Ah, Gym Class...Filled with sweaty people, working hard, determined to reach a goal of some sort...
. . .Oh how she hated it.

Clowrey Eir moved quietly into the amphitheater, dreading what sort of horrific torture they'd be put through. The gym was extraordinarily large, with a place to get to the training grounds out back, and filled with all sort of hi-tech equipment to suit all manners of needs and powers. There were some students, 2nd years and such, already there and training themselves...Or perhaps they were there to watch how the new bloods would handle their first gym course.
'Bloody bastards...Ugh, I should've faked illness or something. Eat something bad. And these gym clothes are stupid!'

The girl tucked away her spectacles and blackened her eyes; it was way too bright in this Academy and her transitions glasses did squat. She stared with her dark eyes, at all her classmates here to attend this grueling class..."I haaaaaaaaaaaaaaates this," she groaned, not caring who heard. For as acrobatic as she was, her rebellious ways just would not let her tolerate exercise regiments of any type--If they had to fight someone on their first day here, she swore she was going to fog up this ENTIRE gym...

"Oh! Sorry!" Clowrey exclaimed as she bumped into someone.

Gym. This was possibly the class that Dani had been looking forward to the most. It wasn’t that she excelled at the subject – she was mediocre at best – but this wasn’t going to be like the PE lessons she had attended before; everyone around her was superpowered. She didn’t know what kinds of talents the people around her had but it was bound to make for an interesting hour and a half. As she did a few warm up stretches Danica wondered how much of this class was going to be tailored to the ‘superhero lifestyle’ and how much of it was going to be mundane things like badminton or track.

There were students from other years scattered about the room with various power-specific workout devices, chatting amongst themselves and watching the new students gathering for their first gym class. Dani didn’t particularly like the attention but thankfully some of the more rambunctious and alien looking students were drawing most of the eyes. Her class, to their credit, seemed to be too excited to care how other people were looking at them. They were talking loudly; bragging, and boasting, and showing off. It was kind of comforting to know that somethings didn’t change no matter where you were going to school.

Danica stretched her arms up over her head and leaned to the side just as another girl decided to walk past. They bumped into each other and Dani dropped her arms in surprise. “Sorry!” Danica exclaimed in stereo with the other party. After a pause, she laughed and said, “hi, I’m Dani.”

She held her hand out for the other girl to shake. The other girl was about her size and age, with brown hair and pitch black eyes. Everyone I meet seems to have really interesting eyes, Danica thought briefly. Besides the eyes she had no obvious physical mutations or clues as to what her abilities might be. She might have guessed they had something to do with her eyes but, as she learned from Basia, sometimes eyes are just eyes. Well, she’d probably find out what they were during the class.

Clowrey shook Dani's hand in turn, and with a small smile introduced herself as well; "Name's Clowrey--But 'Clairvere' or 'Clow' is just fine." She lowered her arm, sighing dramatically, "Isn't gym the worse class ever?
And ugh, what's with those show offs over yonder?"
She jabbed a thumb towards the loudest of those boasting and such, which consisted of mostly young boys. "It's clear they're not gonna last long..." Maybe she just woke up on the wrong side of the bed(granted, she'd only been in the infirmary bed a day and a half ago), but Clowrey seemed a little...grumpy at the moment. Her condescending comments weren't heard by any others, though.
    "Tch, really should've just skipped..."

Dani grinned. “I don’t know,” she drawled good naturedly, “I’m kind of excited to see everyone’s powers.”

Danica resumed her stretching, but in a way that did not prevent her from continuing their conversation. This girl seemed nice enough. Her personality came off a bit strong, but that wasn’t a bad thing. “Don’t get me wrong, I’m not actually looking forward to doing… whatever it is we’re going to be doing here myself, but it’s not going to be like normal gym class is it? I mean… look at that guy over there.” Dani pointed to one of the guys in their class, who was currently lifting three of the other guys in their class over his head. “It’s not like they’re going to make him… I don’t know… play volleyball or something. He would probably hit the ball so hard it would crack the floor. All I’m saying is that I think it’s going to make for an interesting show.”

"I'unno...At least that'd be interesting." She smirked at Dani's example, the imagery being rather amusing to the Tasean. Honestly though, she had enough of 'training' and such back home...She could understand they all needed to hone their abilities, but gym? Maybe it was just the word itself, but it brought up an instant feeling of boredom inside Clowrey. Again, she groaned and plopped down in one of the bleachers. "So you've got no clue what we'd be doing today either? Since it's the first day, it'll probably something mundane like...jumping jacks."
Ohhhh, so very far from it, as they would soon discover.

Their teacher arrived at last, promptly calling for the students to get in line..."All of you have arrived to this academy by many means and for many reasons--Each of you are here due to unique, but ultimately similar circumstances. It's because you all can't do squat."
"Oh great...One of those teachers," Clowrey grumbled under her breath so only those directly next to her could hear. "Hooray for a*****e gym teachers being everywhere..."
"Each and every one of you can not control themselves, at least well enough. You're got no will power and are basically weak...But you're here to change that. At least, to see if you can change.
To determine your strengths and current limits, you newbies will undergo the all-time classic test...
    The Obstacle Course.
Keep in mind that being where you are, it won't be an ordinary one...I'll give you all 5 minutes to prepare."

