he wasn't really sure what Camelot thought of him — the librarian had obviously been doing this thing a lot longer than Valhalla had — but it was okay to think of him as some kind of mentor, right...? After all, he'd been the first person (other than his best friend/cat who had been there when he'd awakened) that he'd met. Camelot was one of the reasons he wasn't freaking out about being a strange super hero of sorts.

"I should be asking you the same thing," he countered, eyeing the older knight suspiciously as he jumped down, across an alley and over to where he could get up onto the roof where Camelot was. He hadn't heard from the man in a while and he was beginning to worry about him. He wouldn't have been on guard had it not been for the fact that Camelot had greeted him so nonchalantly.

"I was patrolling," he said, his voice lowered now that he was within actual talking distance, although he made sure to glance around to see if there were any signs of youma or just bad things in general. "What were you doing...?"

He didn't mean to sound so accusatory, but with the way that he'd seen Camelot rubbing at his leg, well... it was enough to put him on alert.

"I... uhm... I was.... ah..."

In things like this, Camelot was a terrible liar. He had never been good at covering his tracks when he knew he was in the wrong and he should be telling the truth. He had every chance to be honest. It wasn't like he needed to keep this secret for his own or for anyone else's safety, which was different entirely.

This was just him being a bad patient. He cleared his throat.

"I... well. I was near the hospital so I thought I might take some time to do a patrol while I'm here... you know, make sure all the injured people inside are safe."

He tried to stand straight and look relaxed, but he was clearly not putting the weight he could have, or should have if he really was casual, on his leg. So he switched tactics and hoped to distract Valhalla from it by keeping him talking.

"How have you been doing?"

Valhalla wasn't fooled. His brothers were great liars, so it wasn't difficult to pick out a bad one. The stuttering kind of gave it away. It was okay, though. He was a bad liar at times, too. He hadn't inherited the lying gene his brothers got, apparently.

"Uh huh," he said, crossing his arms over his chest as he frowned at the other knight. "Well, if you're on patrol, then we might as well go together. Come on, we can start over there," Valhalla said, nodding towards the far end of the building and taking a couple steps in that direction, before looking over his shoulder at Camelot.

"Coming? Or would you rather look elsewhere?"

He was setting him up. He didn't like the way he put spaces between his words. Camelot was usually better at speaking, so he knew something must be up.

"I've been fine. Running into youma and negaverse agents, being pulled through mirrors and alternate dimensions, the usual." Okay, he'd only been pulled through one mirror and once through the nega-dimension or whatever it was called, but still. If Camelot could exaggerate, then he could exaggerate, too.

Camelot did not like the idea of going on patrol with Valhalla. Normally, of course, he was all for the buddy system and would have gladly gone with his fellow Knight of Destiny.

But at the moment, he would certainly give himself away if he tried to patrol as normal.

"Uhm. Uh."

Sensing the set up, but having very few options and no good ideas coming to him, he got up as best he could. He kept his weight off his bad leg, realizing quickly that being doped up on drugs, while a lovely feeling of no pain, did not make the limb magically work again. he could barely judge how much weight he could truly bear on it, while not being able to very obviously limp or drag himself around as he had so far in his escape attempt.

"Maybe we should patrol. Uh. Around... this roof..."

He cleared his throat.

"I don't think the roof of the hospital is going to take that long to patrol, Camelot," the page said with a frown that looked as though he was trying to decide if he wanted to let the older man continue with his charade or to cut to the chase.

"Are you hurt?" he asked finally, not really enjoying going around in circles with this. Valhalla turned to approach the man, looking him over his arms still crossed over his chest. "You know you'll be a sitting duck if a monster shows up," he said, still trying to keep himself in check and calm. There was no use shouting or losing his temper when there were more important things to worry about.

"Do you want to tell me what happened?" Valhalla asked, forcing himself not to clench his teeth as he spoke, but that didn't stop him from frowning disapprovingly at the other page. "Do you even have your headset with you??"

Okay, now his tolerance level was starting to drop rather quickly...

Valhalla certainly had a point, and Camelot knew it. He probably shouldn't have said that last bit, but his rambly brain didn't know how to stop it from pouring out.

Sighing, he nodded his head.

"I know. I had no intention of putting myself in danger. I just... needed to get out of that bed, and thought it might be easier to do if I powered up for a bit. It was innocent, I swear."

Actually, if he had been able to hobble away and get home, he wouldn't have gone back to the hospital again. So he did have the devious idea of running away, but other than that it had been innocent. The last thing he really wanted was to run into a youma, even if he was quelling his worry by looking around for trouble as he felt obligated to do.

He was getting chastised like a kid by someone much younger than him. It made him deflate a little.

"The doctors collected all my things, they're in a drawer inside. So yes, I do have it. It's just... in my room. And I'm fine, I just..." he dropped his voice and mumbled. "Had a stick stabbed through my thigh."

Valhalla stared at Camelot, unmoving, although he was sure his eye twitched once or twice.

"You had what stabbed through what?" he started calmly, but that demeanor was quickly disintegrating. "Where in your thigh?? If it hit your femoral artery, you better get the hell back in bed. What if you're not healed well enough and you tear it from running around and then you bleed out internally??" he all but shouted, starting to pace in front of Camelot since he couldn't get closer without running into him.

"And you don't even have your headset. Great, just great. What if I wasn't here? What if there'd been a youma that decided to be out here while you couldn't move or call for help? Did you think about that?? What would have happened then?" Valhalla fussed, eyeing the older man in disapproval. Yeah, he realized that he could make his own decisions and all that, but sneaking out of bed?

