Biography:Cedar was born on the farm, and her father Ash Rayne was also born on the farm and so on and so forth for generations, the Rayne farm had existed. Farming was the Rayne way of life. When Cedar was born, her father was a bit disappointed that it was a girl. He wanted to a boy, so he could help around the farm and continue the tradition. Cedar was a happy healthy child, she had bright eyes and full of love. Her mother was content.
Maple Rayne, baked goods, and sold them to the local stores, and to people in general. She used the ingredients from the farm. The farm was one of the large providers for the town. But certainly not the only one, and they event brought some to the larger cities. When Cedar was older, she would go with her father sometimes to make the deliveries and pickups. She learned to bake her mother’s recipes at an early age and over all, they were a happy family.
Cedar seemed to enjoy the out doors the most. Even if the weather was bad and she wasn't allowed outside she would be by the window. Little did her parents know that her magic had already started to show. Cedar was able to listen to the land, the earth, the wind and hear voices.
But obviously not everything was always sunshine and roses. Farming was a tough life, if there wasn’t enough rain, even the irrigation system couldn’t work. Too much rain; flooding the fields, or sometimes just subpar produce compared to the competitors. Cedar was to young to help out in any great way, but she would make little child like comments about how the land was hurting, or it was thirsty.
When Cedar was around 8, her father started taking her out and really showing and teaching her about the farm, in little bits. Like his father had done for him. Cedar would prance around in her dress and make faces at the cows. But she learned how to milk. Granted she needed supervision, but all the same. She took a liking to the horses, what little girl didn’t? She learned to ride and by the age of 12 she was a common face around the farm. She mostly gathered goods for her mother, and helped with the baking. It was a common belief that females shouldn’t be doing such labor, but if they needed the help she was the one that would do it. She enjoyed helping, and meeting the hands around the farm.
And by this time her parents knew that she had magical powers already showing. Maple and Ash didn't have magical powers, and had assumed that their children wouldn't either, so they were taken by surprise to find out that Cedar did. And had been showing them at such an early age.
Cedar became rather close to her mother, Maple was a loving mother, who only wanted the best for her family. She enjoyed her time with Cedar, teaching her how to make bread, and brownies, even more intrigue meals, like turkey dinners. Cedar was happy to learn, and was even more excited to find out her mother was pregnant. She was still a little young to know too much about it, but she knew that it was a big deal. And with that, 9 months flew by, including Cedar’s 13th birthday.
When her mother went into Labor, Cedar was making pies. Her mother had a rough pregnancy so Cedar had to pick up the slack. She didn’t do so well with all that pressure and her mother’s hormones were out of control and she had been yelling at Cedar for messing up measurements, today was not the first day this had been happening. Maple’s water broke, and the labor began. The midwife pulled the father to the side and Cedar watched as Ash’s expression became one of concern. Cedar was taken out of the room, and several hours later the Ash Jr was born.
Hearing the hustle and bustle the teenager snuck back into the room. She called out to her mother, wanting to see the baby, but didn’t receive the answer she was expecting. Her mother was in tears and started to wail, her father was shouting ‘how could this happen!?’ The midwife was trying to explain, and had placed the babies blanket over the baby. Ash Jr had passed away.
Life on the farm after that had gotten dark, the usual joyful sounds had ceased. Cedar would tug at her mother and ask about baking or cooking, and Maple just rolled over in bed putting her back to Cedar. Her father worked, but didn’t talk much, and told Cedar to stay out of his way. The young girl wasn’t too sure what to do with herself. After a couple months things started to look a little brighter, but her mother seemed to shut down completely. She became negative and unstable in her emotion. There was more going on then Cedar understood. Her relationship with her mother deteriorated over time, not really understanding the impact of the loss of a child. This caused Cedar to withdraw, and she would sit outside alone, and talk with the wind.
At the age of 15, Cedar started working at the local pub as a waitress, and she grew as a person. She enjoyed working there, the money went to her father to help pay the bills, and the farm got smaller over time. Some of the hands were let go, and years went by. Her mother started to finally come out of her depression, but was never the same as before. Around that time Cedar was just turning 17, and her father sent her to the Academy.
Cedar finished school, and went back home. Her mother didn’t seem to happy to see her, and her father seemed to have really down sized the farm. They were both reaching their late 40s and he explained that, they were getting to old for the farm, least a large one. He offered to pass it onto Cedar in the next year or so, if she wanted it, otherwise they would sell of the land, and just retire.
Cedar's history has caused her to be slightly overly sensitive to peoples feelings and emotions. If she feels like she's imposing she's a bit more likely to back off. She's not very forward either; mostly because of the situation with her mother. Cedar's been a bit touchy / edgy since the offer from her father; so she's been quick to anger. But once she makes her decision on the farm, she'll relax, and settle into her true personality. Cedar is often seen talking to herself, but she's really speaking with the wind. Life has has it's ups and down. But it was time for her to start the next step in her life.
