So my boyfriend is watching this show, and from what I can gather from the snippets of it they basically talk about how aliens visited ancient civilizations and gave them the tools and technology to create the great monuments that still stand today. ((pyramids, temples, Stone Hedge, etc)) And the gods and mythical creatures were just images of these aliens.

Do you agree that the ancients got help from an alien race?

To be honest, I don't agree. I do believe in life on other planets/universes, and while it is plausible they have visited us in ancient (and modern) times, I don't think they helped at all. Why would an advance race that can travel to unknown distances help a barbarian species? ((Or at least I'd assume that's how they'd view humans, even now.)) What would the ancient people be able to give in return for this help, that these aliens would deem worth the effort? I just can't believe that these alien people would help with receiving nothing in return. Where's the evidence of this? All the evidence they seem to show is humanly possible. ((They even state it a few times that it's humanly possible but it "would take a lot of work and dedication)) So now just because something's hard to achieve, it had to be from an outside source?

YES. EVERYTHING YOU SAY. YES.

My mom watches the show a lot, and it just gets so frustrating. EVERYTHING is aliens with these people. I believe there are other lifeforms out there, but I have to agree with you on the concept of them coming to Earth and helping us or our ancestors out. Why would they bother? What makes us so special, especially if we're so far behind them? Not only that, but it becomes a bit insulting to the various cultures who built pyramids, temples, etc, when scientists come along and say that their ancestors were all too ignorant to figure out how to make these monuments. Some people think it's egotistical to assume we achieved all this on our own, but I think it's even worse to assume that out of the vast expanse of the Universe, some highly evolved life form 'chose' us and bequeathed all this knowledge to us for no apparent reason.

This video featuring Michio Kaku pretty much sums up how I feel. He just hits the nail on the head.

Exactly. Which I had to find slightly ironic since they kept saying humans are not the center of everything and we shouldn't be so egotistical, yet I found at least half of their explanations incredibly egotistical/arrogant.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that was a little bit ticked off by that. I kept having to pause it ((since my boyfriend was watching it on Netflix)) and rant and defend the cultures. lol

One of their egotistical explanations I mentioned above. Another was a guy literally said "The ancients built all these things just to show us, the future generations!"
...
Yeah, they put all that effort and time just to show off to future generations.

I love Michio Kaku! ^^

Haha, I think it was Carl Sagan who used to get really pissy about those people, particularly the ones who say we're like the product of aliens breeding with Neanderthals or something.

I don't agree with everything they say. I watch it mainly because it's neat to see the correlations these crazy lookin' guys make (because honestly, they look like mad scientists XD ). It's just interesting to me is all. I like seeing all these cool places and hearing the crazy theories. I think that's in part because I'm a creative person, so watching crazy and creative things gets my own brain working 3nodding

Oh I agree, it was an interesting watch. I was just a little miffed by their claims.
And they did look like mad scientists! Every time one guy came on screen I couldn't focus, I just can't asking myself "What the hell is up with his hair?!" Haha. xD

Right!? There's the one guy whose hair is just everywhere! I can't wait until he goes gray, just so that it completes the stereotype xd

Even a couple of the women are crazy looking. It's ridiculous and so awesome, because these are exactly what you'd think people who theorize about aliens look like.