'...Wait, prepare for WHAT? He didn't say what would be on the obstacle course!'

Danica switched stretches and watched her new companion as she sauntered over to the bleachers and sat down. She looked… bored. Clearly this girl was not as easily contented as herself. Dani frowned. “Well… I hope it’s something more interesting that.”

Their teacher, a large, gruff looking man, came into the gym and yelled loudly for the students to fall in line. Clowrey and Danica walked up together, while the teacher gave his opening speech. Dani nodded. “Apparently some things really don’t change.” Even the things she rather wished would. The redhead found herself rather resenting the man’s tone – even if what he was saying was more or less true, where she was concerned anyway – and that feeling raised in her the kind of battlefield friendship for the malcontent brunette next to her that mean spirited gym teachers were known for inspiring in their students.

At the mention of an obstacle course a roar of whispering erupted amongst the students. As far as gym class activities went it did seem rather interesting but… the malicious snickering of the older students across the gym gave Danica an ominous feeling. They were, she suspected, about to walk into something really very horrible.

While they waited for The b*****d to give them more information about the mysterious obstacle course, the class was divided into groups of four. Clowrey and Danica were sorted into the same group, by virtue of being standing relatively near each other, with a girl and boy who both looked strong enough to wrestle a small elephant and win. It hardly seemed fair that she was going to be compared to these people who had a clear physical advantage over her. She supposed that Clowrey might be in the same boat at her – they were about the same physical size after all, although the brunette had that look about her that suggested she was much more agile than you would maybe suspect – but with super powers you never really could be too sure. For all Dani knew her knew friend could fly or some other nonsense.

“Suddenly I’m beginning to rethink my earlier optimism.” Dani muttered to the brunette standing beside her.

{{ I was going to include further instruction from the teacher but I figured
that my post was maybe already long enough x’D . And they do have five
minutes after all~. You can do a rather lot of talking in that time. }}

    "No kidding."

Clowrey kept looking around the gym, trying to get an inkling of what could possibly be on this 'monstrous' obstacle course...But there was nothing in the gym that looked even close. And it didn't look like the gym teacher was going to bring anything out...Very suspicious, if you added how the older kids were looking at them funny. But she kept glancing around anyway, ignoring when the other 2 in the group were bragging about themselves or some nonsense. When she had enough of it, she quickly snapped, with a bit of Tasean mixed in:
"You guys don't even know what's going to be on this course--Whereas the teachers already got all this info about all of us and what we do. >>Dumbasses. Now shut it!<<" Damn, she was grumpy today...

Her eyes fell to some of the older students, whispering to themselves. They still had 3 minutes...possibly enough time to figure out what they were saying. Hopefully it'd be about the course...Clowrey headed over to eavesdrop.

Dani kept her mouth shut and watched the other kids. Most of them, she felt, were a bit over confident. Maybe they were more comfortable with their powers than she was, but they were still new. They coudn't be that much better than her. Could they? Before she could dwell too much on that train of thought, her new friend interrupted her inner dialog by yelling at their team mates. Dani scratched her cheek in an attempt to hide her grin and she followed Clowrey a little farther into the gym.

At first she wondered what the other girl was doing, but when she positioned herself within earshot of a group of gossiping older students, she figured it out. Doing a little reconnaissance? Not a bad idea. The chatter stilled a bit as they neared, and a few of the chatterers eyed them wearily, until Dani began talking to the foul tempered brunette again. “So, was that Tasean you were speaking back there? I had a neighbour that spoke it a while back.”

She smiled pleasantly while she spoke, and angled herself to be able to hear the older student’s resumed conversation more easily. “So what do you think is going to get those two? The pits? Personally, I think it will be the lasers. That redhead is probably a pyromancer and the guns are fireproof.” – “Not all redheads are pyromancers, idiot.” – “You are!” – “Uugh.”

So… lasers. Some kind of pit. This did not sound like the kind of obstacle course they ran back at her old school. Danica gave Clowrey a weary look, trying to tell if she had heard that bit.

Seeing Dani come up, Clowrey diverted her attention just a little bit. At least keeping her eyes on the girl, to avoid looking suspicious standing near the older years--Had the ginger figured out what she was trying to do then? Talking to her to help cover her up? 'I'm liking this one,' Clowrey thought to herself, and then responded back. "Yeah, I'm from Tasea born and raised," she confirmed, "What about you? You from inland or some place else?" She kept her voice at a steady pitch, as to not overpower the voices of their seniors...And she certainly didn't like what she heard. 'If what doesn't kill us doesn't make us stronger, it's definitely gonna make us deader.'