"It's selfish, putting yourself in danger when people care about you and want you to be well," he pointed out, taking a moment to stop and scowl at Camelot, before going back to pacing and grumbling to himself about how they'd have to get a babysitter for him if he was going to be sneaking out when he was injured.

Camelot stared hard at the floor. Suddenly, the patterns on the roof seemed suddenly very interesting to him, and he just couldn't drag his eyes away from it.

He knew Valhalla was less than thrilled. Wasn't this supposed to be his job? Fretting about the others, making sure they were safe, being the dad of the group. Yet here he was, feeling like the unruly teenager, and Valhalla was doing a sufficient job, filling in the older role.

"I won't bleed out. I don't think I hit anything vital. The doctors haven't mentioned it, at least, and they seem to yell at me quite a lot for doing simple things like wanting to pee standing up instead of into a bag." He sighed, imagining that was a bit of an overshare.

"I know. I know I shouldn't be out here, but I feel... stir crazy. I feel like people are out here, getting hurt, and I'm in there, sleeping in an almost comfortable bed for hours on end. It's unreasonable, I know you guys are out here too, and you can handle things, but I worry about you, too. If one of you got hurt while I was laid up..."

He sighed.

"I'll stay in bed and heal. I will keep my headset with me, though, and if any of you get in any trouble, I want to hear about it."

The frown on his face never lessened, but his eyebrows, furrowed in frustration, slowly relaxed as he watched the older man stare at the ground and listened as Camelot spoke. Well, jeez, didn't he feel like a jerk?He was suffering from the same restlessness that Valhalla felt all the time and he was harassing him for it.

He let out a long sigh, cautiously taking a few steps towards his fellow page and reaching out a hand to gently pat the back of his shoulder. "Sorry," he apologized, sounding rather embarrassed for his outburst. "I know it's rough... but it's for the best, okay?"

Valhalla knew that probably wouldn't convince him, and he let out another sigh. He didn't mind Camelot. In fact he was sure that the older man was a mentor figure to a lot of people, himself included. He just knew he'd be devastated if something happened to him and he couldn't recover, even if they didn't know each other all that well yet.

"What's your room number?" he said suddenly, showing Camelot what looked like an awkward half-grin. "I'll come down and visit... But only after you get back to your room, understand? Hopefully no one will realize you're missing and put the hospital on full alert." He paused for a moment, taking a step back. "Do you need help getting back down?" He could at least lend him a hand...

Camelot looked at Valhalla after he patted him on the shoulder, smiling softly. He shook his head, lifting a hand to wave off the apology. He knew that the younger man had a very real reason to be angry, and his objections were fully justified.

"Don't apologize, especially because you're right. It is reckless and fairly stupid for me to be out. If I did get hit by a youma I'd be hurt worse than I am now. Killed. And I certainly wouldn't be able to protect anyone."

Camelot could be reasonable when he needed to be, of course. More often than not, in fact, he liked to keep himself understanding and reasonable. It was just feeling so helpless after very nearly dying.

"Two seventeen," he said, smiling, "I don't think anyone is missing me. I've learned their schedule rather well... you know... just in case..." He cleared his throat. He had been being devious, and he knew he shouldn't have been. Still, how could he help it? The stir crazies had got the better of him, and he couldn't be alone with his thoughts for another night.

Really, coming out had been a good idea, in the end, because he had at least gotten some company out of the deal.

"I think I can manage. Or, rather, I'd like to get back down on my own. Not feel as useless as I actually, ah... feel."

Valhalla gave the other page a small nod to let him know he'd remember the number, although he gave him another wary look at his insistance that he didn't need help. This guy was stubborn, and although he would like to keep making sure that he didn't do anything to get himself injured more, he had the feeling that Camelot would do it, either way.

That just meant he would harass him even more about it...

"I swear," he started, taking a few steps back to give the man some space since he wanted to get down himself do badly. "If you end up getting hurt again, I'm going to have them strap you to your bed so you can't escape." He gave him a look that was both serious and both empty threat. It would really depend on what happened for him to carry through with it. And he sincerely hoped that would never happen.

"I'll see you in a little bit, then. I'll wait up here until you're inside..." he told him, ducking into the shadows of another building that was taller than the hospital. He'd just go down to visit him once he was sure he'd made it into his room safely and powered down.
PostPosted: Mon Aug 22, 2011 12:39 pm

Camelot looked mortified by the idea of being tied down to his bed. Maybe because he had, in the back of his mind, still been counting on slipping out of the room to at least get some fresh air. He hoped Valhalla was just joking, of course, and offered him a chuckle and a smile.

"I'll bear that in mind," he droned thoughtfully.

Camelot saw him off, then moved to very slowly climb his way back into his hospital room. it wasn't particularly quick, and far from graceful, but he managed, slow and steady, to get back to his bed without doing himself any permanent harm. He was very tired by the time he powered down and sat on his bed, looking at all the wires and things he had taken off in his effort to escape.

He'd have to put the IV back in, but maybe he could convince a nurse it had fallen out. They were on to him, though, and knew he wasn't a very good patient as far as being... patient went. Maybe if he smiled sadly at them and promised he wouldn't do it again...

His sweet expression and innocent would only get him so far for so long.

Laying back in the bed, he closed his eyes and fell to sleep almost immediately, though that hadn't been his goal. he had only wanted to rest his eyes and let his mind take a little bit of a break. It turned into a nap.
