Regarding the departing Rorret, the fox turned his attention to the new recruits. It was a tedious thing, this "pup sitting," but certainly less tedious than skulking about, evading death and trying to find a comfortable and safe spot to while away the daylight hours. His ears relaxed against his sleek, pink head as he led the pups to a spot slightly behind a boulder. Nose and ears would serve to alert him to the arrival of others, but for this first explanation of what the pups would have to learn to survive, well... He preferred a bit of privacy.
Watching to ensure the pups followed, Jasper dropped onto his haunches before ducking his head to gnaw an itch. A few catlike swipes of his tongue smoothed chocolate fur before he turned his eyes to the pups, studying each in turn.
"Your first lesson will be to bathe yourselves after each kill. When you have proven your strength, you may frolick about in gore all you like, but until then, you would do well to ensure that you do not conceal your scent from your brothers until they have learned you. An unfamiliar scent is a threat, and one that some will not take to lightly."

It occurred to Soren that perhaps, even smelling of blood and death, he’d still seem a foreign body amongst a group of wolves who hardly had the chance to gain his scent in the first place - and therefore, the cleanliness of his scent wasn't so much an issue as it was smelling like the dirty remains of a dead thing. The fog that had settled in the crevaces of his little brain like a self-preservation system finally sunk in, allowing the pup to listen without immediately misplacing the words of the speaker, and slowly looking down to his sticky crimson chest, he thought he saw reason in the fox’s advice. If not for identification purposes, he’d be able to move better without a massive clotting of some animal’s blood weighing him down - and that meant not being bothered by too much restriction, though he hadn’t any idea why that was foremost on his mind.
Of course, he’d hardly had to bathe himself before. And for whatever reason, he couldn’t remember ever having to be tidy… though he was sure he had been on one occasion, as when he mirrored the fox’s movement toward his own hind leg, he found it to be relatively smooth and clean. Someone else had taken care of that before he’d bowled through a dead carcass, and where he hadn’t become a mess, he seemed pristine. How had that happened?
But he didn’t dwell on it long, instead turning glassy golden eyes to watch the fox in a way that suggested he was waiting for instructions and wouldn’t move until he had gotten them. He was somewhat useless without direction now, and though he wasn’t desperate for any, he most certainly needed some.

...being a nanny... Ugh. Jasper concealed his impatience with the dull look the pup Rorret had dubbed 'Soren' and moved over with a swift padding of small paws. "I will do this once and only once. Learn to clean yourself and do it thoroughly. Being coated in blood is not something a pup should be until you learn to defend yourself."
Putting a pink paw on Soren's side, he pushed the pup over, pinning him in place as the fox dropped his head. Long, swift swipes with his tongue cleaned away the remains of the pup's mother, leaving his fur damp and neatly smoothed into place. A huffing sneeze wrinkled Jasper's maw as he shook his head, licking away the remains of the blood before he left Soren lying sprawled, casing only a curt "Get yourself up," back at him as he moved to see if Llikmeht had managed the presence of mind to clean himself off.

Llikmeht perked his ears up as Jasper talked about lessons. So they were out here to learn something. Finally! he ws so couped up in his mothers den he was ready to start learning and being involved in his own life and this new world. Cleaning ourselves huh...well he was already pretty good about that, keeping his fur clean was something he enjoyed, not to an extreme but he had actually hated to smell of his sister and sleeping next to her would leave him cleaning himself to rid himself of her female stench. He watched Jasper's moves, but he had already studied his mothers way of cleaning them, but he mirrored Jasper, hoping to please to fox. He did enjoy the smell of the blood and the gore of the kill they had just taken apart of but letting it linger was a bad idea, he wanted his head to be clear for what they were going to learn. He marveled at his surrounds and not understanding fully what was going on, he took it in.

Leaving Soren clean but sprawled across the ground by a particularly emphatic tongue swipe, the fox turned, regarding Llikmeht for a moment before he nodded his head once. "Good. You take instruction. You might live."
The fox rose to his paws, pacing around the pups for a time as he gave them a thorough examination, occasionally shoving a muzzle into their sides to push them onto their feet, sniffing at a patch of fur, commanding them to whine, whimper or bark. He nipped at ears, pulled tails and told them to stretch as he examined their confirmation, judging with the eye of a prey animal how length of leg, breadth of chest and depth of barrel would one day lead them into the stature that could send any prey animal fleeing in terror.
"Well, he could have done much worse," Jasper admitted as he finally pushed Soren back to sitting, glancing back to ensure that Llikmeht was following his initial brush of intellect and doing the same. When the two were seated, he settled himself before them, turning his eyes over their heads.
"This is the first law. Heed it well, take it to heart and never, ever forget it. The moment you do, you will be slaughtered. This is the law: The alpha is your God, and his word is law. He protects you, cares for you, and gives your life purpose. In return, you worship and obey him." Jasper stated the last few lines with clear recitation tones, putting emphasis on them. When the last syllable was spoken, the fox looked at them intently, managing to overcome the whimsical nature of his colouring with an expression of stern focus. "Remember that law. Live by it. Can you recite it to me?"