"Clowrey, are you worried about the course?"
Her eyes went just past Danica, where the shadowy Corduroy stood afloat. And she thought about the question for a moment, then looked to the redhead's weary signal... At all once her lips curled up into a grin and she gave the both of them a thumbs-up:
">>Hell no<<. I'm gonna wreck this thing ten different ways to New Years!"

"Ugh...I'm not sure what's more baffling:
How confident you are..or how stupid you are."

The whistle rang, signalling the students to get back in line as the obstacle course was about to take place. The students would stand to the side as teh coach flipped some sort of remote control switch and 3 hatches opened up in the floor. "2 groups will each take one of these hatches to enter their part of the obstacle course. Each piece of the obstacle course are the same length, but have different stages and obstacles to adverse you. Choose wisely, because once you enter...The door with automatically close and you will not be able to leave.
I, and the rest of the non-participants, will be watching from up here on these screens beside me.

The goal of the obstacle course is to finish...There is no actual time limit."

No time limit? Either he expected them to fail...Well, no, that was about it. 'But damn, 3 different obstacles and each one is different. But we don't know what any of them has...' Clowrey thought in annoyance. She glanced around her as some groups began to hesitantly decide which hatch to take. From the looks of it, her group and another would be taking the middle one. Coming up to it, she could see nothing but darkness down the hatch. It was about time to enter...

One by one, they all leapt the short distance down into utter darkness save for the light from the gym above. But that light disappeared once everyone was supposedly down and the hatch shut. Over some PA system, they'd hear teh coach's voice once more:
"By the way, even though you're in groups...you do not need to finish together. That's all; good luck.
Starting in 3...2...1!"

Lights flashed on--There were impenetrable walls on either side to keep people from going into the other obstacle course. The only way to go...was forward, and there seemed to be a tall climbing wall blocking their view. One person started to rush towards it, only to cry out when the floor opened up beneath him and he fell through! Clowrey blinked in surprise and realized that in the several feet before the wall were squares. Some were solid...and some would be traps. 'And so it begins.'

Danica smiled at her partner’s enthusiasm and followed her over to where the other students were gathering. No time limit? That could not mean good things for them… however, maybe it was a subtle hint that slow and steady would be the way to win this race? She looked over at their muscle-bound and ready-for-a-fight looking instructor. On the other hand, maybe not.

Three doors opened up in the floor, leading to a murky black nothingness. Her group, and one other, decided to take the middle one. Honestly, it was probably just as good a choice as any of the others. They descended into the darkness and waited for further instructions. Almost as soon as the lights were switched on, one of the other team’s members shot off like a rocket, only to fall victim to the obstacle course’s first trap.

Trap doors in the floor! One of the team’s three remaining members sprouted wings from her back, grabbed one team mate in each hand, and flew off over the wall.

She turned to her team mates. “Don’t suppose any of you can do that?” The two muscle-bound teens shook their heads. “Didn’t think so.”

Dani cautiously approached the floor where it broke into a checkerboard like pattern. There was about ten feet between where the trapped floor started and the climbing wall. Someone with super strength could probably make the jump easily enough – if they were confident that they could grab one of the plastic rock-wall grips on the other side without falling – but that would not be an option for her.

The redhead girl crouched beside the tiled floor and put her hand on the closes surface. Nothing happened. She pushed harder and the tile fell away into a dark pit. Danica moved onto the next tile and repeated the process. This one didn’t budge. She put her whole weight into the push, but it stayed in place. She stood up and took a cautious step forward onto the tile. It held. Slow and steady, she reminded herself, with a small grin. She turned back to her team mates and gestured them forward. “We probably shouldn’t have more than one person on a tile, just in case. This might lead to a dead end, so maybe one of you should try and start another path?”

(( I didn’t want to write a novel emotion_awesome . But if you want to just ‘conclude’ this part of the obstacle course, I have no problems dreaming up the next step XD ? I feel bad making you do all the tricky bits, lol. ))
PostPosted: Mon Sep 17, 2012 11:41 am

There had to be a faster way to do this? Clowrey thought to herself while she surveyed the area. But no--The entire floor were squares, except for the area right in front of the wall. What they needed to do was figure out which one were traps and what wasn't. Dani was doing fine, testing squares out before stepping on to them...but it'd be a while until they all got over. "Let me try something," she commented, making a flourish wave of her hands and formed a long, solid pole out of her smoke. Gripping it tightly, she thrusted forward and whacked the entire first row as she moved from one side to another. Anything that wasn't a trap tile, held fast. She jumped forward and continued this trend, careful with her footing as to not slip off the tiles. She got to the other side at last, and behind her left the tiles the rest could walk on. "That's one way to do it, right?" she smirked.
"You're just lucky they're all the same trap..."
"Shut up...!" Clowrey hissed quietly before referring to the rest of her team:
"C'mon! We still got the rest of this thing to go! Over the wall, everyone!"

The other team was already a little ways ahead, and the new obstacle was...quite a bit more harrowing than the last. The group had to swing and swerve and evade a series of swingling, blunt pendulems! Not to mention, the floor now suddenly appeared uneven..."Out of the fire and into the lava..."