Might live...if I was older...then he rememeber Rorret's words, that this fox was a...brother...what did that mean...his own brother he felt like he didn't even know...
Widening his eyes he bowed his head to the fox and did what he was told as it nudged his feet and sides he couldn't help but smelling fresh clean meat even though the fox was almost the same size as him. However, he knew foxes were clever, and if he could learn a thing or two from a fox...Llikmeht was all ears. Foxes unlike the wolf he was, could escape scent, darkness. Getting rid of his scent was his first step in becoming a true predator...perhaps even crows would swarm his prey another creature that has the power to not be seen. He wasn't sure were he had heard such words...but the possesion of a crow feather gave the posseser the ablity to be...invisible.
His ears sharp even with the chutter of his mind he listened to Jasper...could he call him Jasper? Best just to listen and not speak.
I am learning so much...Laws yes binding me to where I am going...how is it that another animal can connect with me and know so much more than I do? Slaughtered...I am the prey...interesting...since the alpha is God...I only listen to him and his disciples...what else is there for me to do...I just hope that the alpha God, allows me to get better at huntinig, killing, tracking, and slaying whatever taunts my nostrils.
The fever of the flesh was begining to cloud Llikameht's mind. He was vulnerable. Without his mother or his father...whoever that was. He was ready and willing to do whatever the alpha asked of him, no matter if it killed him. At such a young age he had seen and smelled death. All he could do is learn now from his surroundings, and become what his new environment and...parents? Layed out for him. Either way...he liked where he was now, and willing to do what is needed of him.

Noting that one pup seemed to be paying rapt attention, it was to Soren that the fox turned his attention. Ears swung forward as he rose to his paws, padding over to look down at the pup over his strawberry pink muzzle. "Did you hear what was said, whelp? Did you take it to heart, note the words I stressed? Did you hear the lesson that is your first true step to becoming a brother to the noble ones who have taken you in?"
A paw flipped out, pushing Soren over sharply as Jasper turned to pin Llikmeht with a sharp gaze. "Paying attention to the world around you, the words spoken to you, the intent behind them, the body language of the one speaking to you is the first real trick to survival. You watch, you listen and you remember what you have seen and heard. If you cannot master this basic skill that even the most timid rabbit has, then you will be of no use. And those who are of no use, die."

Well. So he was a bit of a pushover, then.
It was with patience and a measure of disinterest that allowed the stern little fox to do what he wished with Soren, who hardly seemed to realize he was being bullied by a creature halfway down his list of natural threats. Did it matter? Not really. The fox was right. At least, Soren figured he was right - what could he gain by speaking falsely? That, and he was in quite deep with the Rorret wolf… so he was probably being very sage in offering this much advice to a pair of whelpling brothers.
Had he heard? Well, of course he had - the fox had been speaking very clearly, not a stutter or mumble did break through his speech of warnings and rules. Now, the bit about worshiping and obeying… if the Alpha himself were to ask from Soren, then he’d probably go along with it just fine. If the Alpha had been the one giving lessons, he’d have no problem in understanding just what he was supposed to do, instead of relying on the words of a fox to explain concepts he still hardly understood, or even bothered to understand. Alpha was God. Fine. Who was Alpha? And, whomever he happened to be, could he really give Soren’s life a little purpose? That sounded rather agreeable.
Still, how was he excpected to ruminate on such things if this impatient little fox kept badgering him with new information? On the ground, up again, pushed down once more… it tried the pup’s nerves, though only just, as with a bit of calm dignity he recovered from the last bit of manhandling. Remember. That was precious. Remember how? It was still with a fractured mind that Soren tried to function with, and he was still somewhat hung up on the idea of an alpha figure. He narrowed his eyes, but only in the slightest, and kept his lips quite keenly shut. He understood just fine, though committing to memory would be a bit of a stretch. Important key phrases were in the process of tucking themselves into a place where they could be recalled, and speaking out would only be a distraction from the delicate process.
Darkly, with a gaze unwavering, Soren stared. He’d been made aware, yes, but that was his extent on commentary.

Llikmeht soaked in Jasper's words..."paying attention to the woreld around you." He took a deep breath, noticing the subtle hints of wood, laves, decay...and of the flesh near him...his brother...and the fox Jasper. He tried to filter out the other scents of the forests and just smell Jasper and his brother. Smelling the essence of flesh, fur, saliva, and sweat.
Llikmeht thought these senses would be important to the alpha...when he met him...the more he heard about the alpha male the more curious and anxious he became to meet him.
He listened to Jasper, and worked on honing his senses...he didn't want to end up like a rabbit...he would be the hunter...the one who seeked and could kill the rest...they would die...he would kill them.
Them...those who he was told to kill.

Jasper regarded the pair of pups and sighed inwardly. Granted, it was never too early to start inculcating the necessary tenets, but they seemed... distracted. One concept presented, and he saw something akin to understanding in their eyes. Or simple confusion, he thought, huffing a vaguely annoyed breath.
"Well, you're clean and fed, so that's a step in the right direction. Before I present any more of the rules you will be living by, I will offer you a chance to ask questions." The fox managed to look at them sternly despite the strawberry pink fur he was gazing through. "This is not an offer given lightly, nor by many others. I occupy a... unique position, and part of that is being available for some things that others may kill you for, such as questioning. Take a moment and collect your thoughts before you ask. There is such a thing as a stupid question, just so you know."
Repressing another sigh, he ducked his head to groom his tail, watching the pups from the corner of his eye.

Llikmeht saw that the fox was not to pleased. Perhaps he was trying to focus on too much.
He looked at the fox and tried to block out other distractions...and the wandering thoughts in his mind.
He listened as Jasper spoke..ask a question...but there was so much he wanted to know, why were they here? were they going to die? what was going to happen next? where were they going? when would they meet the rest of the pack? why weren't there any females? why did they have to get clean?
Thoughts raced through his mind...but the only thing that he felt was useful to ask was...When are we going to learn more about how to hunt...and track?
